I don’t know
A phrase seldom heard in the ‘punditsphere’ but a hallmark of the real analyst. And Andrei Martyanov and our gracious host the Saker are two people who unhesitatingly use the phrase in their videos or texts.
I’ve read Sonar21’s essay with the GAO report but thanks to AM for reinforcing Larry Johnson’s take on the matter.
As to the question of freezing the Ukraine SMO, I’m with AM. It is the West that is desperate for a freeze (pun unintended.) Russia is not going to freeze the conflict just yet for the simple reason that the SMO’s objectives have not yet been met. That and the small matter of liberating Russian Kherson City from Ukro/Nato occupation.
America wants to freeze the war, give themselves time to hold an international military bric-a-brac jumble-sale, cash for old weapons, maybe Raytheon can churn out a few batches of missiles, or maybe even do a sweep over Iraq for unexploded bombs they dropped previously, over the last 2 decades.
What were these cretins thinking?
The motto of the Boy Scouts is ‘Be Prepared’. Founded by Baden-Powell that old colonial Nazi Imperialist who served Empire when participating in genocides in India, Natal Zululand, Matabeleland and Rhodesia. 8 years in the planning and they only remembered to dig holes, trenches, possibly in anticipation they’d be useful substitute graves; I suppose we can begrudgingly give credit to their cynical foresight here.
Like a desperate drug user looking for a fix, there’s a whole US military department ringing around all their tapped-out vassals, black-ops contacts, gunrunners, warlords, militias, pleading for anything that will blow.
Yes, Russia should freeze the war and allow NATO ‘stan a sporting chance to pick themselves up, dust themselves down and start all over again.
PS It’s fairly obvious that America believed Russia would be crippled, on its knees, with their dastardly financial sanctions scheme, within 6 months
First a thanks to Mr. Martyanov in getting me to reread up on Russian history and to watch some Russian War movies. Both of these help in getting a better understanding of the Russian military culture”. As far as the Ukranian conflict goes, it seems, that unless one knows exactly what the Russian objectives are, it is difficult to comment too much on the long term meaning of any one event.
It is interesting reading ” Alexander Suvorov” by K. Osipov (1943). It makes one wonder what Ukraine might face if the heat is turned up. Note 18th century Suvorov might be considered one of the fathers of Russian Military science.
“This opinion of Suvorov fully coincides with the views put forward in the Field Regulations for the Red Army issued in 1936, the second paragraph of which reads: “The aim of the military operations of the Red Army is the destruction of the enemy. The achievement of complete victory and the utter defeat of the foe are our basic purpose in any war forced upon the Soviet Union.
“The sole means by which this end can be attained is by battle. The object of every battle is (a) the destruction of the personnel and material of the enemy ; (b) the undermining of his morale and powers of resistance.
“Every battle, whether defensive or offensive, has the object of inflicting defeat on the enemy. But only a resolute offensive in the main theatre of operations followed by an unrelenting pursuit can lead to the complete destruction of the forces and resources of the enemy.”
“Whoever fiights me will die,” Suvorov declared one day. “That decreases the numbers of my enemies: battle to the death nips in the bud many other battles which might cost even more blood.” (Pg 104)
Interestingly enough, Suvorov fought against the Ottoman Empire in the vicinity of Kherson.
When the enemy is out of range of their artilleries other countries move the artilleries closer to the enemy, the Russians let the enemy come closer to the artilleries.

I see no need for the Russians to end this quickly. The Russians have gained control of vast and fertile farmlands, acquired mineral resources (the coal fields) and industrial infrastructure (Mariupol). Increased its official population by several millions grateful and loyal citizens. Why change a winning strategy? “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”
The main point here I think is at the end, where M. notes that the Kremlin is allowing the military “free rein” meaning freedom to make tactical and strategic decisions which are not compromised by political “optics”. For the US EVERYTHING is “optics”. The US’ s reality is always virtual. Russia’s reality is existential. So the withdrawal from Kherson was likely planned months ago (as Patrick Lawrence says), proof being that the Russians were able to move their forces across the river in just three days AFTER removal of those civilians who felt themselves at risk during a UAF occupation. Simultaneously, the Russians took three strategic areas along their front line, positioning themselves well for an offensive when the ground freezes. Still, the US media trumpet Kherson as a symbolic event – an huge “defeat”, a “victory” for the UAF. Optics, optics, optics…..

I agree with your analysis.
I like Mr. Martyanov. He manages to make military stuff interessting, feel I learned a lot starting from zero.
To me it looks like Empire knows it is unable to conduct large scale conventional warfare, and is limited to use of weapons of mass destruction like nuclear and bacteriological weapons. In essense suicidal weapons.
It seems the American Empire, have gone the way of the British Empire, relying on 4G/5G ? type of warfare. This is the color revolution type of warfare, using a massive social intelligence network, NGOs, Pop/Consumer culture, money, bribes, blackmail, assasinations, threaths, mafia, drugs, cultural assault, terrorism, financial/economic warfare.
It is mainly limited to softpower. A power which is waning as the core of Empire is de-industrializing, monopolizing (through regulation and burocracy), de-cultureizing, de-educating, institusionlizing, becoming more degenerate and poor by every tick of the clock.
Who want to die for the commision in Brussels, for ‘Europe’ ? Apart from proffesional soldiers and fanatic nazis, not many. People can bitch about the current thing in social media, but only 1/1000 turns up. It’s game over, and TPTB know it.
It looks like Empire is withdrawing to Oceania to rebuild for another day, burning down and destroying as much as possible of the external world in the retreat. That includes soon to be former ‘allies’.
