Dear friends,
Sorry for the long silence. I am fine, just had some personal issues in meatspace to take care of, now I am back to normal and, God willing, I should have a Ukraine SITREP ready for you by the end of the afternoon. Topic will include the Poroshenko speech, the latest “sellout” of Novorussia, the Minsk Memorandum, and the World Economic Forum’s so-called “Ukraine Initiative”.
Stay tuned and give me a few hours. If you want, use this post as an Open Thread.
Thanks,
The Saker
PS: A reader just sent me this funny demotivator entitled “pure mathematics”. Enjoy!

There’s only one way. Fight it out, on the streets, in the snowfields, house by house, car by car, man by man. Let go of the idea that Russia will save us. Novorossia can make it on its own. Maybe it will take 20 or 50 years. The only way forward is guerilla warfare and socialism. No way can Russia move as fast as Novorossian society. Take whatever help we can get and move on, baby. Vietnam / IRA scenarios – that’s just the way it is. Gotta deal with it, keep rocking.
Russia can only do so much for Novorossia. It is constrained by its membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, whose charter lists combating terrorism, separatism and extremism among its primary goals. Russia, IMO, will not abandon Novorossia, but must work within the constraints of the SCO.
That’s just not fair to the chimp or the braided bun….
The ex-oligarch Mikhail Borisovich Khodorkovsky announced he would is going to take over Russia and he has started the “Open Russia society” same as George Soros “open Ukraine society.”

Dear The Saker,
I note anon’s post below
“Mikhail Borisovich Khodorkovsky announced he would is going to take over Russia and he has started the “Open Russia society” same as George Soros “open Ukraine society.”
Why does Khodorkovsky think:
1) The Russian public would support him? and
2) He goes against the terms of his release there won’t be blow back?…..
Seems the court case against the RF in favour of Yukos was all planned. The USG and their EU stooges really don’t get it – do they!
Who was behind persuading Putin to release him? Those 5th columnists have exposd themselves in the process.

Whatever else his positions may be, I like how he insists that Ukraine is not a country, but the western bit of Russia. From childhood I was told that our family immigrated from Russia. The village is now in Transnistria. I visited last year, a few amateur photos can be found at vk.com/trefz.
Feel sorry to for the monkey. Do not deserve this comparison. By the way feel sorry too for the Ukie soldiers that got blood transfusion with blood donated by Timoshenko.
those jewish folks (Khodorkovsky) seem to have a knack for publicity and propaganda.. got to hand it to them in that level…
funny pic.. thanks for that..

how long does Putin need to figure out that appeasement policy does not work with the West – unless you wanna end like Gadaffi.
‘The Guardian’ has a puff piece on one of the ‘Pussy Riot’ harridan slags. The obsession of the Western Russophobic MSM hate-machine with these nasty nonentities is quite pathological-but what in the West these, End, days, is not? The creature is, as ever, quite full of herself and her cosmic significance, the Comments are full of The Guardians’ resident Putin-haters salivating in most indecorous fashion (both in appreciation of her alleged ‘good looks’ and in rabid Pavlovian Putin-rage)and, apparently, the creature has been communication with another phony and grotesque self-publicist, Slavoj Zizek. Fith column:
Thousands of Russians are expected to take part in peace marches this Sunday. The demonstrations are the first mass protests since March, when rallies were held against Russia’s takeover of Ukraine’s Crimean Peninsula. Boris Nemtsov, one of the organisers of this Sunday’s march, says it is impossible to remain indifferent to the fratricidal war in east Ukraine. He has called for an end to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s political party inflaming the conflict by supplying arms, fighters and money.

