The 70th anniversary of Victory Day in Moscow was monumental for a few primary reasons (Shoigu’s solemn reverence, Russian-Chinese friendship ), not least among them the fact that it symbolized the utter death of any Color Revolutionary hopes the West may have still been harboring from the early 2000s. The patriotic resistance on display didn’t subside when the record-setting parade ended, but instead was uplifted to epic proportions during the march of the Immortal Regiment when families paid tribute to their loved ones that served in the war. This emotional outpouring of historical memory saw over half a million people take to the streets in Moscow alone, including President Putin , demonstrating that the Great Patriotic War was truly the great equalizer in transcending ethnic and social lines and unifying Soviet society. It’s critical to emphasize the national solidarity that the Victory Day commemorations provoked because it’s precisely this feeling of widespread inclusive patriotism that is the most effective defense against Color Revolutions today.
Historical Weapons
The author recently wrote about the US’ utilization of historical memory as a postmodern weapon, but it’s necessary to revisit a few of the main points for the context of this article. In sum, the US deep state apparatus realizes that the myriad patchwork of memories (oftentimes contradictory to one another) stretching across Eurasia provides fertile ground for cultivating modern-day divisions between partners. If the countries of Eurasia can remain decisively divided due to the ghosts of the past, then the transcontinental integration plans promoted by Russia and China would come to naught, and consequently, the US could indefinitely prolong its hegemony over Eurasia by continuing to roost in key perches. The most notorious application of this strategy is the US’ support of extreme Ukrainian nationalism and Fascist-era memory in its quest to turn the country into a bastion of anti-Russian hate, but the assistance it’s providing to Japan’s remilitarization project against China is also a case in point.
Historical Vulnerabilities
Russia and China may have difficulty in countering the misleading historical narratives that the US is weaving into the minds of impressionable Ukrainians and Japanese owing to the unipolar mainstream information dominance underway in those countries (and the outright censorship that’s ongoing in Ukraine right now), but they have a lot more success and flexibility in defending against this perversion of historical memory within their own domains. Each of these two Eurasian anchors is multicultural, and thus, inherently vulnerable to the weaponization of information and historical memory spread by subversive media campaigns (through both traditional and online media) and intelligence-front NGOs.
While these two Resistant & Defiant states have taken proactive measures in countering this threat before it’s exploited out of all sense of control, there will always remain the possibility that certain far-reaching historical episodes could perpetually be summoned to detract from national unity-building efforts. In the case of Russia, this is the Stalinist period, while for China, this is the Great Leap Forward and the Great Cultural Revolution. The US’ intention is to provoke anti-government unrest that’s more inclusive than the identity-based destabilization that specifically targets national minorities, and in many cases, the frequent campaigns (none of which appear to have any realistic chance at succeeding) are nothing more than experimental test measures designed to procure intelligence on counter-strategies and audience reception in anticipation of a more serious forthcoming offensive.
Historical Armor
Be that as it may, the latest Victory Day commemorations proved that the US is pursuing a failed strategy that will definitely not succeed against Russia even in its wildest of dreams. 9 May, 2015 resolutely demonstrated that Russian citizens from all social classes, races, religions, political dispositions, and backgrounds are capable of naturally coming together to celebrate their country and retain its proper historical memory. The emphasis here is on the natural, organic part of the commemorations, in that the audience’s cheering of the military parade and participation in the Immortal Regiment was completely voluntary and something that they did on their own prerogative.
Contrast this innate patriotism and its visible mass expressions with the forced and artificially constructed nature of Color Revolutions, which need to be cooked up abroad and meticulously groomed throughout their life cycle. Whereas the manifestations all throughout Russia on 9 May enjoyed full popular support, Color Revolutions only garner the illusion of such support, since nifty perception management techniques are a must in order to trick the target audience (both domestic and abroad) into believing that the movement is much more popular than it truly is. An apt comparison is to associate last weekend’s events with an organic vegetable and Color Revolutions with their GMO counterpart; they both look real, but only one is natural while the other required years of research and development in order to perfect, and even then, it’s still fake to the core and an abomination to nature (no matter how it looks on the outside).
What Russian citizens demonstrated all across their country on 9 May (and what they unite in understanding together with their Chinese counterparts) is the absolute opposite of what the US has in mind for overthrowing the Russian government, and as such, it actually serves as the perfect antidote for countering Washington’s plans. The historical armor mentioned as the title for this sub-section thus refers to organic patriotic-historical manifestations on par with those witnessed in Russia last weekend that reinforce national unity and reject the false and antagonistic narratives. Depending on the event, this could more than compensate for any unfortunate historical incidents that risk being regularly exploited by provocateur forces (e.g. the Stalinist period). Taking it a step further, historical armor can be fortified by proper patriotic education in schools and the establishment of supportive NGOs, and when these three combine with the occasional patriotic-historical manifestation, the resultant effect can cleanse the country of any negative aftereffects from failed Color Revolutionary initiatives.
The Lessons Of History
Russia and China are immune from the US’ Color Revolution intrigues provided that they continually practice the patriotic-historical regimen of proper school education, supportive NGOs, and regular manifestations. The same, however, cannot be as easily said for states that don’t have as unified and long of a legacy as these two large civilizations. While all countries have their own history and a lot to be proud of, many of them have arbitrary borders sometimes not even of their own making or unrepresentative of their ideal vision of stability (e.g. most former colonial states). In these cases, there absolutely needs to be a unifying ideology capable of bringing together the disparate parts of society, both physically (in terms of demographics) and historically (in terms of memory).
Syria:
The reason that Syria succeeded in repelling the Color Revolution attempt unleashed upon it in 2011 (which subsequently transformed into an Unconventional War that continued to push the failed regime change goal) was because of the civilizational and political solidarity of the Syrian people. The country, while being geographically small, is disproportionately rich in history and has always been a cosmopolitan place. Additionally, the vast majority of its citizens understand and respect the modernizing and stabilizing force that the Baath Party has been during the tumultuous post-independence period, ergo their support for the legitimate authorities and widespread rejection of the (mostly foreign-imported) Color Revolutionaries. Had there not been considerable and sincere domestic support for the Syrian authorities among the overwhelming majority of the population, the government would have collapsed a long time ago and the people would not have continued to fight and die for over four years in trying to save their cherished secular civilization-state.
Ukraine:
Syria is a great example of a small country that successfully resisted the Color Revolution offensive unexpectedly thrust upon it, but Ukraine represents its opposite – a moderately large country that failed in repelling the regime change revolution. The reason this happened is precisely because it had no unifying ideology with which to incorporate the disparate people caught in its arbitrary borders after 1991. Be it the Russians, Hungarians, Ruthenians, Crimean Tatars, or even Ukrainians themselves, no actual group definitively felt satisfied in Ukraine. While the minorities were (and still are) consistently clamoring for their rights and increased representation, the majority Ukrainians weren’t happy with the power they were allotted and continued to want more. Under such contradictory conditions, when the governing apparatus that somewhat impossibly held everything together for over two decades was violently vanquished by nationalist urban terrorists, the largest minority stakeholder in Ukraine, the Russian population, decided to throw in the towel and secede from the failed state.
Looking back on it and incorporating the lessons articulated in this article, it didn’t have to be that way at all. The territory of Ukraine is host to the magnificent civilizational legacy of Kievan Rus, and instead of behaving divisively and chauvinistically per their characteristic inferiority complex vis-à-vis Russians, the Ukrainians could have celebrated this common heritage and used it as a bridge for building better relations with their neighbor. After all, the Russian Federation is the latest successor state to the ancient entity that the territory of modern-day Ukraine gave birth to, and it would make absolute sense for both fraternal nations to have moved as close as possible in the post-independence years. For example, Ukraine could have used its shared civilizational heritage with Russia as a springboard for possibility creating its own Union State format like that between Russia and Belarus. Sadly, however, Ukrainian leaders didn’t see it this way, and thus, Russia’s well-intentioned outreaches all throughout the post-independence period were largely rejected or exploited for the personal gain of Ukraine’s oligarchy. Therefore, when the US was ready to strike at the heart of Eastern Europe using its latest asymmetrical regime change tactics, it unsurprisingly encountered scant significant resistance and was able to succeed in both instances.
Concluding Thoughts
Historical memory is alive today, and instead of being some kind of fossilized concept locked away in a library, it’s an active concept that’s tangibly manifested on streets all across the world. In some cases, it’s passive and being promoted without any political consideration whatsoever, but more often than not, the trend has been for proponents to recognize the influence it has on the minds of millions and to adapt accordingly. The US has begun militarizing history in order to achieve its geopolitical objectives, while Russia, China, and Syria have traditionally used their histories as bastions of defense for their civilizations. The postmodern struggle between historical falsification and manipulation led by the US versus the stalwart defense of proud and unifying historical facts as embodied by the aforementioned three actors is only now beginning to play out.
As such, it’s forecasted that repeat scenarios of the ‘historical destabilization’ that was witnessed in Ukraine, for example, will soon become the new fifth column norm in opening the gates for further information (“pro-democracy”) infiltration and its consequent regime change-oriented objectives. While Russia and China are at the forefront of the ‘vaccination’ program against this ‘historic disease’ spread by US information agents, smaller states such as Syria and Ukraine will continually remain the targets of this accelerating warfare trend, despite Washington having achieved vastly different results in each case. The Syrias of the world will succeed in their defiant resistance (but likely pay the price for their patriotism) while the Ukraines will crumble into pieces or descend into a dystopian hyper-authoritarian nightmare. Conclusively, the question that similarly positioned states on the Eurasian chessboard should be asking themselves is whether they’re capable of defending their history like Syria or if they would pathetically capitulate like Ukraine.
