A full scale armed insurrection seems to be taking place in the center of Kiev. RT reports 7 dead policemen, 11 dead civilians. 135 cops have been hospitalized, 35 are in critical condition. A total of 221 people have sought medical attention, 114 of them were hospitalized. The offices of the Regions Party of Yanukovich have been torched. The opposition leaders are demanding a constitutional change and Yanukovich’s departure. Communist deputies have been assaulted and beaten up in the Parliament when they attempted to leave the building.
The Imperial High Command has declared that it was “appalled” by the violence, saying “force will not resolve the crisis”. “To restore peace and stability, we urge President Yanukovych to de-escalate immediately the situation and end the confrontation”. “We also urge him to restart a dialogue with opposition leaders today.”
Personally, I do not see either side backing down. And, mind you, by “side” I mean, on one hand, the pro-Western Zapadentsy and their neo-Nazi allies and, on the other hand, the south and eastern regions of the Ukraine. The way I see it, Yanukovich is not even really a “party” to this conflict, only a completely irresponsible and, frankly, stupid politician who bears a huge responsibility for the current situation (he very much reminds me of Kerensky).
Could a civil war still be avoided? Probably yes, but only by a regime willing to do what *any* normal regime would do: fully restore law and order. Everywhere and unconditionally. That means introducing martial law in the entire country, shooting all armed insurgents on sight, jailing all rioters and those who openly back them: Klitschko, Yatsenyuk, Tyagnibok and all their aides. This means to do what Stolypin did in 1906. Alas, there is no “Ukrainian Stolypin”. All I see is a lame, pathetic and clueless idiot on one side and a gang of ruthless terrorists on the other. Exactly what took place in 1917. We all know how this one ended…
Just as I wrote in November of last year, the gates of Hell are now opening for the Ukraine. Looking at the latest footage out of Kiev (see below), I am only comforted in my conclusion that Russia should absolutely stay out of this conflict unless the Ukrainian nationalists attempt to take control of the Crimean Peninsula by force. But short of this very extreme development, I think that Russia should resist any pressure to get involved. The Ukies wanted their independence? Let them have it!

Here is some footage of the battles fought tonight in Kiev (thanks E.P.!):

Man, this is very disturbing.
At the beginning of the Yugoslav civil wars, army was waiting for the order to take care against the separatists in slovenia & croatia that were supported by Germany & vatican. It never came. Instead, the army was drawn into the civil war which followed & spread to Bosnia & Kosovo later on according to the same recepy.
The situation in Ukraine is identical except for no federal borders defined between the antagonistic parts of the population.
Now the western goons are talking about the Hague tribunal for those who oppose the “peaceful” protesters. In other words, they are to be blamed if they defend their country from the zionist-instigated neonazis – same as we Serbs in the ex-YU were.
Key question is: if the separatists were stopped at the beginning before the situation got out of control, wouldn’t the defendors of the constitution be accused regardless & the separatist forces helped out afterwards to fight against the “evil government which kills its own people?”
The only way out, I congecture, is for people to get self-organized & defend the territories where there is still peace as to limit the conflict to a minimum.
What really makes me mad is the fact that the true organizers of the bloodshed, i.e., the zionazs from fashington, london, paris (even that ghool Bernard Levi visited the Kiev a week ago), & elsewhere, will not be held to account, just like:
– Warren Zimmerman (the last US ambasador to YU) who promissed the whole Bosnia to Muslims & so started the war
– William Walker (who staged the Rachak masakre as the trigger for the nato bombing of Serbia)
– Tony Blair (the architect of the first Iraqi war)
– etc., etc.
No greater evil ever existed on the face of the planet Earth than the US-EU zionazi regime!
I agree that Russia should not be drawn into the conflict except in the extreme circumstances. But it should help on organizing local population to protect the peace wherever possible & so slowely close in on the fasciost scum in their isolated areas where police/army could take care of them.
Things seem ugly enough. Something very similar has started in Venezuela… Could it be that puppetteers in Washington are giving a final push?

It is impossible to imagine any “western” country that had its capitol full of rioters – armed with guns no less and killing police officers wholesale – not replying with brutal armed force.
It it high time the Ukraine put an end to this nonsense. Who in their right mind could call these “peaceful protestors”? Besides CNN, MSNBC, BBC, of course.
@Ana
Sure. They are attacking on all fronts while the games are going on in Sochi. I would be surprised if Syria stays intact as well.
Western Ukraine should be let go to Europe. I believe EU is hardly happy at the prospect of integrating that nationalistic, anti-semitic, homophobic and ultimately anti-European cancer unless it completely lost its mind. It would be a “gift” (in its German sense=poison). But it can be a verification of the old Latin adage: Quos vult perdere Jupiter prius dementat.
I might read to much in the events, but I can’t shake the feeling that the old dreams of Mittropa or of “The League of East European States (osteuropäischer Staatenbund)”, still haunt the big manipulators.

