Your solace in these times sent to you by god.
I remember when I was young and the “The Wall” was published – for me was then and is still one of the real eternal masterpieces of mankind on the same level like Bach et aliud.
Irreversibel connected to this man.
Night has fallen over the old continent – wish you a good one.
Regards – Chris
Thank you for posting this Saker!
I absolutely echo your sentiments. And I can see why you can relate so profoundly…you are fellow warriors…you and Roger are in essence ‘Brothers in Arms’…you fight the very same enemy [what I refer to as the 3Ns], just using different mediums.
I had the extraordinary privilege of attending his “Us and Them” show in Auckland NZ 2018.
It was far and away the musical-event highlight of my life.
The surreal music, the sublime musical talent, and the powerful political messages all combined to provide the most spine-tingling and emotional public experience I could ever imagine.
Best regards
Col
Col, they are ‘Brothers in Arms’ because we are all in Dire Straits.
Ain’t that the sad truth Ralph!
Too witty not to offer a clap on the shoulder. Well done.
Just don’t listen to this when you’ve just woken up and the softness of sleep still lies over you, and the first birds are almost not yet singing and before you’ve armored up for a new day. Tears come easily during that slow movement from sleep to wake.
Great Song! Great warrior!
Indeed he is ! Unlike Jagger‘s and Grohl‘s clueless Eazy Sleazy End of Lockdown Song
OK, I’ll give you that, the song from Jagger/Grohl is right up there with Mirror Ball, mindless air play pop, but after listening to (on repeat) Medicine At Midnight I`d go as far as to say, Mick asked Dave for a favour as Mick is so passe and Dave, well, spin the new Foos, worth every penny of the groove………Bowie would be proud.
Cheers, M
I had the CD 20 years ago, « amused to death ». Very interesting and uncommon. Sounded amazing too.
Very timely the whole lockdown session of Roger Waters & Band and, like always, remembering mankind of our most imminent threats. I just hope we won’t see “two suns in the sunset” …
Cheers from Brazil
I’ve had a copy for thirty years. And it holds up a as a fine pop record.
But beyond that, not so much. The more I have learned about the world and how it works, the less impressive Waters’ fossilized limousine liberal views are to me. He’s like a rock star version of Tony Benn. The problem with that generation is they never grew up and so growing old, gracefully or not, is something they are particularly bad at.
Sorry Saker, but this version of “Bravery” is so weak it is almost on life support.
Pop music implies reaching the masses, so I consider that an achievement. And yes, from that position he could have adapted the lyrics to fit the treacherousness that led to the “two sunsets of 2021”.
Out of interest, are there artists that you would call more outspoken and far reaching? Please share. Now this kind of music is more needed than ever.
Not easy to find for me. Most I found in popular culture seem controlled opposition types, not genuine.
The Pink Floyd legacy and sound quality of Roger Waters’s work forces even die-hard audiophiles to listen to the messages over and over even if “they don’t agree with the statements”… That’s an achievement, to penetrate where others can’t without help of mainstream broadcast.
After 20 years of ignoring “amused to death” while trying to amuse myself to death, it finally reached me… but then again, I had only a limited number of listen only recently and it fit pretty well the times.
Lack of sophistication or maturity in some of Roger Waters’ lyrics and statements? Sure, but check the “leaders”, it’s their kind of language.
I like the poetic endings on “is this the life we really want”, the record ages beyond Trump time pretty well unfortunately.
@Some Dude
I could agree if Waters has been like Bono, a liberal profiting on Wall Street’s artificial soft value campaigns.
But Waters is the real stuff. Human spirit and soul of the 1970’es. Musicians who engaged in the Vietnam war and had something to say and who my children today love and envy our generation for.
Its difficult to find soul in Anglo music today. Today’s children can easily hear and see the difference.
So when a man does his best to use his skills to engage with us and humanity, we should not be narrow minded judges pointing out details he should or could have done different, to pretend we are better from our armchair.
We should praise the guys who give of themselves in Christ’s spirit and light. Otherwise we will only contribute to the darkness.
Maybe this time the neolib/neocon bastards won’t be as far out of range as they imagine.
don’t face them injuns,
starve them,
kill their buffalo!
Wow, brilliance shines through these dark times! I’m proud of who I am, who we were and what we (our generation) stood for. Now they’re trying to erase us but they will never succeed. Our legacy will smash the woke facade and our artistic expressions will forever remain while their’s will find a quick extinction. Great post Saker, Roger Water’s wisdom is deeply embedded in my soul, this song kills it, no, destroys it!!!!
I Love this guy
I also find watching the Lord of the Rings inspiring and a very good metaphor for what we must do to survive.
Especially the Return of the King (when they fight Mordor – a great metaphor for JUSSA of today
Like Frodo, Elves etc,,,,we must all unite or all is lost: humans, Karens, Soyboys, trannies.. midgets etc
I’ve squeeze off too many shots in my life. Would it be possible to fill in the blanks in my hearing and give us the words.
Many thanks for your efforts to open minds.