Well, there is little risk that the USA itself will be destabilized by an appeal to the historical memory of its original inhabitants – the Native Americans. If only because there are so damn few of them left alive. It seems that, when perpetrating genocide, it pays to be thorough – just as, in days gone by, vendettas and feuds extended to exterminating the whole family of an enemy, to prevent any future retaliation.
But considering that American society has always been held together by the love of money and the wholly illusory belief that anyone can succeed through talent and hard work, perhaps it will come unglued when enough people see through the illusion. As George Carlin pointed out, the reason it’s called “The American Dream” is that you have to be asleep to believe in it.
” illusory belief that anyone can succeed ”
It is actually true, “anyone” can succeed. Insert “everyone” instead, then it fits.
George Carlin. One of the smartest Americans to ever live. The US became noticeably worse after he died. No commedian to my knowledge has been able to criticize the Americans with such glorious hateful hostility. A shame that his closest replacement is Louis CK — A pathetic, self loathing disgruntled family guy who rips off Carlin’s jokes, and delivers them terribly, at that. His Russian jokes make him all the more disgusting.
There are actually very many American Indians around and in many cases have a quite vibrant community. The “they’re almost all dead” is part of a US historical revisionist campaign to try and make them “disappear.” Their recent rail, mining, and energy project blockades, especially in Canada, prove they are a force to be reckoned with, despite the US regimes continuing Indian wars.
There is no one close to George Carlin alive or dead that can duplicate the breathtaking honesty of the delivery – he was the ultimate in projecting the depravity of Washington DC and the stupidity of the American People – very few ever understood how his message was NOT a joke but an indictment of a Fascist system.
Bravo!
I always find the Marx Brothers, Groucho, Chico, Harpo, Zeppo, Gummo and Karlo, refreshingly subversive. Duck Soup in particular.
Check out Doug Stanhope. He’s much funnier than Louis CK but probably doesn’t have as big a following. He’s got a really funny bit about the jews that’s pretty easy to find (Google ‘fuck the jews’) plus he does a lot more about the American government and things like the killing of Osama bin Laden (“If you want a conspiracy theory to exist, *that’s* how you start it.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Awq5-o061fs
Forgot about Stanhope. Has some funny material, but not Carlin good. Still, better than nothing.
Bill Hicks came mighty close.
I’m living with one. I think her Indian name must be Night Owl since she rarely gets to bed before 2 am.
There are almost 3 million pure Native American Tribal people.About 2 million mixed blood people and untold millions of Americans with a small fraction of Native American genetics. Kind of like Mexico with their Mestizo population.Just way more white folks and black folks in the mix. Americans of all races creeds and colors are wakin up!
The current Native American population is estimated at 2.1 million to 18 million. From the 16th to 19th centuries populations of Indians sharply declined; smallpox & measles were a factor, as they had no immunity to them. By 1800 there were 600,000 and by 1890 250,000.
The colonial and early US govt treated them badly, reneging on treaties. There were fair-minded Americans at the time who tried to find ways to co-exist. (See link) However there are understandable difficulties between a nomadic, Stone Age people and immigrants building homesteads and railroads.
It strikes me that for all your bitter (and inaccurate) criticism of US treatment of the Indians that you have not benefitted the Indians either. You have not even troubled to make yourself aware of the facts in this paragraph. None of us can go back 200 years to prevent the Indian wars or treaty violations.
It is interesting that the Americans whom I have heard speak so judgementally of the US treatment of the Indians somehow never include themselves in the criticism; somehow I am guilty of what my ancestors did, but the speaker is not.

The Indian wars have not stopped. The military aspect of it is in “soft” mode. If you look at an American atlas map, you’ll notice that military bases and reservations are oddly close to Indian reservations. It is also true that Indian reservations are still considered prisoner of war camps, where the prisoners have no constitutional rights.
The military now bombs and posions land (close to indian reservations) and destroys any possibility of sustenance, much like how during the earlier phases of the Indian wars focused on transit route attacks and village attacks. The navy, for example, is planning to conduct “sonar exercises” near the Alaska coast during Jade Helm 15. This is expected to decimate sea life, and, in particular salmon populations for which local Indians in the area rely on. Repeat of the anti buffalo campaign, essentially. Mining and nuclear waste is dumped on already depleted reservation land.
But oter than that, the WASP campaign downshifted to a pschological and political war against Indians. mass propaganda campaigns have been initiated to make Indians “disappear.” Talking about genocide and “wiping out” the Indian population is meant to deceive people into thinking there are hardly any left (there are many). There is revisionist nonsense (they sold the land to the pilgirms). And there is academic propaganda (crossing over the Bering strait, therefore they are not native; “overkill” hypothesis, in order to make them appear just as bad as WASPS). All of these are garbage of course, but people are actually believing it. Vine Deloria Jr is a pertinent writer on this topic.
Then there is the theft of their culture by lost, spiritually dead white people who want to feel like they’re a part of something important. This is the equivalent of nazis actually practicing Judaism, while doing what nazis do. There are actually legal entities formed by white people that have Indian names. There are fake white shamans that mope around charging money for fake “shaman” ritual “workshops” and of course write books and make other forms of merchandise. If one has been to Hawaii, they can witness the theft of Indian culture in all its hellish disgrace. That South Park episode was actually a good demonstration of how it is done. This started in the sixties during the hippy horde and the Carlos Castaneda fraud, and has been getting worse ever since.
Next is the Casinos. People are deceived into thinking that it is to the benefit of the Indians, and in rare cases it is. But by and large all of these casinos are owned by Wall Street, and, with the exception of a few corrupt Casino management Indians, the profits go to Wall Street.
Did you think that boarding schools were a thing of the past for Indians? They are still happening. Federal grants have been given to state “Child Protection Services” to kidnap Indian children and herd them into boarding schools, to escape poverty for their own safety of course. These prisons are populated by rapist prison guards who routinely rape Indian children. There have been instances of where children would be drugged to the point of nose bleeds, and then the prison guards would super glue their noses shut to stop the nose bleeds.
There are books and entire movements that go into far greater detail about this, and unfortunately, these are just a few of the modern attacks that the occupation government is using. But the point is that the Indian wars are still happening. If you exclude AIDS, Indian reservations have the lowest life expectancy in the western hemisphere. They are the only group who has a higher suicide rate than white people, and for good reason. They are still in rural prisoner of war camps that have no viable land to live on. The food is poisoned. The water is poisoned. The Indian wars continue. The white invader ancestors were responsible and guilty for the earlier stages of the Indian wars. Their descendants of today are responsible and guilty for the Indian wars happening right now.
thank you anonymous, for speaking truth!
@the Native Americans
If you refer to the Sioux, Comanches, e.a. as “the Native Americans”, there is indeed little risk, if any, that USA will be destabilized by an appeal to their historical memory.
But what about the completely different proposition of the ancient civilizations of the Mayans, Olmecs, Aztecs, peoples who built empires in America prior to the WASPS invasion? Who have not lost the memory of their history and have the means to reclaim it? What about the Chicano Movement and the idea of the República del Norte (Republic of the North) the sovereign Hispanic nation that would encompass the Northern Mexico, Baja California, California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and southern Colorado?
Chicano movement functionally already won. They are a tight group on a tight ship. Hard working. Family people. Raising their kids to be useful at an early age. And they are everywhere. Having the amount of children the have ensures at least a stable population.
WASPS? Dysfunctional families are the norm. They rape and beat their own kids. They are commiting suicide. They’re on drugs. They can’t get married for any length of time. Their kids are worthless and weak. Latinos (and blacks if you include WASP created private prison labor) can and do everything physical but still have remnants of WASP managment parasites (not to insult parasites) that cannibalize their labor. Remember when one of those southern states pulled off some kind of anti-immigrant (anti-latino) law and the entire agriculture industry was in trouble? Did all of those hard working WASPS fill the ranks? Nope, they walked off the job in days. Too weak and lazy, and just fine taking their welfare checks.
All the latinos have to do is wait for these job stealing, illegal immigrant WASPS to go back to their third world sewers from which they came. Or more likely wait for them to die off. Won’t take that long, by the looks of it. Too bad the WASP destroyed all of the land and water.
Huge analysis for a very simple matter – Ukraine is a Vatican linchpin and they were only successful there because they had that artificial line of division that worked so fine in many countries already, see Yugoslavia for example. In all those cases, the catholic “church” played a major role as the driver and feeder of the conflict.
There was no such faction in Syria, so they had to use what they got – the islamist idiots. As you can see, it doesn’t work nearly as well, being a two-edged sword that it is.
What rubbish you write
“see Yugoslavia for example. In all those cases, the catholic “church” played a major role as the driver and feeder of the conflict”.
