Max Blumenthal and geopolitical analyst Pepe Escobar discuss the violent coup attempt in Kazakhstan, and its crucial importance as an ally of Russia and the center of China’s Belt and Road Initiative. Pepe addresses US and Turkish meddling, and why this massive and misunderstood country is suddenly at the heart of the new cold war. They also talk about the failure of the US-Russia talks in Geneva and if war could be on the horizon.

i just refreshed the page and it appeared when it happened withe the Russian press conference vid.
I dont know about war, and its behind a paywall, but I can see where its going.
Jan 14 (Reuters) – Hackers who defaced and interrupted access to numerous Ukrainian government websites on Friday could be setting the stage for more serious cyberattacks that would disrupt the lives of ordinary Ukrainians, experts said.
Didn’t take long for the usual suspects to blame the Russian government for the incident. As I mentioned in the Lavrov presser thread, any hacker on the planet could have done it, including the Ukrainians themselves.
In fact, the probability is that it wasn’t Russian state hackers, as they could have done far more damage than a few Web site defacements.
Any old hacker w/plenty of time on their hands, the only ones I know of like that are involved w/the gvt.
Excellent discussion, summarizes much of what is occurring in Central Asia and Ukraine. It’s long but well worth listening, scary in a way, but necessary.
Perfect description! I feel like I learned a lot.
58:24 – Nazis are always welcome in the U.S. – ever since WW II and Operation Paperclip.
You know, unless you’re the “Nazis” opposed to the “international clique” and its “colony of slaves… [by] financial blackmail” policies. Remember, Jim: Millions of Nationalist Socialists, including many in Eisenhower’s camps after WW II, learned they are not “welcome in the U.S.” the hard way…
Ukraine’s Maidanites, in spite of their rhetoric, paraphernalia, and parades, allowed Nuland, Soros, Kolomoisky, the International Monetary Fund, Monsanto, and similar debt slave entities to drive the country into the ground, so those “neo-Nazis” are kosher with the clique.
Video link is dead. Never rely on one video platform.
An hour 50min Video is way over the top for me so I didn’t watch as I suspect others didn’t either. A well written article is No1 ! However reading the replies gives some context.
That’s the problem with people, in a nutshell , their Grasshopper Minds, far too easily distracted. Oh look, a Flying Squirrel, gnawing on its nuts.
Could listen to Pepe all day, that’s a fact. Real News, how refreshing from the mainstream warmongering drivel from folks sitting in Ivy towers, around 5000 miles away from the realities on ground. For example, The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (LOL) in the (dis)United Kingdom.
Furthermore, Pepe should be on every School/College curriculum over a variety of subjects. If he lectured at Yale/Harvard/Ivy Leagues or OxBridge, those future cherrypicked Leaders (politicians, lawyers, bankers, Spies ) might not have such a jaundiced, insulated view of the world, churning out Blinken types.
“An hour 50min Video is way over the top”
Big mistake. I am on 1h15m and cooling head from information overdose. Probably the best Pepe experience ever. Going back as soon coffee is prepared.
pepe interacting is the best, yes, a transcript is great to read, bt pepe’s humour & expressive ever changing expressions say a lot missed on the page. whenever i get to watch pepe with michael hudson or the moderate rebels or some other interviewer i will take it in a heartbeat. it was a great way to spend a friday night. & pepe b/c he’s travelled the world & knows so many people is a joy to listen to—you missed a terrific overview of all we’ve been watching unfold—& for me i could’ve easily poured another scotch & loved watching ben & pepe talk about brazil & what pepe thinks will unfold. O well another later date.
Infelizmente eu não entendo inglês por isso adoro os textos escritos/transcritos . Gosto muito do Pepe e gostaria de puder ler.
Machine translation:
Unfortunately I don’t understand English so I love the written/transcribed texts . I like Pepe very much and I wish I could read.
What a resource Pepe is!
Facts, details, nuances and those hearty laughs make the time invested well spent.
He keeps teaching us so much.
Unparalleled expertise.
Thoroughly enjoyable, not to mention highly informative, and those hearty laughs ringing like a musical refrain throughout, reveal him for the beautiful and genuine soul he is. What a resource!
Pepe is real jewel. He’s the font of incredible information, that most Westerners are not privy to. His wonderful personality is truly infectious.
I’ve had this video checked in different countries.
Don’t know which buttons you guys are pressing, but it is not behind a paywall and it works really well. (Put your specs on and your headset :-)
So, listening to Pepe is current affairs and history as clear as what it can be. It is very real, a joy to listen to, and an education.
I am Pepe’s biggest fan…..but he is wrong (40.10) in saying that Stoltenberg “gave the game away yesterday for the first time” by referring the the NATO decision to give Ukraine membership. Stoltenberg has has often said this before.
“Jens Stoltenberg [NATO Secretary General]: My view on the question of Ukrainian membership is NATO . . . is the same as the NATO view, and that is that we made that we made decision in Bucharest at a NATO summit back in 2008. And I remember very well, because I was there as the Norwegian Prime Minister, participating in that NATO summit in Bucharest in 2008. And there we decided that Ukraine will become a member of NATO. And this decision still stands” 30 Oct. 2019

