Dear Saker, hopefully someone from Greece can give an analysis on this blog of the probable Syriza victory, but not too economic/ technical:
As a total layperson I notice every time I can be convinced, even within half an hour, of completely opposite economic viewpoints, all seem completely logical to when explained. Which means I have no clue. Non at all! Non being that stupid, many more people like me must exist here…
I think Greece is now at the forefront of the EU collapsing. The empire and Brussels will do everything to make an example out of the country, and what terrible things await us when we resist the plundering. And the Syriza people will make some mistakes along the way, due to lack of experience and newness of their system of government.
Russia under economic Pressure, they might not be very happy to give a helping hand, but to me it seems Greece might be the start of pulling the southern EU countries away from Brussels. Perhaps even from France to Slovakia…

The thing about a world war — which we are engaged in even if not shooting everywhere — is that it is on many fronts and with innumerable battle, large and small, and it’s not nearly possible to keep up with it all in specifics. There is an immense number of things going on.

I am very impressed with MMT because it not only makes sense but can be, and is, explained in very simple and non-technical terms, which an indicator of a thing which is likely true, and based on tangible reality.

The problem is that such bank notes is not actual money. Money is a creature of law, a legal structure controlled by the constitution and legislature, and ‘legal tender’, not just a commodity or IOU. Money is the only thing the government allows taxes to be paid with for instance.
All this get complicated in detail and history, of course, but the bottom line is that the federal government is the only body which can authorize actual money because that’s the only body constitutionally authorized to do so, and which forms the basis of the national economy — everybody else is not a creator of money but a user of it.
We hear all kinds of nonsense about deficits and taxes. Suppose tomorrow the government decides to eliminate all national debt by taxing everyone according to how much money they had, at a rate of 100%, requiring everyone to turn in ALL the money they had. No deficit at all! And they also eliminated all taxes — just as well since without any legal money no one could pay anything anyway.
The politicians dream! No deficit and no taxes! The day after the entire economy would collapse utterly, with nothing in the hands of the people or private sector to buy, sell, lend, invest, or do anything else. We would be instantly reduced to only barter and promissory notes — debts which could never be paid because no one would have the legal tender, good for all debts, public and private. It would be like the scorekeeper of a ball game taking back all the point the teams scored and refusing to put up any numbers on the scoreboard.
In that situation it matters not a jot who the advisors or treasury officials are. The US and the whole economy would be completely ‘solvent’ —- and completely non-functional. Game over!
So maybe not withdraw all the money — maybe just take eliminate half of it, and wreck the economy only half way. Or leave a quarter of the deficit and wreck it only by a quarter? What number of being wrecked should we have — how much austerity and wrecking should we tolerate? Or let the government take all the money from anyone who isn’t wealthy and give the wealthy 1% all they collect, and wreck only 99% while everything else grinds to a halt? Pretty close to what we are doing now. The wealthy can then ‘lend’ money to everyone else, eventually to be paid by taking their houses, their jobs, their cars, their first born children and eventually their bodies and lives when they make them into slaves. That’s what is happening now.

Tibet-support organizations include many people who have direct personal experience either of Tibetans (and/or Chinese), or of Tibet or both. In other words they do not base their opinions on propaganda. But you are free to believe the official Chinese version even without any personal experience.

Given this performance, Yatsenyuk reveals himself to be totally out of his depth as a Prime Minister. While it may be acceptable and even praiseworthy to worship Nazis in Ukraine these days, this is (still and hopefully forever) a taboo subject in Germany and most of Europe. Yatsenyuk clearly did not understand this, otherwise he would not have implicitly sided himself with Hitler. Not to mention that while in Eastern European countries people may complain about Soviet policies during and following World War II, rather fewer would prefer that the Nazis had won World War II. But apparently the Prime Minister of Ukraine does.

UNITED NATIONS, January 9 (Sputnik) – UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has warned that the Ukrainian crisis is threatening to create a destabilized Cold War-like situation in the world, also pointing to a number of other hot spots around the globe that require action for peace and security.
Ban Ki-moon told the UN General Assembly Thursday that the “conflict in Ukraine has cost well over four thousand lives, endangered security and stability in Europe, and reanimated the ghosts of the Cold War”.
Eastern Ukraine is nearing a humanitarian catastrophe, as residents struggle to get food and medicine, rights group Amnesty International told Reuters. The UN refugee watchdog added that the elderly in the region could be severely hit by Kiev’s policies.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) also expressed major concern for the elderly, pointing to Kiev’s dangerous decision to transfer payouts of social benefits and pensions to government-controlled areas.
Also on Thursday, EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker unveiled plans to lend an additional 1.8 billion euros ($2.1 billion) to rescue the almost bankrupt Kyiv government. It adds to the 1.4 billion euros handed over last year in medium-term loans.