Bigger than Nato bombs perhaps? and the US determination to gain a massive base in Kosovo ? from which to launch further attacks, perhaps against Macedonia or Serbia again
I don’t think it’s rubbish. There’s an interview with French general Pierre Marie Gallois on Youtube, in which he describes how meetings were hosted in Germany in 1976/77 (yes) on how to find a different State organization for Yugoslavia. The meetings were hosted by Franz-Josef Strauß, and there were participants from (at least) Britain, Spain, France and the Vatican.
The French general has his interpretation of what drove Germany to pursue that policy, which I don’t agree with, but on the whole, Germany’s very negative and destructive role vis-a-vis Yugoslavia cannot be denied.
Now, personally, I’m neutral vis-a-vis various churches (not belonging to any myself), but it does seem to me that the Catholic Church is not just an innocent church caring about the souls of its faithful people.
On the other hand, I’ll refrain from church bashing because my gut feeling is that the people pursueing it aggressively only work at the further erosion and destruction of Christian European civilization. That is, Christianity is to be replaced with something I call “Holügion” (Holo – Lüge – Religion). So let Catholics be catholic; the proposed alternative is much worse.
The West ensured that West Germany was a Nazi successor regime, ‘de-Nazification’ being kept superficial and for propaganda purposes only. The West German drive to destroy Yugoslavia was in return for services rendered by Croat, Slovene and Bosnian fascists during WW2. That also explains the actions of the Vatican, that so determinedly assisted fascists to escape justice after WW2, including major fascist Croat butchers. WW2 never ended, and the fascist mantle, and the job of protecting fascists who had fled the Red Army, was simply taken up by the West.
I’m all for justice. What about justice for the, ehm, democrats who committed the mass murders of Dresden, Tokyo, Hiroshima, Nagasaki, Hamburg (among others)? Such justice didn’t happen. Indeed, democrat crimes were so abject and beyond belief that it is impossible to do them justice. If you discount the hoaxes invented by anglozionist propaganda, the democrat war crimes were an order of magnitude above the German crimes.
There was no unambiguously good side in WW2, certainly not Stalin’s Soviet Union.
In the present, of course, it’s very different, and Russia and President Putin have all my support, without restriction.
Thank you for the link to the French general interview, although it’s subtitled in Serbian. I found this same interview subtitled in English at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XJL5x-Xq6c You can use that link or just search youtube for “General Pierre Marie Gallois english”.
It confirms an old suspicion of mine, that the dissolution of Yugoslavia, bombing of Serbia and theft of Serbian territories was maliciously and spitefully planned by Germany.
This interview is a historically precious document, specially because this general was an insider to the planning of this crime against the Serbian nation.
“maliciously and spitefully planned by Germany” – Possibly. But at whose behest? Who ended up seizing Kosovo? Still sitting there in a fat military camp? And who were the other actors? Look at the amazing coalition assembled against Serbia. Doesn’t excuse Germany, but not to mention Uncle Sam and the others (including France) would be a significant omission. Don’t forget Germany still is an occupied country, more so than France.
the catholic mafia found a friend/useful vehicle in ukraine. the photo op of yats and the pope comes to mind…..
This skipped some important points. One is the issue of where elites have their money. Syria’s elites are national, not based in London. Another issue is that many countries, including Syria and Libya, wanted to suck up to the West. Part of the deal is to disarm and stop programs that are popular with the masses, such as food subsidies. These deals may make those in cities or the well-to-do happy, but harm the poor and farmers. Finally, color revolutions are a bit of a misnomer. Kiev wasn’t taken by a color revolution, it was taken by a coup. Frequently, the color is cover for a coup.
As a side matter, one wonders if ideology isn’t quite relevant. Many countries that have had trouble in the last ten years, such as Syria, made it a point to have no ideology. This left the field open for Western agents. One could make the case that the Ukrainian case shows that no ideology leads to an eventual outbreak of a bad one.
Yes, the Maidan was a shootout, not a color revolution. Snipers and heavy violence crushing the Berkut who were protecting the naive students and hopeful anti-corruption citizens.
However, it still remains in the genre and was managed with means it needed to push out all democratic groups and elected officials.
Democracy was crushed at Maidan. That was the key.
The State Department and the EU needed to kill democracy and any hope of it returning. Ridding the government of the President was only the symbolism of the revolution. What mattered was there would never be any challengers to the stooges put in place.
The “cover” election of Porky and a Rada was pro forma “democracy”. Hell, Saddam held “elections”.
One year later, the hope of voting in reform is nonsense.
The US has this regime change technology well-oiled if not perfected.
Yes, as Andrew writes, there will be many more, over and over.
However, some new regional forces are entering the game. China, a stronger Russia and Iran know how to counter these moves. They all have faced this technology many times, if not continually.
The counter-measure is economic development. Eurasian development is garlic to the vampirism of color revolution. Full bellies don’t take to the streets. People with jobs don’t attack government buildings.
I always appreciate Andrew’s viewpoint. I read him everywhere he publishes. The man is timely and authoritative with his POV.
Thanks to Saker for giving Andrew a place in the Vineyard.
Thank you so much Larchmonter445!
Paul II, You said, “Part of the deal is to disarm and stop programs that are popular with the masses, such as food subsidies. These deals may make those in cities or the well-to-do happy, but harm the poor and farmers. Finally, color revolutions are a bit of a misnomer.”
Hard to see how food subsidies wd make the well-to-do happy while harming the poor & farmers.
Also, color revolution and coup are not mutually exclusive. Ukraine bore many of the features of a color revolution, then ended in an overt coup. Sometimes color revolutions end in a “regime change” w/o quite being a coup. But the METHOD in Ukraine, right up to the last day was that of a color revolution.
Well, as Tsarev said on TV, the color revolution had failed. This left a coup. The West had enough control of institutions in the Ukraine to pull off a coup, and that was the problem. It was a nation run by scumbag oligarchs, who would sell anything. The tragedy is that Russia had made little effort to build any institutions or long-term influence in the country. One of the many mysteries of this strange theatre.
The point about countries such as Syria or Egypt sucking up to the IMF and all the usual neoliberal nostrums is that they weaken the political infrastructure of the target country. Ban cheap food to the masses in Egypt, and then get a puppet front Saudi charity to give food to those same masses in exchange for radicalizing and damaging the popularity of the regime. However, neoliberal economics does have winners, typically those with money, foreign language skills, and internationally-oriented jobs and businesses in the big cities. Bet Assad would have done things differently if he had known what was coming. All those reforms contributed to not having enough support at the beginning of Syria’s troubles.
Problem was, if any country needed extra money, they really had no choices. The World Bank and IMF, left and right hands of the same hegemon.
With BRICS, AIIB, China generally… there are better, smarter and fairer ways to borrow money.
Most people want a chance to earn enough money to buy food and a roof over their heads, in a place where it’s safe to walk outside. And they want this in roughly the same measure as others around them are getting. It is a cruel trick of the colour-revolutioners to make people believe they’ll get better conditions from a ruler just because they voted for him.
One could make the case that the problem was the local elites, and their view that an IMFing of the country would profit them. It wasn’t really so obvious that the loans were that necessary. The main project Syria needed was gas. The IMF will only fund that if the country is smashed.
As for the naivety and stupidity of the masses, well, that is endless. But the other issue is that these old farts in parts of the old Soviet sphere did not know or understand the power of modern brainwashing. That is why serious mafia dons and people in places like the Kremlin didn’t seem to care about leaving their foreign policy in the hands of useless mini-level oligarchs like Zurabov and didn’t seem to care if the entire media in a country had a certain agenda.
I don’t see a difference between them either.Whether we call it a “color revolution” or a “coup” the result is the same. The government in power is overturned by force. A revolution could really be termed a “mass coup”.Most revolutions usually have several parts to them. The beginning mass protest phase, the seizure of power phase (coup), and then the purge of opponents phase. In Ukraine ,the first two phases are complete, and the third in process. There is a fourth phase as well that is ongoing. The counter-revolution/civil war phase. And that is the one I’m hoping triumphs in the end.
Colour Revolutions, if required, end in violent coups eg Belgrade, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan and the attempted putsch in Beijing in 1989, the proto-type Colour Revolution. Kiev was text-book, including the ‘mysterious’ snipers, like Caracas in 2002, and Syria in 2011.
A brilliant and unique (to me anyways) contribution to this dialogue is that this article emphasizes and gives label to the “myriad patchwork of memories” which serve as the foundation of any good manufactured revolution. The more quickly this is tool of Western exploitation is recognized for what it is – and a good label or “branding” is always effective at spreading awareness and understanding – the more easily some of the potential participants will realize that they’re being played by the empire.
Thank you!
The writer once again blows me away.Meticulous and concise, thanks Andrew.
Thank you! :-)
I agree, glad to be able to read you Andrew
Christine
“Proper patriotic education.” As a German, I’ve often thought about this. In school, we’re being taught lots of lies about our history. The lies that are taught in all Zio occupied countries, especially, it seems, in the United States, but also England and France.
History is important. It’s the ground on which patriotism grows. Destroy a nation’s history, and you destroy their patriotism.
Lots of bad things follow from there. People start looking for alternative identities. Like “I’m European!”, when the only continental European language they speak is German. Excessive egoism and materialism. Cultural degeneration. There’s then a time when the country is led by people who believe it should best be abolished. They’ll start promoting more degenerative trends. Resistence is marginal, because people have stopped believing. Lacking belief, they lack courage. Courage to step up for a common cause, that has been discredited and survives only at what is now said to be the right-wing radical margin. Whereas it should be mainstream.
