Small war, ordinary conscripts, led by a few officers following the Kremlin’s orders, Save at All Costs.

Twenty-something guys who became heroes. They fought to rescue civilians, surrounded peace-keeping troops and finally, fought to save themselves.

They fought, were wounded, some fought to the death, some survived the intense shelling and firefights.

One small group challenged by their General: go scout for me, and die a hero, but I need information.
    They went.

This little film shows why Russia is a warrior nation, its soldiers fight to win or die. And why, if the Fatherland is attacked, they fight to the death to protect their country.

Take the 45 minutes and see the inside story, well done, with plenty of real action, and amazingly ordinary guys who fought heroically and triumphed. Inspiring leadership, and bravery by the Russian young men.

This vid is mostly about the initial Russian attack to save the Russia peace keepers in the capitol, Tskhinvali. The Gruzyan attack started shortly after 00:00, 08 August 2008 with a sustained and hours long Grad missile attack on Tskhinvali which killed in excess of 1200 civilians and destroyed most of the infrastructure in the city including the only hospital. Wounded were treated for several days in the basement of hospital including major operations conducted with candle light.

The initial Russian advance toward Tskhinvali was a hurried force whose task was to relieve the hard fighting and surrounded Russian Peace Keeping Force in Tskhinvali. Even though heavily outnumbered by the Gruzyan Army, the relief force fought it’s way in to the capitol and successfully relieved the Russian forces in the capitol, in the process of which they put the Gruzyan army to flight out of the capitol. During the several days of the war, numerous American ‘advisers’ were captured. They were returned after the war, sans everything but the uniforms on their backs.

The Russian Black Sea Flot had left Sevastopol at dawn on 08 August, roaring out of harbor and speed limits be damned. I’ll give the Gruzyan Navy and their American advisers this, they did sail out to meet the Russian fleet, but promptly got spanked. Two Gruzyan ships were sunk and two damaged heavily but the damaged ships and the others were allowed to return to their base, only to be sunk the next day. The losses to the Russian fleet were one scratch in the paint on the missile ship Mirage.

For weeks after the war, a few American HUMMVEES were floating around Sevastopol, war trophies, but it wasn’t long before the Russian Army decided they were too large and overly complicated for use. Don’t know what happened to them, but when a month after the war VVP was asked by USA for the vehicles, weapons and equipment captured during the war, his reply was ‘Russia is not in the habit of returning war trophies’.

To give you an idea of VCO and my impeccable timing. We married twice, once in 2006 at Church of Foros on the south coast, second time was ZAGS when Embassy in Kiev got their knickers in a knot about us not asking ‘permission’ to marry. How they found out we have no idea, but we planned a pretty large wedding for the Zags deal complete with promenade around City Center, flowers at the Eternal Flame and dinner at a restaurant high on a mountain overlooking Church of Foros. For 09 August 2008. We watched our security detail and several husbands of guests sail out of harbor on 08 August. Wedding went off without a hitch as security was hurriedly arranged and relatives filled in for the missing husbands.

When the Flot returned to Sevastopol a few days later, 50,000 citizens welcomed them home, cheering them in lining harbor shores and quays.