At guest77,
You can add to the list CBC, both English and French (SRC). Same BS!
@WizOz:Western Ukraine should be let go to Europe
I wholeheartedly agree. Not only can Russia not afford any kind of “union” (economic or other) with rabid nationalists, neo-Nazis, hysterical Russophobes, neither can any kind of Ukraine, whether fully independent, or in some form of union with Russia, afford to include such wannabe stormtroopers within its borders. This scum belongs to the EU and only to the EU: the West Europeans have created this nationalism, they have lovingly fed it for decades and centuries, they are still supporting them now – so let them deal it and the let EU bureaucrats and the Ukie Nazis have a love fest together, as long as they leave the decent people of the Ukraine alone and as long as they don’t expect Russia to pay the bill for their festivities.

Do these jerks really think for a second that John McCain actually gives a shit about them? That he wouldn’t see every mom in the Ukraine be killed just to give Putin a bad half-hour?
The blood is flowing freely now. This is the day the US neo-cons has been waiting for. This is the day their $5 Billion “investment” paid off.
The “west” absolutely requires this kind of violence for their plans. They have to rip up these states up so they cannot be put back together again. Every death in Ukraine is a family that won’t ever forgive that fact. Every murderer is someone else who won’t ever fit themselves back into society.
Push them into chaos. Reduce them to barbarism and poverty and let them do it themselves. Just ask the Sunni and Shia how this all works.
Playing politics to win the presidency of a country? That’s child’s play. This is how you make history. This is how you start ethnic blood feuds that kill hundreds of thousands. This is how you manipulate whole continents from 8000 miles away. This is how you make the cuts so that the wound never heals.
This is the purest of evil – 10,000 years old. This is empire building.
Drawing parallels 1905 to what is happening in Ukraine now and bolsheviks in 1917 to the “Right sector” indicates extremely poor knowledge of history.
1905 was a sustained revolution with dozens of nation-wide strikes, protests, and riots. What happens now in Ukraine is a joke in comparison. Moreover, it is an externally induced riot akin to other previous color revolution. Comparing it to the true national revolution of 1905 is a disgrace!
Bolsheviks in 1917 had vision and a program to take the country out of the crisis. And they did. Alternatives to their rule were all not pretty. Comparing them to the nazi punks who are financed and directed from abroad and have no vision or program for the country and are not capable of taking the power is laughable.
About the similarities with Yugoslavia, here´s a remainder with indisputable facts:

Same MO all over the world. Egypt also had a taste of it. Hopefully we had general Sisi to clean up by doing exactly what you suggested, and by neutralizing all those foreign NGO’s, rounding up all the top brass of the MB skums, then proceeding downwards until order was restored. What’s “funny” is that after all that, egypt now feels more free and has better prospects than at anny time since god knows when… Obviously this was all possible because Sisi actually had the full support of the people and they showed up by the millions in the Streets to support the army.
The Ukranian government is in a double bind. To react with brute force – the only real option for resolving the riots – would also be throwing a bone for western media and politics. And it would also enrage the rest of the duped population who actualy believe them – yes it’s their fault that they’re blind, however, they’re still a part of a so-called democratic process and that would probably mean a pivot towards west in the next government term. Assuming they even get peacefully to the next election without the west opening a can of democracy on Ukraine.
On the other hand trying to peacfully persuade people to stop with the violence is boosting the ego of the rioters and fueling even greater conflicts. When you kill 9 police officers and 16 fellow protesters and still nothing happens to you tends to have such an effect.
There is no middle way in this one. If there even is a way. In any case the government is going to be portrayed as the villain. I’m not saying they’re saints or even good at their job, still in this perspective they’re not the ones to blame for the violence.
I sure as hell would not want to be in the presidents position. Sure, fantasizing about what I would do in his situation from the comfort of my office or home is easy. However, looking at it from a real life perspective, there is only a lose-lose situation.
As one would argue that it seems easier and smarter to just crack down the whole thing by force. Still the question lingers in my mind: is [enter own figure] dead people now better than [enter own figure, multiply by 20] or more dead later? This cannot be justification for something that might happen, no matter what patterns history shows us.
I hope I made any sense at all.
Kind regards,
L
@L
you make perfect sense my friend.
Zionazis are using the mafia tactics: you regret if you refuse their offer, you regret if you accept it.
The most important thing here is to involve Russia & blame it for everything. But Russia has refrained from getting into that trap knowing it’s the prime target in this mess.
Polish prime minister, Tusk, is already blaming Russia for meddling into internal matters of Ukraine?! If that is not an example of sheer hipocracy, I don’t know what is.
However, having lived through an earely similar situation in ex-YU, nothing, & I mean it, nothing surprises me whatsoever!
What I don’t understand is why/how Russia didn’t learn anything from our Serbian experience, & how it failed to get prepaired for something identical they could expect on their doorstep – if they had any brains at all.
