Iran’s former President Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani has lost his position as head of the Assembly of Experts, which selects the supreme leader and supervises his activities. Ayatollah Mohammad Reza Mahdavi Kani was selected to replace him.

I am sure Haleh Esfandiari (the Woodrow Wilson ‘captive) must be very disappointed.
I believe Rafsanjani to be corrupted and because of it, he is also an extremely wealthy man. Therefore, I think the Iranian religious leaders needed to boot him out if they are truly serious about taking the steps necessary in ending corruption in Iran. It sends a much needed message to the people that Islam does not condone corruption.
