There is, amongst some, a strong sense of relief: Defense Minister Shoigu has declared that the formations deployed by Russia to western Russia will now return to their regular bases. Of course, the Ukrainians claim that they “deterred a Russian attack” while the Russians say that “the West got the message”. Is that so and, if yes, who is right?
Well, I think that we can dismiss the Ukie nonsense out of hand. Nobody out there, except the Ukrainians themselves, seriously believe that Russia “blinked”, if only because destroying the entire Ukrainian military would take Russia less than a week. In fact, the Ukrainians know that very well, they just won’t admit it.
Notice that while the Ukrainians claim that they deterred Russia, Russia does not claim to have deterred the Ukrainians, instead Russia declared that the Russian bear roared loud enough to deter the united West. Right there we have an important clue as to what has really happened.
I, however, submit that the causes which triggered the initial Ukrainian move to bring a large armored force right to the line of contact are still here. In other words, nothing has been resolved.
What happened is this: in response to the threat from both the Ukrainians and US/NATO, Russia simply demonstrated her ability to quickly concentrate a truly huge force (2 Armies and 2 Airborne Divisions) along her border. She also redeployed the Caspian Flotilla into the Black Sea, brought in large landing ships and, generally, “flexed her military muscles” in order to convey a clear message to the Ukrainians, the Europeans and the US:
- To the Ukrainians: attack the Donbass and you will die, as for the Ukraine, it will break apart into several new successor states.
- To the EU: if a war starts, you will even lose the very little agency you have left and your economy will not be competitive against the USA.
- To the USA: if a war starts, you will face a stark choice: lose face or start a full-scale war against Russia.
Yes, so far, this strategy has proved very effective. The Ukrainians were clearly terrified and the EU showed no enthusiasm for that war (except the UK, which risks very little, and the Poles who specialize in stupid historical decisions). As for “Biden”, he realized that a full scale war against Russia was suicidal.
So are we now out of the danger zone?
Absolutely not. There is still one thing the West is determined to achieve: to fight Russia down to the last Ukrainian. For the US Neocons, to see the two Slavic brothers kill each other is old dream come true. Furthermore, the US still needs to bring the EU down to its economic knees to force it to buy energy, services and goods from the USA. Last, but not least, the Ukraine has lost any appeal it might have had for the USA: the only thing which the Ukraine can still offer is to be a thorn in Russia’s side.
And then, there is the “Ze” regime in Kiev: not viable, not reformable, the Ukraine is has been comprehensively deindustrialized and now the Ukrainians are dying in huge numbers from the COVID pandemic: Banderastan is the ultimate failed state, worse than many African ones, in fact.
Yes, “Ze” was told by his masters to “cool it” and, so far, he has obeyed, but that solves exactly none of his problems. Worse, there are a lot of well-armed Ukronazi deathsquads who still have the means to create some kind of incident which would reignite the whole thing again. Also, it is worth remembering that the Brits and the Ukies both have a proven record of successful covert operations, which by definition include false flags.
In other words, nothing has really changed. Yes, right now, Uncle Shmuel is trying to find out what his options are, and he will come up with a corrected plan (remember, Neocons are stupid, yes, but they are also clever in a short term, “horizontal” way). Right now “Biden” is licking his wounds from the embarrassing faceplant with the attempt to kill Lukashenko and the (frankly silly) nonsense coming out of the Czech Republic. There are some signs that at least the Germans realize what is really going on and who is truly trying to screw them over (while most of the German political class is corrupt to the bone, some German politicians are sensitive to the mood of the German business community).
Simply put: all we are observing today is a short term reprieve, nothing more.
The Russians know that, and it is safe to say that while some of their forces will demonstratively retreat, others will stay. More importantly, now that this operational redeployment of key formations has been rehearsed, very publicly, the Russians have shown the US/NATO that Russia can deal with any military threat (in contrast, it would take NATO months to bring a big enough force to eastern Europe to represent a credible threat).
Finally, Ze has made a rather ridiculous speech telling Putin that they should meet. Putin’s response was perfect: you want to meet with me to discuss our bilateral relations (which, incidentally, you have destroyed) – sure. No problem. But if you want to discuss the Donbass, you have to engage in direct talks with the LDNR, as the Minsk Agreement and the Steinmeier formula, which you have signed, stipulate. In other words, back to square one.
This is a situation of not one, but two “thorns”: the Ukronazi Banderastan is definitely a thorn in the side of Russia, while the LDNR is a thorn in the side of Banderastan. Make a guess, which side can put up with its thorn longer than the other side?
Many have forgotten it, but in a moment of anger, Poroshenko did tell Putin “take the Donbass if you want it!”, and Putin declined. Since then, the Russians have shown over and over again that they do NOT want the Donbass. At most, they might have to take it to save it from genocide, but even in this case the Russians have no intentions of invading the rest of the Ukraine only to have to deal with 1) Ukronazi insurgencies and 2) rebuilding this failed state from its current zero all the way back. And that is the worst Russian threat not only for the Ukraine, but for all of Europe: Russia does NOT want, or need, the Ukraine and Russia won’t take it over, even in case of a full-scale war. At most, Russia will repeat what she did in the 08.08.08 war: defang the Nazi regime by obliterating the Ukrainian military, and then let the regime naturally collapse.
Anyway, I will write a more detailed analysis of this situation next week, but right now I submit that all that is happened is a limited and temporary deescalation, not any kind of return to even semi-normality (and the Ukies are still murdering LDNR civilians every day, including with heavy weapons).
So, what do you think? Back to sanity, or only a reprieve?
The Saker
The rapid and extensive Russian deployment was a brilliant move. Unfortunately I don’t think this is over. I simply don’t trust the USA to see sense.
Andrei Illarionov, reportedly an advisor to Putin and head of The Institute for Economic Analysis, was interviewed in Ukrainian TV (sorry, no link) and made comments as to timing.
– Nothing will happen before the Climate summit May 9
– Then NATO has exercises until the end of June
– After the end of June, an opportunity will open for large scale operations by Russia
– Nordstream 2 will be complete by then
– Russia would deploy a much larger force
Saw him quoted on a US alternative media show. It would be interesting if those with knowledge of his actual background and relevance comment on this. I cannot assess the value of his comments.

Has not Gordon Chang fallen dead yet? 30 Years — thats what we used to call “a generation”. Or half an average lifespan.

He talks on Ukie TV because he’s part of the enemies of Russia.
Great answers – Thanks.
So, this is some of what Ukrainians are hearing. I have a friend from an eastern European country, who has a distant branch of the family in the Ukraine. He told me recently that some cousins were drafted into the military and one was just killed. No wonder they have to keep the propaganda going full tilt.

“the enemies of Russia.”
This phrase is saturated in emotionalism and hence practitioners tend to be of the view that Russia does not have enemies but opponents.
This is also a component of the reasons why opponents are sometimes refered to as colleagues or partners in recognition of opponents complicity in their own transcendence.
The Soviet Union is being transcended by the Russian Federation, including through the transcendence of ideological mystifiers such as “enemies of the peopleness”.
Some in Russia have not wholly escaped from old ways of thinking since ideological practices have half-lives, as is the case of any lateral process.
No matter what happens going forward the current score is Russia 1 / US/NATO 0. Russia and China just need to avoid direct conflict with the West which is in the process of collapsing under the combined weight of being over extended and totally corrupt. If a hot war does break out I don’t see many former Trump supporters signing up to fight for an empire who hates their guts. Let the woke self loathing progressives fight it instead.
« The enemies of Russia ». You say that this phrase is saturated in emotionalism. For some people, what you say is true. But for others, like me, it’s just a factual finding, without any emotion. An opponent who wants your death, your destruction, or at least your surrender, must not be called an opponent, he must be called an enemy. As simple as that. Pure fact. It’s simply calling a spade a spade. There is no point in watering down reality with euphemisms. This role is reserved for diplomats, not for people like you and me, who need to have a clear perception of what reality is.
There are people whose ideology is to believe that they have no ideology. These are the globalists. They patronize those who don’t share their so modern and progressive views. They see the mote in the eye of their opponents but do not see the beam that is in their own eye.
“An opponent who wants your death, your destruction, or at least your surrender, must not be called an opponent, he must be called an enemy”
History illustrates that you are wrong unless you resort to belief to bridge doubt to attain “confirmation”, which is a popular resort of opponents when outcomes vary from expectations/hopes/wishes etc.
Designating opponents “enemies” precludes their transcendence through emulating them, and facilitates the lose/win iteration ergo “continual war.”
Many opponents like you are of the view that “”An opponent who wants your death, your destruction, or at least your surrender, must not be called an opponent, he must be called an enemy” and why they continue to be at war with much of the world including themselves, facilitating their complicity in their own transcendence, as does reliance upon and resort to emotion, minimising thinking “What is for afters?”
“He talks on Ukie TV because he’s part of the enemies of Russia.”
The alphabets, not alpha-omegas since their attention span has never been extensive or even wide, hence Mr. Putin’s allusion to patience in a recent speech, have been immersed in some assay some of trust the-source-trust the-“intelligenceness”.
This has often facilitated curved ball syndromes which dis-encouraged thorough analysis of content, even given that all datastreams are useful to those who can render them so – within which the opponents experience “difficulty” which they attempt to bridge by resort to various forms of bribery/coercion- , and statistically even a fool can be elevated to useful foolery, although this option is constrained by viewing useful fools as “enemies”.
Well, I agree that the problem of the Ukraine is not resolved – if indeed there is any solution – but a lot has been achieved. The speed of the Russian response, and its quality, was an ample demonstration to the West that any thoughts of an attack on Russia (or her allies) is a wet dream. Call me naive if you wish, but there are signs that some Europeans (at least Germany, France) get it. The Belarus thing was a reminder to other sates neighbouring Russia where their interest lie. And again Putin comes out head and shoulders above the crowd of midgets. The Kipling metaphor was a masterstroke.
As each day passes Russia gets stronger, and the West gets more desperate and frankly silly. So no reason for Russia to “solve” Ukraine by force; it has very effectively neutralised it whilst strengthening its general position.
Yes, there is solution
To send this anti-Slavic, anti- Russian and anti- Ukrainian Bandera regime to hell.
It is inevitable sooner or later
yes – they’re very similar to the Arabic ISIS….its hopeless and a nightmare to ‘convert’ them back – although that is what China is doing with the Uighurs.
Don’t compare the civilized and occupied Uighurs with your Bandera regime or some other ITSY BITSY groups of dubious origins. Uighurs are a nation with a history, a language and a culture. And don’t give tacit approval to Chinas draconian policies. It is rather insulting and speaks volumes about you.
China had to take draconian measures to preserve its territorial integrity against CIA-backed Uighur extremists. They were pacified and are being reeducated in order to assimilate them into the Chinese society. There’s absolutely nothing wrong about it.
“Don’t compare the civilized and occupied Uighurs with your Bandera regime or some other ITSY BITSY groups of dubious origins. Uighurs are a nation with a history, a language and a culture”.
So what are 5,000 “civilized” Uighurs doing fighting for ISIS and Al Qaeda etc in Syria?
What does Syria have to do with policies in China?
BEIJING (Reuters) – Up to 5,000 ethnic Uighurs from China’s violence-prone far western region of Xinjiang are fighting in various militant groups in Syria, the Syrian ambassador to China said on Monday, adding that Beijing should be extremely concerned about it.
REUTERS MAY 11 2017
if the throat slitting ISIS mercenaries come from Uighur – then it applies.
The Uyghurs situation is multifaceted, China is actively deployed in Xinjiang to combat ISIS. If that entails re-education camps to attempt to de-radicalize pro-ISIS Uyghur populace, then it’s possible that is what has happened.
China has a law in place that the Uyghurs are able to have more children than the Chinese are allowed, and have the Uyghur script on the Renminbi.
A few days ago some “Canadian” family (likely CSIS) decided they’d blab and say that they saw all these crimes against humanity (cannot find the story now) from twatter.
So I must ask, what is to be believed if they are respected, yet ISIS is trying to corrupt them? Didn’t the Empire do the same thing with Muslims too?
Why is one action condemned and not the other?