Lastly, I absolutely hate academic gravitas. So, while I hear you and can understand your point of view, you should expect a lot more puerile nonsense from me :-(

how insulting for the chimp as their kind would never consider the ultimate of immorality, the use of nuclear weapons to destroy another band of chimps over perceived differences.
I have a question regarding the Western sanctions against Russia: Are there any objective criteria as to when the sanctions could be lifted? They were justified by “Russia’s Role in the Downing of MH17, and the escalation of the crisis in eastern Ukraine”. Well, Russia is participating in the international commission to elucidate the MH-17 disaster, and has brokered a ceasefire in the Donbass region.
Do they really expect Russia to hand over Crimea to the Kiev Junta, against the will of its population, just so that they can unleash another “Anti”-Terrorist Operation? Without WWIII, Crimea will not become Ukrainian ever again.
So Saker, what’s your take on this latest Strelkov “opinion piece”:
I would especially like to hear your take on why our hero, the apolitical Strelkov, included Lavrov in the Surkov “cabal of traitors”. Yes, I’d like to hear it very much. Oh, and what is he hinting at there at the end, hmmm?
BOPOH
For your SITREP can you also says something about the chemical plant explosion in Donetsk too? Thanks.

@ Oscar, one shouldn’t worry for the monkeys, they have seen so many other ugly comparisons… In France we like to portray our politicians as monkeys, but one day it happened with a couloured (and as hateful as Timoshenko though I don’t know her to have called openly to genocide) French minister and, I suppose the self-styled antiracists are deeply racist because they yelled it was racism… What would be real racism would be to avoid portraying her as a monkey like other politicians…
And I don’t think you should worry about Timoshenko’s blood, I suppose it has been thrown away by the medics.
Some think Khodorkovsky’s announcement of planning to topple Putin is a brilliant move on Putin’s part:

This Is Why China & Russia Are Now “The Enemy”
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 09/20/2014 12:15 -0400
http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2014-09-20/why-china-russia-china-are-now-enemy
The suppression of gold prices is essential at all costs to the Anglo-American banking interests. The saber rattling and attempts to lure Russia and China into military conflict are about who controls the financial world.
Russia and China keep accumulating the eternal currency – gold.
The American Empire and their EU disciples continue to accumulate debt and print fiat currencies. Has fiat paper ever won out over gold in the long-run? Change is coming. Revolution is in the air.
You can sense the desperation of the ruling oligarchs. Their fiat world is beginning to crumble. But they will not go without a bloody fight.
Please stick to political discourse for your understanding of money and what it is is obviously lacking.
All,
I’ve been reading here and there that Russian troops have helped the NAF. Some questions: How many? When did this happen? Where were they deployed? Are they still in Eastern Ukraine?
Mark
In the german main news show “Tagesschau” tonight they reported positively about the “next step” of the ceasefire agreement – the demilitarized zone controlled by the osce. German government is clearly fed up with the situation and wants the war to end at any cost. Quite a difference is seen in german media compared to the beginning of the war, when they blamed “separatists” for everything. Now the advisory board of the ARD-channel which produces “Tagesschau” has issued a critical report of the channel’s Ukraine-coverage (german link: http://kurzlink.de/uj28IdbcC).
So to me it looks like the russian policy (deescalating the war and focus on business-interest of Europe an Germany especially) was successful at this point.
Looking forward to the SITREP, appreciate your work!
Nemtsov is a charmer, is he not. To get a good idea of the fanatical hysteria of the Western Putin-haters, might I suggest visiting the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) and the program Late Night Likudnik…oops..’Live’ of last Thursday. In it the geriatric host Philip Adams, a rich poseur who has made the familiar voyage to the Right over the years (while maintaining an increasing hysterical posturing as a ‘Leftist’)interviews a raving lunatic called Peter Pomerantsev. This creature sounds often as if on drugs, so heightened is his hysterical denunciations of Putin and his ‘post-modern’ regime based on ‘lies’. This nut-case, interviewed with mucilaginous sycophancy by the old codger, brings new meaning to the old adage about pots calling kettles black. According to this lunatic, Putin controls all the Russian media, which lies about everything, including MH17. He denies that any Ukrainian aircraft was near the passenger jet. He claims that Putin ‘lied’ to Merkel but gives no example. He smears Snowden, and denies that the jihadist butchers in Syria are, in fact, as evil Putin said, jihadist butchers. Oh, and he asserts that Bush was ‘thrown out’ because he lied over Saddam’s WMD. And there’s me thinking that he got re-elected in 2004. I must be a ‘post-modern liar’.
When seen in its full hideous horror, not just the psychotic mendacity of a carnival grotesque like Pomerantsev and the scores like him in the Western MSM hate-machine, but the slimy facilitators like Adams, you get a glimpse at an alternative reality fueled by an insatiable hatred and lust for violence and terror. The West really has become even more raving mad and viciously evil as is global empire crumbles from its inner putrescence, and that is what Putin and Iran and China and every other country on Earth must face and somehow survive. If they fail, the path to the Hell that is the Near and Middle East after decades of Western perfidy, beckons.
Along with my hopes for India-China relations there are nagging concerns about the border security issues which have been competing for front page coverage in the Indian news. This story from today http://indiatoday.intoday.in/story/fresh-chinese-intrusion-in-ladakh-50-more-pla-troops-arrive-in-chumar/1/384067.html and news reports from the last few days leave me thinking it is mostly theatrics which the leaders have under control.
There are a few items by Indian defense experts at Asia Times which offer a little background.
Sana Hashmi discusses concerns that Chinese infrastructure projects in the frontier regions (especially railway and roads) will enable a demographic shift in the region favouring China’s Han population.
http://www.atimes.com/atimes/South_Asia/SOU-01-170914.html
Dr Namrata Goswami (who has ties to the US Institute of Peace) examines how these events impact India’s defense policy and political motivation suggesting that the “Pivot to Asia” and Modi’s upcoming visit to Washington may be factors:
India may be motivated to respond vigorously in kind to protect its national sovereignty and territorial integrity both militarily and geopolitically. Some indications of these policies can be inferred from President Pranab Mukherjee’s visit to Vietnam and signing agreements in defense co-operation and off-shore oil exploration in the South China Sea, disputed and claimed by China as its territory. China is in a regional ‘power’ contest with the US in the East China Sea, the South China Sea and beyond the first island chain of the Pacific Ocean in the aftermath of the US “Asia pivot” push. That said the timing and location of the current ongoing Indo-US joint military exercises “Yudh Abhyas 2014” at the Himalayan foothills will not be lost to Chinese observers. [1] A strategic partnership with the US is on the table for Prime Minister’s Narendra Modi’s summit with President Barrack Obama.
M K Bhadrakumar had concluded an upbeat piece with a warning:
A big question remains: Will Modi be allowed to get away with his road map for India? The history of the modern world is replete with instances of predatory capitalism by the Western world interfering, if need be, to enforce course correction in developing countries that show signs of deviation.
Goswami tempers his concerns with this optimistic conclusion:
The India-China territorial dispute, pending resolution for decades together, is not an intractable issue. It can be resolved. It is in India’s interest to address China’s security concerns to enable steady and greater Chinese investments over time. It is for China to initiate rolling back coercive military maneuvers and intimidated geopolitics to allow enough strategic space for all stakeholders to establish a win-win security environment in the region.
http://www.atimes.com/atimes/China/CHIN-03-190914.html
I keep wondering why it is so hard to settle these issues which impair constructive developments. Presumably there are groups in both countries motivated by private interests.
Brian
LOL! The monkey does not want to murder Russian speaking people like the Heidi-wannabe lookalike oligarch.
Ukrainians – go to Kiev and get the oligarchs, put them on trial and then hang them. Stop ***ing around and killing each other like idiots. Your real enemies are in Kiev. They looted the Ukraine helped by the west and other oligarchs.

Humor is one if the best and most adaptive psychological defense mechanisms, as well as a very effective means of communication.
Saker,
Ukries are “still” firing at arm deposit: it looks as Porky say something such as “ceasefire”, but some of his thugs continue…clearly to provoke. President Putin and the militia “do not want to answer the provocation” at this time, but there is no peace in the air! US-EU_VP and the militia are constantly playing double game, while “both” reinforcing their position: I hope the militia is reinforcing his!. Meanwhile there is this idiotic charade of ISIS in the Middle East with US trying to involve also Russia and China…why?
Today on german Version of RIA Novosti: Russia doesn’t plan countersanctions according to vice prime Minister Dmitri Kosak. (http://de.ria.ru/politics/20140920/269595073.html) I don’t get this, at first a nice counterstrike with the embargo on food imports and now this??

