   Am a bit nonplussed by this mysterious red “Palmyra triangle” and why it is important as a launch base. Sometime these reports have an element of the “huh?” factor which might be deliberate what with fog of war and all.

   I note an account of suicide attacks on Kurdish positions. In the last couple of years, ISIS had generally operated rather more like a normal battlefield force–light and flexible, but basically an army. If they’re returning to using the “weapons of the weak”, does that suggest that they are becoming . . . weak? Perhaps a good sign.