“The Dycks, who are fluent in Uyghur and Mandarin, settled in Xinjiang in 2007 and ran a composting business for agricultural waste.”
Interesting. They settled in Xinjiang just two years before the 2009 Uyghur riots which left some 197 Han Chinese killed, some decapitated, and over 1600 injured.
The riots flared up after Uyghur youths rallied to demand an investigation into the murder of two Uyghur workers by a mob of Han colleagues at a toy factory THOUSANDS OF MILES AWAY in Guangdong, southern China.
Obviously no bullshit there.
Who wouldn’t want to move to Xinjiang, learn Uyghur and Mandarin, just to run a composting business?
“And that is the worst Russian threat not only for the Ukraine, but for all of Europe: Russia does want, or need, the Ukraine and Russia won’t take it over, even in case of a full-scale war.”
Did you perhaps mean to set a “not” between “does” and “want”?
Correct, thank you, I will change that!
The Saker
“… but right now I submit that all that is happened is a limited and temporary deescalation”. That is certainly correct. Russia has proven to Kiev, NATO and Washington that it can beef up it’s borders in record time, something NATO could never replicate. This has certainly led to a temporary deescalation.
Another factor is the state of affairs inside the EU. Many people forget that EU members are also NATO members. Is there unity inside the EU/NATO when it comes to the current situation in the Donbass ? Absolutely not. As Pepe Escobar has stated, Paris and Berlin were terrified of a Ukrainian/Russian war, which could not have been beneficial to EU members, certainly not to France and Germany, and certainly not if this led to the termination of the Nord Stream – 2 gas pipeline. The current situation must have seen quiet infighting in both the EU and NATO, and Washington must have been aware of this, although the factor that clinched it was the speed of the Russian deployment of troops and equipment on the border with the Donbass and Ukraine.
Whose voice made all the difference inside the EU and NATO ? That of Paris or Berlin ? Paris made it’s contribution, but Berlin made all the difference. The German political class might be corrupt, but when it comes to Germany’s relationship with Russia, it is of no real importance. The people who are important are German industrialists. In 2014, when sanctions were introduced, German industrialists defied Merkel, with 500 of them going to Russia to discuss trade, opening subsidiaries which after that employed 140.000 Russians. On this occasion German industrialists must have sent some very nasty messages to the German Government. They certainly do not wish to see the cancellation of the Nord Stream – 2 gas pipeline, nor the termination of economic activities between Germany and Russia. The last thing they want to see is Germany being reduced to an American puppet when it comes to energy and industrial production, not to mention industrial exports.
What next ? It will depend on the greed of the neocons inside the US, and on their sanity, if they have any. The neocon plan all along has been the destabilization, break up and plunder of Russia. I don’t see them cancelling this plan. The problem for the neocons is that this plan did not work out, while Russia has got stronger. Can the neocon plan work in these new circumstances ? The answer is ‘no’. However, can the neocons take ‘no’ for an answer, or will they do something very stupid on the international scene ? We shall see.
Exactly , words like neocons and sense dont belong together! And ,that is exactly, where problem is! If someone expect that neocons will be rational in their actions, is grawely mistaken!
The only way to instill common sense into ZUSA psychopaths is to let them feel mortal danger. The pampered “deciders” at the City of London, FedReserve, and MIC have been arranging mass slaughters of human beings by millions. Time for the “deciders” to feel the self-inflicted inevitability of a ghastly and premature death if they continue their bloody business of gangsterism and thievery.
Currently, the gravest problem is the combination of ignorance, incompetence, and psychopathy plaguing the western “deciders.” They are thoroughly devoid of dignity. The Russian Federation is forced to deal with moral degenerates.
Expect them to fall back on bribery, blackmail, cyber attacks, economic blockade, and assassination ..
Look at it this way: bribery is a pawn, blackmail is a knight, cyber attacks are bishops, economic blockade requires castleing and assassination is when the opposition resigns after running out the clock.
Yes, they will certainly try.
But they are more vulnerable to cyber attacks then Russia. At his point, economic blockade would achieve very limited damage to Russian economy. And they could be assassinated too …
Yes. Again, we see this a conflict between the usury class and “industrial” (lack of a better word) class. This is really class struggle, but not as Marx wanted us to see it.
In that sense Matt Ehret is correct.
Maybe Usury Empire is better than Anglo Zionist. No national or ethnic group deserves to be stained by this association, not even the horrid english or their junior Israeli partners.
Please no email listed.
Ozone
All empires have been ‘usury empires’. However, all empires were always controlled by somebody. This ‘somebody’ always had a name.
@Ozone
Usury Empire and Anglo Zionist is the same as I see it. The ideological basic is debt and slavery, the most lucrative, inhuman and destructive society whose only goal is possession.
History has seen plenty of cultures with more divine visions than that.
Well is true the EU has no appetite for war close to their soil, specially as the politics is busy to implement the SDG’s and Schwabs great plunder – Somewhere else they would gladly help – expect a new enhanced focus on the Middle East, North Africa but also in the Mediterranean the score is not settled – if there is a withdrawal from Afghanistan where do you think the troops will end up !? NS 2 may be completed but I doubt gas will flow trough it anytime soon
I think they will just continue the planned roadmap. Constantly poking the bear in the eye, constantly “withdrawing” from Afghanistan, constantly creating war and violence is Syria, constantly issuing new virus strains, constantly murdering anyone “in the way” for all their fakes.
Goal: Cashless society, transhumanism, depopulation of the I-nations middle class. The 1% became the 0,1% and will now become 0,01% and “nobody seems to notice, nobody seems to care” (George Carlin).
I spoke with several Western middle class people about this depopulation agenda.
They all agree in the TPTB agenda that “we are too many”, but from the impression and standpoint of view that a billion poor from India, from Africa and from China would be suitable as they cant imagine such fine people as themselves being the target.
The people behind TPTB have their own weird form of justice.
A reprieve only. Events of the last few weeks were only probing Russian response for weakness, with none found the empire will look for other means to attack without risking a direct confrontation for the next year or two.
Ukraine, Belarus and NS2 are but small parts of a far larger picture, the next 5-10 years will bring change such as humanity has never dreamed and the empire will stop at nothing to “win”, Another 9/11 is a distinct possibility.
It’s soon to be for all the marbles.
A brief moment of reprieve for Russia’s show of strength, but they will come back.
Not meaning to distract – hadn’t noticed before today, but Bravo! for your use of “Biden”
Right now I’m more curious about the Putin-Lukashenko meeting. Not much has been reported on it and both the Kremlin and Lukashenko seem to be downplaying it.
From today’s Tass:
MOSCOW, April 23. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko did not discuss merging the two countries into a single state at their talks in Moscow on April 22, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Friday.
“No, a merger of the states into a single one [was] not [discussed],” he affirmed when responding to a question on the issue. “As for integration issues, integration is a permanent process, it is a living mechanism. Integration issues are on the agenda all the time.”
Peskov noted that he did not know what statement Lukashenko was going to make in the near future. “I am unaware of that. As you know, there have been no statements so far, so we here do not know what it is all about, just like everyone else,” he explained.
On April 17, the Belarusian leader said that he was going to make “one of the most crucial decisions” of his presidency. He did not reveal any details, explaining only that, most likely, it would be a presidential decree. According to a version that appeared in the expert community, the issue at hand could be a merger of Belarus and Russia.
•••••••••••••••••
Kind of mundane, given the recent events in Belarus. Meanwhile, Reuters had this report:
VILNIUS (Reuters) – The U.S. ambassador to Belarus met exiled opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya on Wednesday in a show of support on the eve of a planned meeting between President Alexander Lukashenko and his Russian sponsor Vladimir Putin in Moscow.
Russia rallied behind its ally Lukashenko last year when he cracked down on protesters who took to the streets after an election his opponents say was rigged. Lukashenko is due to meet Putin on Thursday in the Kremlin.
Tsikhanouskaya, the opposition candidate in last year’s election, is in self-imposed exile in neighbouring Lithuania, where she regularly receives Western officials.
•••••••••••••••
Looks like a game of whack-a-mole.

Who really won from this temporary impasse? The answer clearly comes from which side could get militarily and economically stronger by the end of the Summer and which gets weaker as times goes by.
My hunch is that, with peaceful and successful elections in September and with a completion of Nord Stream 2 (regardless of US sanctions and if it starts pumping) Russia comes better off with this impasse.
Beyond this, we may engage in endless discussions about “who blinked first”, “who gasped”, etc, but in a nutshell I think that the side that benefits with a delay is clearly the strategic winner.
And besides that, not to mention a full CIPS implementation in the meanwhile, or any other surprise that the Hegemon may though coming 5 years from now.
Do you mean “CHIPS”? I.E. SWIFT/CHIPS?

What de-escalation?
The Ukrainians are still shelling Donetsk and the Russian foreign Ministry says “Kiev is pulling equipment and weapons to the line of contact in Donbass, there is no need to talk about steps towards a settlement on their part – Russian Foreign Ministry.” Source: EndgameWW3 on Twitter
A very concise summary by the Saker..
The daily tit-for-tat continues in the Donbas as before, but an escalation will not happen.. Kiev is crazy, but not insane.. Many of the residents of Donbas hold Russian passports, so a genocide will also not happen, without Russia needing to annex the territory..
In yet another canny move, Mr Putin has invited Zelensky to Moscow for talks.. It seems pointless to talk with a cocaine-addict, but perhaps Mr Putin will be amused..
Mr Putin has talked with many cocaine addicts, Bush and Clinton to name a few…….and of course Obama, on it’s dirivitive, crack. Mr Putin understands addictions and addicts, and has all the medicnes they need.
Cheers, M
With the UK sending warships into the Black Sea will resort to a sports analogy. Same game potentially leading to war, but now starting the 2nd quarter. The Biden admin and the war mongers of the deep state are looking to start a war with Russia. During the Iraqi invasion, the neocons had this saying that real men want to go all the way to Tehran. And they believe that stuff.
The UK expedition to the Black Sea is droll even for me – a British citizen.
It reminds me of a couple of hedgehogs setting out to taunt a bear.
From all that’s said and done in this whole mess, I will assume that Ukraine/NATO plans fizzled on many levels.
“Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed a law allowing reservists to be called up for military service without a mobilization first being announced.” How many regular troops did answered that call and follow Volodymyr into battle?
Seemingly, not enough. Continuous emigration of military aged men didn’t help either.
There are number of those who completed US crash courses in warfare, they say. Remember how similar $500m effort to train Syrian “moderate opposition rebels” ended?
‘We’re talking four or five men’ General Lloyd Austin, commander of US Central Command”. Different country, same story.
Maybe, just maybe, Shoygy was visibly pissed off during Putin’s speech because he realized that he raised 2 Armies and 2 Airborne Divisions on a such unworthy, impotent adversary?
Nevermind , that’s how real “sending a message” looks like.
if shoigu appeared pissed, i suggest it had more to do with the hegemony failed coup, attempted assignation of a president (essentially a declaration of war) & the foiled farce of attempting to raise navalny to be russia’s new yeltsin & bankers free for all rape of russia. i sincerely doubt he cared about moving his troops out of harm’s way, or leaving his ‘toys’ positioned & tuned. like putin, he wants to save lives, this is a very different spiritual strength than the western mind set, which views its citizenry as cannon fodder.
Next from Middle East.

Because … Epiphany?
Mme Zakharova has some good words today
..MOSCOW, April 23. /TASS/. The European Union’s massive and indiscriminate support for the authorities in Kiev makes Brussels responsible for the persecution of Ukraine’s Russian-speaking population, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on the ministry’s website on Friday. “Possibly, the chiefs of European diplomacy should give up indiscriminate and wholesale support for Kiev and urge it to abandon aggressive, militarist rhetoric and to diligently comply with the obligations to settling the conflict in accordance with the Minsk package of measures and agreements, achieved at the Normandy Quartet’s summits,” Zakharova said. “Otherwise, no doubts will be left the European Union, whose position is in fact cannot be distinguished from the Ukrainian one, has taken a certain side in the conflict and actively connives with the Kiev authorities’ nationalist policies. Consequently, it is responsible for the effects of this policy, including Ukraine’s continued large-scale and aggressive infringement of the rights and freedoms of the Russian-speaking population, as well as the re-emergence of the savage ideology of neo-Nazism and right-wing extremism.” Commenting on a tweet by the chief of European diplomacy Josep Borrell regarding alleged Russian aggression against Ukraine Zakharova said that Borrell was biased, which merely demonstrated the European Union’s inability to objectively evaluate the current events and “realize their causes and tragic consequences.” “The chief European diplomat’s biased stance is very disappointing. Falsehoods about a ‘Russian aggression’ continue to be repeated again and again like mantras. What kind of “reserved response” or, let alone, “steps towards a settlement” by the Kiev authorities can one talk about at a time when Ukrainian weapons and military vehicles are being moved towards the engagement line, and the suburbs of Donetsk are daily attacked with Ukrainian shells and mines, which kill civilians, including children?” Zakharova said.
Maria Zakharova:
With all due respect, what passes for nationalist policies in the Bandernazi asylum of ”Ukraine” is just Nazi-style barbarism but with absolutely nothing to show for it at home. Indeed, ”Ukraine” has traversed the exact opposite transition as compared to what Nazi Germany achieved in the 1930s. ”Ukraine” used to be a thriving scientific and industrial powerhouse as part of the erstwhile USSR, and now it looks very much like Yeltsin’s Russia 30 years ago with the added flavours of Russophobia and Nazi-style thuggery. It’s a deindustrialized and depopulating wasteland as well as an utter madhouse. I believe that’s what you pretty much get when asking for ”European values” with open arms and open legs.
Bottom line: Russia may or may not spare the Ukro garbage, but should unceremoniously