I think now that is even more clear every single day,Ukraine and Syria(Isis)are only about regime change(VVP ousted or killed)
They will keep the sanctions active till they achieve their goal, this by ALL means.
It will maybe take some time, but they count on a decrease in popularity of the executive due to sanctions.
It seems they will announce another round soon(level 4).

http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2014-09-20/why-china-russia-china-are-now-enemy
Greetings from Singapore:
Let me summarize the present situation, as I see it (as a non-Russian):
A. Outside Russia:
1. Ukraine, as it is today will not last:
a. There is not sufficient money in the EU or the IMF to keep this country afloat.
b. The political groups sustaining Kiev are fighting and will destroy themselves.
c. Novorrosiya now exists and will not dissappear.
B. In Russia:
a. Putin is in charge and this is the main assumption I have.
b. Dissent: This crisis enables Putin to clean up with dissenters: Oligarchs, Atlanticists and Nationalists.
c. Sanctions are a good excuse to kick start a sustainable import-substitution economy and re-direct your focus from Europe to Asia.
d. Crimea belongs to Russia and the West has swallowed this. The Navy of the RF keeps a base in the Black Sea.
In other words:
If I may prioritize what is important to Putin:
(1) Crimea is Russia and it is now a permanent base of the RF.
(2) For Russia to advance it needs to put his house in order politically and economically.
(3) Novorrosiya is an Ukranian affair, but might not be in the future and this depends mostly of the Novorrusiyans. Russia can only assist.

So much for the signing in Minsk: a buffer zone and some sort of peace deal. I’ll wait to read more details; Mr. Saker’s insights; and Miadan 3 b/c as sure as there are little green apples, the Right Sector naz ain’t done.

While the talks were on, Reuters reported a Munitions Factory in Donetsk was shelled
Take a look – Reuters has a bunch of photos
(Reuters) – The Ukrainian city of Donetsk was rocked by blasts on Saturday, even as government forces and pro-Russian separatists prepared to create a buffer zone to separate the warring sides.
A memorandum signed early on Saturday calls for the withdrawal of heavy weapons, including artillery, and all foreign fighters from a 30 kilometer-wide buffer zone.
A Reuters correspondent in Donetsk, the main industrial hub in Ukraine’s turbulent east, said several powerful explosions were heard in the morning. A plant producing munitions and industrial explosives had been hit, municipal authorities said.[.]
A nine-point memorandum was signed earlier in the day in the Belarussian capital of Minsk by the separatists and envoys from Moscow and Kiev.
“According to the text of the memorandum, each of the sides must pull back its heavy equipment and arms from today,” Volodymyr Polyovy, an official of Ukraine’s national security and defense council, told journalists.
The Minsk deal, which was also supported by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), is an attempt to build on a Sept. 5 ceasefire agreement which has been regularly violated.
[.]
A humanitarian convoy of about 250 trucks from Russia arrived on the outskirts of Donetsk, though Ukrainian officials said they had crossed from Russia without authorization and in violation of international law.
. . . .
{Comment: we should send a Memo to the Reuters’ editor; it is established in international law by the International Court of Justice. ..specific to the delivery of humanitarian aid as “urgent and necessary, a duty of care” and crossing sovereign boundaries for aid delivery is not a violation of international law.}

