[This column was written for the Unz Review]
I have to begin this column by admitting that “Biden” (note: when in quotation marks, I refer to the “collective Biden”, not the clearly senile man) surprised me: it appears that my personal rule-of-thumb about US Presidents (each one is even worse than his predecessor) might not necessarily apply in “Biden’s” case. That is not to say that “Biden” won’t end up proving my rule of thumb as still applicable, just that what I am seeing right now is not what I feared or expected.
Initially, I felt the rule still held. The total US faceplant in Alaska when Blinken apparently mistook the Chinese for woke-neutered serfs and quickly found out how mistaken he was.
But then there was the meeting with Putin which surprised many, including myself. Initially, most Russian observers joined one of two groups about the prospects for this summit:
- This summit will never happen, there is nothing to discuss, Biden is senile, his Admin is filled wall to wall with hardcore russophobes and, besides, the (US) Americans are “not agreement capable” (недоговороспособные) anyway, so what is the point?
- If the summit takes place, it will be a comprehensive failure. At best a shouting match or exchange of insults.
Neither of these happened. Truth be told, we still do not really know what happened. All we have are some vague declarations of intent and worded pious intentions. And even those were minimalistic! In fact, after the summit most Russian observers, again, broke into two main camps:
- “Biden” threw in the towel and gave up. Russians won this round. Hurray!
- “Biden” only changed tactics, and now the new US posture might well become even more aggressive and hostile. Russia is about to see a major surge in anti-Russian provocations. Alarm!
I think that both of these grossly oversimplify a probably much more complex and nuanced reality. In other words, “Biden” surprised many, if not most, Russians. That is very interesting by itself (neither Bush, nor Obama nor Trump ever surprised the Russians – who knew the score about all of them – in any meaningful way).
My strictly personal guess is that there is some very serious infighting currently taking place inside the US ruling class. Furthermore, that serious infighting is not about core principles or even strategy – it is a dispute over tactics only.
We have to keep in mind an old truism about outcomes: John F. Kennedy once said that “victory has a hundred fathers, but defeat is an orphan” and he was right. When any group seizes power and effectively controls its interests, all is well, and everybody is busy consuming the proverbial milk and honey. But when this group suffers a series of humiliating defeats, a typical cascade of events begins:
- Finger pointing: everybody blames everybody else (but never himself/herself)
- Hindsight wisdom: “if I had been in charge, this would not have happened!”
- Infighting over quickly shrinking spoils of war
- A collapse of the centralized center of authority/decision-making centers
- Generation of subgroups, fighting each other over their sub-interests
In other words, following many years of extremely weak presidential administrations (since Clinton, imho), it is hardly a surprise that infighting would take place (in both parties, by the way). In fact, an apparently chaotic set of uncoordinated, or even contradictory, policies is what one should expect. And that is exactly what we have been observing since 1993 and this dynamic has been getting worse and worse with each passing year).
Needless to say, the main outcome of such defeat-induced infighting is to weaken all the groups involved, regardless of their objectives and policies. Some might believe that this is a positive development, but I am not so sure at all (see below).
That being said, there are some observations which might be helpful when trying to at least (indirectly) identify who are the main groups fighting each other.
The hardcore, really nutty, russophobes are still here, especially in the US media which seems to be serving not so much “Biden” as much as some “crazies in the basement” kind of cabal. Next to the legacy ziomedia, there is an increasing number of US/NATO/UK military officials who are foaming at the mouth with threats, warnings, complaints and insults, all against Putin and Russia. This is important because:
- The “Zone A” media has comprehensively and very effectively concealed the very real risks of war with Russia, China and Iran. And if this was mentioned, the presstitutes always stressed that the US has the “best military in the history of the galaxy” and that Uncle Sam will “kickass” anybody he chooses to. If the people of the USA were informed of the truth of the matter, they would freak out and demand that this path to war be immediately abandoned and replaced with a meaningful dialog.
- US/NATO/UK authorities have talked themselves into a corner where they have only two outcomes left: they can do what the US always does, that is to “declare victory and leave”, or they can force Russia to protect her borders on land, air and sea and, thereby, face a major military humiliation delivered by Russia.
Truth be told, during the recent naval exercises UK and US officials made a lot of threats and promises to ignore Russian warnings, but in the end, they quietly packed and left. Smart choice, but it must have been painfully humiliating for them, which is very dangerous by itself.
How much of these statements/threats actually were done with “Biden’s” approval? I don’t know. But I am unaware of any reprimands, demotions or any other action taken against the crazies who are calling for a war against Russia, China or Iran. That does not mean that it did not happen, only that it was not publicized. My feeling is, however, that even if “Biden” did object to this kind of dangerous sabre rattling, “he” is too weak to do anything about it. It is quite possible that “Biden” is gradually losing control of his own administration.
[Sidebar: I recently had a good laugh hearing NATO naval personnel saying that Russians made “imitation attacks” on NATO ships by overflying them several times. Apparently, these folks sincerely think that gravity bombs are the main/only threat from the Russian Aerospace Forces and coastal defenses which, in reality, can sink US/UK/NATO ships without ever approaching them or even getting in their radar range. Not to mention 6-7 extremely quiet and heavily armed advanced diesel-electric subs of the Black Sea Fleet. While I don’t doubt the “diversity” of these NATO naval crews, I am now having major doubts about even their basic competence]
There will be many more NATO exercises in the Black Sea in the future. Ditto for USN operations off the Chinese, Iranian or DPRK coasts. This (always explosive) combo of ignorance, arrogance and incompetence could result in a major war.
Another option is the terminally delusional UK government (supported by those Brits who still have phantom pains about their lost empire and, of course, by the largely irrelevant 3B+PU gang) might do something really stupid (say, like this) and trigger a war with the DPRK, Russia, China or Iran and then the US would have to move to defend/save a British Navy which is mostly a joke (at least by Russian or Chinese standards). The main problem here being that the USN is also in a terrible shape and cannot compete against Russian and Chinese standoff weapons (I mean that literally, there are currently no defenses against maneuvering hypersonic missiles! The only exception would be the Russian S-500). The latter two nations, by the way, have joined into an informal and unofficial military alliance for many years already; check out this article and video or this one for a recent update).
But opposite, de-escalatory developments are also taking place. First and foremost, “Biden” seemed to have “farmed out” the “Ukrainian dossier” to the Germans and washed Uncle Shmuel’s hands from it. If so, that was a very slick and smart move (which is something we have not witnessed from any administration in decades!). I highly recommend this translation of a most interesting article by arguably the best Ukraine specialist out there, Rostislav Ishchenko.
Ishchenko goes into a lot of interesting details and explains what “Biden” apparently just did. Frankly, the Germans richly deserve this full-spectrum mess and they will be dealing with the consequences of this disaster for a long time, possibly decades. In fact, the Germans are stuck: they want to be the Big European Leader? Let them. After all, the EU politicians, led by Germany, did all they could to create what is now often called “country 404” – a black hole in the heart of the European continent. Germany is the biggest economic power of the EU? Good, then let the Germans (and the rest of the EU) pay for the eventual reconstruction of the Ukraine (or of the successor-states resulting from the breakup of the country)! Russia simply cannot foot that bill, China most definitely won’t (especially after being cheated several times by the Ukies) and the USA has absolutely no reasons whatsoever to do so. I would even argue that chaos (social, economic, political, cultural. etc.) in Europe is probably seen by the US ruling class as highly desirable since it 1) weakens the EU as a competitor 2) justifies, however hypocritically and mistakenly, a “strong US presence” in Europe and 3) gives NATO a reason (however mistaken, misguided and even immoral) to exist.
The US is protected from the fallout (immigrants, violence, extremism, etc.) of the Ukrainian disaster by distance, the Atlantic, a much stronger military (at least compared to anybody else in NATO). The US can print money in any way it wants and has no interests whatsoever in the (dying) Ukraine. If Ishchenko is right, and I agree with him, then there is somebody (possibly a group of somebodies) who is a lot smarter than anybody in the Trump Admin and who figured out that the Nazi-occuppied Ukraine should be an German/EU problem, not one for the US.
There is, of course, also the pessimistic analysis: the US is on the retreat everywhere, but only for the following reasons:
- Regroup, reorganize, buy time to develop some kind of coherent strategy
- Focus on each adversary separately and prioritize (divide et impera at least!)
- Re-analyze, re-plan, re-design, re-develop, re-train, re-equip and re-test pretty much everything in the US armed forces (which have not been shaped by any rational force planning in decades)
Those who believe the strategic retreat theory (I am not personally discounting this version, but I do not see enough evidence – yet – to endorse it either) typically add that “the US only left Afghanistan to hand it over to the Taliban/al-Qaeda and unleash them against “soft underbelly of Russia”. Now, that is utter nonsense, if only because Russia does not have a common border with Afghanistan.
Yes, sure, what is currently taking place in Afghanistan greatly worries all the leaders of the region, including the leaders of Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Iran. But it just so happens that the Russians have been in intense consultations with all these regional powers. Not only that, but Russia already has forces deployed in the region (including the 201st base in Tajikistan) and she has been substantially reinforcing them with no protests from the Empire (at least so far). Finally, all of Central Asia, the Caucasus and even the Middle-East is well within reach of numerous types of Russian long-range standoff weapons. Apparently, the Taliban know that, because they went to great lengths to promise all their neighbors that the (now inevitable) regime-change in Kabul will not represent a threat for anybody. Can we trust them? Nope, of course not. But can we trust them to be smart enough to realize that while they are currently the biggest force in Afghanistan, they don’t even come close to having what it takes to fight a war against any of Afghanistan’s neighbors? Yes, I think we can. After many years of fighting, and the Taliban already in control of part of Kabul, the Taliban will finally achieve their goals and become the true, official, leaders of Afghanistan. Should they try to attack or destabilize any of their neighbors, the very first thing they would lose would be Kabul and any chance to be accepted as the legitimate government of Afghanistan. Remember that, like the US, neither Russia nor Iran need to invade Afghanistan to strike at the Taliban, they can use proxies and they have the kind of weapon systems and launch platforms from which the Taliban cannot protect themselves. Last, but certainly not least, the Taliban know how the Russians and the Iranians fought in Syria, and they will not want to trigger anything similar in Afghanistan.
Furthermore, Russia’s “soft underbelly” is a 19th century concept. In the 21st century only the least informed and least competent people would ever use such a concept. Furthermore, only somebody with zero knowledge of actual military capabilities of the Southern and Central Military Districts of Russia could mention such a silly and outdated notion with a straight face. Besides, while the Afghans can be superb guerillas (but not always, contrary to the popular myth!), they cannot conduct combined arms offensive operations, while Russia and Iran can. Again, I will never say never, especially with Takfiris in the loop, but I don’t see the Taliban attacking anybody, least of all Russian or Iranian allies in the region.
Coming back to “Biden’s” great retreat: if “Biden” is smart enough to hang the Ukraine on Germany, “he” is probably too smart to predicate the US foreign policy towards Russia predicated around the “soft underbelly” thingie. As for all the “fire and brimstone” threats of war against Russia, they are not impressing anybody as the Russians, the Chinese and the Iranians know that a confident and powerful country does not need to threaten anybody, if only because the actual capabilities of these country are a very telling “threat” by themselves. But when a former superpower is weak, confused and frightened, it will make many roaring statements about how it can defeat the entire planet if needed (after all, the US military is “the best military in the history of the galaxy”! If you doubt that, just listen to Toby Keith!). In other words, while in the West threats are an instrument of foreign policy, in Russia, and in the rest of Asia, they are inevitably seen as a sign of weakness, doubts and even fear.
Then there seems to be a long list of weapons systems, procurement plans and “defense” monies which have been pulled back, including the (truly awful) LCS and F-35. While it is true that the US is gradually phasing out fantastically expensive weapons systems and platforms which were also more or less useless, this shows the ability to at least admit that all that talk about super-dooper US superweapons was just that, talk, and that in reality the US MIC is incapable of producing the kind of superb high quality systems which it used to produce in large quantities in the past (Arleigh Burke, F-15, Jumbo 747, the Willys Jeep, F-16, A-10, Los Angeles SSN, KH satellites, etc.). This is also why the F-15X is designed to “augment” the F-35 feet (by itself a very smart move!).
Such an admission, even if indirect and only logically implied, might show a level of maturity, or courage, by “Biden” which his predecessors did not have.
Could it be that the folks at the Pentagon, who do know the reality of the situation (see here for a very good Moon of Alabama article about this), figured out that Clinton, Bush, Obama and Trump vastly over extended the Empire and now they need to regroup and “re-everything” to achieve a more sustainable “defense” posture?
Could it be that “Biden” will deliver what Trump promised, i.e. to end the useless (and unwinnable!) wars, stop caring too much about the agonizing EU, silently accept that Russia has no intentions (and no need!) whatsoever to attack anyone and focus on the biggest non-military threat out there: China. Maybe.
As far as I know, many (all?) simulations – by RAND and the US military – and command staff exercises have shown that the US would lose badly to both Russia or China. Could it be that “Biden” wants to put Russia and China on the backburner and “deal” with Iran first? The latest news on the US/Israel vs Iran front is not good, to say the least.
I still believe that following the murder of General Suleimani and the retaliatory Iranian missile strikes the US seems to have given up on the idea of a direct attack on Iran. After all, not only did Trump let the “most powerful military in the history of the galaxy” be humiliated and seriously scared – for good reason – by the extremely accurate Iranian missile strikes, but the entire world witnessed this humiliation. After that disaster, why would “Biden” decide to attack?
Could “Biden” be even dumber than Trump? I very much doubt it. Besides, both Trump and Biden were equally subservient to the Israel Lobby anyway, so I would never say never, especially since all Israel has to do to force the US to attack Iran, is to attack first, then present any Iranian response as a planned “genocide of 6 million Jews” (what else?), but this time in Israel and by the Iranians (who might even use gas, who knows?). At these words, both the GOP and the Dems will snap to attention and immediately rush to save America’s most precious and beloved “ally” (in reality, its colonial master and overlord, of course). About Israel, we can only sadly conclude that it really makes no difference whatsoever whether the Demolicans or the Republicrats (mostly RINOs anyway) happens to be in the White House.
So what are we left with?
Frankly, I am not sure.
I think that there is very strong, even if only indirect, evidence which there is some very serious in-fighting taking place in the “Biden” administration and there is also strong, but also indirect, evidence that the military posture of the United States is undergoing what might end up being a major overhaul of the US armed forces.
If true, and that is a big “if”, this is neither good news nor bad news.
But this might be big news.
Why?
Because, objectively, the current US retreat on most fronts might be the “soft landing” (transition from Empire to “normal” country) many Trump voters were hoping for. Or it might not. If it is not, this might be a chaos-induced retreat, indicating that the US state is crumbling and has to urgently “simplify” things to try to survive, thereby generating a lot of factional infighting (at least one Russian observer specialized in “US studies”, Dmitrii Drobnitskii, believes to be the case: see the original article here, and its machine translation here). Finally, the state of decay of the US state might already be so advanced that we can consider it as profoundly dysfunctional and basically collapsing/collapsed. The first option (soft landing) is unlikely, yet highly desirable. The second option (chaos-induced retreat) is more likely, but much less desirable as it is only a single step back to then make several steps forward again. The last option (profoundly dysfunctional and basically collapsing/collapsed) is, alas, the most likely, and it is also, by far, the most perilous one.
For one thing, options #2 and #3 will make US actions very unpredictable and, therefore, potentially extremely dangerous. Unpredictable chaos can also quickly morph into a major war, or even several major ones, so the potential danger here is very real (even if totally unreported in Zone A). This, in turn, means that Russia, China, Iran, the DPRK, Venezuela or Cuba all have to keep their guard up and be ready for anything, even the unthinkable (which is often what total chaos generates).
Right now, the fact that the US has initiated a “great retreat” is undeniable. But the true reasons behind it, and its implications, remain quite obscure, at least to me.
I will conclude by asking you, the readers, for your opinion: do you think that the US is currently in a “contraction phase”? If yes, do you believe that this is a short-term only phenomenon, or will this retreat continue and, if yes, how far?