by Alexander Mercouris, provides the reasons why I have been more optimistic than The Saker on this matter and; consequently, on April 21st I headlined at
“Russia Increases Its Defense, While U.S. Backs Down From Provoking WW III”
and I stated there that
“The stooge-President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, appears to be trapped between what he has promised to do — which is for Ukraine to retake both Donbas and Crimea (the same thing that his predecessor Petro Poroshenko had promised) — and what will be within his power to do. Even the U.S. empire, which had placed him (and Poroshenko — and Poroshenko’s predecessor ‘Yats’ Yatsenyuk) into nominal control over that country, won’t actually risk WW III in order to keep him in power there. At the present point in time, the best that Zelensky can reasonably hope for is to survive beyond his clearly doomed Presidency. He is learning that being a stooge is not a comfortable position to occupy.”
Going forward, it seems to me that what has happened here will go down in history as a watershed event when the U.S. empire started its decline. The reason why I say this is that this loggerheads had been planned by the U.S. regime (Biden’s team) as being the event that would produce capitulation by Putin either without a war or after a war, and the U.S. regime’s plans were defeated by Putin without a war. This means that, at least over the near-term future, the stooge Ukrainian regime will effectively be forced to negotiate with the Donbas. Zelensky will try to paint this as being a concession by Donbas. However, Svoboda and Right Sector will say that that’s not true and will try to replace him. Whether they will obtain much public support in that effort is very unlikely; and whether they will go forward with in anyway (without such public support), is unknowable. But if they do try, then they will be trying to replace the current U.S.-installed far-right regime, by imposing their own outright and overtly nazi (racist-fascist) regime, at which point the EU and NATO will throw in the towel on Ukraine, and a civil war throughout Ukraine would be likely, with the result being a crushing and total defeat of Ukraine’s nazis and prosecutions of the Svoboda and Right Sector leaders, resulting in those leaders’ executions. So, I have now become an optimist on Ukraine. But nothing is written in stone, until it becomes written in actual events. In the present, the future is always blank.
Hello Mr. Zuesse, I hope you are in good health and it’s a pleasure to hear your words again.
You wrote in your comment, “This means that, at least over the near-term future, the stooge Ukrainian regime will effectively be forced to negotiate with the Donbas.”
According to the website, Donbass Insider, Kiev refuses to meet with either of the representatives of the LPR or DPR.
See: https://www.donbass-insider.com/2021/04/22/ukraine-refuses-direct-interaction-with-dpr-and-lpr-in-the-coordination-mechanism/
Do you still believe the Ukrainian government will engage in “fruitful” discussions with Donbass, perhaps as late as April 28?
Eric I’m with you on this. Alexander Mercouris has been spot on all of these weeks doubting that there will be a war with of course the caveat: the Nazis’ adventurism. The balance of power is so far in favor of Russia in this region and only tilting more in Russia’s favor that really the west is out of options. Putin and Russia’s actions both militarily and diplomatically are so brilliant. Here are two thoughts.
1. What actions by the nazis would trigger a Russian response. Apparently they are still shelling Donbass and killing people. What’s the red line for Russia. Is it 10 people killed, 50, 100. Does Russia consider shelling from the Ukraine side alright but not if any soldiers cross the line. Does Ukraine keep on killing innocent people knowing that Russia won’t take action as long as it’s limited to shelling? How long will this go on for until something snaps?
2. I completely agree with Saker that Russia doesn’t want any part of Ukraine even including the Donbass. But realistically Russia will have to sooner or later save not only the Donbass but also the rest of southern Ukraine, including Mariupol and all the way to Odessa. This is assuming of course that these areas outside of the Donbass is overwhelmingly pro-Russian. Russia doesn’t want any headaches and wouldn’t want to over burden their economy by bringing eastern and southern Ukraine into the fold. However if we look ahead years into the future and if these areas, being free of the Banderistan failed state, develop into prosperous areas then it will have been worth it. Just imagine Odessa being revitalized. Just imagine the tourist dollars flowing into the great weather that is the rest of the former southern Ukraine. And just imagine blocking the rest of Banderistan from the Black Sea. BUT WAIT THERE’S MORE!!! Russia would be able to just about now have a land bridge to the Russian enclave of Moldova, Transnistria.
Mercouris has consistently doubted this would turn into a hot war, with perhaps a small deviation a few days ago. I respect his opinion and his astute readings of important details, but I don’t share his optimism.
For sure Russia does not want to absorb the Ukraine, especially as it is, with the Nazis not yet being thoroughly discredited within Ukraine. That’s reasonable and the Russians are looking out for … Russians, as they must.
But the world needs to consider what it will do with this failed state. There are humanitarian obligations – not the Empire’s phony “Right To Protect”, but simple compassion. The Ukraine’s black earth is a major resource and it needs to not be stolen from the people with the IMF acting as the criminal “fence”. That, BTW, should cause serious damage to the Nazi prestige among the other Ukrainians. Also, nations bordering this borderland need to not be infected with irrational forms of nationalism, and where they are already infected (Poland and the Baltic statelets), the external stimuli for the fever need to be reduced. So perhaps this can be a world-wide project. The NATO nations and the IMF itself should provide no-strings-attached economic aid to repair the horrific damage they caused, to make amends and to end their shame. So obviously this is not going to happen anytime soon, but we should talk about the guilty parties making amends. China might find profitable investments – and no one can ask them for charity with a straight face. Russia could help in important ways, but again, not by bleeding the Russian economy, and let’s be honest here, the Russians subsidized the Ukraine during its long descent, without in any way being able to affect the descent.
A Tribunal to demand reparations for the Ukraine is an idea whose time is coming. As are the Tribunals for Syria, Libya, Yemen and Somalia. Tribunals are a solid foundation for honest dialogue and should start at any time.
@Eric Zuesse: “it seems to me that what has happened here will go down in history as a watershed event when the U.S. empire started its decline”
Linked with what happened in Syria a few years ago, in parallel with events in Ukraine. It was there that NATZO’s proxy army first heard a knock on the door. Knock knock:
Whose there?
Putin.
Putin who?
Putin you out.
A mighty NATZO armada converged on Damascus. Naturally Israel, with its nuclear-ready submarine (gift of Mutti Merkel) had the honour of firing the first cruise missiles (gift of Uncle $cam). Both missiles went off course, plopping harmlessly into the sea. NATZO had had its first taste of Russia’s advanced technology. There was more to come. NATZO warplanes no longer waltz merrily into Syrian airspace, bombing freely as they go. Today NATZO is reduced to sporadic hit-and-run tactics from the periphery.
NATZO’s retreat in Ukraine parallels its retreat in Syria.
thank you putin
Happy that someone reminds us of that episode of September 2013. But: it was not exactly as you put it, your version was that of the Western media.
Two ballistic missiles were fired from a vessel based in the NATO naval HQ in Spain, sailing near Malta (Not Cyprus), and were tracked by the Voronezh early warning radar. One was destroyed in flight, the other felt into the sea for unknown reasons (shot down also, probably). They were headed to the center of Damascus.
The day after NATO ‘explained’ that it was an Israeli (wild) fire test in Easter Mediterranean, just to save face. And, what a coincidence!, a week later Obama was forced to accept a deal on ‘chemical weapons’ stockpiles with Syria, Russia and the OPCW (no need now to enter in details about that widely known deal) and stop the lies about Assad’s use of that kind of weapons.
“your version was that of the Western media.”
Yes even after all that practice they still can’t lie “effectively” since belief in the lie renders believers ineffective.
Or as Mr. Chomsky remarked:
“My country doesn’t lie, because to lie you need to know what truth is.”
I have always thought that the aim of the Empire is to cause a limited war to blame the Russian aggression and block the NS2 and the ‘entente’ between Germany and Russia; personally I also believe that an eventual WW3 is more likely to happen with China on the Taiwan strait
As usual this is very good analysis. However I disagree with the fact that the Brits are safe in their nautical sanctuary, not anymore with the Russian supersonic missiles which can destroy most of the western fleets in few days and burn London in a New York minute. I’ m sure it’s one of the priorities on President Putin agenda in the case the whole military situation deteriorated and turn amok.
Thousand years long conflict can resolve only ones who cooked it in the first place. Vatican.
I think that – behind the scenes – Putin made some very specific and very serious threats. I think he scared the living daylights out of those who were behind this farce.
And I think that Russian intelligence subsequently confirmed that the guilty parties in the West spent a lot of time cleaning some very soiled undergarments.
Hearing that, Putin decided it was safe to withdraw.
I have no inside information to prove any of this. But I was surprised by the troop withdrawal from Crimea. And one has to conclude that something serious happened behind the scenes.
Russia can be effectively attacked from the south. That is why America does not want a war with Iran because it needs unhindered action in that strategic space of the Middle East and part of Asia. Russia can break any attack of NATO and America from the European space with the “left hand”. Neither Europe nor America can endure a long war because it takes a lot of money that is not there. The polar regions, sea approaches and the airspace above those approaches of Russia are well protected. An attack on Russia from Europe can only be a “B” plan for Kaliningrad. Otherwise, it is a ridiculous claim that America is afraid to go to war with Iran, and not afraid to attack Russia. The fact is that Russia was challenged to bring forces to the border with Ukraine and thus leave its strategic/operational military starting points. Both NATO and Russia have reached certain conclusions.
As usual this is a very good analysis. However I disagree on the fact that the Brits are safe in their nautical sanctuary, not anymore with the panoply of Russian supersonic missiles which can annihilate any Western fleet in few days and burn London in a New York minute. I guess it’s one of the priority of President Putin’ agenda if the military situation deteriorate at the Ukrainien or Polish border.
Now it’s time for the Middle East to be heated up. A coalition of Shia and like-minded parties is being forged and they mean business. Three hundred plus US representatives have quickly crafted a document requesting unconditional support for Israel. Missiles are again raining down on American bases in Iraq. A bit overdue but it looks as though it’s payback time for the Shia. They say there are too many unsettled scores.
Maybe Russia pulling out troops from the border is meant to lure the Americans out of Europe and into the Middle East.
“Three hundred plus US representatives have quickly crafted a document requesting unconditional support for Israel.”
I guess you are referring to the following article:
Your description should have read: Three hundred blackmailed or bribed puppets of the Israeli-controlled U.S. Congress have signed on to an Israeli-written document requesting unconditional support for Israel.”
Ooops…
Here’s the article

I would like to provide a little nuance to the statement that the German political class is mainly “corrupt to the bone”. This is in my experience not as widespread as the statement suggests, and if at all, limited to only a minor share of MPs, government ministers and party functionaries. However, a majority of the political class and the public discourse, even among intellectuals, is driven by emotions and to some extent hysteria, and the concept of a national interest is remarkably foreign to even
many high ranking officials. In other words, what Max Weber called “Gesinnungsethik”.
This leads to a significant influence of the prevailing “mood” in the public discourse, and the latter is of course heavily influenced by transatlantic elites like Springer or “Atlantikbrücke”. It is this climate that has made it politically disadvantageous to pursue a national interest in general and Nord Stream II in particular.
Of course, the counterbalance to that are national industry lobbyists who in my opinion actually carry the national interest in this case, and which The Saker also mentioned. But it is mostly discredited to follow these in the public discourse, which in my opinion explains why few politicians have come forward with a firmer commitment to Nord Stream II.
Dear Nils,
with all due respect, the statement that the German political class is mainly “corrupt to the bone”
is correct.
Just an example:
https://www.merkur.de/politik/masken-affaere-nuesslein-cdu-csu-korruption-ruecktritt-lobbyismus-or-90241865.html
Either the Russians retreated to allow Ukraine to retreat (later) and save face. Or they didn’t retreat but brought back a couple thousand soldiers to allow the US some margin to deescalate. But so far, since Donetsk is still being shelled, I think Russia blinked. Not facing Ukraine mind you, but an internal Russian opinion that does not want war unless really necessary.
According to this Greek site it would appear the attacks are not all one way. This describes a Russian drone attack. I have no idea of the reliability of this site.

