A very brave and lucky young lady to have escaped the ‘justice system’.
Maria’s articulate message will echo in the ears and minds of many who might once have been tempted by the American Dream. The illusion of USA being ‘land of the free, home of the brave’ is revealed to be a dangerous farce.
Remember the ordeal she suffered included strip searches each time she left solitary confinement to meet with her lawyer. One report I read was she was stripped every day in the early weeks of her imprisonment, not just the times she met her lawyer.
This travesty of justice was a disgusting use of the legal system to humiliate the Russian diplomat corps, the Kremlin and the People of the Russian Federation, as well as to ‘break’ Maria Butina.
Well, she didn’t break. She had to make a plea deal. That was the smart thing to do.
I hope some attorneys take her suit and fight for compensation for the injustice she suffered.
Russophobia is a deep mental sickness in the US government and sectors of this society.
In USA, the conviction rate is 99+%. The judges go along with any nonsense that the prosecution presents. Almost all these plea-deals are really a way of forcing the innocent to admit something minor – which they did not do – in order not to be locked up for many years. It is a total scam. Anyone who goes willingly to trial needs his/her head examined.

This is an excellent interview. The interviewer did a great job with his grim sarcasm and humourous moments.
Maria comes across as very earnest, smart and and repentant : “I was like a moth to a flame”(..for the American dream)- the past tense of her feelings about the US are unmistakeable..
I hope her ordeal with the US justice system gains a lot of traction and serves as a cautionary tale for other foreigners contemplating the “American Dream”.
The only part of her story which I found strange is: how she financed her education, who supported her in the US? She claims she was financed by her American “friends”… Perhaps she should state what exactly her relationship was with them and why it warranted such generosity… I read somewhere she became romantically involved with an American. She’s probably fed up with having her private life made public, but this part perhaps deserves more explanation.
She is very lucky to be back safely in Russia.
Btw, has anyone from Amnesty, Human Rights Watch, or the UN said anything about this case? I couldn’t find anything…please post any links if there is something.