The Saker
I don’t know what is happening but here are a few thoughts. I think the U.S. knows that the axis of resistance i now formidible and that it cannot defeat it head to head. The U.S. is therefore cutting its losses and retreating (Afgahnistan, Iraq, Ukraine, Syria), while trying to cajole, pressure and blackmail allies/vassals into stepping up. Militarily the U.S. is attempting death by 1000 cuts which includes big time embargoes, lying, cheating, stealing and false flags, sowing destruction through as many whacko mercenary groups as possible: MEK, ISIS/Al Qaida, Asov, Uighurs, Miami Cubans, evangelical Christians, Zionists, Narcos. Oh, and NATO.
Meanwhile, Biden appears to be dusting off the Monroe Doctrine and ramping up hegemony in Latin America, more like a regional imperial power as opposed to a world imperial power. I look for hot wars on Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela within a year. Bolsonaro plans to become a king and will try and stage a coup with Biden’s help since Lula would not bow down to Biden. bottom line, hard times for everyone, no “soft landing”. Strengthen your life lines. Talk to neighbors more. Grow more food. Get stronger. Stop whining.
No contraction, no retreat.
The US is shifting. They are creating a buffer of proxies to contain China, and then rebase out of range of China’s missiles. Vanuatu, Hawaii, Guam, Marshall Islands, the Philippines, and Australia, will get buildups, naval base-building and become airfields and logistic hubs for trying to contain China within the first chain of islands. The QUAD will become the Asian NATO if the US can keep demonizing China.
Biden cannot possibly be strategizing any of this. The US Navy has always dominated American policy and actions in the Asia Pacific region. They are changing the facts on the ground (and the seas).
The US versus Russia is Game Over. Putin has the technologies, weapons, and will against which the US and the West have no answer. Look closely. The best they can drum up is to try to take down Lukashenko in Belarus. and if they create a serious destabilization, Russian military and security forces would go in an keep order.
The US is not going to leave Afghanistan, Iraq or Syria. Such a vacuum would be a strategic gift to Russia, Iran and China. With little effort, the US can keep all three in turmoil for years more. There are plenty of ISIS and AQ fighters who work for peanuts (and some meth).
What will change is emphasis. We will see and hear a lot about Taiwan and the Philippine Sea instead of Iran and the Persian Gulf.
Wouldn’t be China out of range of American missiles from Vanuatu, etc also?
Quite so… how could US apply kinetic force if their carrier aircraft/missiles are out of range, same for Australia, Vanuatu and Phillipines aircraft/missiles. In effect, the US have backed-off and ‘surrendered’ to reality: China now owns the China Seas.
Submarines and a variety of aerial platforms for launching cruise missiles in closer while keeping the surface fleets in safety.
The US submarine fleet is vast, silent and elusive.
Bombers, drone bombers, stealth aircraft all are capable of launching missiles from safe distances.
US subs or stealth aircraft can’t do anything significant in the SCS because they aren’t that stealthy as they claim. Besides, Chinese missiles can take down them and they also have subs.
So what you are saying is that the USA will go to war?
What I see are a mess of internal groups with competing agendas, all focusing their demands on a bunch of idealistic twits in government who are being led by a smaller group that is not at all cohesive, in that the power and thus strategy shifts from minute to minute depending on what the issue being decided actually is. My take is that there is no cohesive strategy tying all of the various arms of government together to produce the sort of effort needed to prosecute a succcessful war. Intelligence has several arms, all running their own agendas, Military the same, commerce and industrial policy are run by various lobby groups. That arrangement does not work in any organisation, never has, never will. It is a house divided and it will not stand for much longer. It is the logical result of their method of selecting the nominal leader by using donations by influence seekers and an ability to corrupt the voters intent using all manner of corruption instead of seeking out demonstrated competence at managing complex systems.
The Russian, Chinese and Iranians have been pursuing a strategy of prepare, prepare, prepare for war, while doing everything in their power to give the USA no valid reason to take agressive action. It is a tricky game, and they have played it masterfully. A little more patience and they will win it. The USA will collapse into seperate, possibly warring, states and there will be a widespread global economic contraction, possibly driven by a die off caused by a bioweaponised virus gone rogue.
Meanwhile the climatic “change” that is in reality a result of long cycle cosmological events, which humanity has little understanding of, will do what it does regarless and our future will be largely determined by that and our response to it, if indeed our response is adequate to ensure our survival. The nature of life on this planet has been drastically altered before and there is no reason to think the possibility of it happening again has been eliminated because “humanity” now exists.
Yes for Larchmonter445. I don’t see contraction per se, but I see a change in tactics which means a contraction in certain spheres and in others, not, or even a build-up of resources.
The inherent personality of the hegemon does not allow it to retreat, excepting perhaps temporarily reorganizing and restrategizing. I expect many more attempts at internal destabilization of little countries, using internal paid resources and even unsuccessful figures such as Juan Guaidó. We will probably have to relearn the tactics of color revolutions for the future because the very nature of this is changing and the ‘doubling-down’ strategy has changed its form, but it is alive and present.
The CIA-type operations will only increase and the kinetic operations may reduce for now as Russia (bless her heart) is keeping us on a relatively even keel on that vector. The hegemon will attempt to hollow out little countries, take their resources but leave something behind that looks like a country. One old methodology is being dusted off and used again, and that is the one initially used for Cuba. That was basically .. You can have your Cubanness, you can have your peso, you can have your flag and your leaders, but we will take your tin mines, your agriculture, your fishing, your tourism, and your income. Not to worry, we will leave you some to keep your national buildings in good repair and to do your festivals.
It truly is that bad, and it is only the strategy and tactics that are changing. For bigger countries, balkanization is a word again and the rules-based international order is not a joke. Where there may be internal faction fighting in the halls of the hegemonic leadership, there is clear collusion on the vector of what can we destabilize to remain on top of the heap. A writer called this ‘intersectional imperialism’. My view is that only the continual reduction of the dollar as reserve can make a material change here, or a definitive internal crash of some kind. China is on it though, but for the moment, things are inherently dangerous.
We are into a period of continual destabilization of everything. It is a time of If we cannot be the winners, then we will prohibit you from developing or winning anything. There is a military term for this that escapes me now.
The Harris person is visiting Vietnam, under the slogan: “America is back.”
@Larch and Amarynth,
I generally agree that the USA is reorganizing rather than giving up, but there is a limit to what is >possibleneeded< to maintain the hegemony:
– trade in native currencies between a large portion of the world drives down demand for USD and impacts their military budget. This in turn disrupts infrastructure maintenance and society. Sun Tzu once observed that disrupted infrastructure annoys the peasants and should be avoided.
– foreign weapons systems that are equal to or better performing than US systems at lower cost drive away customers and display US incompetence, further disrupting the budget and USD demand
– Hollywood breaking down into the wokester brigade is producing a nonstop stream of twaddle that is disrupting soft power projection as large swathes of the world reject it,
– leaving Afghanistan in the middle of the night displayed weakness, as well as watching the Kabul Cabal Collapse in slow motion and knowing it was a US propped regime,
– the destruction of the US sponsored HK 'rebellion' and subsequent rolling up of their useful idiots displayed how safe it is to be a US operative today,
– BLM and other incentives in US society displaying internal fractures,
There are many more examples. I believe that what passes for strategists in the US government today are weighing their options and as the Saker mentions in-fighting on tactics only. The US claim to the world was expounded by O'Sullivan in 1839 and has formed their strategic goal henceforth: https://www.mtholyoke.edu/acad/intrel/osulliva.htm
"The far-reaching, the boundless future will be the era of American greatness. In its magnificent domain of space and time, the nation of many nations is destined to manifest to mankind the excellence of divine principles; to establish on earth the noblest temple ever dedicated to the worship of the Most High — the Sacred and the True. Its floor shall be a hemisphere — its roof the firmament of the star-studded heavens, and its congregation an Union of many Republics, comprising hundreds of happy millions, calling, owning no man master, but governed by God's natural and moral law of equality, the law of brotherhood — of "peace and good will amongst men.". . . "
Amarynth, I believe the term you were searching for is 'scorched earth policy' where a retreating army destroys everything in retreat to stretch an invading armies logistics chain, or 'Area Denial' where an area that cannot be controlled directly can be made uninhabitable through terrain destruction or other means.
This is a very dangerous time in human history, the empire that claimed the entire world as its' domain, reached for total dominance, failed, is now confronting the litany of failures ineffective strategy has wrought
I wrote this in 2011: The above sequence of events is hypothetical, but blended on the historical rise and fall of several empires. In the USA today the evidence of decline should be obvious to any astute reader, and I personally place the USA at the late decline to end stage.
Is there a possibility that the USA can pull back from collapse? I think so, but it will take men and women of courage, principal, and leadership. The task will be dangerous as the parasites that have infected the body politic will organize to defend their interests, probably leading to violence.
For certain, to survive intact, the USA will have to lose the overseas empire and become, for the first time, a true democracy.
Of greater concern than the parasitic politician/financier class is the current social drift that is happening in the USA. The ideals of courage, honor, duty, and social cohesion that drive societies to adapt and survive have been replaced with hedonism, greed, and self interest. No society composed of these disruptive virtues has ever managed to reconstitute itself.

”Hollywood breaking down into the wokester brigade is producing a nonstop stream of twaddle that is disrupting soft power projection as large swathes of the world reject it,”
Haha, it should definitely give quite some headache in countries such as Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Poland where the Empire’s stooge governments are of the conservative ”pious” breed. Explaining to their respective subjects the wonderful joys and ”progressive thrust” of globo-homo sleaze along with all the funny genders that come with it certainly won’t be easy. Can you imagine Gównopolska’s reaction in case Pilsudski were to be portrayed as a gender-confused cutie showing his/her/its butt in church like ”Pussy Riot” did in Russia? George Soros has not abandoned his Eastern European satrapies, so stay alert!
“There is a military term for this that escapes me now.”
Salting the earth is one term for it.
@Larchmonter445
” The US is shifting. They are creating a buffer of proxies to contain China, and then rebase out of range of China’s missiles.”
I agree that US is “shifting”. But the reasons are not some grand strategy ones. They are b.r.o.k.e.
Politicaly. Socially. Sexually. Health. Infrastructure. Cracks everywhere.
The western empire is in the final stage of its historical life cycle so its moves are erratic like those in old sclerotic men who stubbornly refuse to accept reality. Running up the stairs and falling again and again.
They can do a lot of damage here and there (and they surely will), but nothing can change their fate. The World will survive…
So, it is not contraction, nor retreat. It is last gasp for air.
Anglo-saxon civilisation had its time, and it shined bright. Now it is time to leave the stage, along with their proxies.
Gracefully, I hope.
Great comments Larchmonter, Amarynth and Blackring.
It is a shift, yes, but one taken out of necessity due to internal and external constraints. (Internal constraints due financial situation, fracturing of society etc, and external constraints such as military containment by Russia and China).
A very worthwhile analysis Saker; As I see it the empire is collapsing rapidly and irretrievably. It is going to need all the resources it can muster to keep its most feared opponent from causing it real problems. That uber dangerous opponent (at least in the eyes of the empire) is, as always, the American people. So it is consolidating as well as retreating. It has no real political capital left with which to launch any serious aggression and Zone B is steadily increasing its gravitational pull on the rest of humanity. All the empire has left is propaganda and the ability to do weird shit with money. But they know they are riding a very dangerous tiger, which limits their operational room more than we might expect.
The understanding I hold to is that in terms of real power the empire died in December of 2012. It just takes a little time for the empire to realize it is stone dead and for its corpse to fall to the earth. When one is finally out of cosmic time that is it. When an entity runs out of cosmic time it no longer has any capacity for creative self construction, so I cannot see the empire regaining any consolidated capacity for sustaining itself.
However I share your expectation that the chaos will intensify and that will further the destruction. But I feel I have reason to be confident that it will not be allowed to take humanity down with it. There has been so much spiritual integrity built up amongst the people of the world over the last 40 years that there is no way that cannot have a positive salvatory influence. That fact alone holds opens the door to a survivable transition.
For the first time in a very long time, we are seeing erstwhile establishment voices call for an end to US militarism in the Middle East. That is a welcome sign, but I doubt it is for the correct reasons. US exceptionalism is still the state religion on the shores of the Potomac.
Another important indicator is the intensification of US regime change and chaos-generation tactics in Asia, particularly Indochina. The National Endowment for Democracy and its local stooges are fomenting demonstrations and violence in virtually every country on China’s borders. The US is determined to undermine the Belt and Road Initiative and defeat China economically – something it cannot do by competition in the classic capitalist manner, but thinks it can do by subterfuge and threat. It could be that we are simply seeing a “Pivot to Asia” by “Biden”.
When considered alongside the ever-heightening level of threats, insults and sanctions against the Russian Federation, it makes sense that the US Military-Industrial Complex intends to justify additional trillions of dollars for weapons systems to fight a war against a major power. Fighting “terrorism”, particularly through proxies, simply doesn’t generate enough revenue. More major, technically complex, and expensive systems are very profitable, particularly when they don’t actually have to meet specifications or be delivered on time.
The only hope the world has at this point (and it’s a faint one) is that the people of the US will finally realize that the reason they have streets filled with homeless people in tents, millions without adequate health care, a crumbling infrastructure, and stagnant wages, is that all the fruits of their labor are going to the wealthy and the military. Given the captive media system in this country, it’s unlikely they will notice until it’s too late – if it isn’t already.
As an American with American connections who are the voting public, I would argue that perhaps 80-90% of citizens do know where their tax dollars go. And about 70% disapprove. About 99% believe there is nothing they can do about the state of the government, or whether their government does good things or bad. The whole body politic has been written off as something evil that is beyond control of the people. Not one politician is trusted, unless it is Trump (by the ultra conservatives) or Obama (most everyone else—particularly if your skin is not white). All other politicians are greedy, selfish pigs not to be trusted—even if they were upstanding members of society until the day they threw their proverbial hat into the ring.
Americans believe that all of DC is corrupt and that their only salvation is to elect the next Republican or Democrat president who will fix all the evils of the past president’s term. —which amazingly fails miserably and then we are back doing the same thing 4 years later, only the opposing party is in the hot seat.
So much for government “of the people, by the people…”
This has not been the case for many years. The American country has long out grown its own system of government and has become the Empire. The Americans mostly believe nothing has changed in the past 150 years, but they can see that things aren’t right but can’t tell exactly what it is —“something to do with term limits, maybe?” Now it is run more or less by the CIA /5th or 6th column, behind the scenes. The states are run by themselves, but in servitude to the Federal government. More and more the states are declaring independence from the federal edicts—which shows the cracks in the fabric of society. The US cannot survive in the state it is in. It will most certainly crumble, and perhaps some of the states, if they are wise will band together to form a coalition, to first finance themselves outside of the Federal payroll, and secondly to enforce the laws and their territories against all threats, foreign and domestic. I suspect that nearly all the states, and some half-states would desire to do so. However to do so would cause further division and perhaps even war.
Has the US begun its “great retreat”?
Not by a long shot.
The US fully realises that the window of opportunity to tackle China without undue loss to itself is gradually closing and will have definitively closed in the next few years if nothing is done about it.
Hence the renewed efforts to rally or armtwist allies put soldiers/armaments in place, build up the internal political consensus for war etc.
I predict a make or break confrontation before the end of this US presidential cycle.
“The U.S. military was crippled during a classified war game last year that exposed vulnerabilities the Pentagon is trying to fix, should it ever face off against a sophisticated adversary like China, the vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs said this week.
“Without overstating the issue, it failed miserably,” Gen. John Hyten said of the battle plan during the October exercise, which he detailed Monday at the Emerging Technologies Institute in Washington.”
https://www.stripes.com/theaters/us/2021-07-27/US-China-military-war-game-hyten-2326077.html
No-one won the war by armtwisting “allies”.
Allies are NOT drones on remote control. It seems that US strategists won too many simulated battles on computer.
As for “window of opportunity”…it is shut and bricked for years now.
Having said that, I also foresee make or brake move. Hoping it wont make to much mess before its inevitable break.
OK. vassals, not allies.