The West is going forward, they know Russia is weak, as liberal elites around Putin would do anything for deals with EU.
THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AP) — A key legal adviser to the Dutch Supreme Court on Friday recommended dismissing Russia’s appeal against the reinstatement of a $50 billion compensation award to former shareholders of the Yukos oil company.
Russia wants the decision legally. Practically, they will never pay anyone $50 Billion in the Yukos case.
And if assets outside Russia are attached, Russia will balance that theft with action of her own.
I tend to think that this is one of those red lines. The kind that gets asymmetrical reaction.
This is Russia the West is messing with, not Syria. Russia has plenty of means to “repay” the blows she suffers from the West.
Marko, it may be best to give the full background to the Yukos case and not just an AP headline; also Russia is not weak! This article goes into more depth and points out that it is advice and not legally binding and the history and background. Russia will not pay this illegal fine and judgement if this court wishes to go down this route:
https://www.rt.com/russia/521963-court-yukos-reject-appeal/
“….On Friday, Paul Vlas, the chief legal advisor to the court, issued an independent advisory opinion stating that the original ruling, which Russian lawyers describe as “non-binding.” It backed a previous decision which handed the colossal sum to oligarchs who lost cash when Yukos was bankrupted, should be upheld. The financiers behind the now-defunct firm say its assets were seized over an outstanding tax bill in a move that amounted to state appropriation.
A spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Justice said in a statement to RT that, while the decision, issued “without any reasonable basis,” was a setback, it hoped it would not influence the eventual outcome of the case.
The official said that the advice “is advisory, not binding for the court,” and added that the Prosecutor General had “ignored evidence provided by the Russian Federation showing legal errors made by [earlier court rulings], as well as unlawful actions of former Yukos shareholders during the alleged ‘investment’ process and the legal proceedings……..”
The Russian Constitutional court also ruled:
“……In December, Moscow’s Constitutional Court, one of its highest judicial authorities, ruled that Russia could refuse to pay the settlement sum if appeals eventually fail. As well as parallel cases in the UK and US, the complaints have been heard by a court in The Hague, which awarded the company’s former shareholders a $57 billion payout from the Russian government earlier this year. The Netherlands claims jurisdiction under the terms of the Energy Charter Treaty, which Russia is a signatory to but never ratified. It contains provisions that allow disputes to be settled by international courts……”
You have forgotten that Russia’s law stands above international law according to a Russian court ruling last year.
Whatever the Hague throws at Russia, it wouldn’t be valid and have weight.
Astronomical $50B fine never ment to be collected. It is insurance in case Russia sue Germany and other involved parties for breaking Nord Stream 2 contract.
Does that mean they coned gullible Russians in wasting $10+B on project that never meant to be completed? Well…yeah. Wouldnt be the first time.
Russian negotiatiors should know better, and sell them gas on source leaving Germans to build pipeline themselves.
I hope that fortunate developments in last couple of years, broke the spell of AngloZionists sabotage, and that NS2 will become operational.
A deadlock:
“Ukraine is ready for negotiations with France, Germany and Russia anywhere in Donbass, but without the participation of the DPR and LPR – speaker of the Kiev delegation to the TCG Alexey Arestovich”
They pulled tail between the legs, and dictate terms for negotiation…
What a nerve!
(Didn’t they already negotiated something called “The Minsk-2 agreement”?)
Again I provide for myself the truth about this quote: Number one surviving rule: “Never bully with mothers in law, the mother nature and Russians.”
“…but for all of Europe: Russia does want, or need, the Ukraine and Russia won’t take it over, even in case of a full-scale war.”
It should say: Russia does not want, or need, the Ukraine
:)
I have just been listening on twitter to shelling around a village (Staromykhailivka) to the west of Donetsk.
EndgameWW3 Tweets a comment: “The shelling has really increased tonight in the Donbass.”
I think … I think that Russia will intervene in Donbass only after Nord Stream 2 start working.
Not before that. NS2 is not important too much economically.
But it is important to Russia strategically.
So, IF and WHEN NS 2 starts working, then we can expect Russia to do something to force Ukronazis to stop that violence.
Agreed a temporary reprieve. Keeping that amount of forces deployed indefinitely would also cost a fortune. So maybe creating a “window of opportunity” for fools to take and then finalize “the game” once and for all.
Donbass is a frozen conflict and will remain so for years more.
The entire West military backed away from the front the Russian’s presented.
Time is on the side of Russia. Every day, week, month and year, Russia gets stronger in every way.
The Bear growled and the West froze and backed away.
Putin always plays for time, with time, controlling events, setting off balance his opponent with time. This is how he gains advantage.
The advantage now is Putin’s. Kiev wants to talk. Putin welcomes the talk, in Moscow, about anything other than Minsk 2 which he insists Kiev must obey and act upon.
Kiev wants to not even meet in Minsk any longer. So Kozak says let’s meet in Donbass. Will France and Germany and Kiev want to come to the contact zone and risk their lives like they risk the lives of children and babushkas every day and night?
The game will shift to cyberwar, infowar, color revolution stagings, sanctions and demonizations. The stuff of which annoys the Kremlin but offers small threat.
There is only one way to get Russia to move into Ukraine. Permit the Ukies to make an act of war on Russia or an attempt to conquer Donbass. The end is known by all. Ukraine will cease to exist.
Russia is too powerful. Time is on Russia’s side.
Putin is too clever, too patient, and known to use force in surprising ways. The West has nothing to stop Russian moves, nothing to cope with Putin’s strategies.
This pitched battle since 1999 is unique in world history. A single man, savior of his nation, faces half the world intent on destroying his country, not just defeating it, but breaking it into pieces and fleecing it of all its riches, killing off its population. Putin and Shoigu have prevented that calamity. Now they are moving forward.
The move they make is eastward, Eurasia.
This leaves the West with no opponent, no adversary. Russia merely stands sentinel, prepared to destroy any attacker. They will finish any war started by the West.
Cold War 2.0? Iron Curtain 2.0?
More like checkmate.
The Russians will never take the bait to be an aggressor.
The US cannot win a war that will bring upon itself an Apocalypse at hypersonic speed.
The only hope for the Russophobes is a whole new game. It’s called Multipolarity. The West will be facing Eurasia on even terms, but no hegemony.
The only hope for the Russophobes is a whole new game. It’s called Multipolarity. The West will be facing Eurasia on even terms, but no hegemony…………………..
for the west and usa in specific this requires an entire reformation of the educational system from primary school through graduate school. whole teams of studies have to eliminated or drastically curtailed…….all the grievance studies programs gone, most of the really soft humanities studies and the STEM programs have to be placed on a pedestal with full msm backing softly encouraging through hollywood entertainments for parents to encourage kids to go STEM not humanities.
even IF this happened today it would take a full generation to see results in the united states and we all know it won’t happen anytime soon thus rendering america no longer able to compete against rising eurasia. in 20 years it will near impossible to turn the ship around as too many then adults will be full imbued with grievane, social justice and equality over any concept of meritocracy.
we will become are becoming in the words of gore vidal something between ”hypertense brazil and lachrymose argentina””
The Liberal Cult loon elites already are attacking Math. It’s white supremacist to require Math skills.
You are right about how they are carving out their own core.
Uroboros. Self-devouring.
Larch,
The Liberal cultists will keep maths as a pure Russophobic/Sinophobic frill. Like: ”Who killed a million gazillion of peoples (plural tense, mind you): Stalin or Mao? Justify your answer”.
At the rate things are going, the outstanding mathematical skills prevalent in Russia will be proof positive of her very evil, very racist instincts, LOL.
Agreed. Larchmonter is optimistic in thinking that the West will be approaching Eurasia on even terms. The West won’t be so lucky.
I appreciate your comments about education in the USA. Just now there’s a report on the American RT site that the state of Virginia is eliminating all advanced math classes offered before the eleventh grade — apparently to assuage the tender feefies of those who due to bad schooling or poor intellect wouldn’t have qualified for such classes. And let’s not even go into the new woke theory that math is inherently racist anyway! The only thing American education has going for it is the occasional private school with standards, and universities whose reputations are based solely on the size of their endowments, the number of volumes in their libraries, and the number of grants and Nobel prizes they collect–often by foreign-born faculty, of course. The quality of American education — and with it American intellectual thought — will continue to deteriorate; there’s simply nothing stopping the decline. Believe me, I’ve seen it all at first hand!
Those private schools ($58,000/year for students under 18 years old !), have gone ‘woke’ but a lot of parents are finally noticing. A separate educational system is going to be developed. The public school system is disintegrating.
And with it America’s practical prowess. Hard to operate a lathe if you cannot do basic math.
Engineers formerly used tables to find the specifications they needed for a given job. Now they use apps on their smart phones. Presumably machinists do the same. The real problem is one of basic common sense and the ability to reason logically (which includes math), something almost extinct among the young.
Meanwhile the Federal Reserve has become a Ponzi scheme. Where will it end?
Yes, but it will be a “separate educational system” only for those who can afford the eye-watering tuition–in other words, a tiny elite. Or, more likely, it will result in an intensification of what we already have: a tiny handful of Phillips Exeters and Choates for the old-money elites and the occasional diversity tokens, religious indoctrination centers (some of which still teach things like math and proper grammar, but probably not for long) for those in the upper middle class who waste money on such, and babysitting enterprises/internment camps for the vast majority. That doesn’t bode well for the intellectual, political, or economic health of a country that is already deeply on the skids.
actually i think decent schooling which allows the young to read, write, do basic mathematics and think logically and critically will be implemented by widespread homeschooling and private schools that maintain classical standards.
public schools in the usa are finished as a source of anything except woke indoctrination. college for the masses has already devalued that degree enormously to the point employers widely discount its value.
i have read many ”’ actual letters”’ written by 19th century americans going west in the 1840-1870’s back to family in the east. these letters are written by men who had little more than primary education and are a testament to the quality of schooling they enjoyed. eloquent writing on the most mundane topics. i read an actual letter sent by fighter to his family back east who fought in sam houstons army just after the alamo when they were chasing down santa ana’s army. amazing writing for someone who had what we call today 6th grad schooling!
school today is a joke by comparison
This thread is going off topic and should be taken to the MFC, mod
No. Something like Charter Schools. The money will go with the kid. This already exists in many States, including my own, NH. The amount of money available is going to increase. It will be aBattlr Royale. The teachers unions have made some real enemies.
Goodness gracious… looks like this discussion is wandering pretty far off topic… not that it’s not interesting but it’s out of place in this thread. Please take any further discussion of this topic to the Moveable Feast Cafe. Thank-you. Respectfully, your Moderator.
Virginia to revamp math curriculum, CANCEL advanced courses prior to last two years of high school to force racial equity

STEM in the US system is a sucker’s bet. The country is run by “suits”, not “techies.” Engineers tend to be throwaway workers. High-tech skills is a capital investment that takes a lot of time and money to acquire, but there is a high rate of capital destruction, which the former STEM students learn to their chagrin. Even today, on the cusp of the demise of the USA as we knew it, I would not advise young people to pursue a technical career. A good technical hobby can be fun and might create skills to use after the apocalypse, but it makes a lousy day job, as things stand. The MSM tries to promote the industries where corporations have a perceived labor shortage. I’ve seen the MSM “talk up” nursing, engineering, even teaching. Typical MSM lies. If a field has good compensation, people flock to it. The MSM don’t have to “talk up” the professions of corporate lawyers, M.D.’s, and salespeople, because the compensation is more than adequate. In the US, the “suits” despise the “techies” and vice-versa, but the suits have the upper hand. Most engineers over 30 or 40 can tell you a lot about that. On the other hand, some of the war industries offer cushy jobs for life, but you pay with your soul.
Putin and lavrov are masters of converting winnable wars into frozen conflict of open festering wound.
Shameless reaction rather than any action or plan of own.
Still apologists will seek all sorts of explanation of so called chess move by putin!
Russia is becoming unreliable partner for her allies.
Utter Biswapriyology.
Terribly sorry:
Putin and Russia make a difference. Internet warriors do not. Putin has a rock-solid mass base at home and abroad. Internet warriors have not. Deal with it.
Russia continues to pose the greatest geopolitical and military obstacle facing Anglo-Zionists (Machine translation from original article in Portuguese):
The last time the West tried to destroy Russia via military conquest, things ended like this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTrBJ9Grm5w&t=28s
Unfortunately, the West, especially its profoundly incompetent and erratic elites, on the whole seems to have not yet learned the lesson. The Western military, notably the military officers who wallow in NATO, these, too, have not yet learned their lesson and it seems that no matter how much history books they read, they will continue to repeat the same mistake that the military officers of Napoleon and Hitler made , that is, to blindly follow the orders given to them, even if it means more than certain destruction of their own countries and possibly even their families.
The fact is that Russia today, even more than China after all, continues to represent the greatest geopolitical and military obstacle facing the Anglo-Zionists:
« There are forces that want to control and direct mankind. These forces use the US as their enforcer. The Trump-related part of the US elites want the US to be the main beneficiary of the process. The Biden-related part of the US elites is more globally-oriented. Russia is ready to adjust to some of their demands (vaccination, climate) in order to avoid a final showdown. On the other hand, we don’t completely know what these global elites really want. And why the sense of urgency? Why the lack of concern for the American people or the Russians or the Europeans? Perhaps Davos is the new center of power and they are simply upset by Putin’s disobedience?
What we can say for certain is that imperialists always seek world hegemony. Independent Russia presents a challenge to that plan. Perhaps, western elites think they can bring Russia into full compliance by brinkmanship and threatening war? Perhaps, what we’re seeing in the Ukraine is an attempt to browbeat Russia into obedience? The danger is that they will push things too far and start a war they can neither manage or contain.
Putin remembers the fate of Saddam and Gadhafi. He’s not going to throw in the towel and back down. He’s not going to give up or give in. »
You don’t have to be a genius to realize that if the NATO military does not withdraw from power (by force if necessary …), the sinister elite who are in charge of their countries, the risk that Europe runs from being obliterated in a war between the US / NATO and Russia is tremendous. Russia already has plenty of capacity to militarily destroy NATO and completely incinerate all military bases located in Continental Europe. NATO military officers, like Satan’s prostitutes, would do well to stop their provocations and stop trying to steal honey from the Russian bear, otherwise they still run the risk of being without their heads and not only …

Could be that the Empire is just probing Russias capability. The overriding factor is still the MAD, so the empire can never wage a fullscale war against Russia/China and affiliates.
So there are imho several goals here:
Probing, Studying of Capability and of course grabbing opportunities. I think that’s one of the major features of western mindset/governance: opportunistic thinking. There are likely no true longterm plans, the kind of, for example, China has been employing. Stir up some chaos, see how the opponent responds and grab what you can. Hooray cowboy/pirate mindset.
Totally agree with this analysis of the US mindset
“What about the deescalation…”
FWIW it seems like a Strategy to change the Imperial Strategy. It worked. For now. Now time to send some forces elsewhere. However the Logic of a Pirate Empire is plunder…and the “pirates” are essentially the races of the Northern and Western European peninsula…I’m speaking a thalassocratic method evolved from 2,000 + years to her royalness the queen and of course the good fellas in “some governments”. These forces are in foundational zuswang. They can change their Strategy, and Tactics, but the imperative of plunder remains…and the deescalation signal only a skirmish. Just now the fundamental contradictions of Imperial City are destroying the basis of the State – I bet Kennan’s Long Telegram about USSR could be seen as a mirror of Empire to-day.
I agree with post that some private messages were probably sent…something like “We have you, personally, in “rifle sights”, Friend, so to say.”
There will be no end to the war, They’ll simply re-group and double (hey it’ what they do!)
I note VVP speech 21st is congruent with many Sun Tsu Principles… I disagree, therefore, with the idea that VVP does not design to isolate Russia at all, save as a intermediate Tactic, his proper goal is to re-form his enemy into a genuine friend, if we assume he’ll continue with the Master.
Mr. P, I agree. Putin is a builder by nature.
“I destroy my enemy when I make him my friend”.
Yes, I think something may have been said to someone. I felt the same way when obammy was all set to bomb Syria, and then he didn’t. I believe dempsey, Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman, resigned soon after. He was either fired or got scared. I think he didn’t want to be part in the disaster that was described to him.
Considering the multiple areas of stress which the west has imposed on Russia: Syria, South Ossetia, Crimea, Belarus, a quick and very dramatic show of force was sufficient to stop the conflict in Donbas from becoming an all-out war. In demonstrating her agility, Russia has shown how any threat, anywhere, can be thwarted. Doing it this way prevents her from getting bogged down.
I suspect; and perhaps hope that Russia has in this instance been very clever. Looking at the pace of the entire escalation process suggests a preplanned operation. Consider:-
1/- The Pentagon is supposedly working upon a report, seriously weighing the probably of success of a war with Russia. This report is due in June of this year.
2/-The Defender Europe Military excercises are due to climax in June of this year. Ukraine moving men and materiel to the contact line in large numbers, plus calling up reservists.
President V.V. Putin calling up 137,000 for military duty. followed by a large build up of Russian forces along the Russia/Ukraine border.
I have a feeling(no evidence) that Russia has reinforced Materiel, systems and equipment, and largely withdrawn, leaving Crimea and (other areas) reinforced and only requiring a rapid deployment of troops to bring to full strength. A fine message.
“Anyway, I will write a more detailed analysis of this situation next week, …….”
I’m hoping that you include in it your analysis of “Urkaine’s” economic (imports/exports/gas-transit fees) and financial situation — specifically, the amount of money that the BoE, ECB, IMF, World Bank, USAID, NED or the Fed might be granting or loaning to the Ukrainian government in order to literally keep Operation Ukraine a “going concern” and whether that amount is increasing or decreasing.
Hi, bro,
I think you meant to say that “Russia does NOT want or need the Ukraine…”
I wish Russia would at least destroy those who are murdering Donbas citizens but i trust Mr. Putin.