Having watched this tragi-comedy from the get go, I’m actually surprised she was let go. She was lucky, very lucky, and with time her side of the story will come out.
I will, however, give this young lady a piece of advice, although after her experience I doubt what I will say will have any affect on her, she already knows, but if it prevents but one starry eyed young Russian from heading for the land of milk and honey it’s worth the effort.
Tak: USA, aka США, is not a land of dreams and opportunity any more, those times are gone now, the apex of ‘American Culture’ was the 1950’s, the final nail in the coffin was pounded in place somewhere around 2005 or so but the demise started in the early ’60’s, possibly earlier when Ike sent the first ‘advisers’ to Vietnam. Yup, it was Ike, he of ‘beware of the MIC’ verbiage, he who forgot his sworn oath to USA and UCMJ and did some rather nasty things back in ’45/46.
My dear young lady, you come from a vibrant and growing culture and economy. I fail to see what you could have seen in США that enticed you to in essence emigrate there, to a culture that has devolved to a churning nihilistic mass of opiod addicted ‘me too’ politically correct ‘social media’ hypnotized morons who have virtually no clue as to what The World is and means. Most, well I shouldn’t say most, I should say very many, Americans have either forgotten or never learned what USA was a scant five decades ago. Fortunately, there is a substantial number of Americans who do remember and who do want, wish, to return to what that culture was, but reality is this will never happen without a catastrophic social, and possibly armed, upheaval. Your mistake was you got involved with an organization, NRA, that drives the current Powers That Be, PTB, absolutely nuts. You see, my young lady, what keeps, even today with presidential ‘candidates’ openly stating they will come for the weapons legally owned by law abiding citizens, США ‘free’ is the fact that the citizenry is well armed. As such, the current PTB are driven, excuse the phrase, batshit crazy because they know they can’t finish turning США in to a police state because many of the citizenry, including many members of local law enforcement and the vast majority of US military, are armed and will not put up with such truck.
My dear young lady, you have learned a very deep lesson about the world outside Mat Rossiya. Stay were you are, be Russian, enjoy your, our, culture and society. The grass is never greener on the other side of the road, often the grass is poisoned and will destroy you. Stay home. Learn from your experience but don’t dwell on it, move on. You are young and alive and Russian. The vast majority of The World would love to be in your shoes today, Citizen of Russia, young, educated and with the rest of your life ahead of you. I dont understand how she can be so kind to the americans. They TORTURED her, intentionally spread lies about her, tried to totally destroy her, and she still respect america? america is filth. Ive been there. The americans themselves (the citizens) are filth. The government is filth. Nothing is redeemable about that miserable place.
I was never imprisoned during my time in america thank god, but I was harassed by the federal bureau of intelligence (they even called my mom and spoke so badly to her that she started crying on the phone with the disgusting fbi agent) and I hate them. I hate them so much. I think they are complete filth.
I remember every single political conversation I had with an american and it basically involved me desperately trying to convince them that their government was evil, but then they would come up with nonstop excuses for their government. I hate them, and will always hate them, not just their government, but every single american (not one excluded). They want to destroy the world. They would never take effective action to stop the crimes their government commits in their name because they love it. They love seeing their missiles blow up people all around the world. They love it when some Pakistani kid comes to their congress and says “I am afraid of the sky.”
Just watching this bring chills in my spine and makes me nauseous remembering that miserable hell of a country. Every time someone calls it the american society I think, “what society? a society is a place where human beings work with each other and build something better, there are no human beings in that miserable hell. Just demons and torturers and slaves.”
And if you think Im a bad guy for hating them, think about this:
In Syria, in Russia, in Iran, in China, people treat the “opposition” with some amount of respect, as long as they are not terrorists bombing their neighborhoods. In america, you think any sort of revolutionary movement could ever get off the ground?
I was there, and I saw this with my own two eyes. The americans were actively physically violent towards me for suggesting that violent revolution is the only way they could get the political changes they want. And I was extremely clear about what violent revolution was: Not chopping heads in the streets, but using self defense (and yeah, weapons) to protect yourself and your community from the american police and fascists. I was outcasted and physically attacked by people that called themselves communists, anarchists, revolutionaries, etc.
Think about that for a moment. People that go around saying they want revolution outcasted and physically attacked me for wanting what they want. It took me a few years to eventually figure this out, but americans and those so called revolutionaries do not want their government to change. They want their government to keep looting the planet because they like it. If a movement ever started to stop the racism and the imperialism, those “revolutionaries” would very quickly turn into republicans and democrats.
I just cant understand how someone can respect their torturer. If I had been given a stage to talk about what happened to me, I would be bad mouthing that miserable hell every day I could.
Good to know there is someone else who hates me, an American citizen, because I’m an American citizen. Take a number and go to the back of the line, I’ll send a messenger to inform you when you make it up to #1000 from the head of the line. Might be a while, though…..

Speedy release? LOL. She spend 18 months for a minor bureaucracy paperwork charge – something that should of merited a small fine, at most, like a traffic ticket.
Do you think the israeloamerican capitalists programmed her to assassinate Putin? Something like how fanny kaplan was “coaxed” by capitalist stooges to try and assassinate Lenin?
If so, I wouldn’t worry too much about her topping Putin, he has excellent security, fully versed in the jewish mafia’s assassination tricks. Afterall, he made it through their heyday during the yeltsin regime, and no doubt the attempts on him since have been ubiquitous, given the zionazi-gay mo (IE: the attempts against Castro, and lately, Maduro).

I have lost all respect for Patrick Byrne.
Ten years ago, I used to follow his blog, as he exposed some of the criminals of high finance. Apparently they didn’t like him, and did not want him in their club. He was doing some innovative things with Overstock.com, and later with Bitcoin. Now, I can’t even recall who was harassing him, but they were never prosecuted. They were ‘bailed out’ by Obama.
But more recently, he spoke of a romantic involvement with Miss Butina, and of reporting all their activities to the FBI, like the craven snitch he is.
That is one of the curious things about this case: Marina Butina was basically romantically entrapped by the CEO of Overstock.com, Patrick Byrne, who turns out to be working for the FBI no less!
In fact, Byrne explicitly states that the FBI *asked* him at one point to rekindle a romantic relationship with Butina–which the FBI of course denies asking him to do.
Hmmmm….
It does makes you wonder how many US corporate overlords are actually American government assets, stooges, or snitches.