“My strictly personal guess is that there is some very serious infighting currently taking place inside the US ruling class. Furthermore, that serious infighting is not about core principles or even strategy – it is a dispute over tactics only.”
The goal of the US has been and still is “Full Spectrum Dominance”. As you stated, the factions in the US only differ in tactics, not in the objective. Hence the regrouping and consolidation for whatever attack is going to happen.
That explains the “exit” from Afghanistan. The US never had any real need for boots on the ground in Afghanistan. It was a useful training ground and annoyed the Resistance. Given that the Taliban are a wholly owned subsidiary of Pakistan which is financed by the Saudis the level of chaos in Afghanistan can be adjusted at will to keep US adversaries distracted. This can be done just as well without boots on the ground in Afg.
The way things are going it looks like only a decisive military victory over the US will stop the US from doing whatever it takes to achieve “Full Spectrum Dominance”.
Even if such a military victory happened (without total destruction of the planet) the US would not give up but retreat into itself along with the five-eyes and a few other hangers-on. I do not imagine Russia/China ruling over the US giving them a new constitution etc. as the US did with Japan.
Thanks Saker for this very insightful overview.
Has the US initiated a “great retreat” or is it merely taking a pose to define the state of affairs it finds itself in ?
Some facts are well known by now, about the reality of American society, that are not given sufficient attention in the Geopolitical context :
1. Perhaps most importantly the country is not only fragmented; it is atomized which means that it is unable to act as one any longer because the individual energies disperse in all directions (loss of societal cohesion). The public decision-makers are visibly rattled by this sociological reality so much more so that the academy has no good grasp of societal atomization. The handling of Covid has put that in evidence for all to see and the same is at work in the military…which must frighten the hell in the minds of the military brass.
2. The US economy is financialized through and through. This means that capital formation is completely disconnected from the realities of industrial production. In such a context capital will avoid investing in future US production. The only hope to restart an industrial economy is thus through state investments or state grants to corporations.
3. The financial sector has learned that it could always rely on money creation. Since the beginning of Covid dispersion in the US the FED has infused a mountain of cash into the economy that – for one gives the impression that the economy is running decently – but the prices of consumer goods are rising at alarming rates which renders life difficult for most Americans – 40% of all US dollars in existence today have been printed in the last 12 months – People in the know are forecasting that the U.S. could achieve an inflation rate of 1,000% or more soon and they are asking if America is repeating the same mistake of Weimar Germany in 1921 ?
4. The societal and financial uncertainties one day will eventually converge and the US financial system will crash. It is impossible to forecast when exactly this event will take place. But what is know is that this event will see the stock-market tank significantly which will be followed by a maelstrom of bankruptcies that, in turn, will be followed by high unemployment figures and a lot social misery.
5. This internal reality is furthermore conflicted by external factors like – the rapprochement between Russia and China and Iran – the continued growth of the Chinese economy and what appears to be its technological breakthrough as a self-sufficient technological and manufacturing pole – the convergence of East-Asian nations into the economic center of the world with China at the core – the world’s popular opinion is furthermore increasingly turning against US foreign adventures and also against the US model of society
All these facts are interacting and rendering the US societal construct more and more fragile. There is no doubt in my mind that all these factors are weighing ever more forcefully on the minds of the US government’s decision makers. In light of this very particular context it is most probable that the US authorities are taking a pose to reflect and to decide on a new strategy that is better adapted to their present predicament…
Yes, people tend to overlook the internal situation of USA. “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand”.
As far as the Middle East is concerned, the US is NOT retreating because Israel didn’t give Biden its approval ( I am serious here!). The US is not leaving the Persian gulf, Iraq, Syria or Afghanistan. Troops are being re-arranged in a configuration that guaranties Israel’s security (i.e colonial aspirations).
King Abdullah’s visit to the White House was all about the new configuration of US forces around the Palestinian occupied territories aka Israel: see “Biden praises Jordan’s King Abdullah as a loyal friend in a ‘tough neighborhood.’”
Early this year Biden organized a regime change operation in Jordan that failed miserably. At that point, Jordan and Egypt were no longer considered important for Israel after the later had normalized its relations with Morocco, Sudan, UAE and Saudi Arabia (privately!!!). So, Israel used Saudi Arabia to launch a putsch in Jordan in order to to take control of Jerusalem (which was opposed by King Abdullah).
Then came the 11 day war in May between Hamas and Israel that proved to the world that the Iron Dome defense system, Raython’s PAC patriot missiles were pretty useless in the face of swarms of drones, rockets and missiles. The would be UK/US/Israel high tech weapons are empty propaganda as proven by Hamas $500 drones, $100 rockets and $1000 missiles damages to the Israeli economy in 11 days!
King Abdullah then became useful again. The US has signed a $800million per year contract with Jordan (hence the trip to the White House) allowing the US to build 13 military bases in Jordan and have unfettered access to the kingdom’s airspace 24/7!!
Troops from Syria (not relabelled as trainers!), from Qatar, Afghanistan and Kuwait are going to be re-positioned in Jordan not far from the Syria/Iraq borders.
Note that CentCom already left Qatar fearing that if Iran attacked it, all their communications withe the middle eastern bases would be lost.
That’s the configuration that Israel imposed on the Biden Administration. Israeli Khazarians are the ones in charge of the US foreign adventures, not the US officially elected clowns.
‘This’ is the only thing that America cares for. Playing tough with China is a distraction for the ‘whites’, always eager to teach the ‘ching-chongs’ a lesson.
@Nostradamus
You have this wrong:
“Note that CentCom already left Qatar fearing that if Iran attacked it, all their communications withe the middle eastern bases would be lost.”
Centcom has been moving its equipment from Afghanistan to Qatar and has been flying its most recent bombing aircraft to Afghanistan from Qatar.
Al Udeid Air Base is CENTCOM’s forward headquarters in the Middle East and a crucial hub for the U.S. air campaign against ISIS. Home to 11,000 U.S. and coalition service members and up to 120 aircraft. It is the biggest base the US has in the ME.
What is interesting is the US has moved its missile defenses from the ME to the Pacific zone, so they must have the feeling that Iran won’t attack them in Qatar. That could be based on an agreement that is secret between Iran and the US or it could be based on the supposition that Iran would be escalating to a full scale war which would end with the obliteration of Tehran and most of Iran’s infrastructure.
To Larchmonter445
“Iran would be escalating to a full scale war which would end with the obliteration of Tehran and most of Iran’s infrastructure” – not before obliteration of Tel Aviv and most of Israel’s infrastructure – by Iran.
Highly likely that whatever Iran suffers will be dealt in kind to the psychotic little nation with a God complex.
You have that right, Katerina.
“That could be based on an agreement that is secret between Iran and the US “.
This was suggested at least once in the last months in the Voltaire Network, I think…
Hmm. Great Retreat? Maybe on the macro front, but there’s been an awful lot of assassinations of heads of state lately; mostly unreported in the US. This implies to myself that the tactic has changed, but not necessarily the goals.
Bingo. Wars are expensive, wasteful and, even if successful, breed permanent resentment of the domestic population against the occupiers. That makes sustained occupation impractical.
The US is back in regime change mode, which is ironically how they lost their own country to AIPAC, IAC, etc., shortly after the assassination of Kennedy.
The first key step is information war and economic war with the goal of installing a permanent political leadership class which will follow the neo-liberal protocols of the Washington Consensus. The leaders of all major countries are acutely aware of this.
Then divide and rule to prevent
The US elite is too arrogant to retreat. They are just shifting focus to achieving their hegemony by non-military means.
TEP.
The retreat will be in inverse proportion to the value of the dollar. More retreat=less value.
In my opinion, what happened with the “coalition” of countries against assad in Syria is repeating itself in the USA. Like in Syria, many groups aka countries came together with the sole aim of bringing down assad despite the hatred some of them had for each other. For example, Turkey/Saudi. When it failed, they went at each others throat. In the USA, the goal was to remove Trump. You had Republicans switching over, forming coalitions to remove Trump. Resources were pulled to do that. Unlike Syria, it was successful. However, these people who hated themselves have a huge problem on the decision roundtable in the aftermath. Each group had its own goals and wants it to reign supreme. This resulted in many puppet masters but one puppet (Biden). This was clear from the lack of support given to Netanyahu and so many other inconsistent policies. If one adds the current geopolitical realities and the domestic situation, it exercabated the internal civil war.
Personally, I think a full blown out civil war among “BIDEN” is enroute which will definitely result in the total collapse of the country as each faction would want to show its influence
3 small things I noted… US has provoked China by a big arms sale to Taiwan….and was quite upset by stupid UK sailing their aircraft carrier in China seas…plus a test of a hypersonic missile failed the ither day when the ngone did not ignite. Hmm.
Last year USA seemed to be quite determined to confront Russia over its northern passage and arctic seas presence…..going to rely on its more traditional naval fleets I seem to recall .
Dear Saker,
IMHO what we see looks like what we see for, at least, twelve years : a total loss of central power and planification.
Since twelve years, US foreign policies are a incredible mess where differents kind of administrations, agencies and even omg follow there own purposes and agendas. Sometimes again each other like in Syria ou Ukraina under Obama.
It’s look like… anarchy.
A pyramidal build system wich is no more pyramidal.
Group of major officiers says A, another says B, State Department says C but à bit of A to, White House says C but à bit of B, CIA says nothing but acts E, DIA F and NSA, A but a little F, Rand cry about C but A and considering F, Stratfor pulls out hair in shouting that D but A and G, one bunch of neocons push to À an other to F, and the crazy Woke dems swear that everybody’s wrong because it’s obvious that P and S mean X, and most of them never forgett that the fondamental is $. THEIR OWN $ for sure.
Each time, one of them seems adopt a beginning of strategy, most of others stonewall or play against.
Even the people of USA is no more united in the trust of their institutions. Présidence, Suprem Court, Congress, Justice, Army, Health.
A terrible mess.
Usualy, in History you can only see such a mess AFTER the beginning of a revolution, France 1789, Mexico After independance, USSR in 1917 and 1991.
But never before…
Perhaps wrong, but the only exemple I see is the Roman Republic 60 BC before the Imperium and the Roman Empire at the IIIe century when legions decided who desserve to be Emperor.
But in the two cases, Romans were note alone. In the end of Republic, Crassus Lost himself in a terrible desaster against the Parthes. And Cesar rised himself in destroying the peacefull Gaule and thé last traces of egyptian independance. Few later, result was Imperium.
In 3e century, Romans had no more strong ennemyes. Then they had peacefully destroy themselves during two centuries in incessant civil Wars(240!!!) between legions. And then till Huns arrived and did a bowling strike in the german lands that finally destroyed West (already) Roman Empire.
What’s about USA? Desaster against Iran and next a dictature? Then order back and then strengh and then agressive come back?
In the mess and weakness USA became, they only have two main solutions:
-double down and try a war(like against Irak in 1991), to unite the country, repair the pyramidal chain of command and make the vassals obey.
-let it go to an inevitable civil war or explosion in several entities.
What IS surprising is that Russia and China seem tetanized and don’t dare nothing strong. They keep on acting and speaking like minor lands to the master.
There is a time when they will MUST act and speak like equals. It’s not yet thé case.
And that make believe to US that they are still the most powerfull country of thé galaxy.
And THAT is dangereous.
“In 3e century, Romans had no more strong ennemyes. ”
Shapur I of Persia captured the Roman Emperor Valerian in battle, alive, in the third century, and took him to Persia as a hostage where he lived the rest of his days as a slave. The only instance of a Roman Emperor ever getting captured by an enemy.
So, your assertion is categorically incorrect.
Thanks you for this précision. But what I wanted to mean is not an ennemy not strong enough to resist to Roman Empire but strong enough to INVIDE roman Empire.
They had a lot of ennemy dangereous enough to resist: germains, Sarmates, Arabians, Berbères.
But no one able to break it.
Usualy, in History you can only see such a mess AFTER the beginning of a revolution
But there IS an unfolding revolution currently.
Just not a military-political one as the the ones you referenced, but a cultural-philosophic one.
The “woke” and “lgbt++” cultural and philosophic changes ARE a revolution, and they are generating all the things you see in a revolution (including internal fighting and sudden changes of alliances).
However, the very nature of this revolution is destructive to the core of the societies where it unfold; and also at its core it doesn’t provide for any solid base on which to build (because “you can be whatever you feel like” is not a basis to build a human community). So, those countries currently pushing the woke-revolution will ultimately crash.
The attitude of Russia and China is clever, it is best to leave the US and EU crash by themselves, than providing them an outside focus to overcome their autodestructive tendencies.
The character of the hegemon has become schitzophrenic. What it will do is difficult to predict and is driven by contradictory internal forces unhinged from reality.
“woke” and lgbt+++ are not a revolution. They are symptom of a culture being driven into terminal decline. The revolution will be the response to that decline by those who can see past the smoke and mirrors being used by a very small but influential lobby to attempt to herd humanity into its corral for its own benefit.
It’s a tool of power elites. They elected the white majority to be their enemy of their system’s progression. Easiest trick in the book elevate some of your slaves to be the overseer and punisher there by deflecting the rightous anger at them and not at you. Make them as insane as possible, let them gobble up a set of self immolating ideas (like white childless women apparently love to do – havin nothing else to care for and betas following said females) and let this mind virus run wild. Voilà, now you have a woke punisher organization. Kind of a color revolution technology.
Wondered if this was a filler after another ‘dissident’ article and I was not disappointed.
Astan: As far as I can judge Russian msm and real opposition media are focused in two things drug export to Russia and the expulsion of ISIS/Qa’ida types to the CA republics. These expatriates are a big threat. Nobody in their right mind thinks the Talibs, despite the common myth, will attack their neighbours.
Ukrnazistan: This is where I mostly agree that the US will use this preservative as long as possible to demage Russia. Germany is clueless and will pretend such a country doesn’t exist. It’s like handing other a car without engine or tires. German politicans are too stupid to comprehend anything past village level.
The US: I see the country in accelerated regression and approaching a event horizon of no return very fast. The white majority is thoroughly demoralized, as is probably the military (did hear the failed lover background story of the burned downed navy ship – I think it was a large ship). The C19 disaster with forced vaxx is splintering the united states. East and West Coast against flyover country, north against South. City against rural America. It would be so easy for China and Russia to organize a civil war in the US if they really wanted to. The constant influx of hundreds of thousands of illegals. Drugs, crime, crt in schoolz/uniz, homelessness, decaying infrastructure, degeneracy allaround etc. I do not see one healthy ‘subject’ which can and wants to turn around the situation. Trump was the last failed, incompetent, stupid, traitorous attempt at that.
Russia: The upside is that at least the current oligarchic / presedential power center is quite aware of the imminent death it will face by being too much pro-West. It’s like goons who have realized to be unwelcome in enemy surroundings. Now they have to arm up and do something for their home turf. Much talking, but few results. As always Russian peoples genius is saving the day militarily and civically. Russia has quality weapons but not nearly the ability toarm up in mass. Economically it’s staying afloat despite the liberal clans best effort. Saker, take a look at real opposition media like tsargrad, radio aurora … heck even state propagandist Soloviev and his favorite tribe members are calling the Russian elite fir what it is: Small minded, degenerate, jealous, traitorous, stupid… The education system is becoming more of a joke by the year and “migration” makes the situation worse. Demography is a disaster and the Russian leadership tries to push the people into a few mega cities in the West. The east is becoming empty – Shoigu just made a public statement offering the idea to build a few new cities in Siberia and to move the capital there. At least someone thinking unconventionally.
Anywhere I look, except China for the most part, I see incompetence, stupidity, degeneracy and regression.
From my point of view, the US is in a state of contraction around the world. I agree with Saker with this. This is quite obvious considering the overall picture of news or the information field around the world.
This deviation, or rather reduction, is not a temporary phenomenon. This is a long-term trend. It is born out of the fact that the United States no longer has the resources to maintain world hegemony. As a matter of fact, such a resource to manage the whole world is no longer available on planet Earth. You need to understand that a resource is not money. A resource is a set of opportunities for carrying out one’s agenda and achieving the set results. Time is a resource – the most valuable, because it is not renewed. Information is a resource. Money is not interesting, because you turn on the printing house – and with the help of household magic you get as many beautiful pieces of paper as you want.