True, people who don’t go for higher education are mostly immune to the reeducation crap. But it’s not them who’re going to advance into posts where they may decide things.
So Marx said that it is not consciousness of men that determines their being, but, on the contrary, their social being that determines their consciousness. Well, he was wrong, but still his sentence is neat … because it makes you think, and you’ll find that it actually works both ways, and non-deterministically so, of course. The point being that consciousness is greatly impressed by education – at home, at school, and in general all around in society, while you’re a kid and even later. But proper education lays a healthy basis, and it absolutely should be a patriotic basis.
Which is why I can understand and approve of Stalin seen in a more positive light in Russia now. There’s absolutely no point in projecting an insane hatred on your own history. (By the way, a Georgian acquaintance told me he is also viewed very favorably in Georgia.) Anyway, history can’t be changed. Stalin made lots of people suffer, and he played a role in starting the Great Patriotic War (see Suvorov’s Icebreaker) that is not officially acknowledged in Russia, but why rub that point in? He also took control of Russia at a very difficult moment and managed to lead her to superpower status. Yes, at great sacrifice, but he managed.
What could be gained by belabouring over and over again the fact that Stalin was bad and make it a focal point of national education? Nothing at all. So, it seems to me, Russia does the right thing in education.
And Germany – everything wrong. It’s called Nationalmasochismus. But careful, this expression is only used by right-wing radicals.
Imagine if Saker could have enough revenue support to assure that articles like this were on a Balkan Vineyard, a Turkic (Central Asia) Vineyard, etc.
If the most trenchant articles and the commentary flow (edited so trolls and OT were snipped) could be available in native languages, more millions of people would be aware of the psy-ops and “demos” manipulation in the streets and on their media.
It takes more than prayers and good thoughts and all of us being informed.
We need to mobilize better and reach the target populations. Yes, we’re doing well. We reach hundreds of thousands if you tally all the ‘views’ of all the Saker sites.
But a time has come to do more. At least, we must reach inside the social networks on the Internet in those target nations and make certain these topics are presented and sustained.
Same goes for the videos that bring the verifiable truth to the world. They need to be seen everywhere and sub-titled in languages relevant to the people.
The Resistance needs to get a bit organized and contribute an effort beyond self-education, self-expression and righteousness.
I suspect many good ideas and actions can result and help prevent color revolutions before they become bloody and repressive.
The Hegemon has no qualms. We must have no reticence to work as Early Warning Sentinels. Get these good articles into the consciousness of millions more throughout the Eurasian world.
Larchmonter,
I like your spirit. The Russian radio service equivalent for Radio Free America (I forget what it’s called) is probably best placed for what you suggest.
I like the way the author has developed his earlier work on national memories. As he says, the US has weaponized these memories. Andrew Korybko is now helping – maybe even leading the way? – to weaponize the antidote.
A unique article, in my reading at least. Much appreciated!
I’m researching the political perspectives of Jews remaining in Russia since the dis-assembling of the Soviet Union (in principle the Zionists left long ago, and the Communists MAY have embraced “Mother Russia”, but who knows?). The impact of Russian Jews on Soviet Communism is enormous; are the remaining Jews “Russians” or “internationalists”?
I too would like to know more about how the Jews in Ruusia think and feel.
Overall, though, I was very impressed with this article. Especially as it explains how the U.S. uses the conflicting memories of the past.
Thank you to the author.
Paul & Daphne,
I found the following paragraph interesting: “It was Theodor Herzl, a Budapest-born Jew profoundly estranged from Judaism, who is considered the father of modern political Zionism. He formed the World Zionist Organization and promoted Jewish migration to Palestine with the purpose of forming a Jewish state. Rabkin emphasizes the Eastern European, particularly Russian, influence on Zionism. “This Eastern European influence is still very strong in Israel. All the prime ministers of Israel without exception were either born in the Russian Empire or come from parents who were born in the Russian Empire. They all come from little towns, none of them come from big cosmopolitan cities like Paris, Saint-Petersburg or Istanbul. No wonder they recreated a ghetto in the Holy Land.”
It comes from this link http://www.globalresearch.ca/what-if-a-jew-swims-against-the-stream-of-zionism/5421318
If you search globalresearch for “Russian Jews” etc you may find something appropo to your research.
Brilliant, insightful and compelling analysis as usual.
I wonder if the author has any data on how discontent can be magnified in other neighbouring or pipeline countries -are there significant extreme groups, particularly those with a historical root that lends ideological strength when fueled by US$ accelerant and strategic support?
e.g. Azerbaijan, Armenia, Macedonia (currently being operated upon), Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova.
Also any insight into what it would take to leave NATO? The revenge would be brutal and my thought is that no country would openly dare but a soft decay blamed on economics etc. could achieve the same in all but name?
“Also any insight into what it would take to leave NATO?”
As an aside, France under De Gaulle actually left NATO in 1966 (the quisling Sarkozy brought France back there in 2009). This did cause rage and fury in the US all right but didn’t lead to any retaliatory acts of subversion and coercion. Possibly, De Gaulle’s measures were tolerated since the social cohesion and the booming capitalist economy throughout Western Europe in those days could afford minor concessions in favour of neutrality.
The issue of leaving NATO today is of an entirely different political magnitude, however. More than ever before, NATO is absolutely indispensable to the Western bankster mafia who is slowly but surely losing its despotic power over the Global South while at the same time being confronted by Russia’s and China’s rising power and cooperation. Also, deep down, there is much instinctive fear among Westerners at large of what would happen to their material living standards at the expense of the Global South if NATO were weakened, let alone dissolved. And these fears are further reinforced by the fact that reformism was abandoned long ago — the so-called “post-industrial society” having no needs to sustain itself by any other means than utter parasitism all along the line.
Bottom line: NATO = Nazi American Terror Organization. Total lawlessness and violent coercion. Expect no mercy trying to quit or resisting “Anschluss”.
DeGaulle had good reason to want France out of NATO. There were a lot of attempts to assassinate him by the groups tied to NATO. Gladio 1.0
Andrew Korybko: Keep your eye on “Kurdistan” and “Albani-estan” being created as client states out of existing entities. The Kurds de facto have their own country in Northern Iraq so watch out Turkey (headwaters of the major mid East rivers) Syria and Iran as they are “encouraged” to reunited their kinfolk ( oh there will be major stories of victimization unfortunately many true to be made into a hard and fast narrative identity.) Albani estan….well I think that is practice and distraction for now.

YEMEN: If you want to understand this hot spot I highly recommend a Nile Bowie article that so very clearly answers all your questions. http://journal-neo.org/2015/05/19/saudi-aggression-in-yemen-pulls-kingdom-toward-protracted-quagmire/
Couldn’t be better.
Interesting article. But the ZPC/NWO “color revolution” against Russia didn’t fail on 9 May, 2015. It actually failed 2 years earlier. The patriotic feeling certainly sealed the “color revolution’s” fate for now, I agree, but what killed the regime change op was solid intelligence work and use of the media (a friendly media – this is a very important aspect) to expose the corruption behind the “color revolution” machinery.
The role of a nation’s media is paramount to these “color revolutions”. Ukraine no longer owned its media, their media was part of the zio-media and had been for many years when the first “color revolution” op took place in 2004. This control of a nation’s media also facilitated and lead the “historical” revisionism. And still does throughout the “west”.
Contrast this with Syria, where the nation’s media is not part of the zio-media propaganda machine, working day and night to undermine government authority and sow division among the people.
This is why the ZPC/NWO seeks to dominate media. Control the sources of information and one can create just about any false reality to bamboozle the population into doing what one wants them to do. And think what one wants them to think. Do it long enough and one can create a whole new cultural identity based upon the fantasies presented by the zio-media. The media has been doing this throughout the west for well more than a century. In the current zio-media manifestation, this has literally been honed into almost an exact science.
To get and keep control of the media, one also needs to be able to influence government. Again, unlike Syria, whose government has remained mostly independent of ZPC/NWO control, the government in the Ukraine was quickly corrupted by ZPC/NWO influence and was mostly populated by an extension of the Jewish mafia organised crime network. Just about every, if not every, oligarch in the Ukraine was up their neck in organised criminal activities.
This was also largely true of Russia in the 90’s, and why that country went hell during that time. Fortunately for Russia, there remained solidly independent groups in the Russian establishment, who reasserted themselves and pulled the country back from the Abyss. In the Ukraine the equivalent were rendered too weak and were simply outgunned by the ZPC/NWO influence peddlers and perception management tools.
In Syria, the ZPC/NWO never really made much inroads into both government and media control. A very significant reason for this is that the zionist element was not allowed to to do as they please. In fact, they were kept out, since Syria and Israel were essentially at war. This is a very constant aspect of these population manipulations. Reduce the influence of the zionist 5th column and correspondingly it greatly reduces the ability of the ZPC/NWO to create the necessary conditions for their “color revolutions”.
It should be remembered that these operations really took off with the help of the zionist element and are more in tune with the way zionists subverted the left in the west into a mock left that essentially served as loyal opposition to ZPC/NWO oligarch empowering policies (for example: to accept that ridiculous R2P rubbish). It was also the zionist element of the ZPC/NWO that invented neoCONery. And we all know what they are about, and how effective they have been in controlling American politics for the last 30 years or so. Ignoring this aspect is, essentially, leaving out the “Soros” role and concentrating on the “Brzezinski” role in these ops.