Firstly, let me add my voice to the others here at The Vineyard, to please keep the “Open Threads” going, they are a terrific idea. Thank you Saker.
Secondly, let’s all spare a thought for the poor clown Volodymyr Zelensky, I mean, he really is in a pickle. Perhaps it’s finally dawning on him that being a Pres “for reals” is a whole different kettle of fish from playing one on the telly!
The last thing he and his handlers want is for Minsk 2 to go ahead. Imagine all those pro-Russian voters coming back into the elections, it would tip the scales enough to force out the putchists overnight.
Meanwhile, the Euro-Zone has got the message loud and clear — poke the bear enough and you will be singing in the heavenly choir (or downstairs a bit!) — so no help for Ze from that quarter.
The crazies around Ze will be frustrated with him to the max. And they are not known for their restraint.
And to add to his woes the Ukrainian economy is about to tank with terminal impact.
What is the bet that Ze is busy learning Swiss-German and has his private jet revved up 24/7 for his hasty escape to a villa in Switzerland?
Moral of the story — don’t get on the mat against a master black belt.
Associated Press (AP) had a pic of him on its twitts. Sorry no link.
Ze’s face has fatten up, his eyes have sunk, and he looks…. frightened, bewildered, something.
I thought. He’s morphing into Porky poroshenko.
Russia’s completely in the drivers’ seat. Here is the Kiev regime’s situation: Damn if they do and damn if they don’t. This also goes for the west’s predicament. Russia’s position in that area is so absolutely predominant that I wouldn’t be surprised if there are not powerful people in the Russian state who are chomping at the bit to liberate not just the Donbass but the rest of southern Ukraine. Putin has so many options that it’s like a kid in the candy shop, can’t decide which flavor to get.
Andrei My Orthodox Brother,
The Neocons are Psychopaths and you and I both know this. This is definitely only a reprieve. At the same time I do think this is clear indication that everyone in Washington knows they cannot defeat Russia in a conventional war on or near it’s own borders. Such a war would go nuclear and end up in catastrophe for the entire Planet and the human race.
Another indication of this is that Biden is actually going to remove American forces from Afghanistan and has restarted talks with Iran despite the fact that pro-Iranian militia in Iraq are attacking US Convoys and even military installations on a daily basis now. That tells me that the US Military is even in no shape to fight a major counter insurgency in the Middle East let alone have a showdown with nuclear armed powers like Russia or China.

This comes on the heels of that apparent false flag (the errant missile from Syria that landed near an Israeli nuclear power plant). I think the Zionist lobby in Washington is panicking. That’s why they are making their political prostitutes on Capitol Hill reaffirm their “commitment to Israel”.
We are truly living in interesting and historic times with tectonic shifts taking place in the geopolitical theater. The Empire is visibly weakening before our eyes while at the same time it is turning on it’s own citizens looking to turn the West into a giant dystopian technocratic internment camp. God save us.
re: the errant missile, there are rumours that it wasn’t in the least errant but intended, & iranian, in return for the bomb smuggled into their nuclear plant. the errant missile was close, not too close but near enough to signal to the israelis that they must cease & desist such with such foolishness. the iranians missiles are accurate. & they have gained israel’s full attention.
I believe that you are correct. The claim that this was an errant “surface-to-air” missile sounds like hogwash. A surface to air missile carries only a big enough warhead to damage a nearby aircraft. The Dimona missile caused a huge explosion that was heard for many miles throughout Israel. The Jerusalem Post said that “Reports from across the country, including central Israel and Jerusalem, spoke of “loud explosions” that “shook the houses.”
And it was claimed to be an S200 which has a range of only 250 klms. The explosion near Dimona is far and away out of range for that missile type.
Indeed, the parasitoid state (of mind) occupying Palestine must be shitting bricks over this ‘accident’ event.
Now any Israeli jet ‘target’ can be missed by these clearly substandard Iranian rockets (/sarc) and cause a nuclear outcome — why develop and send a nuclear missile when the enemy has built one on their own home turf just waiting for ‘deconstruction’. Btw, how is Chernobyl going these days?
Obviously the USA Fed Reserve will now have to unload (out of thin air) another $zillion for the support of the otherwise unviable apartheid state of zionist cult occupation in the ME.
In the title of that RT article, change the two words “security aid” to the single word “surrender” and the article makes much more sense.
Totally agree with your analysis Saker, that nothing is resolved.
Zelensky has pulled out of the Minsk agreements and France & Germany, who are supposed to be guarantors of this peace deal, are actively undermining it by egging him on…
Ukrainian forces have escalated their shelling of Donbass.
The only “de-escalation” we ‘ve seen is that US has decided not to send war ships to the Black Sea and has somewhat softened the rhetoric.
Where is the arms embargo on Ukraine? Where are the carrots & sticks to bring the peace process back on track? There are no such measures because the West wants this conflict.
Returning army to their barracs but only some of them…some will stay
And they can be redeployed to previous battle postions in less than one day.
Honestly, Russia have brought Armed Forces to perfect condition.
The West realized what they are dealing with now…
I hope they received the message.
Only, I think Russia should do something to stop this harassing of LDNR by Ukro Army all the time
And yes, the West is surprised that Russia does not want Ukraine…
Not NOW not NOW
Russia will take over ENTIRE Ukraine. But Russia has to be much stronger economically to undertake such task.
Putin’s speech was very good and effective. The West has got the message and we can see confused reactions in the West.
They have to take Vlad’s warning seriously. They know that.
Putin has never talked like this couple of sentences. And they are surprised. They perhaps expected that Russia will turn another cheek forever.
This means only one thing – that Russia is ready. Both, militarily and economically. Finally.
GOOD!
I confess I’ve never read Kipling, so I like to picture this whole encounter as a good ole fashioned Western (as in movie) showdown.
In a scene in the superbly acted ‘Tombstone’, Doc Holliday was facing down gunslinger Johnny Ringo. Just love the dialogue. Here’s how it went:
Ringo (Peers at a figure among the trees and spots Holliday): Well, I didn’t think you had it in you.
Holliday: I’m your huckleberry. (Advances) Why, Johnny Ringo. You look like somebody just walked over your grave.
R: It’s not with you Holliday.
H: I beg to differ sir. We started a game we never got to finish….play for blood, remember?
R: I was just foolin’ about.
Holliday (deadpan expression): I wasn’t…
Ringo, the swaggering gunman so used to terrorising lesser men, looks shocked, dismayed, and actually scared; like someone realising the stupid things he did is about to bring about his end here on earth. They circle each other.
Holliday: Say when…
:
…Ringo ends up dead.

No shooting in this latest RF-Empire showdown but I imagine many of those in the politico- military establishment in the Empire who are still lucid would have had flashes of similar scenes playing in their head and kept their gun holstered.
What about the British navy? Will they still send their latest air warfare destroyer and a sub-hunting frigate to the Black Sea in May as loudly advertised? In present circumstances, most likely no. I think they’re secretly delighted – and much relieved — that RF has, in their propaganda broadcasts, ‘retreated’ from the front. What better excuse not to send the ships than the fact that RF has ‘blinked’. The great unwashed in the Empire will swallow that hogwash down to the last drop but RF and Nato know the real score. But circumstances might change in May, so we’ll see.
US/Nato and most certainly the Ukraine have just got a reprieve, that’s for sure. The world too — standoff between nuclear states, remember? To my mind this standoff will remain ‘as is’ until it becomes too costly — deploying militaries is expensive — for either one. It’s cheaper for RF since they are, actually, on home ground. I don’t play poker but I’ll bet the West (as in geopolitics) will fold on this one.
To Stand Easy
I had replied to you before re one of your comments, and reading this one, something compels me to reply once again. You mentioned the so-called British Navy, sending warships to the Black Sea. You know what that reminds me of: “The mouse that roared!” They still cannot get it – they are absolutely nothing on the global chessboard anymore. Yes, the City of London psychopaths are still in some control, but that is rapidly slipping thru their ugly fingers.
As far as so-called Britain is concerned, their “glory days” are well and truly over! And have been for a long, long time. But they, sadly for them, still cannot come to grips with that, imagining themselves to be some actual global power!? Pathetic. I don’t think they will be even allowed into the Black Sea, to try and strut their ” former glory”, and if they do manage to get there, they will meet the Russian Navy. I only hope they will have enough supplies of diapers. Also, their very active MI6 there is going to come a cropper, it’s high time to show them the door! English sc.m.
Katerina
Fully agree re British. Putin pegged them perfectly in his Kipling reference. Sublime ! God be with him, I believe he is.
Re British navy warships to Black Sea, are they not part of a carrier group to the East Med, then peeling off. Can’t find link for now, sorry. Perhaps they were never intended for the Black sea, suicidal. Perhaps a cover story to deflect from a lot of warships converging off Syria.
Saker : the threads, your intros., and the comments are of the highest quality. Sincere thanks to all.
Regarding quite a few posts submitted here about Kipling’s Jungle book — well, in this particular case rather its namesake movie distributed in 1967 by Walt Disney Productions:
There is something extraordinarily conspicuous about these lines below with regard to Russia and the West:
<blockquote
Now I’m the king of the swingers
Oh, the jungle VIP
I’ve reached the top and had to stop
And that’s what botherin’ me
I wanna be a man, mancub
And stroll right into town
And be just like the other men
I’m tired of monkeyin’ around!
Oh, oobee doo
I wanna be like you
I wanna walk like you
Talk like you, too
You’ll see it’s true
An ape like me
Can learn to be human too
When the ”collective West” has finally reached this stage, I’m willing to admit it is making progress at long last. Putin might just dismiss their singing as flattery, but he’ll certainly be amused about the ’Western partners’ showing some talent for once.
For those who never read anything by Kipling, here he is in his Imperialist nutshell:
Take up the White Man’s burden–
Send forth the best ye breed–
Go bind your sons to exile
To serve your captives’ need;
To wait in heavy harness,
On fluttered folk and wild–
Your new-caught, sullen peoples,
Half-devil and half-child.
Kipling’s phrase “the Great Game” is still used to describe the struggle in Central Asia. It comes from Kim, a novel about British secret agents written in the era of the Crimean War — the Anglo Zio Capitalist Empire’s first attack on Central Asia.
So no great loss in not having read Kipling then doctor :)
Thanks for the heads-up.
Katerina, ditto your sentiments re Brits. Johnson trying to grab war criminal Blair’s crown as US president’s favourite poodle.
Mike, the two warships are part of the Queen Elizabeth carrier group. Two will peel off ostensibly to the Black Sea next month, at least that’s what their propaganda outlets say. But, like you say, it is suicidal to confront RF forces there. Their commanders know it, their sailors know it.
And yet, Saker, regarding the insane ukrainians, they continued and even stepped up their attack against the 2 Republics. Yesterday evening, in the centre of Donetsk, I was told by the person to whom I was speaking, that war sounds were heard in the background.
You said: ‘Right now “Biden” is licking his wounds’ – I don’t think that’s possible, Saker, as I think he doesn’t even remember it, at least not like it happened, his memories are probably merged into a tangled mess.
So what it comes down to, is a difference of timescales, Putin would like to delay for as long as possible, but bearing in mind that he will have to act if the satanic usg says it will accept ukraine into hato. He also has another timebomb to worry about: ukraine’s nuclear reactors, how long has he got before something serious happens to one or more? You don’t think the usg would care if something bad happens nuclearwise?
And then Putin acting, could deal with the yank biolabs, or most of them.
The usg would rather have something bad happen sooner than later, like before the elections in September, and also regarding before completion of NS2.
Vladimir Putin will be remembered as a great leader. That is until the fact checkers have a little look. Oh well. Now you know why library burning was always popular. Now writing it on paper is contribution to climate change. What will be left of the library if the power goes out? Oh no Mr Bill. Slugo be strong now. It is my prayer that Vlad will continue to seek good counsel. It is obvious he has had some.
These thoughts of mine are now a couple of days old.
After having read a lot about the famous Defender2021 I cranked up my Google Earth Pro and had a look at Europe.
Some authors believe that NATO might strike out of the ongoing maneuver ( a military move to start a blitzkrieg). Since the Russians know that too as a precaution they employ also in a large military exercise enough troops and equipment to forestall any possible NATO adventure.
My look at the map of Europe brought back the thought of Barbarossa 2 but without the Heeresgruppe Mitte. Also there is no von Manstein with a 11th. Army to take Crimea.
NATO might try it nevertheless.
The Russian weakness in this case is the new bridge over the straight of Kertsh. In a case of retaking Crimea the bridge has to be interrupted in order to make resupplying the defenders of Crimea much more difficult.
There is no doubt at all that Russia will keep control of the Black Sea with substantial more navy assets than Russia had during WWII. The second weakness is the shortage of water on the Crimea.
Comments are interesting but of interest to me is, and I suppose my view is from a distance, how the statements form every section of the Russian Government have in my opinion stepped up a level or two and all bear the same resolute message………… We are “Pissed off” and if you can’t understand that look out!
I have followed Putin for some years and I don’t recollect his overt dismissal of such as the US even in his retiring and courteous manner, being displayed as it is now.
Lavrov? And if there was anyone as reserved and obliging more than him I would like to know, but even he had no hesitation in eviscerating the EU individual standing a metre away not so long ago?
In all of this I’m convinced Russia and its apparent unequivocal position which appears to be now solidified by the clear understanding China will stand with it, is telling the US and the UK………. It’s not one but two you are going to have to take on and Iran has China’s energy in hand?
Which begs the question…….. Will the US go for “Broke”?
Kierath, I think Stand Easy has answered your question without intending to (first 3 lines in the post after yours).
All I see is a rabid and sick day animal, but will the citizens stand for being bit??
OT: Navalny ends ‘hunger strike.’
Another AZE PR stunt falls flat. Everybody knows this clown isn’t going to die willingly for any cause. On the contrary he wants very much to live, period.
Remarkable man, Navalny; a medical marvel. First he survived novichok, now he’s survived self-induced diabetic coma. He’ll probably survive polonium poisoning next.
News widely reported by Western MSM.
Up to now, my contempt regarding our beloved Esquire Analny Navalny has come in the form of refined amusement, but here this skunk and punk passing for ”regime critic” has — yes — crossed a red line. It is a really vile insult to all heroes, past and present, around the world who have went through the sacrifice of self-imposed starvation in the struggle for liberation and emancipation of their countries and peoples. It perfectly reflects the arrogance of a demoralised junkie who has no moral compass whatsoever (except for Nazism, of course).
Dear Saker,
I just watched the vid clip of Mercouris, posted by Zeuss, and while watching it, there was a segment where he talked about Zelensky essentially being hung out to dry by the west. Not surprising. You said, and we all knew, that would happen. It always does; it’s what they do.
Then comes Zelensky’s request to meet with Putin. And the thought popped in my head that Zelensky is looking for new protection. He’s not going to invade the Donbas now. He’s going to have to figure out his nazi problem because the nazis are going to be pissed that they don’t get their war. So how does he survive? Could he turn all “night of the long knives” on the ukie far right, and survive the American retribution with Russians protection? Interesting thought exercise, No?
Putin rescued:
Yanukovych
Assad
Erdogan
Lukashenko
Armenia
(These are what we know)
He did not rescue Gaddafi. (Does he regret that? Or was he unable? )
Will he rescue Zelinskii?
Some rescue animals can be rehabilitated. Others are better euthanized.
Yanukovych fled to Russia. He got asylum, but Russia was unable to preserve him as leader of his country, unlike Erdogan, Lukashenko..etc.
Probably Maduro should be on your list…?
and Obama – Putin helped him get out of bombing Syria – that time regarding Chemical Weapons…I think Putin wrote a letter in the NYTs or something.
Putin’s such an amazing asset to the planet right now. I like Xi too. And Maduro and the president of Mexico too.
gaddaffi…was under medvedev’s watch & yes, imho, it is something both deeply regret. i imagine it was medvedev’s moment of awakening in regards to the zianato evil & putin realizing the extent of the work ahead. it hints @ putin’s witnessing the effect medvedev’s horrible choice had upon him & the world.
Zelensky only wanted to meet with Putin so he could boost his now non-existent political standing. If someone an get a phot-op standing next too a truly great person, that’s a great opportunity. Zelensky went to Paris and could not even get a public meeting with any of the French leaders. So he’s toast.
Zelensky is not going to ask for a Russian helicopter to carry him to safety because Zelensky can always ask his patron, Kolomoisky, for an emergency ride to Israel. Zelensky should take a permanent vacation, because one of the possible False Flags is “Them nasty Russkies, Russkies I tell ya” assassinating Zelensky. I’m sure the Jewish comedian/president has thought about that possibility. He should have stuck to TV scripts.
@Cosimo
”If someone gets a phot-op standing next to a truly great person /Putin/, that’s a great opportunity. Zelensky went to Paris and could not even get a public meeting with any of the French leaders. So he’s toast.”
Mr. Greenclown standing next to Putin would certainly not make him popular no matter where you look: Ukraine, Russia, the ”collective West”, etc. Putin, by contrast, has been photographed with most of the West’s imbeciles and scum, but hasn’t seen any significant loss of his approval (or lack of it!) worldwide. His determination, courage, and perspicacity as a leader is plain for all to see; same conclusion for Russia’s friends and foes alike. As for Greenclown’s pilgrimages to the Euro-trash, what he gets is the sheer contempt he richly deserves as the top representative of a totally failed Quisling regime after the Maidan putsch, on which they had placed so much hope and money.
”Zelensky is not going to ask for a Russian helicopter to carry him to safety because Zelensky can always ask his patron, Kolomoisky, for an emergency ride to Israel. Zelensky should take a permanent vacation, because one of the possible False Flags is ’Them nasty Russkies, Russkies I tell ya’ assassinating Zelensky.”
Absolutely correct. Greenclown is the same kind of debris as Navalny/Nemtsov/Tikhanovskaya: More worth dead than alive. On second thought, what use would he be to the Zionist Entity strolling around down there? Clownish acts of braggadocio against Hezbollah and Syria?
Israel has an assortment of criminals who are in need of entertainment, so Zelensky could try stand-up comedy. His audience might include:
The Sackler family (owners of Purdue Pharmaceuticals and OxyContin infamy with 250,000 deaths, but nothing to do with Purdue Univ, which was just a good goyim name to hide behind.)
The “ghost” of Jeffrey Epstein.
Other fugitives from justice who are protected by THe Jewish State, and whose names are therefore not publicized.
Who knows, someday some or all of the seven Jewish oligarchs of the Ukraine might find themselves in Israel and in need of some laughs, if their careers as respected thieves come to an end.
If at first you don’t succeed, try, try, try again.