So, the US no longer has a resource. There is no real financial and economic model that works, there is no social model to exercise hegemony. You will say – let’s invent, create. Good. But let’s remember that we have run out of the main and non – renewable resource – time. So the changes will not work – there is no time.
It is possible to carry out a soft planned landing. You can push with the last of your strength, sowing death and destruction on the planet – the result is the same – to find yourself sitting on the floor. In the first case, it is completely without injuries and bruises, in the second – injured and with broken furniture. It seems to me, that the institutional Biden chose the first option. Therefore – negotiations with Putin. Other groups in the US administration see the situation differently. There is a struggle going on. I’m not sure that Biden is losing ground. Maybe he is weak now because he is gaining positions, that is, he has not gained strength, but he is gaining it. This is also an option.
To what level the US will shrink is the main question. It is almost impossible to calculate. There is not all the necessary data for this, there is no real model in which this data needs to be shoved, there is no necessary number of experts with the necessary qualifications, there are no computational capabilities. Therefore, we will observe during the experiment.
But I think, that all of North America will be under the United States, perhaps a single enlarged country, there will also be Australia and New Zealand, part of South America. This is a very rough model. Other territories of influence of the United States at the present time will be torn apart after some time between other centers of power that are gaining their power.
Best regards
Baora Tandash
Very well written and interesting article, Saker. I usually have not much patience for long texts, but this one’s got me.
I wonder how many empires in history peacefully soft-landed into their new status of normal country before exhausting all of their arsenal. I’d say none, but I don’t know. Also, given the Chinese expansion, how much “normal” the US will be required to be as to become a normal country? Will it accept it? My humble opinion is: I don’t think so. MAGA was a good and peaceful solution to save face while not giving up, a resilient one that accepted America was no longer great. First step to solve problems is recognizing them.
“I wonder how many empires in history peacefully soft-landed into their new status of normal country before exhausting all of their arsenal.”
The British did.
OK they kept the intelligence agencies and the money laundering centres but they did turn over their empire (to the US) pretty quickly.
“I wonder how many empires in history peacefully soft-landed into their new status of normal country before exhausting all of their arsenal.”
The British did.
******
If you take the view that WW1 and WW2 were primarily attempts to hang on to the empire then this statement is not correct.
Even if you don’t accept this the British still caused millions of deaths in the process of formally letting go of the empire.
“OK they kept the intelligence agencies and the money laundering centres but they did turn over their empire (to the US) pretty quickly.”
Did they though, or was that just the illusion? The Zionists had massive influence in Britain, and that influence continued on in the USA upon the British Empire’s decline. It could be seen as a rider changing (stalking) horses mid race.
”I wonder how many empires in history peacefully soft-landed into their new status of normal country before exhausting all of their arsenal.”
The Soviet Empire went very peacefully. But that did, not very surprisingly, only convince the US Empire that murder and mayhem everywhere could be put into action as was its intention all along.
Interesting examples, Serbian Girl and Nussiminen.
In my little knowledge, I see some differences. The Soviet Union was economically exhausted and politically/culturally demonized for decades. It didn’t have a propaganda machinery neither masses of the world population wishing to live the communist lifestyle. So I think it didn’t stand a chance of resisting.
Regarding the UK, I think they started to give up on its imperial ambitions long before the second world war. Kind of abandoned the competition before the nuclear era.
The US, on the other hand, still owns the propaganda machinery, most of the world sympathy, no matter the crimes it commits, a population accustomed to certain standard of living, etc. I think they have reasons to choose to resist to the very end. I don’t see them giving up that easily knowing sooner or later China will knock on their door. Perhaps a conventional war would settle the matter, but then, would they resist the temptation of going nuclear? That’s why I think they’re not likely to go peacefully. Hopefully I’m wrong.
@Merca
”I don’t see them giving up that easily knowing sooner or later China will knock on their door. Perhaps a conventional war would settle the matter, but then, would they resist the temptation of going nuclear?”
A very significant actor, especially when it comes to the accelerating rot and decomposition of US society, is the beloved, honourable philanthropist George Soros. Unlike the garbage passing for US Presidents and their domestic mass base, Soros has the financial muscle and determined focus to actually take down the US — entirely by stealth. In his ”shithole country’, his Jewishness serves as a guarantor of untouchability. Clearly, the US is rife with insane violence and crime, but Soros is perfectly safe there and, needless to say, he knows it.
Let’s be fair to him: Soros really did try his best to subvert Russia and China but got resoundingly booted out. So he came to the highly perceptive conclusion that colour revolutions might work like a charm right at home. By the looks of it, he is ’quite successful’. As long as he keeps slandering Russia and China every once in a while, he can continue his wrecking business. Soros is of course no Russian or Chinese mole, but he certainly does not worship America or its Exceptional, Indispensable people either. His tribe is what counts.
“The US … still owns … most of the world sympathy” Many polls show this is not true. The clearest polls are the elections which have brought in governments where Washington supported the other side. Chile, Bolivia and Cuba certainly. In Brazil and Peru the machinations were obvious and pro-US stooges were bribed in. In the Muslim world, the US faces uniform hostility because of it’s support for Israel, and various opinion polls over the last 10 years show this. Sub-Sahara Africa doesn’t have hostility for the US, but China has acquired friends because they help with infrastructure, medicine and infrastructure. It’s easier to list the friends of the US. That would be the majority of the EU – but with increasing opposition. Also India (but not Pakistan), Japan, Australia and South Korea. Also Columbia and Panama. But not Mexico after Obrador’s election. In many nations, support for the US is slipping away for reasons that would be very difficult to change, but you have to see the details to recognize it.
“It’s easier to list the friends of the US. That would be the majority of the EU – but with increasing opposition.”
I’m afraid the majority of the EU has become a colony of flatline deluded bugs, worshipping ANZ propaganda through netflix and disney, trying and failing to fill their narcissistic existence, totally disconnected from the geopolitical reality and embracing “transhuman” degeneracy into oblivion.
A return to the first centuries of the Middle Ages where Europe was largey irrelevant for history.
Many analysts in the West, when talking about PRC, say, often ask, ‘Can China rise peacefully.’ I would venture that the question ought to be phrased, ‘Can the US decline peacefully?’
I’m a political realist and I believe the Hegemon is going to fight tooth and nail to maintain the status quo. It is, after all, quite a nice position to be in — having lapdogs, err, I mean allies, at your beck and call, bending over backwards to get into your good books; swatting down recalcitrant nations with your economic and military might; being the international lawmaker, the sheriff; having things your way; — it’s great!
Unfortunately for the Hegemon however, its capacity to maintain the hegemony is decreasing — whether it realises it or not — by the day and new powers are rising; and their rise seems unstoppable. So what is the Hegemon to do?
It’s going to do its darndest to stop the rise of these powers, obviously. It’s going to subvert the pillars of their national powers — derail their plans, damage their economies, sow discord among their people and their friends, convince their population of the hegemon being a force for good and the futility of resisting its will. And it will try to sow doubt in the leaders of these rising powers as to the achievability of their aspirations.
So, to answer the Saker’s question, I don’t think the US has begun its ‘great retreat’ but it has started some time ago on its journey to becoming the ‘Sick Man of the West.’
Thank you for the excellent analysis.
What the Russians and the Chinese want is to put an end to mercantilism and financial plundering and return to a productive capitalism based on scientific progress. On this blog Mr. Ehret has informed us in a masterly way that this could have happened at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century by developing the emerging railroads through British Columbia to the Bering Strait to connect with the Trans-Siberian. This project is back on track. It is the belt and road initiative led by China in collaboration with many countries.
Relinquishing the burden of Ukraine to Germany could be an unexpected gift. In order to cope, the Germans will have to open up to the belt and road initiative, which will link Europe not to China but to Russia, offering the only possible opportunity for planetary balance in the long term.
The psychology of these people tells us that they do not give up. They retreat while continuing to fight with everything they have with the hope of recovering. Their fights will be in their image confused in all areas of hybrid warfare: communication, false flags, massive use of proxies, sowing chaos, color revolution, etc… Their goal is to collapse civilization on a global scale and then propose their great reset. It seems that it has already failed. We will have more woke dreams and green delusions which will accentuate and make their decline irreversible.
In this context the big question is: Are they able to restore the instruments of their powers as before? They no longer have the necessary industrial base and the necessary scientists and engineers. Their decline is irreversible and will follow the slow erosion of the US $.
The next steps?
– Financial collapse and its consequences. They know this and may try a last strategic offensive before. Because afterwards the internal chaos will be too great.
– Is a Putin-like revival of the USA possible? In any case they have no friends but vassals. If they succeed, it will be in a multipolar world, they will not be able to restore their global dominance.
Those who are in the greatest danger at the moment are the peoples of Zone A and their neighbors in South and Central America and the Caribbean. They are the only ones within reach of their declining strength.
And let’s not forget the hybrid offensives of China in the financial, industrial and commercial fields supported by their brand new military strength supported by the extraordinary military strength of Russia.
I believe that any analysis has to start with who actually controls the action. This is not the US; it is a small, rogue state in the Middle East.
From this state’s point of view, it has accomplished virtually all of its objectives: (1) Virtually all of the ex-Soviet mini-states (and Warsaw Pact) of import have been turned against Russia or are in chaos. Only Belarus is left, aside from the ‘stans. Russia has been ‘compacted’ as far as it will go without fighting. (2) Every Middle Eastern state which could be militarily hostile to the small, rogue state has been co-opted or ruined. Syria is the latest example. None of those states could mount a significant attack for decades. Mission accomplished. (3) The Afghanistan/Pakistan area has been left in chaos. This is a victory for the small, rogue state; nothing to fear from there. (4) The clamp-downs from the pandemic have left the world in chaos and systemic weakness, to include Iran.
The US has been re-trenching its military, but I believe it is a strategic withdrawal to free and concentrate those forces. There is much animosity being displayed toward China, but that seems like a delaying game. The small, rogue state really has no beef with China.
That leaves Iran. The small, rogue state really has a beef with Iran, so I suspect that will be the next marching-orders for the US. Saker’s scenario on how the US will be drawn-in is probably valid. I would only add that an impressive False Flag – implicating the Iranians – could also be the start of the anti-Iran campaign.
If you follow the “who benefits” line (and knowing who really benefits), it is pretty clear where the next action will be…
Thank You Mr Saker!
Well written and well thought, and honest.
A View> When Bushie#41 double-crossed Gorbie and the USSR entered a dissolution crises the nascent internal contradictions of the US were released, and naturally the empire of the west succumbed to vice and destroyed it’s small store of remaining virtue. In an animal this may be called ketosis, that’s the body devouring itself, and it stinks, a lot. Absent virtue it’s not possible to prevail in conflict, as vice then creates fools, mad fools. Might win a few skirmishes, but defeat becomes inevitable.
Speak of vice? Look! Look at the streets and the sodomite campaign and the grifter fake “Mr 10%” touted as winning a massive election… Think about the lies…vice is now fully embraced by the icy cold hands – I am thinking of Bulgakov’s Master and Margareta, and the terror, symmetry is evidently a natural process, first USSR, now USA, God plays no favorite. Elections now offer a choice of “confidence men”, crooks…BTW the confidence man ( melville ) is pithy critique of US, as is Gustave de Beaumont’s 1835 work, Marie, or Slavery in the United States, but vice was disputed by virtue, until it was released by the discontinuation of USSR…after that buggery everywhere in West, literally and figuratively, and well slathered with dope of every sort.
It turns out like MacBeth, just now the insane rulers cry “hang those who speak of fear!”…everybody knows that the Phoenix rises from ashes, not from the flame.
The Civilizational States in Zone B would be unwise (and they are wise) to allow the infernal gadgets and materials in Zone A to be released… This implies that there will be “foreign interference”…just as there has always been. One can imagine a regional governor unable to get federal help calling on Zone B for help.
I have heard an expat American say the only way he’ll come again to the US is in a Russian APC, seems crazy…but who expected the Russian Fleet in San Francisco and New York? (They were there).
(I too have a question for our host, I wonder what he’s trying to decide. And I have a hunch about it. I suppose he’ll let us know, in the fullness of time. I am not asking him, just pointing out that he went to a lot of trouble to ask a question, so he’s very interested in the answer.)
Thanks again Mr S! A difficult question indeed!
Great piece! It’s an accidental, yet profound evidence already of the Empire’s terminal prolapse to look at Saker’s submission here on August 6th and compare it to what was posted on August 20th last year (by another author) in the form of a pitch-black, doom and gloom, everything-is-lost take on the Empire’s pathetic, rapidly vanquished stunt in Belarus. What was truly mind-boggling was the groundswell of approval it elicited in the comments. Myself, Auslander, Larchmonter445, and some scattered anonymous commenters were the only ones who rejected this entirely unfounded piece of utter defeatism.
Against this background, I shall now address Saker’s concluding questions.
Q: Do you think that the US is currently in a “contraction phase”?
A: Yes, absolutely. If anything, presentday US, domestically as well as internationally, is highly reminiscent of 20th century Imperial Russia under Nicholas II. To wit: Both countries blessed by having a weak, inept, and grossly incompetent Head of State accompanied by huge, wasteful military spending to prop up a disintegrating, reviled empire. To further underline the predicament of today’s US, a conspicuous difference is that 20th century Imperial Russia was undergoing rapid industrialization. Another most crucial difference is that Pindos just don’t have a clue as to how to build a new society on the ashes of the old (except by genocide, that is), being accustomed to imperial loot as they are. They would benefit immensely from being ruled as outright colonial subjects by the Axis of Resistance, putting them to useful work in the countries they have oppressed and terrorized to their hearts’ content.
Q: Do you believe that this is a short-term only phenomenon, or will this retreat continue and, if yes, how far?
A: Of course it will continue. It’s a matter of all-encompassing rot, decay, and — last but not least — having, in hindsight, botched the golden opportunity back in 1989 – 1991 to smash Russia and China once and for all. Now there are very able leaderships in place not just in these two countries but in several other countries as well, and they are ditching the US Empire. The latter’s faithful stooges are the squalid other parts of the Collective West accompanied by illustrious manure such as Ukraine, Poland, Baltics, India, and Brazil. At present, the only fairly dexterous ruler in the camp of global reaction is Turkey’s Erdogan, but that is evidently too little, too late. He is even creating strife and tensions in the Collective West.
The retreat will continue either until the Empire is vanquished completely or some neocons decide Planet Earth is not worth saving — including themselves.
Finally someone gets around to mentioning the fact that ‘space is the new frontier’ altough its barely a month since two grandads ‘explored’ it with a view to relocating Earthlings before the rot becomes overwhelming. This plan has been in the works since the nineties, if not earlier. See ‘Soylent Green’ and ‘Exodus’, two preminiscient films among others.
Russia/China are gearing up to do space exploration correctly, as far as I can see. Infrastructure as a baby step. The US is obsessed with building huge, delicate observational (or war!) machines at the bottom of the well. China is thinking ‘lunar ingot pooper’ while US thinks ‘SPACE MARINES!’ I’m just now seeing headlines of ‘new’ ideas for power generation/transmission that were all suggested by O’Neill and friends in the 1970s.
I think that “Biden” is looking to make a two-pronged assault on Russia and China in the fall. Remember that back in May, Biden publicly gave the intelligence agencies 90 days to determine the origin of Covid. 90 days will have passed in late August. I believe that “Biden” will formally accuse China of leaking Covid from a laboratory and will engage in a global propaganda crusade designed to ruin China’s export economy. I believe the next Duma elections are in September. I have heard that the US/EU don’t plan to recognize the elections, and they are undoubtedly planning more provocations with the bitcoin-funded “democratic” opposition.
Actually it is Putin that threw in the towel by joining Biden and the west in the World Economic Forum’s future vision of “The Great Reset”. That is what Biden wanted to talk about to Putin.
In their vision a reset is necessary, not because of climate change (that is the excuse), but because of the trillions of debt bomb which they want to denotate as if demolishing an old building and replacing it with something better — “Build Back Better”. The financial and technocratic elite want to be in control of this change of system like when they financed fascism in pre-ww2 Europe to replace the failed system destroyed by bankers in the roaring twenties.