We are in the world of primitive thinking of the Dibuks, Kabbalists, Golems, Incubi, Succubi.
India like Russia have been taken over by Europeans. At least those in power have been trying to segregate the non-Europeans into lower positions of servitude. This ying-yang has really been going on for a while but the Europeans cant seem to wipe out the others no matter what. Chinese are entirely different, a very closed society and it seems they have learnt what is happening. Now why the Japanese and Koreans are not with the Chinese is a good question. All this happens on an unconscious level. But still, They all have the same ancestors who were targeted for extermination eons ago. One would think they would by now overtly know that they are being manipulated as being enemies to each other. If china is destroyed I highly doubt the koreans and japanese would be left alone even for servitude. They have the Indians for that. Just look at the British for that. Where ever you saw a British officer, there were 10 Indians with him to wash his feet. You never saw a chiense or african or arab there..
Thank you Saker for this very funny piece. I appreciate and my little son too.
Brian :
“I keep wondering why it is so hard to settle these issues which impair constructive developments.”
India china war in 1962. I never figured out why china invaded. All I am sure is Nehru was a talking head, he was not capable of having any role to have China invading India.
One might assume it is Dala Lama, who migrated out of tibet around 1960. China takes a hardline view on him. When China was not powerful, they might have felt threatened by Dalai Lama, and therefore supported Pakisthan against India.
However Dalai Lama is more of a cultural and religious leader, it was very heart of India to respect a monk. He has become an Indian.
“India like Russia have been taken over by Europeans. At least those in power have been trying to segregate the non-Europeans into lower positions of servitude. This ying-yang has really been going on for a while but the Europeans cant seem to wipe out the others no matter what”
Mother India is graceful and independent even when there are thousand cuts. Those who are victorious can always go to london than looking to India in her feet. Therefore there is a deadlock.
BTW Saker : Imperialists and A. Roy attacked the same people for a long time. Roy is not of same stature as Gandhi. Gandhi re-convinced billions their destiny in non-violence ( Think of that ! ). Roy has potential to drive multiple color revolutions, She can spew venom faster than the Ukrainian politician you had put in your site with a snake’s tongue. I am wondering, whether A Roy quote really doesn’t belong in your site.
Nupura
Following up on my comments that Arundhoty Roy, Awarded booker prize by the empire, Roy has potential to lead so many color revolutions :
(1) She calls armed naxalites as Gandhians. The naxalites are armed revolutionaries, little less brutal than the ISIS – they drag out people from their families and shoot them at the end of the village rather than infront of their family. However that doesn’t make them Gandhians.
(2) Roy asked to see mumbai terrorist attacks in wider context of poverty and violence in the region.
(3) In a rare act of prosecution, Indians had captured a terrorist who had attacked Indian parliament. Roy called the terrorist a prisoner of war.
(4) Delhi police had a sedition case against Roy after she gave anti-India separatist speeches speech with few other Separatists leaders. She had friends in central govt and media, the case was not persued.
Indian writer Tavleen Singh called Roy’s comments “the latest of her series of hysterical diatribes against India and all things Indian.”
Nupura.
Obviously,I am not Ukrainian, but I DO wonder this. Why is the Vineyard of the saker NOT reproduced in that language? Surely the greatest importance is to be placed on where it matters most? People that could swing it all around need the REAL info, not their goggle boxes of neo-con propaganda? Are you saying that EVERY single Ukrainian can read Russian,so no need? What if there are millions who,at present,do not believe a word that comes from a Russian voice,or refuses to read Russian from fear or principle? I know the educated speak English from personal experience at Valencia airport, but the majority?

What did “Onward to victory” mean in real-world terms?
Massacring 10,000 Ukrainian troops in the cauldrons? Earth movers and mass graves?
How many generations (centuries?) before that one ceased to be a stench in the nostrils of Ukraine and humanity?

WizOz, Saddam was given the Haman of the Age award just before the destruction of his country began its latest phase in 2003. As I’m sure you know, Iraq was the Arab state slated for destruction first in Oded Yinon’s ‘Zionist Plan for the Middle East’. Its scientific and educational stature was attacked by Mossad with the wave of assassinations of intellectuals that followed the 2003 aggression. That Putin has this year’s award shows that the Elders of Israel are determined to finish the looting that proceeded so well under the vodka receptacle Yeltsin.
