      Freddy,

      Russia has four tall ships.

The frigate Shtandart (Russian: Штандартъ), modern replica of the first ship of Russia’s Baltic fleet. It’s owner doesn’t live in St.P.

Mir (Russian: Мир, meaning Peace) is a three-masted, full rigged training ship and Kruzenshtern or Krusenstern (Russian: Барк Крузенштерн) is a four-masted barque. These two tall ships are too big for the place of performance and the bridge.

The schooner “Leningrad” was performing previous years. Maybe it wasn’t available this year.

        “Mir (Russian: Мир, meaning Peace)”

It also translates into English as:

Kingdom, pax, quiet, quietude, system, universe, world.

Harmony, in balance, also come to mind. It is a multi meaning word, but the general gist is a sort of balance and “oneness”. At peace with the world. A concept term.

I’m not sure if English has an equivalent. The word seems to reflect a more Asian, pre-Christian european cultural state where people were in accord with their environment, rather than trying to dominate it. A cultural state of mind where people saw what was outside their skin was not alien and to be controlled, but another aspect of themselves, or themselves as part of.

Ok. They have for some reason used this swedish ship for nine years now.http://www.briggentrekronor.se/nyheter/scarlet-sails-2018-i-st-petersburg/

    Awesome.
We were there a few years ago and witnessed the school students parade along Nevsky Prospect.

Their parade was huge and well behaved (no drunk yobs in sight).

Their singing was thrilling ( none of this stupid rap crap in earshot).

The street was left immaculate (polite green women picked up any bit of litter – which was left by the observers, not the students).

The traffic was slowed (no angry road rage or wild horn tooting).

The white nights shone brilliantly. The red sails lit up the sky.

And of course it was all VVP’s fault. Awesome.

what’s so special about this high school ? I know nothing about this – except maybe the graduation date coincides with a WW2 date ? And its Leningrad – St Petersburg –

This is phenomenal; why is is so little known? It makes anything in the US pale by comparison.

    Awesome show, Scott!
You love your country and your people – a true patriot.
I want to know why the first singer sang about Leningrad, when this city was created by Peter the Great and Lenin brought only death and misery to the place. love, nobody

This is unbelievable. Incredible. Leaves me speechless!
Like the incredibly choreographed military review parades in Red Square (with airborne acrobatics perfectly choreographed to the rest of the show).

How in h— does one “rehearse” this?
Getting all the fireworks in sync with the music?????

All NATO generals ought to be obliged to watch this production!
They will be shaking in their booties!

I believe they must have some sort of computer simulation, to decide the order and patterns; later, they hook all the firework launchers in a computer to do the actual firing.

I’m reminded, I’m an Ozzie, a nephew of a WW11, British Sail-maker, (Chief-PO) “HMAS Victorious”, Samuel Theodore, born Quebec & raise in England.. (Father, gassed in France WW1… Of cutting sail in his “Sail-Loft”, years later on ‘Plymouth Hoe’..! The fabulous ‘Red’, hemp-sail-cloth spinning across the floor to my machine-pit..! Kits for Masted-mains & Thames barges..! Silly I know..! But… “Red sails in the sun set”.. Cochineal & hemp.. A beautiful, fine cloth…! As a full, TPI, as mains & light, as a blowing, ‘Kite’..! After oil., (pun) Sail will be again..!
Peace comrades..! Pax..! Fair airs, a safer docks..! XXXX