If Putin ”threw in the towel”, what then is the point of the Zionazis’ intention (highlighted in the post by Donbass Lives Matter above) not to recognize the Russian parliamentary elections? Have they had a change of heart with regard to Vladimir Putin’s party United Russia or do they believe — meaning fear — that the Russians have abandoned it?
Amusing this Putin-bashing with a ’progressive’ tint.
“Actually it is Putin that threw in the towel by joining Biden and the west in the World Economic Forum’s future vision of “The Great Reset”. That is what Biden wanted to talk about to Putin.”
First I wanted to ignore this, but rather I’d want to invite any reader here to get informed at what Putin really said at the WEF cult in Davos:
https://www.unz.com/mwhitney/putin-blasts-w-e-f-honchos-at-davos-gabfest/
Does that read like throwing a towel? My interpretation is more that he stack a knife into the table, and told the ‘honchos’ to stuff their plans into where the sun doesn’t shine.
Cheers, Rob
Read Putin’s words at the UN GA: he is supporting UN Agenda 2030
And because of that, United Russia’s upcoming victory in the September elections is not going to be recognized?
On a serious note, this is just an instance showing how Western ’progressives’ forever line up behind imperialist and fascist reaction when it comes to countries, peoples, and leaders that need to be cowed. Western ’progressives’ know where the red line is.
The big difference between Russia and the USA is that Russians play chess while Americans play Russian roulette. They don’t call us the AngloZIONIST Empire for nothing, Saker. Uncle Shmuel is first and foremost a risk-taker. He knows that when his back is up against the wall, the ultimate way out is to start WWIII. Russians go to war because it makes sense. Zionists go to war because it is their crazy end-times eschatology that there will be a “war to end all wars” that will bring on the Apocalypse.
Remember, Saker, Zionism is an apocalyptic death cult. What Israel calls the Samson Option is not just the last resort, but their ultimate goal. What jumps out at me most about Zionists is their supremacism, the notion that they are “chosen” by God to range around the planet, displacing the indigenous, stealing their land and resources, and eventually ending human history in an apocalyptic final battle between “good” (them) and “evil” (everyone else).
In the USA, this is called Manifest Destiny. American journalist John O’Sullivan wrote in 1845 that it was “our manifest destiny to overspread and to possess the whole of the continent which Providence has given us for the development of the great experiment of liberty and federated self-government entrusted to us.” This is, of course, total BS because what Europeans really engaged in on this continent was domination and exploitation of the indigenous, stealing their land and resources.
This is exactly what the European Ashkenazim are doing now in Palestine. This is why both Israel and the USA have no real permanent borders like any “normal” nation has. Ever expanding, ever on the make, the Empire looks to WWIII as the fulfillment of God’s plan for humanity. If you don’t believe this is true, just have any Native American or Palestinian explain it to you.
Yes, it is a big retreat!
And for various reasons explained in your text and comments. But, most importantly, for the deep and profound loss of S&T (Science and Technology) game (remember “Trump’s” opposition to “made in China 2025).
Near-term advancements in AI, Robotics, Materials, Energy, Space, Engineering (e.g. 3D printing and similar) can, with relative ease, be seen as fixing near-term problems (imagine, as an example, robots growing food in Z dimension – going underground, supported by artificial lights and locally produced energy).
But what cannot be done near-term are advanced improvements in these technologies and processes. Take something close to your profession: materials used for the engines for military airplanes, space rockets, hypersonic weapons etc – a good post-graduate student can now design, inside computer simulation, a superior vector-engine fighter aircraft if the hardest bits are taken for granted: materials with their strengths, durability and specific weights, seals and pumps for oxygen-rich rocket engines, spread-spectrum radio techniques, etc. (just look at SpaceX problems with the oxygen-rich engines going up in flames, while using decades old Russian/Soviet technology ideas as a starting point).
Or take nuclear energy, fusion research, the speed of Chinese space exploration and Russians that had decades ago *and put it on hold) what both China and US are struggling now …
While all this is happening in geo-political environment where others (appearing hostile or not) are watching and waiting, happy to change allegiances overnight.
The Empire has a history of establishing then supporting totalitarian regimes in foreign lands. Could this change in tactics not be due to our rulers having their eyes on the biggest prize of all: authoritarian governments throughout the western world? If they really believe this is achievable, wouldn’t they throw all their resources at this goal? Once the home front is under complete control then they can pivot back to conquering the world.
The flip side is they fear completely losing control and power at home and are forced to focus on the home front simply to maintain what they have.
lost retreating empires?
Given the enormous gushing over the China Miracle I did a kind of experiment by looking at all the labels of manufacture on everything I come across in my daily life and work. I in fact work in the gas sector a manufacturing plant here in Western Canada where we build compressors and what I see and experience is telling. Just the other day I had to pick up sandblast and looking at the label Made in China I blew up in anger!? Even this sh%^t comes from China I said to the workers loading the truck. This is Canada I yelled with thousands of mountains and sand hills etc and we get this sh%&T from China? Homelessness is growing out side the front door of my place of residence meanwhile the Chinese come here and buy up homes for 100,000 plus over asking? Seriously this s^&T is really getting under my skin bigtime and you know what when China gets affluent like America and Canada did and then start building their disneylands and other pleasure palaces China will go into the same sh$%t and then who will they turn to to exploit the Afghans!?!?!?!
That 2 cents an hour sure went a long way, who’s fooling who here?
I think the imperialists had no other choice but to begin a retreat. One must not belittle the effect of the popular and armed resistance in all the countries the USA is currently emmeshed in. That is the big factor. That is the real strategical reason. The generals had no other choice really, because a complete and shameful defeat was not anyways a desirable result, allthought it could well be the outcome, if the USA troops remain there longer as sitting ducks.
Thanks for all your quality information!
Manuel
retreat?
Sandblast? but when even food ie. groceries in the produce aisle? has to be imported from China one has to stop really stop moving around in ones self deception and buying sh%^t and reflect when even food has to be imported from China than surely the writing is on the wall bigtime? I think I’ll take a trip to Disneyland for one last trip down memory lane on a roller coaster in giddy joy and watch the great Empire come tumbling down!!??
What did someone else say about a mushroom cloud being not a horror but a relief?
“What did someone else say about a mushroom cloud being not a horror but a relief?”
Well, Gerry, there is this crazy dude, US Christian Zionist Pastor John Hagee, who said something like that. A nuclear confrontation between America and Iran, which he says is foretold in the Book of Jeremiah, will not lead to the end of the world, but rather to “God’s renewal of the Garden of Eden.”
He goes on to say, “When Jesus Christ comes back, he’s not going to ask the ACLU if it’s alright to pray, he’s not going to ask the churches if they can ordain pedophile bishops and priests, he’s not going to ask if it’s all right to put the Ten Commandments in the statehouses, he’s not going to endorse abortion, he’s going to run the world by the word of God and the world will never end. It’s going to become a Garden of Eden, and Christ is going to rule it.”
So, WWIII? Bring it on. It will be Heaven on Earth. Woohoo, can’t wait!
Tommy, tommy keep reading Jonny boy I could care less what hagee has to say.
Coming soon for him will be the Doh moment of Simpson fame.
In the mean time if I do need any info onnhagee I’ll look you up.
Cheers
50 million US Christian Zionists would say you’re wrong, Gerry. Is it maybe an exaggeration to say that every single one of them voted for Trump in the last election? I don’t think so.
When does the gangsters who rules in US understand that USA don’t have enough people and money to impose their politics on the rest of the world? The petrodollar is dying and what then? Do they have any backup-plans for USA after the petrodollar collapse? And the big question is, Does people in USA understand the situation or are they to brainwashed by media and the politicians?
@Benny
”And the big question is, Do people in USA understand the situation or are they to brainwashed by media and the politicians?”
Both yes and no. They certainly do understand, instinctively at least, that their wasteful, parasitic lifestyles are conditioned on parasitic misappropriation of other peoples’ natural resources, land, and labour output. That explains why the 99% in the US dearly yearn for all the violence, repression, and global lawlessness they vote for and more. But they have zero understanding about the ongoing developmentas due to their total disinterest in learning anything of substance about the world. That’s what being exceptional and indispensable means in practice: Militant parasitism and addiction to fascist demagoguery whatever its source — politicians, media, or debased US ”culture”.
Saker,
The USA is indeed in a contraction phase. However, this is just a temporary changeover period – the Zionist-capitalist Deep State is relocating it’s ‘might’ to Pacific to counter China. Russia would be harassed using the old lapdog – Sunni fundamentalists (led by Erdogan).
Zionist-capitalists clique need not bother anything and anybody as long as Dollar remains globally accepted reserve currency…. They can print as much as required.
There is simply no option for the Resistance camp except preparation… Prepare for the worst… Invest in technology … Improve economy… Improve military prowess…
Don’t forget what this «print as much as required» brings: it brings the rot from within. Capitalism cannot survive this practice, if this continuous fake money production goes on long enough and the capitalist class and their central bankers, seem to be ok with that. They feast, as if there is no tomorrow, burrowing from the future, from their children and grand-children…
Capitalism at least in it’s imperialist mode, is unsustainable NOW. Now, you have lots of people aware. Now you have technologies that can neutralize «enemies», but can also be used by them, which are cheap and easy to master (drones, computers, cell-phones, etc.etc) and availiable.
Control of society is a monstrous but also utopic (dystopic) dream of some rulers of today.
Don’t forget what this «print as much as required» brings: it brings the rot from within. Capitalism cannot survive this practice
Printing of fiat money brings monetary chaos, that’s a proven fact. But out of 193 UN member countries, 192 would face such devastation of monetary system. The USA won’t face the music in near future – because $ is the global reserve currency.
In the long run, say decade of 2030’s, the USA Deep State may find itself in rough weather, provided China plays its ‘manufacturing and 5G’ cards and Russia plays its ‘energy and arms’ cards prudently to deny the USA substantial space in Asia-Europe-Africa-South America thereby converting recently planned (approx) 5 trillion $ investment by Biden government into non-performing… But for that to happen BRI and Eurasian Economic initiatives should continue unhindered.
“My strictly personal guess is that there is some very serious infighting currently taking place inside the US ruling class. Furthermore, that serious infighting is not about core principles or even strategy – it is a dispute over tactics only.”
Dear Saker,
Your guess would be absolute truth if US ruling class is homogenous group.
It was once, not anymore.
Elite that lead (or followed) US ascend into dominance died off at end of last century. Leaving theirs merry widows and throwes of spoiled offsprings with empire they could not possibly govern.
Their problem is of biological nature. Elites little castle is heavily overpopulated by now. Far too many of them around round table – so few chairs.
Schizophrenic moves in foreign policy are result of fact that far too many heads of similar size makes decissions.
And, most imortant, every single one wants to be the ONLY ONE. Such situation never ended well before.
This is the main factor that will determine fate of Anglo saxon empire, not money supply or military strength.
Not to mention winning.
The US is in retreat and the petrodollar is most definitely dying.
Banks are now forced to introduce Net Stable Funding Ratios NSFRs as part of the Basel III banking regulations. These regulations were required & agreed at the G20 following the 2007/ 2008 banking crisis. This will curtail the US ability to finance their wars.
It is no coincidence that immediately following the introduction of these regulations that the US was forced to abandon their extremely costly occupation of Afghanistan.
As we move forward, we will probably see a mix of gold and cryptocurrencies take over a greater role.
The fifty year window (1971 end of Bretton Woods -2021 start of Basel III) when the US had free reign to finance any war they wanted is coming to an end.
Before anybody starts celebrating, I just want to point out that according to eschatological end-times prophecies of Sheik Hosein, Armageddon will be waged as the world transitions to a gold standard…
“Armageddon will be waged as the world transitions to a gold standard…”
One does not have to be prophet to realise that Empire wont give-up fiat world currency privilege without epic fight.
Yes but nobody knew about the petrodollsr hegemony 1400 years ago.
That is why they need to “reset” the system, for that they need Russia on board, that is what Biden wanted to talk about with Putin. I think Putin accepted Biden’s proposal to join the WEF’s Great Reset.
”I think Putin accepted Biden’s proposal to join the WEF’s Great Reset.”
Putin is a statesman; Biden is a vegetable. I think Putin let it be known. That is why Western imperialism’s tender, loving care for all things Russian continues unabated.
“That is why they need to “reset” the system,”
Wishfull thinking. Just like in computer analogy, hard, soft, or any reset wont reboot the system.
It has hardware failure.
This is a repeat of your post above.
Please see my answer to that, imho this assumption is not congruent with reality.
Cheers, Rob
Serbian Girl, you know something about finances, do you think we will see deflation (depression) if credit is being tightened as you suggest is happening?
I dont know how much tightening he’s talking about, the meat of basil III was to end ETF’s in particular the precious metals, it doesnt take effect here in the states until 1-1-2022 but lead up could cause a number of speculative gambles to the already questionable industry of finance.
Basel III will be implemented over several years. It started this past June. It takes aim at entire derivatives market which is valued at 5 -10 x World GDP and all denominated in USD.
Gold is only a very small part of this.
Difficult to say what, if any, short term effect will be seen by ordinary people.
As for the reset, not really sure what its about.
World Economic Forum’s vision of the “Great Reset” is about imposing an austerity upon the sheeple while replacing their jobs by AI automation (4th industrial revolution), this all under the guise of saving the planet (green revolution). As Prince Charles has said Covid-19 provided a “window of opportunity” to reset the economy for a more “sustainable and inclusive future”.
As the US historian, William Appleman Williams once said: “Empire is a Way of Life” for the United States of America.
Empire is part of the political and cultural DNA of America, as the USA was spawned as a Anglo/European colonizer nation by the British Empire.
So is America retreating from its ambitions for US Full Spectrum Dominance of the planet?
Sure–just as much as Satan himself will accept baby Jesus as his Lord and Savior.
Global Manifest Destiny is America’s demonic destiny!
I can only compare the mood of the US public in, say, 2003 and today.
Then there was widespread desire to “extend democracy to the world”. When I would ask how many lives this would be worth, the answer was always in the tens or at least thousands of young American lives. Iraq and the entire Middle East needed to be pacified and we would do what it takes to ensure this happened. And Iran would be next.
Today, if you bring up the subject, there is a complete lack of enthusiasm or even understanding. “Bring democracy to the Middle East? Shouldn’t we start in Trumpland (for Democracts) or in the Blue states (for Republicans). Questions about responses to the “threat from Al-Qaeda” also bring the same blank look of utter incomprehension.
So yeah, the ordinary people of this country have lost the will to maintain let alone extend the Empire abroad. We’re done…
Thank God, when does the healing begin??
They might be getting their forces out of harms way for the (planned?) military confrontation in the middle east or broader. This is too coordinated and abrupt for it not to be well planned with a defined goal in mind. Vlad
I think the described retreat of the Empire is just a change in approach to the same goal of world dominance. So “short-term” and “regroup, focus, redesign”, IMHO.
I suspect the new strategy in the Empire is “the Great Decoupling”. This means that the West wants to encircle and cordon off those countries they do not manage to control or destroy. I could imagine the following:
General approach:
The Empire wants to destroy all economic and diplomatic relations between Russia and the West. I suspect this to be medium-term or even short-term goal.
The Empire also wants to hamper and diminish economic relations between China and the rest of the World. But this “decoupling from China”, is a more difficult task and therefore a more long-term goal.
At home and in all countries under influence the Empire is currently introducing a totalitarian system of control. It is also in the process of consolidating most economic and political power at the top of the pyramid, i.e. at the oligarchs, the big banks and investment portfolios and (as an appendix) the big corporations. The totalitarian control system will include a “Covid-pass” or “Digital ID 2020” access-control system which makes it possible to restrict international travel.
The West may require “booster” shots with Western vaccines. This would make it possible to block access to Western countries and countries under control via vaccine requirements.
Russia:
The West will continue to expel Russian diplomats and damage diplomatic relations.
The West may not recognize the Russian elections and therefore undermine the possibility to maintain normal diplomatic relations.
If the Empire can develop a Russian Guaido (medium-term) they even might push Western countries to not recognize the official Russian government at some point in the future.