What else can they say? Americans are good in converting a real defeat to a virtual victory, in their minds and the mass of their brainwashed followers only.
Their phantastic voluntaristic great virtual world, ignoring real material reality, will eventually be the trigger of WWIII. This could be tomorrow, in one month or in one year….
Thank you Saker. I can see where Ze has boxed himself in. What’s his exit strategy? Asylum to possibly be granted by Israel, Poland or Canada? If he stays, how will he avoid being killed by the Ukronazis? Should he ever agree to the Minsk protocol’s he is surely a dead man. It appears to be a no win situation for him and west Ukraine.

by packing up and heading back to the barracks is akin to telling the west, we help you save your face, but if you suddenly attack fueled by your snake behaviour, you will both lose your face and your head. and that we will guarrantee you.
Slightly off topic. Great commentary as usual. I understand The Saker is a Russian national living in the US. For US power brokers this blog must surely be seen as seriously seditious, if only because it publishes truths that they don’t want the sheeple to know about.
Fully understand why he de-linked from Southfront, but if TPTB want to ‘deal’ with him they’ll make shit up and throw him in prison irrespective of details like that.
Anyway, Russia looks way more appealing as a place to live than the crazy ol’ US, so if I were The Saker I’d be looking to get home asap, unless I had insurmountable reasons to stay.
Жељко из Крајине,
Things seem to be deescalating a bit, following a rapid and massive show of force and determination by the Russians.
Will it continue? I am not an optimist. If it does, it means that that the top of the ponzi-scheme anglozionist/usury decission makers aquiesce to their inevitable downfall in the near/midterm period, as the Euroasian integration develops, accompanied by further military strengthening of Russia, China, Iran… And further weakening (economic and military) of the empire.
The situation is further worsened by a lack of a lucid and clear-headed leadership of the formal government of the top of the empire. You have a derelict demented man that was placed at the top, whose intelect is impaired, and who has a grudge against “Russia” (a la Clinton) because they dared to touch his darling (degenerate) son and expose the family “bussines”. A flighty VP similar to a cabbage buterfly. An incompetent secretary of defense chosen according to woke criteria. A biased ukro secretary of state. And nobody in charge. So one morning you might listen to the advice of one group, the next of another. And the whole bunch controlled by the neocon cabal.
The future is bleak.
There can be no doubt the Donbass and Ukraine situation is part of the EU’s push eastward.
And that Merkel and Macron and their puppetmasters are heavily involved.
It will end badly for them as it has in the past.
This may be a “politically incorrect” viewpoint, but I think Russia lost significant ground. Case in point: the Ukrainian standpoint has not changed one iota, Zelensky has mobilised even more forces, and Russia has refused to absorb Belarus and the DPR/LPR. The Western approach has obviously not changed. The fact that the status quo remains in place is itself an indicator of Russian weakness. One cannot praise Putin regardless of realities on the ground. Unfortunately, many people here like to insinuate that whatever Putin does is a “win/win” for Russia. Had the West been truly fearful of Russia, its aggressive actions would have been halted or curtailed by now. Yet we see no limitations on its behaviour, given the flagrancy we observe daily. Prior to Putin’s speech, many people here were hoping for, at the very least, Russia’s commitment to annexing Belarus and the DPR/LNR, with the formation of a Russian land-bridge connecting the Donbas’ with Transnistria, Odessa, and Crimea, leaving the rump Ukrainian state confined largely to Galicia and Volhynia. Yet Putin did not even act to achieve the barest minimum. Fear of Western response is irrelevant, given that Russia’s very existence is intolerable from the Western viewpoint. Face the truth: Putin is not a singularity or a deity. In terms of foreign policy, he is only a marginal upgrade from Yeltsin and Company. Unless Putin does a full U-turn, Russia’s problems will only worsen until the West finally hurls its nukes toward Moscow and St. Petersburg.
Daniel, methinks your warhorse comes from the same stable as “Putin lost significant ground in Syria because Israeli warplanes still strike Syria with impunity”. Yes, the F16s and F35s can send missiles but now only on a hit-and-run basis and from a safe distance — keeping well out of Syrian airspace. That’s hardly striking with impunity.
Likewise with your anticipation that “Russia’s problems will only worsen until the West finally hurls its nukes toward Moscow and St. Petersburg”; behold a pale horse cometh from the Rapture stable. You assume the West is willing to commit suicide if it can’t get its own way; but Samson was a lone figure, and there were only a handful of zealots at Masada. Most people in the West want to live, and they know what will happen to them three minutes after “the West hurls its nukes”.
Very nice!
But don’t think I’ve fallen in love? I’m an octogenarian?
In my time on this Planet I have never seen anyone who held Office for 20years with such a low key and with such an outstanding score card and not invaded anyone without due cause such as Georgia.
In fact I think Daniel should go back to square one and think again.
To my mind Putin is the most outstanding tactical Politicians I have watched and listened. The fact the People of Russia are not rushing to a coup but appear happy enough for him to carry on and I think for whatever time he may think at this point says it all.
I still don’t trust the US and the UK and I’m sure neither does Putin to lick their wounds and respect what happened.
“In terms of foreign policy, he is only a marginal upgrade from Yeltsin and Company.”
Where are larch’s expletives when you need them?
Reality on the ground, russia is respected worldwide by all but sher kan and tabaquis. And provides hope in the jungle for a better future.
Many, me included, cannot wait to see the hubris of the exceptionalists rewarded with an apple pie to the face, but then again, reality is not a comedy show.
Hipersonic and nuclear weapons will kill millions if not all, so im somehow glad cooler heads than you or I prevail.
On the contrary: most Russian citizens, not least those in the Donbas’, would rather side with my perspective on the Ukrainian matter. Their view is that Russia should have prevented Yanukovych from being overthrown in 2014 and, failing that, seized the vital “land-bridge” from the Donbas’ to Odessa and Transnistria, if not the eastern two-thirds of Ukraine, save Galicia and Volhynia, the base of Lvov. Russia’s failure to prevent the recent colour-revolutions in Armenia and Moldova were also rather egregious. Russia should have also intervened earlier and far more decisively in Syria, rather than reluctantly and at the incessant behest of Syria and Hezbollah, and given less weight to Israeli influence on the matter of AD systems such as the S-300PMU2. Most Russians support Putin’s general international policy, but only because it is better than the alternatives, yet still feel that it falls well short of the decisiveness and aggressiveness that is needed to contain the Western offensive.
Absolutely and spot on. Putin is an expert at closing the barn door long after most of the horses are gone. Putin apologists love to stand around the nearly empty barn praising Putin for not setting it on fire.
Their main argument is always that the only alternative to Putin’s indecisiveness (if that is what it is, and not controlled opposition; Yeltsin-lite) would have been a nuclear showdown. Well yeah, NOW that is probably true. Russia is so thoroughly demonized now, that even questioning the anti-russian narrative in ‘the west’ is increasingly impossible, both in the establishment and in everyday life. Now ANY stand Russia takes that confronts the US or any of its vassals would lead almost inevitably to Russia’s destruction. Russia has lost the struggle over narrative completely. This means that Russia will have little ground to stand on if there is any extended confrontation, whether it be military or economic. Putin’s speech was possibly a last chance to put Russia on some kind of different footing by articulating forcefully and clearly a vision in contrast to the Hegemonic one. Putin, however, is not in fundamental disagreement with the Hegemon’s ‘neoliberal’ (Orwellian) vision. He’d just like to tweak it a little. Mainly, he’d like for Russia to have a seat at the Big Table.
The situation with Iran is a pretty good example of this. Putin never effectively defended Iran against the Hegemon’s nuclear accusations, even though he knew they were wrong and were making a mockery of any hope for a just interational order. Instead he went along with those accusations and little by little helped back Iran into a corner. Iran STILL isn’t a member of the SCO!!!! This alone is hard to believe
Finally Russia and China seem to be making moves to solidify an alliance with Iran, but it’s too little too late. This is Putin’s speciality. Too little too late. Is it by design?
Putin apologists say he saved Syria!!!! Syria is a wreck. After what happened in Libya, no one can say Russia didn’t see it coming to Syria – the rigged popular uprising leading to a civil war supported heavily by the Hegemon and its allies. But Russia held back from decisively supporting Assad until Assad was almost defeated. Finally then Russia stepped in, but even so continued to hold back whenever it looked like Russia might be in danger of mussing the feathers of the Hegemon or its vassals. A good example is what happened after the SAA took back Deir Azzor. Remember? Predictably, the US and its local proxies, the Kurds, made a mad dash to grab all the oil fields in the East of Syria. It looked – for a minute – like Russia and the SAA would do their own mad dash to grab as many oilfields as they could and they should have long planned to do this. Instead Russia pulled back and all the oilfields were lost.
Please don’t give me the usual bs explanations, such as Russia not having enough forces in Syria to do what needed to be done (then they should have made sure to have enough), or that Russia was only there to kill terrorists (Syria took the fall for Russia, over the Hegemon’s planned pipeline, for example, and you all know it), etc..
Russia’s ability to support its key ally, Syria, was crucial to its global standing, as was its ability to justify this support on the basis of a meaningful alternative global vision. Russia failed, badly, miserably, on both fronts.
A confrontation over the oil fields in Syria, would almost certainly not have led to an open conflict between Russia and the US, much less a global apocalyptic war. The US was not as entrenched in Syria then, nor was its anti-Russia narrative as entrenched, generally. A little storm then would almost certainly have prevented a potential bigger storm now. Instead Russia stood down, the US grabbed the entire economic heartland of Syria and, as a result, Syria’s overall situation is now virtually hopeless. Turkey has turned the northern edge of the country into a jihadi homeland. The border with Lebanon is threatened by possible ‘regime change’ diminishing Hezbollah’s leverage in Lebanon. Israel patrols the south, with help from the US at the Tanf crossing and the area around it. The US ‘owns’ the entire eastern third of Syria which also happens to be the economic heartland. The population centers are under SAA control for now, but how long will that last under the brutal conditions imposed by the Hegemon, conditions largely assented to by Russia? Only now has Russia reportedly decided to escort Iranian relief ships to Syria!!!! I wonder if that support for Iran’s relief effort for Syria will prove to be any more meaningful than Russian air defense in Syria?
Putin seems to have helped raise life expectancy in Russia. For that he is to be tremendously praised. But beyond that, the best one can say about him is that he is a technocrat with no real vision, no deeper understanding. He approaches each situation, it seems, by hedging here and hedging there. I’m sure there is a bit of judo and a bit of chess in Putin’s way of thinking, but mainly he is a technocrat who is in way over his head when it comes to global leadership. The world needed some authentic leadership from Putin on Wednesday. What it got was a slab of nothing, spiced up a little bit for those folks at home who are rightly uncomfortable with Putin’s foreign policy ambivalences and prevarications.
bravo for this comment!