@Guy Thornton
I’m also a great Pepe fan. If I recall correctly, Zbig’s GRAND CHESSBOARD (1997)
suggested/predicted Ukraine should/would be ready for NATO membership by 2015. Hence, it’s not at all surprising that Stoltenberg et al would be discussing it in 2008ff.
For me (following Hans Morgenthau), geopolitics is not about one nation trying to crush all possible competitors to become world hegemon, but rather envisions a multi-polar world where the great powers respect each other’s needs/limits and try to understand their various perspectives.
Point 23 of the 2008 Bucharest Summer Declaration: “NATO welcomes Ukraine’s and Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations for membership in NATO. We agreed today that these countries will become members of NATO.” I think the Russian negotiators asked for the whole Declaration to be rejected.
But, “gave the game away for the first time” may refer to where things stand now (for sure, I think), especially since it wasn’t argued that it was something decided already in 2008, but that every nation “has the right to choose its own path.” Stoltenberg indeed made clear to the press, after the meeting, that he was still expecting Ukraine to join (it was even funny to watch, I mean, to still have the 2008 outlook he showed now was funny).
From Sergei Lavrov: http://thesaker.is/russian-fm-lavrov-holds-annual-press-conference-in-moscow/
So, Stoltenberg admitted that they decided to join Ukraine in NATO in 2008! NATO decided instead of Ukraine. Maidan happened 2013/2014! So much for democracy. This recognition and the events that followed after 2008 until today in Ukraine is open hostility towards the Russian Federation and the Russians. The time will probably soon come when international airspace and the sea around the Russian Federation will be disastrous for NATO and American aircraft and ships. If Russia does not receive the required guarantees.
And Sanjin, you know what else happened in 2008? The Russo-Georgian War. The W. Bush admin installed Saakashvili as president of Georgia, started the war, and tried to blame Russia for everything. The Obama, Trump, and Biden admins continuing those anti-Russia policies and provocations in Ukraine (and somehow still involving Saakashvili…) is just how the world elites operate. But this strategy historically works for them.
A time “when international airspace and the sea around the Russian Federation will be disastrous for NATO and American aircraft and ships” is exactly what the elites wanted from the start. Then they can get their Project for a New American Century “new Pearl Harbor,” pretend the decades of provocations never happened, rally the vassals around bigger wars, and build up their military industrial complexes. If things get to that point (and given the nature of the information war, that is not guaranteed), what could stop such a build up?
Always a pleasure to see a Pepe video. This guy knows everyone everywhere and is on top of everything going on everywhere (except Latin America as he admits – but he still knows more than me about that, too.)

As soon as Putin said “foreign forces” were involved and that Maidan (Euromaidan) methods were employed, any foreign power possibly being alluded to, needed to speak out immediately in private or in public, logically speaking. For to remain silent brings the real possibility that the man – even any man – then focuses on the “hybrid war” “terrorist” of this case as the one he must respond to and as the real opponent, and that this becomes an open-ended thing. The fact that there would have been a reaction if he had been even more specific is no excuse. The perception need not take an exact shape, i.e., who is it exactly or who knows and who doesn’t, for this equivalence to become reality (or confirmed reality) in the mind – then or later. When you are talking about the man himself being either the most or one of the two most powerful men in the world, doesn’t it become more obvious that the alluded one needs to address the charge? Of course. Hopefully it was done in private.
If the Kazakh attempted coup d’etat had gone the way of the West then we’d be hearing/watching live coverage minute by minute of developments on CNN.
RT/Others should be covering it now –
1) How many foreigners, nationalities/countries involved.
2) Local coup leaders interrogations, live from cell
3) The high ranking Police Chief who took his own life involvement, suicide note/confession
4) A breakdown of the NGO’s – Financing
5) Ex President involvement
6) Chevron
7) Logistics
8) US Biological Lab (Is it closed for business )
9) MI6-Mossad-CIA
. . . . and more, the whole 9 yards, like a Whodunnit – The Final Name & Shame. The US-UK-Israel-Turkey-??????
I think the CSTO missed a beat/trick here, probably preferring a complete investigation before naming the Usual Suspects.
I mean, make them Squirm in their pants. Maybe a Hollywood Film with George Clooney & The White Helmets leading the Mercs/Jihadis over the Kyrgyzstan border into Almaty. The airport siege – The Fallout.
49:32 Hypersonic bombers ??
C’mon….he obviously means bombers with hypersonic missiles such as the Khinzal.
Great work Pepe! I’ve been following you since the old Pipelanistan days. You give this old guy hope!
an idiot 4 star admiral USA days how USA will train EU military to be sabateurs etc in Ukraine if Russia invades …plus other methods…promising to be much more effective than when they used mujahadeen against Russia in Afghanistan

Pepe indirectly makes a very important point. The protests which the coup piggybacked were driven by the fuel increases .. needed by ubiquitous cars and trucks used by most Kazakhs. Kazakhs are among the most mobile populations on Earth with a high density of auto ownership; it is in genetic makeup of traditional horse nomad people. What occurred was intolerable and suffocating to them.
There is a similar wave of stripping private auto ownership from mankind, at least from the middle and lower classes. The German auto industry is currently on its death bed, awaiting the ordered euthanasia dose. Another country very wealthy in oil and gas is Algeria which also has a bizarre near stand-still in car use.

In both Zones the screws are being tightened. The plan for Dystopia Rising and the digital-drone smart grid is mass transportation, not private transportation. Part of it is the totalitarian intent to severely limit mobility and harden borders for easier control.
Even Zone B is being coerced down this track via political, economic, oligarchic, supply, attack on producer nations and other mechanisms of direct and indirect pressure. As it is easy to destroy, and the usual suspects have particular expertise here, and also control the major auto industry countries of Gernany/France, Japan, and S. Korea, expect progress in this direction.
Consider a mule or horse like the Amish and keep it well-fed!
I watched it. The best part was the discussion about future relations between Pepe and Asiatimes. They have been leaning hardcore USA lately and some the new contributors, are more fruity than the older ones. Some major BS is allowed to float over on that site now. I understand they are trying to ´balance´ it out but, lately something else has appeared. I don´t like it. It is not a complete surprize to me Pepe is having problems over there.
Regards,
John