The Empire may also try to organize the ousting of Russia from international organizations, like the Council of Europe or the OSCE to diminish its international influence and standing.
The Empire will continue to create incidents blamed on Russia to raise the demands for further sanctions. Such sanctions can lead to financial blockages and payment blockages and in return to economic blockages, including blockages in the gas sector.
The West will continue military provocation and the incitements of conflicts at Russia’s borders. It will try to intimidate and provoke Russia by encircling it with missile/anti-missile sites and ships. I suspect this serves to “soften up” Russia, i.e. it is a measure to threaten Russia with threats, that is to keep it mentally occupied and worried of a disastrous conflict.
The West will continue to introduce censorship and try to block and harm Russian media. This will not change the fact that a significant part of the population in the West uses such information via the Internet. But demonizing Russian media an labelling them as “disinformation” will make all information given by Russian media unusable in all “official” or “mainstream” discourses. Persons with alternative views will not be allowed in such discourses and will be kept at the fringes.
The West may use “Carbon reduction” policies to erect non-tariff trade obstacles against Russian products.
All in all I expect a sort of continuing full spectrum low to medium level attack on all Russian relations with other countries, particular with the Western countries. I reckon this approach would only change if the West sees a possibility to gain control over parts of Russian politics.
This type of cordoning off politics will push Russia into Eurasia and into further cooperation with China. But this is already a fait accompli and it is the price the Empire is willing to pay to maintain full control over the rest of Europe.
Ukraine:
Ukraine will be played as before. Unless the Ukrainian people become fed up with their terrible economic situation and turn to Russia and against the West they will remain a relatively cheap trouble maker on Russia’s border. Once the country is completely sold out to Western corporations and the Empire feels that the Ukraine is fully secured they may be used for production with cheap labor.
China:
Regarding China I expect that the Empire will try to counter China’s economic advance by creating political tensions and using their control and influence over regional governments and the media.
The Empire will try to move industrial production of goods for Western corporations from China to other Asian countries and will try to create political tensions and enmity between China and those countries where the production has moved to.
The Empire may try to create trade and traffic obstacles between China and such countries.
The Empire will continue to peddle atrocity propaganda against China and use propaganda to defame China’s political system (while at the same time trying to emulate many of China’s top-down economic measures at home).
As a sort of “nuclear option” the Empire might try to pin “Covid-19” on China, but this would most likely be a too difficult task, as it would only be working for the “official discourse” and then likely only in some Western countries.
Extreme elements of the Empire might try to use biological warfare against the Chinese economy, particularly the food industry. It seems likely such measures have been used in the past. But future attacks like this could raise too much suspicion. On the other hand: how could China react to such events with high deniability and uncertainty? Other covert means like weather modification are certainly researched by the Empire but those are basically unknowns.
Iran:
Iran will be continuously pressured on all fronts: finance, economy, military. Nothing will change here. The nuclear accord is dead and will only be used to try to subvert parts of Iranian society, and to dangle a carrot in front of the Iranians’ noses.
Central Asia, Indian Ocean:
I thinks the US had to withdraw from Afghanistan because their stay was no longer viable in the sense that the return of investment was too low.
The Empire will now concentrate to hamper the access of China to the Indian ocean by interfering in Pakistan and Myanmar. And they will continue to try to position India against China.
Middle East:
Syria will continue to bleed, to be starved. Ditto for Yemen
Where the Empire is in somewhat of a tough spot is in Iraq. I am not an expert but the situation seems untenable in the long run. And I do not know it the Empire has the means to control the Iraqi political system. Thus once they are forced to leave Iraq this could lead to a significant change of the power setup in the region.
Turkey is a wild card in this scenario.
Conclusion:
I do not at all expect the Empire to give up and let the US turn into a normal country. That would be a defeat and a politically very dangerous move on the part of the “elites”, i.e. the oligarchs and the financial interest groups.
I am not saying that the Empire has a winning strategy for the current struggle. I assume China currently offers a better development model to the developing countries. Also it is not said that the people in the West will accept the new controlled “pandemics and climate change” economy à la “You will own nothing and be happy” and the totalitarian control associated with it.
But the Empire may have a plan with which they hope to draw the situation out and hope for new developments. Also what is their alternative? Cave in? They just won’t.
”If the Empire can develop a Russian Guaido (medium-term) they even might push Western countries to not recognize the official Russian government at some point in the future.”
Resounding flop. Navalny was evidently the best they could come up with.
Moreover:
”Ukraine” is depopulating fast. Russia can annex it in due time at the risk of facing some ”terrific” sanctions.
Iran is safe thanks to its deepening cooperation with China.
Continental US is crumbling, literally.
The choice facing the ruling Western kakistocracy is either surrender or destroy the planet utterly. I give the West 10 more years at most before the choice is done.
@PaulSch
IMO, Russia’s weak point is the economic hardships that common people face. Now that the military threat to the Russian state is largely diminished due to Russia’s military modernization, they should put their full strength on a China – style poverty reduction initiative. However, pro-liberal, Western-worshipping bureaucracy has to be removed in order to implement such measures. At the same time, Russia has to further reduce its reliance on energy exports to Europe and increase trade with other parts of the world, especially Global South.
I don’t think that military provocations or threats would work on Russia because Russians are pretty much used to it now and it shows that the provocateurs don’t actually have courage to take actions. Besides, such provocations also strengthen Putin’s position.
With regards to China, they entered a regional economic cooperative partnership with a number of countries in SE and East Asia last year. China has heavily invested in these countries. On the other hand, the US tries to lure these countries to its camp and make them give up the trade ties with China. Such tactics are doomed to fail because the US can’t offer anything tangible, i.e. something that would be of economic value such as investments. Those SE and East Asian nations have sizable ethnic Chinese populations and they don’t wish to entirely decouple from China in any means. What they seek is some balance of power. The US may be able to accomplish it to a certain degree but certainly, they won’t be able to throw a spanner in the economic and trade ties that SE and East Asian nations have with China.
As usual very insightful, Sir. As seen The British Deep State created Empire Rothschilds which was misleadingly labeled the British Empire. One of the leaders of this Empire was German educated was Alfred Milner aka Viscount Milner. Also, it was the Rothchilds who profited immensely because of the Battle of Waterloo. Remember, the Bank of England is or was owned by Rothchilds and their global trajectory remains until now.
At the end of WWII, FDR has conceived an America which not pursue Empire building but after his sudden death President Truman took over the American Gov’t and aborted FDR policies. Instead, the Brit Churchill a member of the Depp State persuaded Truman to go for Empire. A process that led to the unprovoked Nuclear destruction of the Japanese Empire.
This process of war mongering destroying smaller states globally continued as the US gov’t used the Bretton-Wood System to colonized the world together with the Federal Reserved system. It was the Western Corporations who created, funded and direct Hitler to destroy Russia. Germany, today remains a US vassal under Military Occupation among other nations in the world. For more on American foreign wars see William Blum book titled, “Killing Hope”
The voracious appetite of the Deep State also planned and succeeded in reducing the Quality of Life of Americans while at the same time creating a Police State in violation of its own Constitution. All these intrigues of the Deep State created many unresolved contradiction leading to the emergence of new powerful global powers who are more than able to resist America’s military attack.
These are China, Russia, Iran as mentioned but there are others who were allied to Western prowess who have break company being Turkey among others.
The US Dollar and its economy is in decline. The US is now the largest Debtor nation ever in the world; coinage have virtually no value.
It seem for these reasons the US Deep State who are really in charge must retreat from the global arena trying to hold on to what chips it can in the process. Chips, meaning allies. It is true we are in ‘dangerous times’ but the Americans Elitists of the Deep State may not want to breach the rule of Survival is the main focus of Humans.
Russia’s Putin already said any incoming Missiles targeting Russia will be interpreted as Nuclear and Russia will respond accordingly. China, seemingly is allied to Russia and may have access to Russian military technology the best in the world at this time.
Can the Quad being the US, Japan, Australia, South Korea and possibly India hemmed an economically powerful China. It seems doubtful as Japan would not like a repeat of WWII.
The other issue is that Eastern thinking is different from Euro/American thinking. Eastern thinkers seeks Harmony while Western seeks domination. In this ever changing world where the West is in decline and the apparent establishment of WEF Great Reset creating a modern serfdom – will they succeed. We wait as the members of the Zionist Deep State Israel survival is also at stake. Can the rise of the Persians be stopped short of war in the wider Mideast. And, it so what will be the price. It will be enormous for sure. The West has nothing to compete with the Russian Avangard among other that may be in secret.
It appears to be a chaos-induced strategic retreat to me at this point, with the possibility of total collapse (of sorts) to follow, the wild card being that the US as a nation state is considered useful, but ultimately disposable to the AZ’s. The main question being, where will the AZ shift their operations to once the US is discarded, or do they believe that as long as the US still has its nuclear and biowarfare arsenals largely intact, they can hang on for dear life in the northeastern corridors of power and simply cut the rest of the red states loose altogether?
That appears to be the current strategy, with chaos and near open rebellion hiding in plain site throughout most of the country and only the prosperous enclaves along the eastern corridors of power still remaining relatively normal. I think the coming Covid lockdowns and vaccine passport initiatives will tell the tale, as the red state people I know are not going to take that lying down.
All the overseas nonsense appears to be just so much puffery at this point to help Biden and his Merry Pranksters appear to be manly – in effect a MAGA campaign without the slogan. Always beware Democrats trying to appear tough. Ultimately, it’s about denial, which the US pols and populace have been in for quite some time. The Project for the New American Century hasn’t gone as planned whatsoever, and the time for effectively charting a new winning course of action is quickly running out.
I think the only viable option remaining is a pivot toward Russia of sorts, either real or feigned, and one last attempt to divide Russia and the Chinese. But absent Putin dying suddenly and no similarly like-minded and charismatic successor emerging quickly, that seems like a long shot indeed. More US domestic and international false flags and other assorted Black Ops skullduggery would seem to be the order of the day then, in an attempt to hide from one and from all the fact that the US is seriously flailing at this point and could well collapse on any given day.
Putin must be laughing his ass off (in private) at how Biden has to pivot, and pivot, and pivot, depending on which variation of Zionism steps up to drive us into WWIII. Unlike the Russians, our wars never make sense. Military analysts like the Saker waste a lot of time trying to figure out why the USA would choose to squander trillions and trillions of dollars on “forever” wars that have no relation whatsoever to legitimate national defense. We’ve bankrupted ourselves both financially and morally, for what?
Yes, the USA is seriously flailing at this point, sort of like the frog who lets the scorpion climb on its back to cross the river. As the scorpion stings the frog in mid-stream dooming them both, it can only reply “I couldn’t help it. It’s in my nature.” Netanyahu even warned us in 1990 that this would happen, “America is a golden calf, and we will suck it dry, chop it up, and sell it off piece by piece until there is nothing left but the world’s biggest welfare state that we will create and control.” How right he was. Likudniks in Israel or the crazy US Christian Zionists who support them, will do this to us again and again. This is what they do to nations they hate. They destroy them very slowly and make them suffer for refusing to be their slaves.
You have to wonder if what we are seeing is just a big kabuki show.
We have Putin and the oligarchs in Russia, top communist leaders in China and billionaires in the West including Japan. Are these not the real players. When the global reset comes will it not be these people against the vast majority of the world?
Gates and WEF run a little what if on a pandemic and then a few months later one originates in China. Does this not demonstrate that they are working together. Then Putin follows along with the Russian jab. Seems to me all the world wide powers that be are working in unison together.
The whole withdrawal out of Afghanistan, Iraq and else where is just a sideshow. Need to have the assets in place for the real show.
Be ready, there will a puff of smoke and then the curtain will be drawn back and the trap sprung!
My opinon? Inertia is probably what we are seeing on the surface. It is possible that the actual gear changes, so to speak, began in 2014. By 2018 in Syria, there was a serious re-evaluation of priorities by people who know better. However, the NeoCons were still undisputed in their position, even in private. After the tangos with Iran and the KSA getting skewered by the Houthis, that is when some of their fingers began to be pryed off the controls. At this point, the high profile cheerleaders from Neo´s/Zioinsts are screaming bloody murder as they are being thrown out of the car.
Bloomberg news is where I have posted my opinion since probably 2008. They know where I live and have 13 years of history regarding my opinon. I was raised under the wing of the MIC and I was somebody they did not want to leave. They know who mentored me. Disillusion lead me to walk away from it. I love my country, the Unted States, I have never threatened it, even after I understood how to truly hurt it. And the record stands and is known, by those with all of the real information, that I have been there on the side of the people of our nation, in times of need, not the politicians. Everybody leaves me alone.
There has been a sea change in terms of the type of response I have gotten when posting on Bloomberg over time. Now, I posts there very infrequentçy but, receive not the type of intense negativity I received in say 2016 or earlier. There is silence. In their silence and by watching their reactions after I have posted ( and they do pay attention to people, even nobody´s like me, whom seem to have their finger on the general pulse on the situation. They depend on it. ) It is as plain as day there is a sea change going on over there.
In brief, I think we have a shot at peace. I was raised in our warrior class and bathed in their logic. I know how we think and why. Quietly, one by one, the ´war punks´are beign dealt with.
My country has much to offer humanity, starting with it´s own population. As one of the monsters that was created over there, to kill the world, if I can now see why we need to evolve, then we have a chance.
I thank you Saker, for the aritcle and the opportunity to reply to it.
“My country [the U$A] has much to offer humanity”.
Something to bear in mind, the creativity of the people. Like Italy after it shed the burden of being the Roman Empire.
” The US is protected from the fallout (immigrants, violence, extremism, etc.) of the Ukrainian disaster by distance, ”
Yet, the US is actively allowing, even promoting, these exact things on its Southern border. Why ?
” Remember that, like the US, neither Russia nor Iran need to invade Afghanistan to strike at the Taliban, they can use proxies and they have the kind of weapon systems and launch platforms from which the Taliban cannot protect themselves ”
Then why weren’t these US proxies and weapons systems successful for over twenty years of warfare ? Why would the Chinese or Russians fare any better ?
Actually we aren’t protected by the Ukrainian fall out here in the USA, not entirely anyway. Been seeing a lot of Ukrainian immigrants showing up and working jobs at the sea food plants and agricultural facili here on the west coast…doing a lot of the jobs Hispanics and poor white American’s were doing…. especially in the more industrial aspects of those industries….part of the plan I’d guess, more cheap labor but with a little more industrial knowledge than the average Hispanic laborer.
Quick note to The Saker. Mate. Was interested in your sidebar in the article – about the NATO sailor’s view of Russian Capabilities. When I was serving in the Australian Army (as a lowly corporal) there was a belief among the soldiers, in not only the Australian Army but across NATO as a whole, that if war with the Warsaw Pact started it would be over pretty quick as the majority of Russian soldiers, and their Warsaw Pact brothers, would defect and refuse to fight. Even in those days I read a bit more widely than most and was one of the very few who said “BULLSHIT”. Then I moved into Intelligence and really started to read. Fast forward 45 years (give or take) – a guy at my local pub who has a brother in the British Army serving in NATO (as a lance corporal paratrooper) said that according to his brother if war broke out between NATO and Russia – yep most of the Russians would defect….. If that view is still held across NATO as it was in the 70s – those guys are in for a very rude shock.
If I might pass on a story. In Australia many years ago at a military conference a visiting British General was asked how long NATO thought a war with the Warsaw Pact would last. The General mulled it over (you could hear the cogs spinning) and relied – that depends on three things (1) how fast the Russians could get to the English Channel, (2) how fast the Americans could get their reinforcements across the Atlantic, (3) Whether NATO used the nuclear option of not. To the next question How fast – he replied that depended on the other two factors: how fast the Americans could get their reinforcements across – his reply not fast enough to prevent No 1 from happening; as for the nuclear option (problematical in his view as the French, Germans, Dutch, Belgians might object to half of Europe being turned into a nuclear desert) – without the nuclear option being used he said the Russians would be at the Channel in less time than it took the Germans in 1940, with the nuclear option played – slightly longer. For those who don’t know their military history: after the Germans attacked in May 1940 – it was all over red rover, British Army (or what was left of it) licking its wounds in Britain and the French running up the white flag – 40 days.