Even from a military point of view it was necessary for NATO to cut the links between Belarus and Russia.
Like in other matters neocons have multiply wrong moves. It’s over for now.
And there has been a shadow war in fact with concentration of troups and heavy weapons, contration of war ships in the Black sea … NATO has widely lost it. Threats of military actions against DLPR and Crimea are still there but this balance of forces will be the same till the next fall. There will also be exactly zero support from Germany and France.
Beyond this, the main battle is deployed on the economical field. Basically there is a war between neo liberalism and hybrid systems in China and Russia and even with the industrial capitalism which still prervails in Japan and Germany. To survive in Germany the industry is in desperate needs of Nord Stream 2 because of the big failure of its “energiewende”. Underground economical forces are driving Germany towards Russia and China.
Neo liberalism is a dead system. Which make the odds of war very high. And in fact there is a dangerous escalation in the Middle East. Biden/Harris will destroy the USA during their term. American universities are already in great troubles. And they were the actual sources of the US superiority in scientific and technoligical fields. The “green” business and the climat change scam will extend a Texas/California model into the USA.
As for the ukrainian situation the russians have for long understood that the best way to deal with was to let the system crumble.
Letting the system crumble has only allowed the West to strengthen its stranglehold on the Ukraine.
The USA, GB, France …are also crumbling. For Germany the only way to escape this doom is to pivot towards the east.
Anyway the war front line is still in the Middle East. Where a very dangerous turn is happening
What’s the point in strangling a dying chicken?
“What’s the point in strangling a dying chicken?”
The view of some opponents is to access the entrails quicker to interpret/rearrange them.
“Russia does not claim to have deterred the Ukrainians, instead Russia declared that the Russian bear roared loud enough to deter the united West. ”
The exercises were organised in advance in environment(s) where potential opponents frame interpretations by beliefs, projections and propaganda requirements due to limited facility in strategic analysis, strategic creation, strategic implementation, and strategic development.
An example of this limited facility being the interpretation/belief that:
“Russia declared that the Russian bear roared loud enough to deter the united West” and validity of assumptions/methodologies subsumed within.
“Russia simply demonstrated her ability to quickly concentrate a truly huge force (2 Armies and 2 Airborne Divisions) along her border.”
This is also an example of limited facility also due to an assay of continuing assumptions that the lessons learnt from the exercises pertain solely to “along her border” – a misrepresentation by omission.
A further example of limited facility is “all we are observing today is a short term reprieve, nothing more.”
thereby attempting through reenforcement of certainty/certainties to limit perception of other possible interpretations of “we” including but not limited to :
” this is part of an ongoing planned lateral process of transcendence of opponents”
since phenomena do not require to be perceived to exist, re-enforcing the reliances and resorts of the opponents including:
” At most, Russia will repeat what she did in the 08.08.08 war: defang the Nazi regime by obliterating the Ukrainian military, and then let the regime naturally collapse.”, which is another utility of blogs.
Long time reader here. My appraisal:
USA goal: stop NS2.
USA plan A: escalate an inter-slavic war which Russia must join officially, but can never win (quagmire). Effect: NS2 dies along with pesky Slavs, USA declared winner.
USA strength: has equipped the Ukie war machine to the level that it can provoke official Russian intervention.
USA fear: must avoid a war where Ukraine is defeated, because that destroys USA military credibility, which hurts the already teetering petro-dollar (I prefer “military-backed-dollar”).
USA jolly joker: Lukashenko assassination. Belarus conversion/chaos would tilt the strategic balance just enough to create a Ukrainian quagmire.
RUS jolly joker #1: prevented Lukashenko assassination.
RUS jolly joker #2: could amass more military might more quickly than anticipated in clear signal there will be no quagmires.
USA gives up plan A: clearly seen as they declare victory while retreating. “The sanctions are working, Russia has blinked!” They are going along with Russian de-escalation narrative given to them to save face and avoid conflict (Russian “withdrawal”, Navalny got his doctors). NS2 will be done by autumn, the element of surprise was blown, there is no more time left to revive plan A.
USA plan B: “Russian” nerve gas attack in Berlin U-Bahn or similar. Doesn’t come with bonus inter-slavic war, but still enough to kill NS2. Expected this summer. Even better, if Merkel starts rapproaching with Putin, he will personally “poison” her, she becomes a brain dead salad, some USA stooge takes her place. The more cartoonish the narrative the easier to sell it.
Any thoughts?
I’ll pick up the ball and run with it.
Mr. Potato Head gets assassinated by a person who has a Russian or Chinese last name (you know, two Lee Harvey Oswald types) The murder weapon is, of course, a long-range potato gun.
The assassin, amazingly, even after the prison system’s recent experience of Mr. Epstein’s unhappy “suicide”, gets “Jack Rubyed” before the assassin has any chance to testify in the assassin’s own defense. The surprised Jack Ruby The Second himself is killed One Second after he kills MPH’s assassin.
A neo-Warren “Schiff Commission” is, amazingly, set up the day after MPH’s assassin is Jack Rubyed; and, even more amazingly, the day after MPH’s assassin is Jack Rubyed, the Schiff Commission’s 100,000-page report is published. Luckly, the report has a one-sentence abstract which states without equivocation that Russia/China, without any doubt with vital support from Iran, Maduro and Assad, “did it”.
The “leaders” of the Five Eyes all agree with the Schiff Commission’s final report five seconds after it is released and all declare that “something must be done!”
Shortly before the Schiff Commission’s final report is released, President Harris steps in front of CNN’s cameras and tells the world that the US government, having had foreknowledge of the US government’s Schiff Commission’s final report, has attacked MPH’s murderers with thousands of small, low-radiation nuclear weapons which have destroyed thousands of the murderers’ cities and all of their military bases, siloed ICBMs and submaries—- completely eliminating any possibility that they would be able to counter-attack the United States Of America. But, just to make abosolutely sure, “mop-up ” operations are under way and planeloads of USDs have already been air-dropped onto the affected areas in order to help the local survivors survive their upcoming no doubt difficult lives.
But the real silver lining to the dark cloud of all-out, one-way nuclear war is that it’s victims, “over there, over there”, will be free to create their very own democracies headed by leaders that are being flown from the United States of America into the affected areas as “Harris” speaks.
Mission Finally Accomplished! God Bless the United States of America!, Harris shouts.
Beautifuly described possible timelines.
But what’s wrong with that picture? Analogies used are from different time when US was at their prime. Not so much today.
Those Americans wouldn’t come conviniently last at the Black Sea party with two warships. Nor flaked out in last minute, like somebody hinted them scale of Russian reaction.
It would be realy, realy embarasing to sneak out after, crossing Bosphorus wouldn’t it?
Such fumble Americans wouldn’t allow themselves in 50ies and 60ies.
Putin diffused the situation either brilliantly or somewhat surprisingly depending on how you look at things. It has been a great opportunity to carry out drills on a large scale for the military who can be very happy with the outcome. Many things happen behind closed doors which we are not privvy too but Putin seems happy so I think perhaps agreements have been made with Washington, for now. Of course one can no longer trust the US or the West generally so whatever has been agreed, accepted or understood is only for now or until the ground hardens in Ukraine. Time will tell but the central problem in Kiev still remains, rabid Nazis owned by jewish oligarchs. Let
We must hope NS2 is finished quickly, although I don’t doubt that the US is now fully focussed on German elections and supporting the Green party by fair means and foul, the one party which says it will cancel NS2. Maybe a ‘shock’ result is on the cards courtesy of the CIA!
A few years ago, Germany officially declared Russia to be an enemy nation:
https://theduran.com/germany-preparing-war-russia/
Isn’t it funny thet the two agends of Russia that have been accused of causing the blow-up of the Check weapons dump in 2014 (according to Check government accusations) are said to bear the same names as the two accused by Britain (but no not charged with) having poisoned father and daughter Skripal in Salisbury four years afterwards? In that case, the accusation of “travelling under false or assumed identity) holds no water in the siev of Atlanticist propaganda, but leaks faster than they can drink some liters of Plzen beer.
EU is Germany.
NATO is USA.
The EU and NATO goes hand in hand.
No EU expansion (Drang Nach Osten) without NATO backing, that is why they call it “euro-atlantic integration”.
Germany is not innocent at all:
https://theduran.com/germany-preparing-war-russia/
That was published in 2016
There is another reason Russia don’t won’t Donbass/Novorossiya, at least not yet. Because while the US (England) created an “anti” entity of the ukraine as they have done so many times before (Pakistan anti India, Northern Ireland anti Ireland etc) Russia did what Noone have done before: they broke the spell by creating an anti entity against their anti entity. So both entities are locked in a futile battle against eachother.
Thank you.
I think you are correct. Putin seems to have found the antidote to British poison.
I’m sure that it will have not escaped the notice of many here, and definitely V.V.P himself that June 22nd 2021 is the 80th anniversary of Operation Barbarossa. Of course Her Hitler tried it with several million men and thousands of tanks. Still lost.
‘Page 1, Rule 1 in the book of War. Don’t march on Moscow. It’s been tried. Twice. It doesn’t work’
Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery….
But now they want to march on Beijing too!
I would think that though Kipling was a great example to pull up as an example of the US and its lapdog vassals, Putin might have been even better served by Alfred Lord Tennyson, in his epic poem “Charge of the Light Brigade”, as an example of what happens when armies are faced with the full force of Russian resistance.
“I
Half a league, half a league,
Half a league onward,
All in the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.
“Forward, the Light Brigade!
Charge for the guns!” he said.
Into the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.
II
“Forward, the Light Brigade!”
Was there a man dismayed?
Not though the soldier knew
Someone had blundered.
Theirs not to make reply,
Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do and die.
Into the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.
III
Cannon to right of them,
Cannon to left of them,
Cannon in front of them
Volleyed and thundered;
Stormed at with shot and shell,
Boldly they rode and well,
Into the jaws of Death,
Into the mouth of hell
Rode the six hundred.
IV
Flashed all their sabres bare,
Flashed as they turned in air
Sabring the gunners there,
Charging an army, while
All the world wondered.
Plunged in the battery-smoke
Right through the line they broke;
Cossack and Russian
Reeled from the sabre stroke
Shattered and sundered.
Then they rode back, but not
Not the six hundred.
V
Cannon to right of them,
Cannon to left of them,
Cannon behind them
Volleyed and thundered;
Stormed at with shot and shell,
While horse and hero fell.
They that had fought so well
Came through the jaws of Death,
Back from the mouth of hell,
All that was left of them,
Left of six hundred.
VI
When can their glory fade?
O the wild charge they made!
All the world wondered.
Honour the charge they made!
Honour the Light Brigade,
Noble six hundred!”
Yes, “Not though the soldier knew someone had blundered.” – Someone will blunder indeed should they poke the bear once too often.
“what about the de-escalation in Donbass?”
Rhetorical questions are tools in framing as in the example quoted above.
This framing encourages the belief that escalation took place and de-escalation took place thereby limiting perception of what took place.
This framing also facilitates tools of emotional escalation/de-escalation, hence the rhetorical question “what about the de-escalation in Donbass ?” could refer to emotional escalation/de-escalation which took place, or were interpreted as having took place, in areas other than in Donbass.
This is an example of techniques described in “the Trawniki Papers” and elsewhere to facilitate efforts of “control”; tempo and emotion being ways of facilitating the acquiescence/complicity of “objects” in their own demise, thereby facilitating the productivity levels attained in Belzec, Sobibor, and Treblinka under the management of Mr. Wirth, Mr. Thomalla and Mr. Stangl.
These practices also informed, and continue to inform, “interrogation/perception management techniques” including “anticipation” of their usage, employed by the opponents from at least 1947 to date.
>what do you think?
No fan of Ukraine here but the more I think about it, the more I think that using the term “Nazi” to describe Ukraine, Ukrainians, or even the current regime in Kiev, is ridiculous: politically inaccurate, an abuse of language, and the exact same kind blanket group libel that Jews engage in.
“using the term “Nazi” to describe Ukraine, Ukrainians, or even the current regime in Kiev, is ridiculous: politically inaccurate, an abuse of language, and the exact same kind blanket group libel that Jews engage in.”
Labelling is always in some assay a tool to minimise perception, and hence always inaccurate facilitating opportunities for others..
Perhaps your immersion in binaries of no/yesness is a prime component in your myopia ?
Perhaps a wiser rendition of your observation would read:
“”using the term “Nazi” to describe Ukraine, Ukrainians, or even the current regime in Kiev, is ridiculous: politically inaccurate, an abuse of language and thought, and the exact same kind blanket group libel that Jews engage in, since labelling is always in some assay a tool to minimise perception which some mistakenly believe, the benefits solely accrue to the would be labellers and those labelled.”
Since labelling is always in some assay a tool to minimise perception, non-labellers have opportuninities to transcend labellers and those labelled simultaneously.
Well, they themselves use that term, use nazi flags and symbols, nazi remembrances and dates, nazi personalities and ideas.
So, no, it isn’t far fetched to call a nazi a “nazi”.