BOT TAK, It’s always baffled me why Yanukovych didn’t use the media to explain to the population why the EU deal that was offered was not in their interest. He must have had access to friendly media, cuz a lot of media wasn’t shut down til well after the coup. There was even Russian media that continued for awhile after the coup.
Also it seems there was a degree of betrayal by Ukraine’s oligarchs; they must have been promised something by the US, because they clearly went along w Maidan. This was a slow-motion revolution that continued over months while the govt possessed the means to stop it throughout–but wdn’t act.
re: betrayal
“Treason doth never prosper: What is the reason? Why, if it prosper, none dare call it treason.”
The oligarchs didn’t betray Yanukovich because they were never his friends to begin with. And the West did offer something important, which was to let them keep their assets that were in the West, and participate in the further asset stripping that was planned for all things oriented towards Russia.
As far as the media is concerned, it has been mentioned by many that the media became all pro-Maidan. They only pretended to be something, such as not hostile to Russia. Same as Fox pretends to be conservative and CNN pretends to be liberal. They are both owned by the oligarchs.
The Zionist ambition in Syria is not to control the country but destroy it and smash it into powerless, sectarian, statelets, following the Oded Yinon Plan. And to kill as many ‘two-legged animals’ in the process as their infinite blood-lust can bring about.
Nice artice.
Agree with most, but something left out.
Russia is a Democratic Republic! And that fact alone, is a source of a large portion of its Moral Strength. Therefore, the CIA-Color Revolution strategy has no handle to lay its counter-revolutionary hat on. The revival of the Russian Nation, its culture, religion, is part and parcel of its Political Revival.
China, on the other hand, is less stable and less resistant to an American style Color Revolution.
The events in Hong Kong, (a part of the Chinese Republic), showed that weakness. The crowds shouting for the end of the Chinese Government wereable to pretend to be supporters of Democracy and Freedom.
These demonstrators and their American/Anglo backers, were never answered at the political and moral level. The Chinese People themselves were not mobilized to oppose the Color Revolution. On the other hand, in Russia/Crimea, and Novorossiya, the people were effectively mobilized In the Struggle for LIBERTY. They defeated the Color Revolution, and made it look easy. The people opened the door for the Militias and the steps away from the Imperialist Oligarchs.
Why will no one discuss this most vital fact? Russia is a functioning Democracy. Ironically, America is not.
Hey! Just mention it in passing! Go ahead!
For the Democratic Republics! Here and There!
I would argue that China is far stronger when it comes to resisting Western color revolution machinations than Russia. First, they had one attempt in Tiananmen. Next, there is no dominant media against the system trying to stir things up. Finally, the people don’t want disorder, which has been the historical cause of most of China’s troubles. Russia has always had two disastrous problems: a pro-Western elite who want to suck up to the West even as they are about to be invaded and a liberal population who hate all things Russian. Both of these things are hard to understand, but still obvious. If you watch Russian media for any length of time, you will see large numbers of these two groups.
The recent events in Hong Kong and Taiwan do not show that China is vulnerable at all. The students in Hong Kong failed miserably, even though residents there have a lot of grievances. Taiwan is a tougher case, but even a coup there would not show weakness in China.
Also, “democracy” and “freedom” are nebulous concepts for most Chinese. Why would choosing between a Clinton and a Bush be remotely better than their current system? And what is free about young people disrupting the lives of millions, such as in Hong Kong or Kiev? Who is foolish enough to want that?
Indeed, the determination, resolve, and belief in the justness of their cause and their governments seen among the Chinese and Russian citizenry amount to a profound source of encouragement to each and every one looking forward to the destruction of the Anglo-Zionist Empire. With regard to the latter’s colour revolutions, there was a most poignant comment posted in the thread “Is Bezler really naive?” in November last year to the following effect:
“The AZs’ favorite tools in Europe have always been the Poles and the Ukrainians, who get played every time. They never learn.”
This being so, I see no reason as to why suchlike countries shouldn’t be regime-changed by Russia and China. Just stage a couple of coups and get rid of the plague. Let the “International Community” rage and fume as much as it pleases.
Thankyou Andrew for the article. I hadn’t thought about the self-image of the Urainians as a factor in permitting the Maidan. But as an American I must comment that it is very difficult when your govt is not acting in your own interest. As we all know the Ukrainian govt refused to act. But by its very existence the govt prevented the ordinary citizen from organizing to take action.
This is the very dilemma that Americans face today: If our gangster-govt were somehow erased today I’m sure Americans cd come together to create a much better one quickly. It’s the one that exists that blocks our way– not the inability to practice self-govt.
Colour revolutions are common place in Australia…Julia Gillard thrown out….Gough Whitlam thrown out…same same as the Thai’s say…whether it is Australia or the mid east….same technology…a corrupted media owned or led by external forces….vested interests…my nation threw away a trillion dollars from our recent mining boom…a beautiful fuck up of a place is Oz these days
Kevin Rudd was the biggie. He pissed off the Jews by expelling a Mossad agent after the deliberate, and repeated (despite solemn ‘assurances’)theft of Australian passport identities, used by Mossad in the ritual murder of a Hamas official in Dubai, and changes to our votes re. Palestine at the UN. He was topped by the NSW Right, and the odious nonentity Bill Shorten, notoriously a member of a cabal of ‘fanatic Likudniks’. Gillard, a groveler to the USA and Israel, was much more to their liking.
The great problem is that Atlanticist aggression is hard-wired into the pathopsychology of Western ruling elites. They fear, hate and are driven, inexorably, to destroy any system unlike their own greed-driven, atomised, individualistic, materialist, soul-less ‘societies’. There can never be a ‘multi-polar’ world with centres of civilization based on long extant cultures that differ from one another but respect each others differences, as long as the Zioamerican Empire of Eternal Exceptionalism exists and sees itself as the ultimate arbiter of all human behaviour everywhere and forever.
It being morally impermissible, and impossible, to physically destroy the Western psychotic elites, the only alternative is to arm oneself, enter alliances with trustworthy states, and appeal directly to the subjugated Western populations in the hope that they will reform their societies from within. As the free exchange of ideas is totally verboten in the West, with vermin like the Guardian sewer and its filthy inhabitants screeching endlessly about ‘Putin’s propaganda machine’ and straight-forward censorship and suppression of Thought Crime looming, Russia and China’s best bet is to be the ‘good example’ of a decent, fair and just society for all their inhabitants. That requires euthanising the poisonous Free Market capitalist cult, reducing inequality, spreading compassion and empathy to all, creating strong social welfare systems, and public provision of basic utilities and the decencies of life, and creating rich and deep cultural movements of all types, with Pussy Riot style excrescences tolerated but disdained and despised. Of course, this sort of society will better resist malicious foreign meddling, and, at the same time all foreign NGOs caught spreading social discord must be ejected immediately and for good. Foreign ‘diplomats’ must be ruthlessly policed and prevented from stirring trouble, and expelled if necessary. Of course, no matter how decent a society is constructed, the ruling vermin in the West and their propaganda scum will lie about it, as they lie about everything, but the truth will leak out and encourage those fighting for decent, humane, societies in the West. This is a fight for the soul and the fate of humanity.
“These demonstrators and their American/Anglo backers, were never answered at the political and moral level. The Chinese People themselves were not mobilized to oppose the Color Revolution.”
On the contrary, politically the organized umbrella group leaders were invited to talk and express themselves in a political dialogue. As for moral level, one and half million (15 times the protestors who really were students on vacation sleeping out and getting paid to be there) signed a petition to remove the protestors from the commercial intersections.
I don’t know what sources of information you use, but, on China, be very careful. Media in Hong Kong is anti-Beijing, media in Taiwan is anti-Beijing. And the BBC, CNN, AFP are tools of the hegemon.
The fact is the color revolution attempt was blocked and will never work in Hong Kong. The economy took a huge (40% hit) and the whole stable ambience for international business, banking and finance was degraded. Beijing has no real need for Hong Kong in the long run other than as a port. Shanghai will replace it in part or totally for finance and banking. In fact, forty years from now, NY and London will be eclipsed by Shanghai in those matters.
The Chinese people crave stability. Freedom to choose a political representative is so far down their wish list it takes a stupid American official to conceive that they care who the leader of Hong Kong is or is not, so long as he or she is not corrupt.
The other reality is Britain never let anyone vote for anything while they ruled the roost of the Royal Colony. So to say the people have been denied any democratic or moral right is laughable. Beijing granted them the vote. Then they gave them three months to make their case to the 5-7 million citizens. They lost that by a wide margin.
I understand some people think China is repressive. I understand they think because there is one party it must be a tyranny. The facts on the ground is that Chinese society works fine with Central Government that can maintain stability and growth. Western institutions would lead to disaster in China.
If they were not successful, the US would not have to try to contain them, to destabilize them, to change the regime. And who measures success? The People. The people in the streets of China have the last say on who rules them. That is their culture. And the written and spoken words of their present and last set of leaders (President and Premier) all articulated that fact.