Charlie, a few years back Mr Lavrov said, “it doesn’t matter what they try, we’ll know before it happens”. I had always suspected that there were so many ‘Russians’ in NATO armies, there was no way NATO could ever surprise attack Russia, you just explained and confirmed my suspicions.
Cheers, M
In 3 words: It All Stinks!
Dear Saker,
I’d like to add the economic/monetary aspects to this equation: how long will the Fed and Wall Street be able to continue to convince the rest of the world that the USA is still a solvent nation?
What would happen to the US military adventures when the dollar loses its world-reserve-currency status?
It’s been a long time since you last had a chat with Catherine Austin Fitts and I would love to hear you sharing your military insights with her economic/monetary knowledge.
Some point out that the withdrawal doesn’t mean the troops are returning home, but are to set off to other base locations, and the U.S. will still carry on striking the Taliban from a distance or via proxy. Also there is the question about the private mercenary units and what they will be up to.
Another idea is that if the U.S. is collapsing, and the “B.I.D.E.N.” committee is paranoid, then the troops are being brought home to fight the next civil war against its own citizens, and the diversity crowd is so worried that they are seeking to mandatory draft women.
I’m going with ‘profoundly dysfunctional and basically collapsing/collapsed.’ As the Covid narrative loses its controlling power, another “emergency” needs to be created.
All signs are pointing to a cyber-attack by, of course, Russia. This will set the framework to explain why the credit cards and banks and therefore money are no longer accessible.
At that point, even if Russia and China actually attack U.S. bases or fire missiles into the homeland, then so much the better. The government no longer cares except to maintain its comfort of living in the USA. A Forever War where skirmishes here and there happen can continue to feed the news cycle and justify tyrannical control over the mainland.
Russia’s being set-up. But as a patsy. The actual target is the American people who are catching on to the fact that the voting is rigged and the lefties and alphabets are running the show. The goal is not Russian defeat. Not anymore. The goal is having a perpetual enemy in Russia, and when X,Y & Z happen, it is Russia’s fault, and the government must abandon the entire constitution and all checks, balances and elections to protect the people. Lockdowns and vaccines to protect you from Russian chemical and biological attacks. New Central controlled digital currency to protect you from Russian cyberhacking. Central control over all labour and the economy and property so that all may be provided rations due to Russian attacks against infrastructure and food, and to build back better to prepare for future Russian invasion.
Whatever happens, Russia will be the problem.
Pretty insightful comment. I’d only add that the villain in this scenario could be China as well, or possibly both Russia and China (Can D.C. ever have enough enemies?). But yes, as opposed to merely cutting the red states loose like I suggested above, they might attempt to hold things together as you’ve detailed here instead. That will almost certainly create an armed and organized internal opposition, but so much the better. That will actually justify D.C.’s continued existence in fighting the newly created “domestic terrorist” movement.
I think what we are seeing now is best descried as “Convulsions.”
Before the 2016 elections American politics and political animosity between left and right was pretty much unchanged since the Wiggs vs. Democrats. There was polarity. There was name calling. Pontificating on both sides. Lather, rinse, repeat. Once in a while Realpolitik was accomplished and somehow the country muddled through. Then with the election of President Monkey Wrench things changed drastically. I have never seen such a Pavlovian response from the rabid left, going back as far as the 1968 election and the concurrent social unrest of the 60’s. People hated each other back then, of course, but not like they do today. There were still a few adults in the room. The vitriol over the last four years has been shocking and the fallout of the 2020 election and subsequent squelching of liberties, riotously applauded by the left, is insane. Politically and socially we have passed a tipping point.
And then it stopped. Trump is gone and his most vocal supporters ostracized, shunned, or in jail for insurrection. CNN lost ratings and revenue, Rachel Maddow is now just shrill, and Stephen Colbert struggles to find something to snark about. The country had come to define itself by what liberals hated and the lynchpin of their hatred is now gone. I think the ruling elites just don’t know what to do and they are thrashing around.
He Who Must Not Be Reelected wanted to normalize relationships with Russia, end the illegal forever wars, and bring back a viable economy to our shores in his naïve and incompetent way. He was shredded as traitorous on every count. Now Biden mouths dictates to exit Iraq and Afghanistan and nobody blinks. Apparently, it’s OK when our dummy talks like that. Like everyone else, I at first was suspicious and figured that some sinister Machiavellian master stroke was in the works. Now I think the different factions are just grabbing the wheels of their own domains and spinning them as hard as they can.
In my opinion what made this Cabal-created “Empire” to be in existence all this time was money – US Dollar.
Bretton Woods had also given them ability to print this US Dollar at will, not only to become a Global Parasite but also to corrupt everyone they could, especially in politics – in USA, in Europe, in Latin America, Middle East and everywhere else they had an interest – such as resource-rich countries. All were totally corrupted.
Mass Media and education was simply taken over – one has to control the minds of these goyims after all.
It was a feast, but now this feast is coming to an end, hence the need for the “Great Reset”.
They are desperately hoping that all their corrupted vassals, flunkeys, etc will be blindly following this new Agenda, where they can brainwash their populations with this -“you will own nothing and be happy”. Yah, right.
Unfortunately for this Cabal (mostly members of the Tribe) right now there is no cohesion or cooperation even among themselves. They did manage to put another puppet into White House but the damage was already done. Limitless Greed carries with it it’s own price. Many hands are now reaching for the same levers of power and control and, most definitely, lots of infighting is going on right now among this so-called “elites”.
Totally corrupted US military, i.e. Pentagon, used to mind-blowing “largesses”, is also trying to reach some of these levers. US numerous “intelligence” Agencies, which had a pretty “free hand” so far, with various puppets in the White House having no power over them, are also scrambling to control things the way they were used to.
What we are seeing now is this shambolic mess. There is no some clever strategy or cunning planning, it is simply a fight among the predators for the few juicy bits that are left on the carcass. Parasitic psychopaths will not leave on their own accord and the truly unhinged among them might just reach that “red button”.
Then God helps us all.
@Katerina
”Parasitic psychopaths will not leave on their own accord and the truly unhinged among them might just reach that ’red button’.”
The solution here is evidently to take out the scum physically. Given the greed, corruption, and total incompetence in charge of the Pindo MIC, this should certainly not be an overwhelming task for Russian/Chinese/Iranian intelligence.
Conversely, we can assess the overall level of professionalism of what passes for Western ’intelligence’ simply by looking at Belarus. A landlocked country of about 10 million people with a decent standard of living and a government that had survived more or less intact from Soviet times. A year ago, Soros and associates tried to unseat that government, most notably replacing Lukashenko with the harridan Tikhanovskaya. This was the topic of Ken Leslie’s dystopian submission here titled ’Two clicks to midnight’, the gist of which was that Lukashenko was a dead man walking, Belarus was to be gobbled up by NATO, and Russia couldn’t do anything to stop it, or didn’t even care one iota. The coup was a total flop, resoundingly defeated within a week’s time. Not only wouldn’t the overwhelming majority population in Belarus have any of Western freedom and democracy; the Russian FSB contributed in putting down the nonsense swiftly.
Fast forward to April this year when they had set out to do a 100% violent power grab in Belarus, killing Lukashenko and his family and sabotaging the country’s power grid. Awesome — sure. Successful — nope. Was Russia to blame for their defeat again — hell yes.
Bottom line: The reputation of imperialist invincibility is so much onanistic bullshit. And the groundswell of approval in response to ’Two clicks to midnight’ shows that it certainly is addictive if there is enough exposure to it.
I think a discredited elite are trying to implement #1 in order to prevent #3.
They fear, correctly, an increasingly restive white populace that has begun looking beyond electoral politics for solutions.
The so-called “kosher sandwich” is falling apart: the Democrats are now rabidly anti-white while 2016-2020 exposed the Republicans as incompetent weaklings, even controlled opposition. Tucker Carlson is somehow still on the air, still topping the ratings, and now even broadcasting from Hungary. The US military decamps Afghanistan in the middle of the night, and heartland whites have begun openly ridiculing American generals.
None of this suggests that the DC elites are in a position to go tiger-shooting, but stupider things have happened.
The British Empire didn’t fall, it morphed into what? The UK military’s overseas base network involves 145 sites in 42 countries in 2021. It is still an Empire. How about U$A’s military bases? 800+…
The Financial Empire is ruthless, relentless and resourceful. The tide goes out before a big wave. The water will appear to retreat, exposing the sea floor over a much larger area than an extremely low tide before a tsunami. The Global Financial Syndicate still dreams of building a global empire. It may be pursuing a new plan and realigning to strike back.
What metrics will indicate the Financial Empire is on a downhill trajectory? The following metrics will show its weaknesses and withdrawals:
– Closer on Frozen Conflicts. It will start negotiating closures towards its frozen conflicts in Syria, Libya, Ukraine,… It doesn’t want outstanding liabilities. How many frozen conflicts has it successfully resolved this year?
– No more regime changes. It is still working on regime changes in Belarus, Venezuela,…
– Nations start trading in their national currencies. Russia is leading De-Dollarization. However, majority of transactions are still in the US$ and British pounds (60%?) globally. Both the UK and U$A, important pillars of the Empire, have been running trade deficits for many decades in upwards of $200+ billion and $500+ billion respectively . Will we see lowering of their deficits?
– Closer of military bases. How many military bases has it closed this year?
– Change in its attitude and approach. The Empire is still behaving arrogantly and full of hubris.
Most likely any withdrawal propaganda is a ruse. The British Empire pursued this deception many times over the last century. China is constrained by the 2022 Winter Olympics and Russia by its September elections. Will the Empire strike after August Olympics?

In my view this post shows the limitations of the thinking of the creator of this blog. I am not saying this to insult a man I have great respect and gratitude for. The issue governing the Biden collective is no longer the standard geopolitics of the unipolar world versus the multipolar world, or some “retreat.”
The failure to properly understand Trump’s American Nationalism and to dismiss this nationalism as the chauvinism of a bunch of beer drinking deplorable slobs has made our friend lose his compass, and thus he cannot see what is going on before his eyes. The issue in the end game is not geopolitical, but cultural, religious, and the principle of national sovereignty itself. While the Biden collective makes a temporary respite to its the attacks on Russia, It is in the process of running color revolutions of all the conservative anti-Russian governments in Eastern and Central Europe. This is because the final empire is globalization, its the green agenda, it’s the destruction of culture, family and the future. Global cultural degeneracy is the final battle ground of the final empire, not imperial geopolitics of the matrix governing the mind set of our friend.
For centuries the globalists starting with Venice through Amsterdam and London have used national cultures and their identities to foment division and wars between kingdoms, principalities and nations. But now it is those very national identities that is their greatest threat. They don’t care if Russia is powerful, or if China is powerful as long as they can implement their “open society” globally. They would even let China run the world if China agreed to their basic cultural and anti-national development green agendas. In this respect they consider the unsubdued, unruly nature of the American “slobs” our friend has such contempt for their greatest problem.
I can forgive our friend for this because he was not born or raised in the U.S. where the rebellion against the globalists is going to be the most fierce. Those rebelling don’t care about “the empire.” All they want is their nation. As that rebellion intensifies in the U.S., it will intensify elsewhere as a basic human reaction to the degradation of their basic freedoms and the destruction of their sense of being human within their cultural identity. .
The battlefield is no longer between nations, but between sovereign nations versus the globalization and the end of nations. Where does our friend stand on that?
The West Did Not Expect This: China and Russia Are Building the World’s Strongest Military Alliance
(Machine translation from original Portuguese article)
The West, especially the US/NATO/EU/Israel, is primarily responsible for the emerging Sino-Russian military alliance and it is the political elite of the West, who must bear all responsibility for whatever eventually happens.
Absolute delusions like the ones you can read here and here, only demonstrate how much of the conservative/nationalist right in Europe and the US continues to not understand strictly anything that is really going on in the world and continues to antagonize the People’s Republic of China in a visceral way, when in reality, it is the Anglo-Zionist elite who they should be hostile to, which seems to be doing everything to provoke a war between Russia and NATO. Such a war, by the way, will necessarily drag China into conflict, as Xi Jinping knows perfectly well that if the Anglo-Zionists succeed in destroying Putin’s Russia, China will inevitably be the next target for these psychopaths.
The Anglo-Zionist Empire, in the tremendous stupidity and lack of strategic capacity that characterizes its ruling class, however, does not stop carrying out military exercises that directly provoke and threaten both Russia and China , together with the allies of these nations, as is the case of Iran, Venezuela, Belarus, Cuba, among others.
In short for NATO’s pro-LGBT boys: Neither China, nor Russia, are afraid of you and if there is ever a war between NATO and the Sino-Russian military bloc, you will be militarily annihilated in no time . Do you understand? Can you see this or is it necessary to draw a picture?!
Even without the use of nuclear weapons, both Russia and China now have enough capacity to militarily defeat NATO. Alias, a military exercise carried out by the Poles themselves not long ago concluded that even with military assistance from NATO, the Russian Federation has the capacity to defeat and annex Poland in just five days!
It is a fact that the Anglo-Zionist Empire is now militarily weak and increasingly vulnerable at all levels. Russia and its generals know this. Ditto for Xi Jinping’s China. The only idiots who don’t seem to know this are the suckers of the Western political class and their respective diplomats, who are making clown figures around the world with hollow threats that no longer frighten anyone, because no one is afraid of a rotten empire, militarily weak, vulnerable and in clear terminal decay…
I once again urge ALL patriots and nationalists not to waste time in seeking strategic alliances with both Russia and China, as these countries are by far the best life insurance that Western nationalists can have today. All political parties in the West that are currently hostile to Russia and/or China are your enemies and work for the system . Zionists want to use you as “cannon fodder” to fight the Sino-Russian bloc, because they know that the Sino-Russian bloc is today the only power that truly challenges International Zionism and the sinister forces behind the New World Order project .
The complete lack of notion of what China really is, coupled with the misinformation circulating on social networks and the media, is what drives many nationalists and patriots away from the idea of a strategic alliance with Xi Jinhping’s China. But think about it and ask yourself a question: if Xi Jinping’s China were really such a threat – as the system would have you believe – do you really think that a conservative nationalist of Vladimir Putin’s caliber would have celebrated a strategic alliance with it?!
Western nationalists and patriots, for the most part, need to do some deep thinking and should start thinking about putting many of their old dogmas into question. By the way, the photograph I leave at the end of this writing says everything about what the true spirit of the Sino-Russian military alliance really consists of. The only ones who have reason to be afraid of this are the Zionists and the bunch of moral degenerates of the USA/NATO/EU, who want at all costs to destroy Civilization and reduce Humanity to perpetual slavery and humiliation .
The good, eventually, always ends up defeating the evil and there is no doubt that today, who is on the side of the good, is precisely the Russian Federation and the People’s Republic of China. The next two decades will be very interesting and will transform the world and the international system of alliances in a completely radical and never-before-seen way. Wait everyone to see…

Very good question and lots of interesting comments above. I too sense that a retreat is happening. All indications point to domestic power struggles within the American administration. We need to put Pepe on this; get him to tap some of his Atlanticist insider sources. Something’s going on. Like many of us I’m reduced to speculation. That said, the political lay of the land that might help explain developments like Afghan withdrawal, cool and somewhat distanced relations with Israel, and with the Saudis as well would perhaps indicate a new anti neocon Democratic Party young and wokies, who have little love for Zionism, Big Tech, Larry Fink &Co. and a Pentagon management who is clearly worried about fast developing Chinese high technology that has ominous military value. Obama’s back in town. Recall how Obama left the Israelis to twist in the wind at the end of his second term when the UNGA voted almost unanimously to censure Israel, as they do every year. And every year America comes to Israel’s rescue. Until Obama. The current Democratic Party is Obama’s party. The Larry Fink affiliated ‘build back better’ team is officially swearing off oil; they want to defund new oil explorations. The long Rockefeller/Kissinger oil based era is seemingly past for these people. Or so they say. The ‘oil as primary element of geostrategy’ is the ‘Anglo’ part of the Anglo Zionist alliance. Is this to starting to fail? What’s going on? Pepe, help!