It’s not a libel, just an accurate description. Yes “banderovets” is even more, but less widely known, and as said above, the banderites themselves identify themselves as nazi heirs.
“Well, they themselves use that term”
To say that you are a crocodile does not make you one.
“It’s not a libel”
That is neither the purpose nor the criticism..
“It’s not a label”
It is a label, sometimes refered to as a brand, hence the paraphenalia.
A brand to frighten others through catalysing connotations.
A fear which was a component part in facilitating the integration of Crimea into the Russian Federation.
The purpose is their transcendence which experience suggests is better facilitated by fuller undertanding of them instead of mystification of them by assigning labels to them.
Among the experiences illuminating the above, were/are the various wars in “Ukraine” between 1943 and 1954 which the “Soviet Union” sought, and momentarily believed they had achieved, “victory” which they mistakenly conflated with transcendence, thereby precluding their purpose in part because “operational control” from Riga was over-ruled by “strategic control” from Moscow, which also subsequently informed the ongoing process of transcendence of the “Soviet Union” by the Russian Federation.
They’re just the pawns though, they’re not the people actually running the government and making the decisions. The people who organised the coup and are now running the regime are all Zionist Jews (Nuland,Yatsenyuk, Poroshenko, Kolomoisky, Zelensky, Groisman, Pinchuk etc). What’s the one thing they all have in common? They sure aren’t members of the “Aryan” race that’s for sure. It’s similar to how Israel has supported Al-Qaeda and ISIS in Syria, not because they have any love for these groups, but they see them as useful idiots to unleash against the Syrian Government. They’re fanatical and extremely violent, while at the same time being too stupid to realise they’re being manipulated into doing others bidding.
Basically Jewish organisations have made an agreement to support these groups so long as they direct all their efforts against people the Jews consider as their enemies (Syrians and Russians) while not directing any violence against Jews. Remeber when ISIS apologised for accidently firing mortar shells onto the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. When was the last time ISIS ever apologised for attacking any other countries territory. Seems kind of strange that these “Islamic extremists” spend most of their time killing their fellow Muslims while never doing anything to oppose Israel’s treatment of Muslims in Palestine.
Likewise it’s strange that these “Ukrainian nationalists” spend most of their time killing their fellow Ukrainians while doing nothing to oppose the Jewish takeover and looting of their country. When the Nazis got into government in Germany, one of the first things they did was ban Jews from holding any position in the Government. Since the “Nazi” coup in Ukraine in 2014, they have had two presidents and two prime ministers. All four have been Jewish despite the fact that Jews are less than 0.2% of Ukraine’s population. Coincidence? I even read an article by a Jewish university professor in America bragging about how Ukraine is now only the second country in the world (after Israel) to have both a Jewish president and a Jewish prime minister. Strange kind of Nazis…
I tend to agree that this is “on hold”. I think, however, that there was a lot more in play than just the obvious Ukraine squaring up to the Donbass republics. I think the following were all part of a coordinated plan to have Russia facing multiple threats on multiple fronts:
The Ukrainian mobilization was the principal escalation, with a lot of heavy armor and infantry coming to the contact line. My impression was that Ukraine and its handlers expected a modest Russian response, if any.
US ships moving into the Black Sea as a deterrent, so that when the fireworks started the US was there in support, possibly to make any potential Russian seaborn responses very dangerous, if not impossible.
Navalnyi’s hunger strike. Small in the scheme of things, but another part of the Russia bad narrative, all active at the same time. And if he died, well, even better.
NATO exercises in the Baltics, right on Belarus’ doorstep.
Coup d’état in Belarus on 9th May, NATO poised to intervene from its exercises on the so-called R2P or humanitarian grounds. Also as a major counter to any possible Russian military reaction.
Just my 2 cents, but I really don’t believe that these separate issues were just separate issues. I think they were coordinated, and I think the timeline, especially the 9th May coup d’état was the key to the whole thing kicking off, as all other actors would have been in position and primed.
”Since then, the Russians have shown over and over again that they do NOT want the Donbass.”
Maybe that’s what they say but that is not consistent of that what they do. Why then have they issued and continue to issue hundreds of thousands of Russian passports to inhabitants of this strategic area who must now be regarded as Russian citizens. Moreover, the peoples republics of Lugansk and Donetsk now use the rouble as their currency not the useless hrynia? This is a creeping and unstated annexation. What of it. If the Turks could do it in Northern Cyprus, and the Israelis on the Golan Heights why can’t do it in Russian speaking DonBass?
“why can’t do it….. ”
One of the differences between “analysts” and analysts is that “analysts” often ask relevant questions and facilitate irrelevant answers.
Why not try this question ?
“why did the Russian Federation not do it?”
to which there is a probability that you will facilitate and increase irrelevant answers.
Yes I know my comparison is not 1:1 exact, but Russia literally gave them the option to come live in Moscow, but much of LDNR do not want to give up their home at least until Nazikraine and Ukraine decide they want the separatist provinces back.
Do you think Berliners thought to get out when Hitler came to power?
“….gave them the option to come live in Moscow, but much of LDNR do not want to give up their home”
The options offered were not limited to living in Moscow or available only to residents of the LDNR.
The options offered were/are not conditional on the activities of opponents but formed part of wider strategies in development of the Russian Federation..
The trajectory of the development of the Russian Federation is towards greater co-operation, which requires the recognition and acceptance of the wishes of others; a significant component of the ongoing transcendence of the “Soviet Union” by the Russian Federation.
Growth of average wages in RF according to Trading Ecomnomics is 51 229 Rubles
https://tradingeconomics.com/russia/wages
Real wages growth is 2%
https://tradingeconomics.com/russia/wage-growth
Not bad result if we take all circumstances in consideration.
Congratulations.
Look, the Russians really do not want the Donbass. Why? If they annex it, what happens to Ukraine’s application to joibe NATO? What kind of insurgency would the Russians be responsible for dealing with. But the people sure give them passports. Why? The Ukrainian state has abandoned them and shells them into the bargain. It creates instability for the banderovites as well. Ukraine is stuck. If zelenski renounces the Ukrainian claim to the Donbass or the Crimea he gets killed by the nationalists. It’s all pretty straightforward. If it ain’t broken don’t fix it. I think that the idea of evacuating the Donbass or giving the citizens refuge including Russian citizenship is 100% correct. This isnt about enlarging Russia, it’s about allowing the Ukrainian state to implode providing their citizens with some support, even if only moral and not taking responsibility for this european (in the broadest sense) mess.
Putin and company think on long term. They do not want only LDNR, they want entire Ukraine and Russia will get it.
Just not now, Russia has to be much stronger economically to do that.
“This isn’t about enlarging Russia, it’s about allowing the Ukrainian state to implode providing their citizens with some support”
Resort to absolutes always restricts perception often facilitating the conflation of an answer/the answer.
In respect of “Ukraine” some of the opponents with “limited skin in the game” were aware of the possibilities you outline by at least November 2015 and some opportunities which they could use to their advantage “back home”.
Simultaneous some of the opponents with “more skin in the game (which increased over time ) chose to ignore the possibilities you outline and then seek to negate the possibilities you outline through increasing dosages and scope of “solutions”, whilst some other opponents never perceived the possibilities you outline through reliance on emotions and beliefs.
At sea seeing albatrosses is often appreciated, but not the wearing of albatrosses around your neck.
To achieve really good life standard and to eliminate the most of poverty, russian average wages should be about 100 000 Rubles.
Till 2030 they should achieve that objective.
This is the most important, wages, life standard, infrastructure, manufacturing, import substitution, national projects, to stop brain drain and to improve demography. Then Russia will become very attractive
And Ukraine, western provocations and all other similar things, it is all BS.
Russia should better protect Donbass and that is it. And to focus to economy. It is the crucially important.
“Back to sanity, or only a reprieve?”
If “back to sanity”, then why did Shoigu leave the heavy weapons in place?? LOL
It feels like a regrouping to me by the West. I feel that the planned Belarusian civil war was a linchpin of their plan for violence on the Russian border. When that failed, the whole effort appeared to crumble. Even Navalny has stopped his hunger strike!
But there is no going back to “sanity” for the Deep State that controls the countries of the West. Russia is its mortal enemy because it is a powerful, independent, sovereign nation. (Like China.) Russia must be turned into an exploitable, failed state. Consequently, Putin must be removed and replaced with a Yeltsin-like puppet. By any means possible — short of nuclear war. The Deep State is not made of stupid people. Greedy sociopaths, yes, stupid, no.
I think the Deep State’s plan is still to clamp down an economic Iron Curtain between Russia and Europe in an attempt to destabilize Russia. But the economic loss would also be painful to Europe. This is why Russia must be forced into some action that is so heinous that the Europeans would accept their economic losses and reject Russia. (Either that or create a deadly false flag that can be plausibly blamed on Putin.)
Wasn’t that the gambit the Deep State used to get the US into WWII? The month prior to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, the US population was overwhelmingly against joining a “European war.” The membership of the America First Committee was growing and Charles Lindbergh had made a powerful speech calling out the real warmongers. FDR worked hard, on behalf of the Deep State, to force the Japanese into an untenable position. It worked. Americans accepted war and privation. The Deep State hopes that it works again, in this case to force Europeans to accept privation as a necessity toward the ultimate goal of destroying Russia. (Of course, Americans could care less. There is not that much commerce with Russia.)
I’m afraid we are just in a lull. The Deep State will try again and again and again…
DONETSK, April 24. /TASS/. Ukraine’s Armed Forces have shelled the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) nine times in the past 24 hours, firing over 90 shells, the DPR mission to the Joint Center on Ceasefire Control and Coordination (JCCC) said on Saturday.
“Over the past 24 hours, a total of nine violations of the indefinite ceasefire by the Ukrainian Armed Forces was recorded,” the Donetsk news agency said citing the mission’s statement.
Overall, the Ukrainian forces fired 94 shells.
On Friday, the DPR mission to the JCCC reported that in the previous 24 hours, Kiev’s army had broken the ceasefire 12 times, firing 80 shells into the DPR.
It looks like Kiev wants to commit national suicide. Ishchenko’s column today virtually predicts Russia will take apart the Ukraine state and end its existence. https://ukraina.ru/opinion/20210424/1031228888.html
There is no other solution because this bombardment is authorized by the Biden administration, and backed by NATO, the EU, the co-signees of the Minsk 2 Agreement France and Germany and ignored by all human rights organizations.
It will be another 08-08-08 except Kiev’s government will perish.
Rotislav Ischenko wrote an even more important analysis just before that. He connected three dots, including one that was hidden: Belarus, Ukraine … and Georgia. The Empire was planning to activate all three fronts at the same time – maybe on the same day, but those plans have been slightly undone by the utter failure of the color revolution and the arrest of the Belarus coup plotters. Ischenko gets to the heart of the matter, and I haven’t seen this news anywhere else on the web.
https://ukraina.ru/opinion/20210419/1031166247.html Google translator is your friend here.
I believe with the S300, and definitely with the S400 and then Putin’s March 2018 speech revealing his hyper-sonic stuff, the risk of any serious confrontation between Russia and the US has been effectively cancelled. Also there’s no way the present regime in the US will ever close the technological gap. It is so corrupt and bloated that it cannot muster the resources and focus for any definable task. While China commits 400 billions to Iran, when was the last billion $ international commitment of the US? Their latest “aid” to Ukraine amounted to a measly 100 million or so if I’m not mistaken, yet they print trillions! Truth is every last penny is required only to prevent its own implosion. What we’ve been witnessing since is nothing more than a slow paced scorched earth strategic global withdrawal. It doesn’t matter whether it is official (but hidden) policy or not, it is de facto happening.
In this context the Ukraine has become meaningless. The only reason the whole mess started was to snap Crimea, and that prospect is definitively lost. So the real question should be why do they still want Ukraine to start a war that would be at most a formality to the Russians? I don’t buy the “paint the Russian as aggressor” motive. North Stream 2 is a no-brainer for Germany and no amount of “Russian aggression” can change that. Besides, the public in the West is so self consumed by the Covid hallucination, no one would notice a war in Ukraine. The Saker mentioned Poroshenko telling Putin “take the Donbass if you want it!” Could it be that Biden is now telling Putin “take the Ukraine if you want it!”? I’m quite sure the Germans and most of the EU would appreciate Zelensky force feeding his country on Putin so their collective asses are spared the effort of cleaning up the Ukronazi infestation they created.
Remember Bush Sr.’s ambassador told Saddam to take Kuwait.
You never do what the US says it’s okay to do. You do what you do that is in your own national interest.
Is taking Ukraine in Russia’s interest? Of course not. Russia wants Ukraine in pieces, just as the West wants Russia in pieces.
Rule 1: Never trust a single word uttered by the US. Their word and signature are worthless.