The Party must bring a better life, improve the Rule of Law, protect China from invaders, enhance the image of China around the globe. Chinese understand that the CPC is doing well on all these matters. Issues involving a two year operation training thousands of students to sleep overnight in tents and hold yellow umbrellas is not even a blip on the screen for 1.3 billion people, 800 million of whom still are below the poverty line.
First of all, the protestors will never be heard if they persist to influence mainlanders in Cantonese. And the Hong Kong protestors are going to wind up like the Taiwanese protestors with a crippled economy and a bad future.
Being a tool of the US does not ingratiate you in China. That works in Manila and Tokyo. China is rising and in the minds of Chinese mainlanders they are going to be atop the Asian world whether the US likes it or not.
Larchmonter 445,
I respect & appreciate your missives on Saker.is. Let us debate:
The unfortunate weakness of your political overview lies here:
“The Chinese people crave stability. Freedom to choose a political representative is so far down their wish list it takes a stupid American official to conceive that they care who the leader of Hong Kong is or is not, so long as he or she is not corrupt.”
The human race (the only race – said Martin L. King), necessitates a choice. Your paragraph (unintentially?), grants the “stupid American official” the cover of supporting a government founded upon the right of the citizens to make political choices). It cynically demeans the Chinese People, as existing as lesser humans. You continue; that it is “stupid” to conceive of people/citizens caring who is chosen (by others) to be the leader of Hong Kong.
Just don’t be “corrupt.” History has shown that it is precisely when Choices are made for the People, that constitutes the most direct road to Corruption.
The people must be free to choose their own leaders. And if that is not immediately realizable, then the Banner of Democracy must be held high, as the most important goal of the political human and the revolutionary process. The elections/plebiscites of Novorossiya and Crimea prove that the ideal of citizen participation (not just soldiers, but wives, and the elderly), are possible and indispensable in the struggle against imperialist tyranny.
The struggles of Stalinist Russia, and one-party-one idea-one ideal-China and Vietnam, and Korea, must be seen as legitimate defenses against imperialist assault, but when the gunfire dies down? What then? Surely there is more!
For the Democratic Republics! Here and There! IMAGINE
Excuse: For some reason my name did not come through on above missive.
Very disappointing article, even shocking.
The author, Korybko, in clear English is saying that ‘history’ should be dogmatic, i.e, a propaganda tool to be used to fit an agenda of unity and patriotism.
One must not be naive. Just as the US, Uk, etc, use ‘history’ as a tool so does the Russian government.
As US historian professor Walter G. Moss wrote recently:
The reality is that historians who are truly truth-seekers are few and far between. Precisely bc there is no incentive to be one whereas there are many incentives to be propagandists.
I read Putin made it a crime, punishable by up to five years in prison(?), to “distort” Russia’s role in World War II. While i do not know if this law is already on, I have read on RT, on several occasions, about how the Russian government was planning for that.
Why does Putin feel the history of the ‘great patriotic war’ needs to be shielded in a such a manner? Why does Germany and many other countries feel that holocaust ‘history’ must be protected by the police/judiciary? Truth does not need to be shielded from scrutiny.
Perhaps Mr.Korybko might do well to listen to a man whom I greatly admire, israeli dissident Gilad Atzmon, having an honest discussion about the true meaning of History with the well known French holocaust revisionist Prof.Faurisson.
Gilad Atzmon rencontre Robert Faurisson – 10 juin 2014( Gilad reencounters Faurisson)

Let me be clear; WWII ‘history’ is rubish; it’s a pile of self-serving lies by the victors(all of them) of the war, for which the allies in fact bear much of the responsability.
Regarding Barbarossa, I wonder the fate of the many Russian historians who spearheaded, after the fall of the USSR, the research which has shown that the SU was planning an attack on Germany but Hitler beat Stalin to it.
As D.W.Michaels wrote:
Since the 90s, with the partial opening of Soviet archives(closed again), many Russian historians have refined the evidence for Stalin’s agressive aims. An incomplete list of such Russian historians;
Former Soviet intel officer ,Vladimir Bogdanovich Resun(Viktor Suvorow), Russian historian Dr. Mikhail Meltiukhov, V. A. Nevezhin, Colonel V. D. Danilov, Igor Bunich, Irina. V. Pavlova, V. L. Doroshenko, M.Solonin, Constantine Pleshakov, Dr.Alexander Pronin, Prof. Dr. Maria Litowskaja, Colonel Kiselev, Dr. Dschangir Nadschafow, faculty director of the Institute of General History of the Russian Academy of Sciences, etc.
W.Strauss lists in his book ‘Unternehmen Barbarossa und der russische Historikerstreit'(from a review of it by D.Michaels), the findings of several of these Russian researchers:
* Stalin wanted a general European war of exhaustion in which the USSR would intervene at the politically and militarily most expedient moment. Stalin’s main intention is seen in his speech to the Politburo of August 19, 1939.
* To ignite this, Stalin used the [August 1939] Soviet-German Non-Aggression Pact, which: a) provoked Hitler’s attack against Poland, and b) evoked the declarations of war [against Germany] by Britain and France.
*In the event Germany was defeated quickly [by Britain and France], Stalin planned to “Sovietize” Germany and establish a “Communist government” there, but with the danger that the victorious capitalist powers would never permit a Communist Germany.
* In the event France was defeated quickly [by Germany], Stalin planned the “Sovietization” of France. “A Communist revolution would seem inevitable, and we could take advantage of this for our own purposes by rushing to aid France and making her our ally. As a result of this, all the nations under the ‘protection’ of a victorious Germany would become our allies.”
* From the outset Stalin reckoned on a war with Germany, and the [Soviet] conquest of Germany. To this end, Stalin concentrated on the western border of the USSR operational offensive forces, which were five- to six-times stronger than the Wehrmacht with respect to tanks, aircraft and artillery.
* With respect to a war of aggression, on May 15, 1941, the Red Army’s Main Political Directorate instructed troop commanders that every war the USSR engaged in, whether defensive or offensive, would have the character of a “just war.”
* Troop contingents were to be brought up to full strength in all the western military districts; airfields and supply bases to support a forward-strategy were to be built directly behind the border; an attack force of 60 divisions was to be set up in the Ukraine and mountain divisions and a parachute corps were to be established for attack operations.
* The 16th, 19th, 21st, 22nd and 25th Soviet Armies were transferred from the interior to the western border, and deployed at take-off points for the planned offensive.
* In his speech of May 5, 1941, to graduate officers of the academies, Stalin said that war with Germany was inevitable, and characterized it as a war not only of a defensive nature but rather of an offensive nature.
* Stalin intended to attack in July 1941, although Russian historians disagree about the precise date. Suvorov cites July 6, [Valeri] Danilov [a retired Soviet Colonel] gives July 2, while Melitiukhov writes: “The Red Army could not have carried out an attack before July 15.
Pleshakow believes that Stalin first entertained the idea of launching a preemptive strike against Germany in the summer of 1940, and hardened the plan after Hitler turned a cold shoulder to Stalin’s further territorial demands (the whole of Finland, Romania, and Bulgaria, and pieces of Turkey, Hungary, and Iran), relayed by Molotov in November of that year in Berlin. It was at this point that Hitler, too, decided that further negotiations with Stalin were impossible and ordered plans for Barbarossa.
It’s crucial to understand that German intel learned of the massive and secret Soviet buid up and that all efforts to negotiate and end to the war with the Brits had failed. Germany faced the prospect of a 2 front war with Soviet forces poised near the country’s only and already insuficient, oil resources, in Romania.
Germany was left with no other prospect but to strike the Soviets first.
In the interests of full disclosure I am a non European Muslim.
I am saddened at the (mis)use of history by Orthodox Christian Russia. Whilst I understand that politicians and politics often involves “coloring” history to suit a certain agenda irrespective of integrity and veracity, in my opinion, Orthodox Christian Russia should NOT be afraid of free inquiry into History. This is what I would expect from the Gog & Magog NATO Modern West. Rather let historians investigate freely and discuss freely. This would be the correct thing to do.
You are correct that the Truth needs no legislation in protecting it, Truth stands on its merit, only lies needs legislation.
Western drivel, void and trivial
Whenever a Westerner — or a two-bit Western parrot — opines on something regarding 20th century European history, the pre-fabricated, nonsensical, totally exhausted ‘Stalin/Hitler’ hyperbole is invoked as a substitute for facts and investigation. I’ll tell you what you need to know here: Nazi Germany was a copycat of Anglo-American imperialism, aiming at making her ‘Aryan’ slobs prosperous at the expense of the Slavic peoples. Eventually it proved unequal to the task, which is why the Germans, unlike the Pindos, have a strong bias against racist/imperialist genocide. Humbling lessons that Putin will have to teach the latter the hard way. Small wonder Luca K is having problems with Putin as well as Stalin. Being smarter than the Anglo-Zionists should indeed be an affront to Western supremacists.
Ergo: Revisionist Stalin/Hitler diatribes have absolutely zero explanatory power, totally disqualifying the entire “genre” as science. It’s closer to psychobabble for the arrogant Western monkeys, just as are bourgeois economics.
“Nazi Germany was a copycat of Anglo-American imperialism, aiming at making her ‘Aryan’ slobs prosperous at the expense of the Slavic peoples.”