1. The fragmentation of the US elites did not begin with Biden, and that’s a “blue state” kind of mistake. It was already visible in 2013, when Obama refused to act on the fake chemical attack, even though in May of 2012 he had said that was a “red line”. During Trump’s era, his “inability to control the government” was laid to his poor administration skills, rather than a deliberate strategy, but we should re-evaluate that notion.
2. “Multiple centers of power” can be deliberate and even artificial. For example, in the early years of the “takfiri” attack on Syria, there were about 2000 different jihadi groups. Saudi princes would each fund at least several groups for reasons of prestige. This was so informal that the groups were impossible to enumerate. Observers noted that it was also impossible to connect specific war crimes to specific organizations, and that’s when I first realized this might be the plan. Even now, when there are only a half-dozen jihadi groups in Syria, the jihadis still draw some advantages of deniability and unpredictability of future operations from this chaos. Yes, the groups sometimes fight each other but that’s less costly than high-level arguments between their sponsors, the rulers of Turkey, Qatar and Saudi Arabia who can’t afford to lose face.
This same principle of decentralization and maskirovka could explain some of the Empire’s seeming contradictions, and I expect far more of this “chaos” in the future. This does not contradict Saker’s thesis that this results from the failures of Empire where no one party is in charge or is willing to accept responsibility, because, as with humans generally, there are always multiple motives and overlapping strategies.
Has the US began its great retreat? The answer is an obvious NO. While it has concluded the Ukraine and Afghanistan are no longer worth its efforts and money, it has switched its energies to China and the ASEAN block. It is clear from all these actions below, hoping that one or more sticks and yield the desired results:
1. Continue to spin the story that the covid virus came from the Wuhan lab
2. Continue to make up stories of Genocide, slave labor, etc, in the hope to derail the progress there and cause discontent amongst the Uighurs
3. Continue to sponsor and lately with more vigor, anti government protests in a few SE asian countries, namely, Thailand and Malaysia, to pull them away from Chinese “proximity”, politically. See https://youtu.be/CEzpYKVfcKU
4. Keep trying to cajole India and Vietnam to be outright more hostile to China.
All the above are as clear as day. So all this is not a retreat, but a switch in focus. Its like an arsonist who thinks he is taking on too much and reprioritize his targets. It will be up to China to respond and handle most or all of what is coming
One other comment. Will Americans come to the defense of Israel with their sons and daughters. I generally believe that time has passed. Many Americans have caught on to the Zionism. I believe a large chunk of Trump’s supporters are anti-Zionists. How do I perceive this. Living in a heavy Zionist area of LA, non-Zionists speak in code about Zionists. They believe the Zionists have heavily manipulated the American population. The whole racist, anti-Semite thing has become old hat. Now living in the reddest of red states which has always had a large percentage of the population involved in the military, the whole appetite for war is fulfilled. In general NYC and DC are looked upon as Sodom and Gomorrah. /to quote Mussolini — They don’t care anymore.
The US is in my view definitely contracting. Weather the US leadership understands this or not is another matter. They might call it “strategic withdrawal” and might entertain hopes of reversing their predicament. Probably from 1943 to 45 the Nazi leadership was thinking the same thing. But they kept on contracting and strategically withdrawing until the ceased to exist.
There is not much the US can do to remain (or regain?) their one time dominant position. They are giving up on parts to save what they can. There might not be a single individual or group in control of US actions. They mighy not even recognize what is happening. But the general result is exactly that: amputate one limb to save another.
Only our American friends can answer the questions posed in this article. But it’s an interesting correlation in domestic terms to the global understanding of US strategy posed by saker
https://www.zerohedge.com/political/when-confidence-our-institutions-collapses
From my point of view the U.S. is both contracting and expanding simultaneously. This makes sense for a nation founded on contradictions. On the strategic military’s level the US appears to be in a retreat, as the research and development arm of the DOD has failed to keep pace with the technological developments of potential near peer opposition. On a propaganda level the indispensable nation that stops aggressor nations and fights wars to end war rings ever hollow. Only the truly naive ever believed this ridiculous nonsense to begin with. The world view based on materialism and economics that the US exemplifies, however, is still very much in the ascendancy. As is scientific rationalism. These points of view have lead the US to this point and the fruit of such thinking and action are beginning to ripen.
On the social and political level the US has been founded on contradictions and misunderstandings that are embedded in classical liberalism and the philosophy of the enlightenment era. I liked the picture that was chosen to go with this article as Bonapartism is nearly an ideological twin of the US system of thought. So maybe the best place to start is the contradictions in the watch words, Equality, Freedom, and Brotherhood. Exact equality is a ridiculous notion de facto and therefore de jure. Humans are not carbon copies of each other and where exact equality is pushed there is injustice. Freedom in the US seems to be interpreted as mere hedonism. Happiness is an easy comfortable life filled with distractions like computer gadgets, sports and tv programs set to the lowest cultural level. Freedom is linked to human rights in this country on the level of the freedom to deviate from any and all moral rectitude. This partially explains the US government’s obsession with the “rights” of the homosexual and other such deviants. The Brotherhood of man? Don’t get me started. I only have to walk a few blocks to one of many homeless camps in my small little town.
No Western country challenges the underlying world view of the US. Even during the cold war Soviet Russia had more in common with the US than I’m sure people would like to discuss. Modern Capitalism is every bit as subversive as Marxism.
The democracy in this country amounts to a heard of domestic animals that desperately want to be ruled by a savior, a pseudo- hero bathed in orange.
Have not read other comments, so if already posted, this is a repeat of ideas expressed by Tom Luongo in Gold, Goats ‘N Guns in podcasts 75, 76 and 77, which you have probably already heard/read. Biden sued for peace with Russia at the behest of Schwab who has failed to get the war with US and Russia going and now has wanted to foment a war between US and China. Trouble is, on his watch as head of the Davos crowd, he failed with getting a Ukraine invasion of the Don Bas and the Russia US war, failed at seeing Syria lost to the proxy terrorists, and COVID did not kill enough and maintain fear enough to allow him to accomplish his great reset. So his leadership with the multi-faceted Davos crowd is challenged and no longer assured, even likely failing to hold. Plus his ultimate plan to eliminate the commercial banks and run the monetary system strictly through the central banks has pissed off the NY banks and Fed, who rocked the European Union market the same day as Biden’s summit, as a subtle warning not to plan to eliminate and shut out the banks.
The real reason for the “Great Retreat” could be a national fatigue, exhaustion and bankruptcy brought on by living and pursuing an imaginary, outdated, imperial lifestyle in politics and economics since at least 2001. There is also another obscure influence, a very peculiar theory, for what I would term the “Great Receding” and that is the internet which has changed peoples views and outlook by its inclination to school otherwise normal people to challenge all authority and subject all dictum to investigation and the test of truth. To use Carl Jung’s terminology, the outward orientation of the American people is receding into a more introspective phase and, as it were, moving toward the Jungian archetypes. This is a tectonic inner shift that has taken place and one that is amplified everyday by the web. If this theory is correct, the “contraction phase” should continue continue well into and past a modulus of rupture time-point. You have seen a concrete example of this type of time-point in the saga of Nordstream 2.
Arshan, the ‘news’ to home, from the ‘front’, is instant. Comes with selfies and moving pics no need to tell tall tales of dead enemies………’wanna watch the vid’……that’s the world today, so yes…………the uniform people know what’s up, many plugged in people, USA especially, see it every day. All those bases, conflict points, are manned by someone’s kid. The centre can’t hold.
to answer the question posed; redeployments, defense diversification, no offensive ability to forward attack and hold, make best of a really bad situation (shot self in the head, twice)……….don’t feed the Bear. It bites!
Cheers, M
In the grand scheme of things, which has been unfolding as many have pointed out here, for what could be called an epoch, (though I hesitate to point to its beginning,) if a great retreat is on the brink of becoming reality so many of us will give thanks that we have lived to see the day. My addition to all that has been said so far is simply to say, thank you Lavrov and thank you Putin for being classical Russians in the manner in which you have faced western belligerence with wisdom and clarity of response worthy of those Generals of old.
I once had in my possession the American published version of Tolstoi’s “War and Peace” – this translation of the novel with accompanying maps and essays came out during WW2. Those essays said in general that the current war was proceeding along the same route as did Napoleon’s, and so the Germans would again be defeated. We shall, I hope, be experiencing the same confidence soon that a great retreat as Saker has phrased it, is underway.
Then, as Tolstoi had it, not only the generals were responsible, but also the great mass of the people, who suffered and saw homes and families perish during the invasion and of one accord made everything a hardship to the occupiers. This last resistance was the overpowering stage of non-acceptance that made the reversal of fortunes inevitable. We don’t yet see it, but this time it is the world’s people who will accomplish it.
Just read through the comments. Pretty good thread; lots of thoughtful considerations. Where did the trolls go?
@Kevin
”Where did the trolls go?”
I was also surprised by this. In the present thread, we still only have one commenter who repeated some misguided conjecture of his about Putin having accepted Biden’s plans for a global reset.
Also, I am sure it’s a solid proof of very astute moderators who are up to the task. This time around, we have thankfully been spared any spambot submissions. Kudos!
The one thing the U.S. still has “lots of” is? $! Tons of it. The wealth is staggering. A new/better military? No problem. It can be built. Now take the $ away from America and that’s a different story. It’s being predicted, and the arguements are realistic, but you have to show me. It’s not here yet. It will be reflected in dollar denominated markets. Markets are fine, great even…………so far.
This is an excellent analysis but I think it is very limited in its scope and focuses only on US military retrenchment if that really what it is.
I think this “retrenchment” is mostly illusionist in nature as the US seems to be using an incredible array of “weapons” to engage their ‘”enemies” in ways that they think will shock, awe and terrorize the world into some sort of submission but seems to indicate a group of elites gone stark raving and dangerously mad.
Yes, the US has some big, bad weapons of great size like aircraft carriers, but they also have weapons of a much, much, smaller size. The size of 90 one billionth of a meter. This weapon(s) unleashed on a global population totally unaware of what was done to it has unleashed the REAL US weapon of control, hatred and division. That weapon is FEAR. Cold, hard, unrelenting FEAR. Nazi style fear. Fear that, if they can slip a weapon into all countries on earth without detection(it can’t be seen with the naked eye) and then, using that FEAR, intimidate and terrorize just about everyone and force them to their will with medical dictatorships then these totally insane sub-humans have gone a long way towards their goals.
At the same time these monsters COMPLETELY subvert the Constitutions of all western nations, freedom of movement, health rights and human rights while imposing TOTAL control over all means of communication. That is called totalitarianism. Once this is complete you just may see some real war.
At the same time they abrogate the rule of law so that controlled judges make sure you can’t obtain electoral justice or medical rights justice by tossing all lawsuits challenging the FEAR narrative. Then your goose is really cooked.
Their final “solution” may be much like that of Nazi Germany but in slow motion.
Go ahead keep looking at the macro of the big weapons and missiles and geo-politics, read Escobar if you must, but that is just diversion.
What is really happening right in front of your eyes and under your nose is the real time war of the micro attack(90 one billionth of a meter) which is being used to destroy everything in its path and dividing people, making people fearful of each other, turning the sane into the insane, literally destroying science and, by extension, truth via science and setting up those who resist it for a fate like European Jews under Nazi Germany.
Finally, it is very, very sad to see so many intelligent people do not understand what is being done to them while staring at the macro while the micro is what got you. Right under your nose.
Great informed writing, I have glasses that only allow me to speak to coming starvation and bailing out of responsibility for millions in Afghan… looks like good strategy. South America can’t get rain in the vast majority of its land, and crops are failing all over the globe and areas that grow single crops, coffee, ect. Rely on shipped in food. Ect
That 4th rate power would be its citizens, pretty close in moral and cultural degeneracy to their EU exneighbors, but the City of London has been masterminding the Heartland containment and the reign of Mammon-Surgat alongside Baal for centuries now…
Just recall President al Assad interview some years ago when he said to end terrorism only one thing was needed, to shut down the City of London…
Excellent article, and excellent thread full of thought-provoking comments. Many thanks to the Saker and all commentators!
No, I am not sure the US is retreating to some extent. I think instead what we are seeing is a decline of the US as a public image or avatar of the real ANZ power.
On the military aspect:
The Pentagon is just the PR department of their MIC shareholders. The US top brass are just a deluded bunch of uneducated car salesmen or corporate middle managers embarked in narcissistic competition, oblivious to any form of reality, much like Nokia managers in the early 2000s. The MIC keeps their fake politicians voting obscene budgets for the apparent pork projects (F35 or the Ford carrier) to maintain ever-expanding profits, while there seems to be a transition in the real fear-projecting military might from an occupation army of misinformed and ill-prepared cannon-fodder homesick second-class US citizens into a dystopian nightmare of robots, drones, insects, bacteria, virii, and plenty of proxy disposable cishuman mercenaries. However. the sheer overwhelming number of the US air and munitions superiority is still enough to blind the Western public opinion into believing the US/NATO could win any war, anywhere. This is clearly not the case. Imho the only reason there is no wider consciousness of that is the amazing brainwash executed from Hollywood (now Netflix) and the MSM agents, coupled with the systemic destruction of education in the West in the last 30 years. Kinetic dominance was long ago replaced by financial slavery backed by terrorism disguised as apparent military kinetic might or third party « yihadists ».
On the financial aspect:
The cartel of khazarian gangsters the public mistakes for a public central bank keeps printing USD at accelerating speed; however, an increasing number of initiatives are apparently not using USD but Rubli and/or Yuan. Also, as some comments hinted at, with a forced declining use of fossil fuels to the benefit of fake greenish scam things, the petrodollar use will decline too. I am not an expert so I don’t know if the USD can be replaced by some abstract cyber coin in the near future which would become the new reserve currency, or if said cyber thing would need to be backed by the USD, itself backed by… nothing from longtime?… But I recall Israel was part of the Asian Bank for Infrastructure Development founding, hence my impression that the real power is slowly phasing the traditional public image of the US as Hegemon for more subtler things like robots&mercenaries, other currencies and vague green energies…
The geographical US:
From reading the Saker and Voltaire Network, I could think the US will disintegrate into some loose group of smaller entities (plenty of fracture lines aside of the Coasts vs Flyover, and a pitiful record of inequality along all socioeconomic indicators, poverty, crime, collapsing infrastructure, etc).
However, I see more plausible the oligarchy will succeed in imposing a kind of totalitarian futuristic USSR after the neverending « covid » « pandemic ». A social credit score model, the prominence of Silicon Valley algorithms directing everyday life, the ubiquitous digital censorship, the private totalitarian US companies posing as public « social networks » or « central banks » owing the debt of all Western citizens… And every everyman thinking any individual sacrifice is good and necessary as it is for the best interest of the group. I am seeing that everywhere around me with the apartheid measure of the « sanitary pass » being endorsed by most citizens.
So, I see the US, and all the West, retreating to a totalitarian farm of uber-connected braindead Eloi sheep, totally cut from the Zone B, while the real power keeps its global dominance and Heartland containment psychopathic agenda… The few people who are actually thinking in the West will end their days like Omar Khâyyâm (forcibly fed with drugs by some liberal progressive samaritan), Socrates (as a poor « covid » victim or as an « accident »), or Solzhenitsyn…
I ask regularly my friends if they are aware of the immense amount of culture that must be appearing in Zone B (after explaining what it is). This is especially apparent from Russia and China, obviously. I have been repeatedly amazed by some RECENT novels and films from said countries (not talking about classics), far surpassing the typical Western productions, which sadly seems locked forever in repackaging old productions in new flavors according to hollow tendencies. My friends just do not understand. Why would they want to read a Chinese book or watch a Russian film, or play an Iranian board game? And how was I able to purchase those in Amazon? Aren’t they under sanctions and bans because they are all evil dictatures?
And that is supposed to be the educated response, in the rare cases where it is not « yeah, sure, hey did you see the last episode of… », which is not long-lasting either because I don’t have any kind of Netflix or similar…
Hopefully the whole West will be freed in the XXII Century by some Global South NGO…