Then why did N.S Germany extricate herself from the unjust & oppressive economic system that is/was INDISPENSABLE to “Anglo-American imperialism” and, in fact, any imperialism?
Personally I am of the opinion that the “Anglo-American imperialist” did not want to see Germany coming into existence. The fact that she had, meant that she had to be either destroyed/weakened or “converted” to their side. They have now unfortunately achieved both! But they have failed with Russia.
Today, Russia’s “unforgivable crime” is her leading role in challenging the monopolistic monetary system of the world with her BRICS. Without complete monetary control over the world, the Anti-Christ cannot control the world as he needs to. Hence the war preparations being made against Russia.
“Then why did N.S Germany extricate herself from the unjust & oppressive economic system that is/was INDISPENSABLE to ‘Anglo-American imperialism’ and, in fact, any imperialism?”
Easy: Unlike today’s pathetic Kosher Nazi clowns in Kiev and Galicia, the German Nazis didn’t take lightly to Anglo-American contempt and humiliation — their program was enslaving and terrorizing other peoples for the benefit of Germany’s majority population without any “International Community” pestering about it. You seem to be of the opinion that a fall-out among thieves testifies to some kind of moral stature (actually, it sort of does, but not in that way).
I guess we could agree that Germany was indeed destroyed as an independent imperialist robber. Sure, it’s the undisputed Gauleiter of the horrible European Union, but the latter is just a lousy US plaything to boot as is Germany herself. And, yes, Russia’s unforgivable crime is that it refuses to be enslaved by the West again.
My opinion is that I do not consider N.S Germany to have been a thief.
In the End Times, the Last Prophet (PBUH) told us that there will be great liars who will tell great lies.
Great lies have been told to the world by the victorious Gog & Magog powers after WW II. (The vanquished was never allowed the freedom to present his case fairly and without coercion).
We were told that N.S Germany had a state designed industrial program to exterminate European Jews principally by the means of homicidal gas chambers resulting in the deaths of 6,000,000 Jews. But looking into this, I find this to be a great lie! (Note this does not mean Jews were not oppressed). We were told that the N.S Germans had murdered, in cold blood, thousands of surrendered Polish officers/soldiers in Katyn. But looking into this, I find this to be a great lie! (Note this does not mean that the Polish were not oppressed). We were told that N.S Germany caused the war by invading Poland because they hated those “inferior” slavs because of race and wanted lebensraum in the former German lands. We were never told that before that invasion the ethnic Germans in Poland were being viciously persecuted and the Polish state stood by idly. (A bit like the Eastern Ukrainians being viciously persecuted today).
The world was told so many great lies! I now doubt that the N.S Germans caused these aggressive wars simply because they had a “program to enslave and terrorize” other peoples for their benefit. Rather it seems she was forced into these wars (and was used to catalyze the formation of the Imposter State of Israel).
And God knows best.
Here is an opinion piece by Mike King & Brother Nathanel Kapner regarding Russia’s ban on “Holocaust denial”. http://tomatobubble.com/ukraine_nationalists.html
It concludes with,
“In a paradoxical nutshell, the true purpose of the “Holocaust Denial” Law is not to serve the Globo-Zion Jews, but to fight them. It is a powerful tool that Putin can and will use to crush the psychopathic kosher CIA “Nazi’s” of Russia once and for all. The law also prevents the Master Jews from manipulating what The Protocols of Zion refers to as “our lesser brethen” into closing their mighty ranks against “Fascist” Putin and “anti-Semitic” Russia.
In chess parlance – check, and check. Well played Mr. Putin. Well played.”
The thesis of Rezun was proposed in 1990 and dismissed at about the same time. Its relaunch today is so clearly related to the “Russian aggression” propaganda meme that it won’t need any refutation. Nothing new has appeared since the first refutations.
Just some excerpts gleaned from the Wikipedia – German-Soviet Axis talks, which shed some light on some propaganda “spinnable” events:
“In the summer of 1940, Germany grew even more dependent on Soviet imports. German occupations of France, the Netherlands, and Belgium created additional demand while decreasing avenues for indirect supply.[32] Compared to 1938 figures, the expanded Greater Germany and its sphere of influence lacked, among other items, 500,000 tons of manganese, 3.3 million tons of raw phosphate, 200,000 tons of rubber and 9.5 million tons of oil. Meanwhile, the Baltic invasions resulted in the Soviet occupation of states on which Germany had relied for 96.7 million Reichsmarks of imports in 1938 at blackmailed favorable economic terms, but from which they now had to pay Soviet prices. An eventual invasion of the Soviet Union increasingly looked like the only way in which Hitler believed that Germany could solve that resource crisis. While no concrete plans were yet made, Hitler told one of his generals in June that the victories in western Europe “finally freed his hands for his important real task: the showdown with Bolshevism”, though German generals told Hitler that occupying Western Russia would create “more of a drain than a relief for Germany’s economic situation”…
“Before entering a deal with Italy and Japan, German officials had discussed the feasibility of including the Soviet Union as a fourth member to direct Soviet focus southward, to the Indian Ocean and Persian Gulf, both of which were currently in the British sphere of influence. German officials indicated that they would be willing to give the Soviet Union freedom to operate east of the Dardanelles.
Just before the signing of the agreement, Germany informed Molotov that it would enter the pact, and that while it was not explicitly stated, it was effectively directed against “American warmongers” by demonstrating to them the folly of war with three great powers aligned against them.[40] Moscow had actually been aware of the proposed pact terms from Soviet intelligence sources in Japan.
“On a home visit, German Moscow military attache Ernst Köstring stated on October 31 (1940) that “the impression is steadily growing in me that the Russians want to avoid any conflict with us.”
“Throughout the summer, Hitler vacillated between plans to attack the Soviet Union, or to offer them part of a deal like the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact, except looking south, where the Soviets would receive ports only on the west side of the Black Sea, or they might be given the Bosporus if Germany maintained a friendly third party state with access, such as Bulgaria.
German ambassador to Moscow Friedrich von der Schulenburg had been contemplating a potential four power pact since the collapse of France in June. After he covertly learned about Hitler’s potential Soviet invasion plans, which he opposed, von der Schulenburg and others began attempting to sway Hitler and his contingent to at least extend their agreement so long as Russia’s claims remained in the areas of Turkey and Iran. He even concealed in his reports to Berlin the Soviets’ doubts about Germany’s good faith after the annexations in Romania.”
“In October 1940, Stalin requested that Molotov be permitted to discuss with Hitler the countries’ future relations. Ribbentrop responded to Stalin in a letter that “in the opinion of the Führer… it appears to be the historical mission of the Four Powers–the Soviet Union, Italy, Japan and Germany — to adopt a long range-policy and to direct the future development of their peoples into the right channels by delimitation of their interests in a worldwide scale.
The delivery of Ribbentrop’s letter was delayed to Stalin, resulting after earlier press stories in the ideas no longer seeming “fresh”, causing Ribbentrop to lash out at the German Moscow embassy personnel. When delivering the letter, von Schulenberg stated that the Berlin conference would be a preliminary meeting preceding a convening of the four powers.
Stalin was visibly pleased by the invitation for talks in Berlin. Stalin wrote a letter responding to Ribbentrop about entering an agreement regarding a “permanent basis” for their “mutual interests.”
On November 6, Köstring wrote that “since Göring has now put our military deliveries in balance with the Russian deliveries, one may hope that the negotiations will end in peace and friendship.” During the first two weeks in November, German and Soviet economic negotiators in Moscow enjoyed moderate success. German military economic negotiators had hoped for success in the negotiations, in part, because they felt this would strengthen their arguments against Hitler’s then increasingly anti-Soviet policy.
On November 1, Army General Staff head Franz Halder met with Hitler and wrote, “The Führer hopes he can bring Russia into the anti-British front….
The news that Molotov held talks in Berlin initially stunned world media, with the British press endeavoring to determine whether the Soviets were preparing to join the Axis pact…
The pro-“Continental Bloc” Germans in Ribbentrop’s entourage expected that Stalin would eventually yield given the weakness of the Red Army. Weizsäcker commented that “we can continue for a long time” and that “war with Russia is impossible as long as we are busy with England, and afterwards it will be unnecessary.” On November 14 Köstring reiterated his conviction that the Soviet Union had no aggressive designs indeed, just the contrary: “Molotov’s trip (to Berlin) is for me just further proof of an idea that I have long held namely, that the Soviet Union wants to have peace with us, since it cannot expect any advantage from a conflict with us . . . The decisive factor in [evoking] the Soviet desire for peace is and remains the demonstrated strength of our army.”…
On November 25, the Soviets offered a counterproposal to Ribbentrop’s draft agreement. It began with “The Soviet government is prepared to accept the draft of the Pact of Four Powers on political cooperation and economic mutual assistance.Instead of two secret protocols, Stalin proposed five:
that German troops depart Finland in exchange for a Soviet guarantee of continued nickel and wood shipments and peace with Finland;
a mutual assistance pact be signed with Bulgaria in the next few months permitting Soviet bases
The center of Soviet territorial domination would be south of Baku and Batumi (ports in modern Azerbaijan and Georgia, south of which are Iraq and Iran)
Japanese renunciation of rights to northern Sakhalin oil and coal concessions in exchange for appropriate compensation
Affirms that the Soviet-Bulgaria mutual assistance treaty was a political necessity.”
On December 5, Hitler received military plans for the possible invasion, and approved them all, with a schedule to begin in May 1941. On December 18, 1940, Hitler signed War Directive No. 21 to the German high command for an operation now codenamed Operation Barbarossa stating: “The German Wehrmacht must be prepared to crush Soviet Russia in a quick campaign. The date for the invasion was set for May 15, 1941…
On January 17, 1941, seven days after the German–Soviet Border and Commercial Agreement, Molotov asked German officials whether the parties could then work out an agreement for entry into the Axis pact. Molotov expressed astonishment at the absence of any answer to the Soviets’ November 25 offer to join the Pact. They never received an answer. On March 1, 1941, Bulgaria joined the Axis, which further unsettled Stalin when combined with Germany’s continued ignoring of Stalin’s November 25, 1940 Axis entry proposal…
Three years later, Friedrich Werner von der Schulenburg was executed as one of the conspirators in the July 20, 1944 Plot to assassinate Adolf Hitler.”
Andrew hit the nail. We all who come from an Orthodox background understood that instantly. I did myself (and I was not alone) compared the march of the “Immortal Regiment” with an immense Panikhida (I found out on the net people who confessed that they wept, although they were complete strangers). The cult of the ancestors, of the “patres”, the love, respect and gratitude for them and their achievements in the past is the foundation of patriotism, the spiritual foundation of the nations. And that is natural, it comes from the hearts and guts. Chinese have an all pervading cult of their ancestors. Syria, as you said, is proud in her ancient civilization and that’s why the satanists (ISIS and their sponsors) try to obliterate it.
But that won’t succeed. There is a story from the years of militant atheism in Russia. A bezbozhnik propagandist was lecturing an audience of peasants delivering the atheist crap that today is excreted by the likes of Richard Dawkins. At the end of it he asked the audience whether they understood. And a priest raised and shouted: Hristos voskrese! And with one voice the audience answered: Voistinu voskrese! Stalin, with all his sins, understood that and brought the Icon of the Mother of God of Kazan to the front line and reopened the doors of the Churches. Khrushchev and his ilk tried to shut them close again, but he did not succeed. And look where we are. That will be more of it, not less.
In the interests of full disclosure I am a non European Muslim.
“Stalin, with all his sins, understood that and brought the Icon of the Mother of God of Kazan to the front line and reopened the doors of the Churches”.
I wish to ask was Stalin genuinely sincere in his policy towards Orthodox Christianity or was it an example of expediency? He must have realized that the Peoples of the USSR are a spiritual people and thus this characteristic could be manipulated in Soviet propaganda?
@was Stalin genuinely sincere in his policy towards Orthodox Christianity or was it an example of expediency?
It is hard to answer. He may have had a change of heart. Started as expediency and then sincere. Don’t forget that in his youth he trained to be a priest. Even Ivan the Terrible repented.
Stalin went to confession at least 3 times during the war. He was that shaken. He came to believe that the war would be lost if he did not repent. This is according to one of his relatives. It’s probably true that he returned to his religious roots to some extent. That is how deeply he felt betrayed by his ‘masters.’
Wow…
Enough with the solitude?
Solitude is ok, but some people’s pupincuristic talents amaze me sometimes.
There is a word there that I could not understand.
Ask WizOz to translate it for you. It refers to his talents.
This sort of thing is powerful. Use of spectacles marshalling nationalist fervor by drawing on proud historical events, typically of war although not always, can be and is relied on by all sorts of governments to enhance unity and, the flip side, suppress dissent. I’m not going to say nobody should ever use this kind of appeal. But certainly I have concerns about it, both ethical and practical.
On the ethical side, I’m left a little bemused by the author’s extolling this tactic as if it’s some brilliant stroke of genius, and one which can somehow only be deployed by the righteous in the process of resisting oppression. To the contrary, it’s the oldest trick in the book, and is constantly used by scoundrels of all stripes. The US are masters of this kind of jingoistic, warlike spectacle. In recent years in Canada, under the unscrupulous Stephen Harper, ever-increasing efforts have been made to mobilize memories of both world wars and even the War of 1812 in the service of getting Canadians to accept a more violent, imperialist foreign policy. Overreliance on this sort of display to stir mindless enthusiasm and obedience is a major hallmark of all fascist regimes, including Nazi Germany itself. The thing about this technique is that, since it marshalls approval for past events, generally far enough past that there is little remaining political dissent about it, mythologies that pretty much everyone agrees on, it has nothing actually to do with the virtues or vices of the current government. It represents a politics precisely as spurious as the Color Revolution’s approach of
On the practical side, this kind of thing has diminishing returns. It is powerful, yes, much like the old “scaring the people with an outside enemy” technique. It hits people somewhere pre-rational, often to the dismay of those with a more substantive politics. But it loses power if relied on too much for too long, particularly if there’s a strong contrast between the glory invoked and the lived reality of the people. If there is no actual national project with a more or less inclusive nature, people will sooner or later smell the hypocrisy and gaudy displays will only increase cynicism.
A truly great article: thank you Andrew, thank you Saker. It demonstrates clearly and lucidly that the Empire’s weapons are spiritual: that is to say, they attack man’s most spiritual faculty, that of memory.
I had never understood it in quite this way before, and Andrew’s article made it absolutely clear. The Empire’s machinations aim at the perversion of history for the sake of the subversion of future.
The only future that is possible for humane life is based upon truth and uncompromising honor with respect to the truth.
Thank you again Andrew.
“The Empire’s machinations aim at the perversion of history for the sake of the subversion of future.”
I think it was George Orwell who wrote: “He who controls the past controls the future, and he who controls the present controls the past”.
However it would be virgin naive of us not to realize that Russia is doing similar as the “Empire” when it comes to history. (I wish she did not but I can understand given the current geopolitical situation.)
@T
Good points.
When criticizing the notion of the so called ‘Great Patriotic War”, I wish to be very clear;
By no means do I wish to disregard the suffering of the Soviet soldiers and civilians.
Not at all. But, having studied the subject in detail – and continuing to study it – I have come to the conclusion they were much more victims of the Stalinist regime than of Germany.
First bc, as I briefly(and very insuficiently, there is much, much more) explained in my previous post, Stalin was very much responsible for bringing about the titanic conflict with NS Germany.
Secondly, we need to examine, beyond the feel good myths of the war, how the Stalinist regime treated its own troops and civilians. It amounted to complete disdain for human life.
For example, we need to look at the role of the political comissars, of NKVD special units, of the dreaded ‘blocking units’, all in order to keep the red army in line. Why? Bc there was a clear tendency, among the troops, despite all the brainwashing propaganda of how the Finns or the germans tortured and murdered all pows(many believed it), of surrender and desertion. But why? Well, clearly a lot of the soldiers did not feel so enthusiastic about fighting for a regime which had killed and/or visited horific sufferings on millions of people already before the war.
Many draconian orders were issued to deal with these ‘problems’.
One amongst thousands of such similar incidents was what the NKVD in the 264th infantry div reported re the first battle of the 1060th infantry regiment. When the soldiers of the 4th company, 2nd Battalion failed in the attack, heavy MGs opened up on them from behind, killing ‘at least 60’.
The regime was so ruthless that Soviet airstrikes were carried out on overcrowded soviet pow camps. In the Soviet military, surrender was not allowed. Officers, if they surrendered, would be executed if taken back(or later repatriated) and their families arrested. Conscripts faced same fate but families ‘only’ lost state support. Many soviet soldiers who were captured, from lowly privates to Generals, expressed their great fear of the NKVD. It also terribly affected the performance of soviet forces. Major General Kirpichnikov stated that bc of the comissars they were totally stiffled in their creativeness and operational thinking.
This is also why Soviet troops were again and again, already since the winter war with Finland, sent to their almost certain deaths in frontal human wave assaults.
Despite all this terror, millions of soviet soldiers surrendered or deserted.
This does not fit very well with a view of mass patriotism. Initially, soviet propaganda aimed at fighting for Stalin and Communism, as it was inefective, this was later changed to defense of the motherland which proved much more effective. Still, terror appear to have remained the key component in keeping the red army fighting.
Soviet data shows that during the war, more than 1 million court martial trials were held and more than 158,000 soldiers were executed.
As Marshal Georgi Zhukov noted “In the Red Army, it takes a very brave man to be a coward.”
By comparison, the number of German soldiers executed in all fronts was minimal and there was no such terror apparatus despite strict discipline. This shows the German forces were much more motivated and cohesive.
@It amounted to complete disdain for human life.
Isn’t war as such a complete disdain for human life? “La guerre en dantelles” exists only in operettas.
Dear Andrew,
Thank you for another interesting piece.
History/memory is so very important and helps countries who educate and promote it to survive the US myth propoganda and fake history that is being taught globally.
The whole dumbing down of societies in the West is an on going programme – with dumbness being elevated as cool/the way to be! It’s quite frightening how popular acting/being dumb is. No wonder the US can manipulate – ignorance is bliss.
Rgds,
Veritas
USA´s biggest challenge is their un-Godly behaviour. They moved away from the Constitutional “In God we trust”, to an earthly, sinful, way of living. Seems, as repentance is not scheduled, the Nation will have to go through some very hard times.
I think this YouTube clip, by Paul Harvey, from 1964/1065 says it all:
