Eurasia is on pace to become integrated like never before, with China’s Belt & Road and Russia’s Eurasian Union providing the structural basis for this historical connection between continents. The US understands the threat that this poses to its global hegemony (see Brzezinski’s The Grand Chessboard), ergo the rolling out of its latest postmodern weapon, the militarization of historical memory. Eurasia is full of a patchwork of conflicting memories, but none are more controversial, polarizing, and convenient for the US’ geostrategic aim of dividing Eurasia than World War II and the Sunni-Shia split. Let’s take a closer look:
Asia
The US is fully supportive of Japan’s remilitarization, especially so because it rattles the nerves of China and evokes memories of a return to Tokyo’s fascist past. China lost tens of millions of its citizens as a result of Japan’s brutal aggression and subsequent occupation, and it plans on commemorating their memory during the upcoming 70th anniversary of Victory Day in Asia. The US finds this absolutely unnecessary, according to Obama’s top Asia advisor, Evan Medeiros, since a transcript provided by the State Department to Reuters quoted him as saying that:
“We want for the region to get past it so the region can realize its full potential as a driver of global growth, for example, so when we think about these history questions and when we think about this ceremony in China, these are the kinds of considerations that we’re looking at.”
Wait a minute…is the US saying that victims of state-sponsored aggression and those which have lost millions of lives as a result should simply “get past it”? Well, yeah, that is what he said, but remember, the US is consistently subjective in applying its own articulated policies, hence why it has a completely opposite approach when it comes to World War II in Eastern Europe. Before addressing that, however, a few more words about the militarization of historical memory in Asia are required.
The US understands that the only feasible way to construct a China Containment Coalition (CCC) is to bring about the increased regional involvement of Japan as its predominant Lead From Behind proxy in the theater. The only time that Tokyo fulfilled the role of regional hegemon was during World War II, and as much as it may pain some people to admit, China notwithstanding, many of the region’s people were somewhat relieved to fall under Japan’s control as they saw it as preferable to European colonization (Indochina and Indonesia being prime examples).
True, there certainly were resistance groups and the Japanese obviously partook in large-scale atrocities in the occupied lands, but by and large, there was no resistance to Japan on par with that demonstrated by the Chinese, who literally were fighting for their very existence (in the same manner as the Soviet Union and its people were also fighting for their own against the Nazis). Whether one calls the majority of Japan’s non-Chinese occupied Asian subjects “collaborators” or passive acceptors of Tokyo’s tyranny, it doesn’t change the fact that there was sizeable enough support among the population that they didn’t feel compelled to rise up and initiate Chinese-style resistance.
It is this exact state of affairs that the US wants to emulate in the 21st century, with Imperial Japan serving as the model for the CCC in Northeast and Southeast Asia, just as it did during World War II. The official American attitude towards Chinese criticism of Japan’s remilitarization and clear adherence to its Fascist-era template, as evidenced by Medeiros’ statement, is that Beijing should just “get past it”, which is easy to say when the US lost but a tiny fraction of what the Chinese did during World War II and hasn’t fought a war on its home turf for over 200 years.
Europe
How does the US react to the invocation of World War II-era criticism by its radical nationalist Eastern European allies? Does it tell Kiev, Poland, or the Baltic States to simply “get past it” and bury their Fascist past? How about that they should simply accept the historical fact of their liberation by the Red Army and be grateful that the Soviet Union ended the war? Nope, it’s the total polar opposite, as most of you already know. In Eastern Europe, the US also supports the revival of Fascist-era movements and historical interpretations, much as it does in East Asia with Japan, and it also lambasts anyone (especially Russia) for suggesting that the US is on the wrong side of history through its flouting of Neo-Fascist alliances. In this Western theater of the Eurasian-wide push-back being waged by the US, Washington doesn’t want anyone to ever “get past” World War II, except of course the Russian Federation and its Soviet-era liberation victory. Aside from Moscow, everybody in Eastern Europe needs to keep the war at the forefront of their thoughts, but only if it’s the ‘right’ (Fascist) version sanitized by the US.
That version is far from sanitary to the average human being, but for the US, which never utilizes actual morals, ethics, or principles in its foreign policy (all references to the aforementioned are window-dressed marketing to sell whatever the war of the year may be), it’s the only acceptable interpretation of World War II events. In fact, the US would prefer for such ideas to make the upgrade from interpretation to regional ideology, all in an effort to build a 21st-century ‘cordon sanitaire’ around the Russian Federation. The more subjectively (and in many cases, falsely) cited ‘facts’ that can divide Russia from Europe, the better, and since Eastern Europe is the most receptive to this type of information war, it makes sense that half of NATO’s ‘strategic communication centers’ are located in that area. It should be taken as a given that these entities are cranking out loads of revisionist World War II-era material in a frantic quest to rapidly rewrite history and imprint the US’ approved version of events into the minds of the regional majority. Only by planting the roots of intergenerational hate against Russia can the US feel assured that its regional vassals will remain under its sway for decades to come.
Mideast
The US’ plans to foster intergenerational hate against Russia appear mild when compared to what it’s doing in the Mideast, which is the creation of inter-centennial hate between Islamic sects. Although the Sunni-Shia split occurred over a thousand years ago and the brief period of bloodshed resulting thereof had largely and rightfully been relegated to the past, the US decided to unearth this bitter memory in order to better its contemporary strategy. The last thing it ever wants is for Muslims to “get past” their sectarian divisions, and if they appear to have done so (as was the case for well over a millennium already), then they must forcibly be reminded of their differences and provoked into bloodshed. The concept here is to divide and rule the region through the militarization of the Sunni-Shina split, whereby each sect viciously kills the other simply because of their adherence to a different denomination. The model that the US is aiming for is the Mideast equivalent of Europe’s Thirty Years’ War, where Catholic and Protestant forces engaged in such a severe bloodletting that Oxford Bibliographies estimates between 15-20% of the pre-war population was killed or injured by the time it ended, with “the scope of misery and destruction it brought to those experiencing it, as a disaster comparable to, if not greater than, the two world wars and the Black Death.”
The whole point here is to create such a whirlpool of chaos that it eventually sucks in Russia and Iran, hence the expansionist nature of the un-“Islamic State” movement, which is nothing more than a cancerous ideological growth enforced by militant means. Its danger derives from the fact that it can theoretically crop up anywhere that Muslims live, and the animal-like sectarian violence that it’s precipitated is ideal for provoking the reactionary attacks necessary to begin a Mideast-wide Sunni-Shia war, the US’ ultimate objective. In the aftermath of that catastrophic conflagration, should the US be successful in setting it off (the fuse is already unfortunately lit), then the Mideast version of the “Peace of Westphalia” that ended the Catholic-Protestant war and ushered in the era of nation-states would be written according to the US’ geopolitical imperatives, likely along the divisive and cartographically revisionist proposals of Ralph “ethnic cleansing works” Peters , the New York Times’ “How 5 Countries Could Become 14”, or some hybrid application.
Historical Recap
A lot of complex information has been expressed in the previous sections, so it’s necessary to engage in a brief historical recap in order to place everything into the bigger picture. The US is reviving the historical divisions of World War II and the Sunni-Shia split in order to achieve its grandest strategic objective, the division of Eurasia and the preclusion of Chinese-Russian-Iranian integration of the supercontinent. The focus on Fascism in Asia is meant to empower the former Japanese aggressor as the US’ preferred Lead From Behind proxy and convince China’s neighbors to collaborate with it just like they did in the past. This proposed relationship is anticipated to form the basis of a proto-NATO in East and Southeast Asia, with Japan forming the link between the two containment theaters.
Over in Eastern Europe, matters are a bit different. The US celebrates the Fascist collaborationist governments and movements that fought against the USSR’s counter-offensive liberation campaign, hoping that this will drive wedges between their citizens and pragmatic cooperation with Russia. The end effect of such a strategy is to strengthen the population’s commitment to NATO to the point where the people actually invite the US to deepen its occupation of their territories, as is already the case in the Baltics and Poland. Ukraine is the epistemological experiment underpinning the success or failure of US’ other European ventures in this regard, and thus far, this tactic has been a wild success in generating anti-Russian sentiment all throughout Europe, even penetrating into its Scandinavian and Western European periphery.
Moving down to the South-Central portion of Eurasia, it’s not World War II divisions that are being revived, but rather religious ones from over 1,000 years ago. The US wants to divide and rule the entire region, hoping that the sectarian war it wishes to unleash will do the Pentagon’s dirty work for it. The end game is to bolster the power of Saudi Arabia, the cauldron of sectarian hate, so that the Kingdom can become the core of an Arab NATO (in league with Israel) for future deployment against Iran. Additionally, the virulent expansion of the un-“Islamic State” is meant to undermine Iran’s regional (and perhaps one day, even domestic) stability, and also pose a dilemma for the Central Asian states that form the bedrock of Russian and Chinese security. The unleashing of full-scale Islamic insurgency in the heart of Asia would inevitably spill over to these two Eurasian giants, thereby putting them on the strategic defensive and reopening the Pandora’s Box of domestic destabilization.
Concluding Thoughts
The US is experimenting with a novel method of warfare in its quest to contain and dismember Russia, China, and Iran, and that’s the militarization of historical memory. World War II has been reinterpreted in such a way as to fashion it as a weapon against Russia and China, while the Sunni-Shia split, which had been peacefully dormant for over a thousand years, has been reawakened with militant religious vigor unseen since the time of the Crusades. Each theater and historical reinterpretation targets a different Eurasian anchor, but the pattern of postmodern warfare is clear. The US, while still confronting its identified adversaries in a direct manner, is now seeking to accelerate its indirect strategies as well, hence the invocation of divisive and militarized historical memory in the quest to create large proxy coalitions against its rivals. The facts of historical record no longer matter to the US, and it can be argued that they never did matter to begin with, but what’s important right now for America is whether its intended audiences remain receptive to the revised record or not, but as one can evidently see with their own eyes, the US has succeed in fertilizing these seeds of historical discord and they’re finally beginning to bear their poisonous fruits.
A first rate analysis of the “big picture”. Sometimes there (at least to me) seems to be no obvious method to various stripes of madness, but along comes somebody to connect the dots for me, and I’m grateful! These scenarios are unfolding in the International arena, and I’d be shocked if their analogues aren’t present much closer to home, various seeds of division being sown, differences being accentuated rather than commonalities, the object being to keep the focus on all sorts of “them” against “us” instead of on the true common enemy of humanity, the clique of robber barons that orchestrate the panoply of division, diversion and deceit in their quest to dominate every square inch of this benighted planet.
There you go, I’ve fallen into the trap – alluding to a vague “them”…
Sasha,
Well, in fact it does appear that “they” are sowing seeds of dissension. I don’t even have TV, but it seemed to me that the first recent “cop shoots black victim” story was being hyped by the media– which means hyped by the criminals who control the media and govt.
Subsequent stories were even more hyped. And what cd the purpose be? Today’s story on Sputnik reveals it to be federalization of the police force! (They just basically become the army, w no pesky local voices of moderation).

Thank you Anon – that was an interesting read. I have no TV either, (and glad of it) so am only peripherally aware of the so-called “news”, but I agree entirely that the recent spate of rioting is designed to stampede the public into accepting, welcoming even, the new “facts on the ground”.

The US doesn’t want allies. A parasite wants host countries to suck them dry. Who else is a glutton for punishment? Join the losers.
Japan needs a BIG distraction from what is happening at Fukushima, which is the end of the world for mammals in maybe 20 years, starting with Japan and whoever eats Pacific seafood, but getting all of us eventually – a dead Pacific Ocean is going to lead to mass hunger and social unrest.
Japan needs a distraction from economy. US will provide it.
A year, two years ago, environment and climate were the big issues for human survival. Now the US is the major problem for survival. Once the US have been put back in their basket, the world can turn back to environment.
Peter, You do realize that when the corporate media tells you the way to care for the environment it is apt to be as false as their political coverage. You’ll notice that they never caution about industrial pollution of the Amazon, Billionaires buying up the water supplies, or depleted uranium weapons.
Japan even prohibits measuring the radioactive level and publishing them. In fact it is a crime to do so. Japan has been mired in economic recession for a long time and no end in sight. South Korea has been historically oriented towards to the north and Eurasia since Koreans are basically northern Asians originated from the Baikal region. So with unified population of 80 million, unified Korea is almost equal to Japan of 120 million. That is why the US has been trying to prevent unification of Korea.
The reason the US is pursuing this policy is that it senses its irreversible decline and wants to compensate its decline with a proxy like Japan. The US would have never pursued this policy had it not been the ongoing irreversible decline of the US. All in all, this policy is doomed to fail. Bear in mind that many Asians still remember what Japan did in the past.
Scott
Do you think Japan really has a libido crisis, or is that the cover story for massive infertility? Doesn’t radiation cause miscarriage; due to the rapidity of cell division I think fetal life is quickly affected by radiation. Also I suppose increased malformations & birth defects. Perhaps “crisis in libido” is a more accepted explanation.
There was a story on Globalresearch.ca shortly after Fukushima by an epidemiologist in US who showed excess deaths in the US from Fukushima. Most were of fetuses and children under two, if I remember.
Yes, I found some links; 1st 2 are US deaths
http://www.globalresearch.ca/medical-journal…s-deaths…fukushima…/28299
http://www.globalresearch.ca/an…mortality…in-the-us…fukushima…/28301
http://www.globalresearch.ca/fukushimas-children-are-dying/5387242
I’ve not read the last link, but given Japan’s culture, I think it likely the media might present contraception under these circumstances as “crisis of libido”. Don’t many Japanese consider it bad form to speak of the distressing?
Great article, giving a good broad picture of the strategy of the Empire of Chaos!
Hi Andrew !! Great article…very well put….yes. What do you think will be the outcome of this strategy of the US ? Do you think war is upon us ?
Divide and conquer or scorched earth as they retreat? US is setting in motion zombie armies which they will have little control over.
The Wahhabi cults especially. If the US has to retreat they will be trying to spread these cults like a bio weapon through Eurasia and the Asia pacific.
Not sure how much success US will have in the Asia pacific. At the moment in Thailand US is trying to reinstate an ex president who is now a convicted criminal in exile. The military is in control there at the moment. Both the military and the majority of the people in Thailand seem very loyal to their Monarch.
Malaysia and Indonesia are largely Moslem so if they don’t toe the line, the Wahhabis will move in there with US help. Indonesia – population 250 million off memory, infested with US NGOs is very susceptible.
Japan? Possibly the ignition point over a couple of bits of rock that will throw the whole area into turmoil.
Looking at what is happening in the middle east (Yemen, Syria) the tide has turned and US is now using a scorched earth policy. US is now transparently supporting ISIS, Al Qaeda and the rest of the zombie cults.
It’s not just Muslims — we can see divisions being fostered among Jews, Christians — Catholics, Protestants in various sects, Orthodox vs Catholic, liberal and conservative or Dominionist –, and the rich/poor class war. Any and every group the empire wants to overcome it works to divide, and to reorder alliances and enemies — anything but a united front against it.
Could it be that’s Satan, the old divide et impera master ?
@ blue
I left a little goodbye gift for you near your last comment at the article about pope Francis.
I hope you’ll like it.
Thank you.
Perhaps not just the Moslems Blue, but at the moment these Wahabbi cults are the go. like putting a match to petrol.
Neo nazis are a bit slower like diesel. But yes. read the US military doctrine and everything, Everything is weaponised.
Yes they charged the police in Baltimore. The rioters will go home to watch ballroom dancing competitions where every contestant is a Russian immigrant and the cheering will resume. Ballroom Dancing and the Super Bowl will not mask Baltimore as just one more riot by “lazy African Americans” that the Fox News and the other “presstitites” spin.
We have seen Baltimore’s many times over. The nation that Europeans look to as the “Beacon of Liberty” was built on misery of others. Those that came to its shores , white, black and shades in-between looking for freedom of some sort , were the persecutors and the persecuted
orphans, criminals, slaves and the poor. The persecution and abuse never stopped it became. incestuous.
Those in government blather about democracy but oppressed always had to rebel and pay the price with broken heads, lynching, pepper sprayed eyes, and burned homes to change things. Karim Abdul Jabbar writes ” Slaves weren’t freed by benevolent leaders wanting to do the right thing. No one gave the American worker better and safer conditions out of gratitude for a job well done. Vietnam veterans didn’t get their benefits from an Agent-Orange-denying government by sitting at home waiting patiently. Each time, Americans took to the streets to be heard”
But who is hearing the cries of the Vietnamese, Libyans, Iraqis, Syrians, Afghanis, Serbs, Yemenis, Somalis, and Novorussians whose children you have killed, whose lands you have poisoned with depleted uranium and agent orange and God knows what else so that you can feed the Military Industrial Complex and the 1% with more petro dollars. Is this the democracy that you export so you can repress democracy at home?
America your injustice at home and what you export from your shores will create hundred more Baltimore’s. The legal looting by the few who control your government must stop. Baltimore is not just about the death of one African American man it is about the death of economic, and political democracy in America and it is about the death of international law in the jungles and the sand dunes. caused by the footprint of the jack boot of the American Marines
Wait. You two have no tv so you don’t know it isn’t rioting. It is a “come to Jesus” moment for the nation about the police killing young black men and boys who are unarmed. There is tape, so there is no escaping the facts. Murder charges have been brought. And you don’t know or care, because you are too good to see what is going on around your neighborhood, country, and world. It takes some work, but you can find out the news. There are lots of sources now. You are just lazy.
You don’t know what you are talking about. No outside group is fostering division among Jews. We have always had division. Jews are always arguing among themselves; we always have. That is how you come to a decision and a truth. It is the basis of the scientific method.
People are entitled to their own opinions, and they have learned since 2000, they better open their mouths and speak those opinions before we get dragged/lied into another unnecessary war.
simply “get past it”
He said the same thing — ‘looking ahead instead of back’ about the lies with Iraq, torture, massive corruption, bankster fraud — all down the memory hole too. Inconvenient history and past is to be ignored and erased. 1984 stuff, and the press and mass media is in collusion, of course.
Forgot to say in my last comment that hasn’t appeared yet, great post Saker. As Larchmonter has commented and I had the feeling also, things have moved on from Ukraine? US is beaten there because of minsk 2. People will continue dying, but it has been put on simmer. If US takes out a preemptive strike on Russia it will take casualties and still have to deal with China and a multitude of enemies it has made in the last year or two.
What a shitty world.
Major stuff up. Great article Andrew, and thanks for posting it here Saker.
US made a lot of enemies and some countries are eager to take on the US. Not sure which way even Germany will turn to.
Excellent survey of the double containment the US government is attempting. Andrew lays out all the latest policies of the Hegemon, strategies and targets. He is spot on.
I offer these thoughts to consider.
Without actual warfare, unlike the original Kennan designed Grand Strategy to contain and strangle the USSR, this modern version, obese like much of the Western purveyors, cannot work.
It can lead to chaos and terrorism in some soft target locales.
But Eurasia is an enormous self-contained market. It has all the energy and commodities it needs. It has two great anchors, China and Russia. It has all the nuclear weapons it needs, all the anti-ship missiles and missile defenses, its own enormous gold reserves, and most of the world’s most brilliant minds within several of the most ascendant civilizations (Russia, China, Iran and India). It has the world’s cheapest, hardest working labor sources, two GPS satellite systems, and will create its own Internet for security reasons.
Surrounded by threats and bases does not limit its ability to conduct its own activities within this enormous land mass.
And if the warmongers ignite the fuse, Japan and EU will be decimated by Russia and China.
The Chinese military is designed primarily to assure the East China and South China regions are free of opponents to China’s security and trade by sea. To think Japan backed by US Naval power could control air space and sea passage is ludicrous. And if the US wants to turn Japan into Ukraine-like economy, then a brief, disastrous war would be just the ticket. The US must keep its carriers 1000 miles away in case of combat or the Chinese missiles will sink them.
The only real weapon of chaos left to the Hegemon is the ISIS-AQ-Taliban option.
NATO needs permission to be in South Asia. Its supply routes, basing and operations require Eurasian access. So, soon, NATO will be out of business there. If conflict with China or Russia is initiated, the ending of access will be instant.
As for NATO in action in Eastern Europe, they are terrified of Russia. The NATO bases and troops will stay on the western side of all those borders facing Russia. Again, no air power possible against Russia, therefore no war on the ground against Russia is feasible.
The Iran war scenario is worse for the Hegemon. If the US is timid to fight a proxy war in Yemen and pulled out its special operations, CIA, and State Department when Houthis made their move, then the US certainly will do nothing against Iran. So, who will they use? Saddam is gone. The Iraqi forces are Shia controlled. ISIS? Iran will blow the liver-eaters away. Particularly when Iran fully joins SCO.
I see the US creating some chaos, desperately trying to ruin Chinese investment and pipelines of gas and oil in the Belts and Roads developments. But nothing will stop the future from forming.
AIIB is the first pillar. The Silk Road Fund is another pillar. The China-Pakistan Infrastructure Corridor is another.
We have yet to see the counter moves from China, Russia, et al. against the containment and any real impingement by the U.S. government other that using Islamic terrorists. SCO will soon be unleashed against ISIS and AQ in Central Asia-Xinjiang borderland.
There is no such thing as a one-player game of strategy, be it chess, checkers or GO. So whatever the U.S. government does with NATO and Japan, there will be consequences that are unintended, and there will be tactics and strategies that China and Russia will deploy.
5000 years of one civilization, 1000 of the other. And the US is 250 years old, the last 40 years in a steady devolution of its society, its economy and its flexibility. The hegemony it so carefully constructed required leadership, and generated an expectation of success. It has had neither for those 40 years.
I see the U.S. failing. It failed to stop the AIIB. It failed to stop Crimea, Donbass (Novorossiya is gone from Ukraine.) It failed to get Ukraine in EU. It failed to get Russia to invade Ukraine. It failed in Hong Kong umbrella revolution. It failed in Egypt with the Muslim Brotherhood. It failed to remove Assad. It has failed to contain nukes in North Korea. It has failed with sanctions on Iran.
There is chaos in many places, millions of dead, many hundreds of cities destroyed, but the U.S. has failed to maintain hegemonic unipolar dominance. The petro dollar is dying. The BIS is eclipsed for international settlement of trade.
The moral authority and nobility of Liberty and Democratic Institutions have been desecrated by assassinations, torture, wanton collateral destruction by drone strikes, land mines, cluster bombs, spent uranium ammunition, and private contractor war crimes.
The CV of the US government is festooned with malice, evil, and degeneracy. Only its vassals buy into that future for humanity.
When the truth penetrates the American psyche, the Hegemon will be dismantled from within.
Andrew… thank you
Excellent analysis in joining the dots
Also Larchmonter445 … well said.
The one problem I see that needs immediate work is Central Asia. There should never be a question on those countries.Between China,Russia, and Iran, they should be able to have the loyalty,or at least neutrality of that whole region. And yet we see reports of the Empire being able to sow chaos there.Color revolutions being plotted. And some countries siding with the Empire. That all needs to be stopped asap.As in any “family”,the smart parents (Mother Russia) takes the kids in hand when they start acting up.And getting under the the influence of bad elements (the West). In the recent past “Mother” waited to long with “young Ukraine” and we see what that waiting has caused. They should have learned you stop trouble “before” it starts. Not try to clean it up after.
Uncle Bob, don’t forget poor Mother Russia herself was serious ill with a nasty western infection for a long time. The young country wants to go live with its drug dealer, who is talking her into ripping some more funds off the parents first, unaware she’ll end up in prostitution anyway.
The Central Asian countries are not children, but neighbours who used to live under the same landlord. There is friendship there, and wealth to help them stand on their own feet with. Maybe they need to be shown more of the example of what happens to ones who are hypnotised by the bad company. Russia and China need to start high-level Schools of (sensible) Economics, quick smart.
There is more friendship with three of them. One very friendly. And 2 needy friendships. The other 2 or more of the problem. And unless taken in hand quickly could become the ISIS/US’s “north” targets. That would be a disaster for Russian/Chinese Central Asian plans. Not an insurmountable disaster. But like with Ukraine, a very big problem.A serious effort needs to be at work now to prevent that.
Dear Saker/Friends
It is no wonder that US/allies couldn’t win a war. The WAR is won by TRUTH and Righteousness. If one has these two things then Devine power would be with them. And once one has the Devineness then nothing could defeat them. US and its allies don’t have TRUTH and hence no Devineness and hence in the end they are bound to loose. Hitler tried its best and in the end lost. Go back a little more in the history. Alexander the “Plunderer not the GREAT” lost and died while trying to conquer India.
Let Americans experiment with these novels idea to change the Truth, however the TRUTH is TRUTH how they could change. This Poland,Lithuania,Latvia and rest of the mosquitoes are writing their death. They would seize to exist when the next WW takes place. Hopefully some sanity would be there. In US their is no Sanity whatsoever.

Sanjay
Sanjay, Time for hands off cocks, hands on socks. Truth, divine, means Sh..t. Perhaps truth. Power. Russia, China could sit there speakin the truth for until whenever. in the meantime US would bomb the shit out of em. Power. Military power to back the words. China and Russia speaking of a fair society. They can only bring this to fruition with military power to back their words.
Military power Sanjay, to put steel behind the good words.
@ Sanjay
“The sharp edge of a razor is difficult to pass over; thus the wise say the path of salvation is hard.”
The total opposite of this however, which is war, doesn’t need truth and righteousness to win. Just look back in history.
“Now I have become Death”, or words to that effect, also from the Upanishads if I’m not mistaken.

Brilliant article which prompts the question: “How do you innoculate the victim populations against this USA bred virulent chaos virus”?
How do you even make them realise that they are a victim in the first place?
The only way is to weaken the US – say, by attacking the dollar. So long as this country maintains its dominant role, it will continue winning the communication war, and the chaos virus will continue to spread.
Xi is spending three days with Putin (8-10): let’s hope they come up with a plan for prompt and decisive action. Otherwise the world is done for.
Yes, that is correct.
RP here speech April inside US which of course got ZERO mention:

Speaking April 11 in Austin at the University of Texas, former presidential candidate and United States House of Representatives member Ron Paul stressed the importance of ending the Federal Reserve. In particular, Paul explains how the Fed allows the US to pursue “perpetual war” and to put war profiteers in the military-industrial complex “on the gravy train.”
We’re in May now, supposedly the month (?) Russia ends SWIFT or something.
That sitrep story linked May 4 BTW about Russia increasing patrols in the GOM tells u something—maybe Cuba really is next!
After all, Lord O already gave it the mafia Kiss of Death recently in that abrupt about-face.
So maybe the Russian leadership really has woken TF up after all, but look how long it’s taken .
Yep, Anonymous, May is the month when Russia is supposed to come up with the international portion of its “alternate SWIFT system”.
I read an article yesterday that said Iran is doing w/o SWIFT simply by sending bank instrux via phone or e-mail. The article made it sound as if SWIFT is just a secure interbank communications system. That surprised me; I would have thought that it was actually a way to clear payments. But maybe the two are the same thing? I mean, I guess they just change numbers in accounts when they “clear a payment.”
Hi Everyone,
Thanks for the great feedback on my article, I’m really glad that you find it insightful.
Best,
Andrew
Cheers. Great job.
Yes Andrew, thanks very much for writing what many are thinking. Perhaps you could get together with Pepe Escobar and write a joint essay!
Very well done Andrew. You tied together a whole bunch of strategic threads into a (somewhat) comprehensible fabric. You are a great addition to the Saker community.

The original Ralph Peters article from the Armed Forces Journal (June 2006), including the “before” and “after” maps, can be found here via the Wayback Machine. The current version on the AFJ site has no maps, although the “after” map is still available via one of Andrew’s links above. I find it instructive to look at the two maps side by side.
Excellent link with the maps to compare.
Thank you, Bilbo.
Nice article from Andrew Korybko. Nice title: “The Haunt of History….”
Nice comments.
America needs to get past Sept. 11th and stop with its annual 9-11 Pity Party/water works.
Many people outside of America and the West are tired, and to be frank bored, of your continual whining about “terrorism”.
This is especially true since it is pretty obvious that 9-11 and other terrorist acts like the Boston Bombing were literally Made in the USA, being staged and directed by the American military and intelligence apparatus.
Time to get over 9-11, America.
You’ll like this recent item by Pepe Escobar on your subject, http://atimes.com/2015/04/why-the-u-s-war-on-terra-is-a-fraud/
Why would any person in power in the US “get over” 911 ? Fact is by “not getting over” it, the people in power gets to enjoy MORE power than otherwise, which is what such people craved and wanted in the first place. Please dont tell me you really think they wanna do “what’s best for the people” ?????
Excellent article Andrew.
How to combat in small ways ourselves?
The identification of Wahhabism as distinct from Sunni helps: it reduces and contains the basis for sectarianism. Better still is to identify them as non-Muslims, unlike the Sunni and Shia.
Focus on Islamic State as a US-rael – Saudi political creation, designed to keep the Muslims in the M.E. at loggerheads is important too, not to mention keeping Iran in a state of unease.
The regions wealth (oil) is then controlled by the transnational cartels, instead of spread through the region’s peoples. But that strategy is crumbling, as more of the ‘dupes’ become aware of the
The same can be applied to theUkraine. The Kiev junta is a US-rael creation, as is it’s faux ‘nationalism’ and has only one purpose: to transfer wealth to transnationals by identifying Russia / the East Ukraine as the ‘enemy’.
The Polish elites are also in on it, hoping that if the Ukraine segregates along West/ East lines they get a slice of the transnational action. NATO expansion along Russia’s Western flank is part of the ‘deal’.
But this awakened beast (nationalism) is showing signs of going awry: the Right Sector have one interpretation, the junta another. And further East, the Donbass militias have indicated a ‘third way’: federalist, or regional/economic ‘nationalism’. Control over this tripartite conflict is not possible: NATO can participate, as it does in Iraq, but it can’t direct.
It remains to be seen to how Polish elites deal with the inevitable refugee crisis from the Ukraine, and how long they can obscure their entirely self-serving policies (Swiss bank accounts for services rendered ) from the general population. Nor is NATO immune to sabotage from within its Polish operation.
I am not convinced Abe is a significant threat as he is overwhelmingly out-of-sync with most Japanese. They do not want constitutional change (article 9) and are a far cry from the feudal mind-set that deified the emperor fifty years ago: Onaga, the governor of Okinawa, may spearhead a challenge to that direction and re-focus on Fukishima/the economy. Developing ties with China – who have major shared environmental concerns – would be a good strategy for him.
I know its outside the scope of such a broadreaching article, but I feel it is important to move closer to individuals and groups operating within regional/national boundaries: otherwise we fall into the error of wholesale attribution of intention – and also blame.
That’s what war-mongers want.
After the over-view – look at the architects.
In addition to the “militarization of historical memory” as Andrew K. puts it, the USA is also creating legal dispositions to support their actions this “historical memory”. This can be seen through an increased number of security council resolutions and creation of supranational pseudo-legal bodies to deal with “war crimes”.
In this manner, USA adds a veneer of legitimacy to their military subversion, and ensures that the division between the ethnic groups are long-term. Grievances that are brought up for example, within the Hague tribunals, which have a greater resemblance to class action law suits, as opposed to actual criminal trials, prevent truth and reconciliation. The tribunal for ex-Yugoslavia is a good example as it is still ongoing, festering grievances, and its been more that 20 years since the conflict itself.
Militarization of history. What a concept in propaganda. In the end, perhaps the way to correct the propanda is to get rid of those who pay for the propaganda.
Excellent analysis. Thank you
The US?
This one; US funding ISIS and promoting civil war for hegemony and profit.
The very country that makes my stomach churn out more acid than almonds?
B*lch!
@ the moderator who put 2 stars in 1 word,
Q; B**ch!
R; Would you please be kind enough and put a ‘l’ in that maimed word, so there won’t be any confusion as to what I did say/mean [now it looks like I give women a bad rap]?
‘B*lch’
Thank you.
Excuse me, that word seems to me of bad taste to publish in the blog and, in fact, did no add more information than what you have already explained about your stomach discomfort. Do you consider this word indispensable in your comment? Anyway I´ll add the “l” if then you feel better.
@ Vineyard Moderator – E.K.
Q; Excuse me, that word seems to me of bad taste to publish in the blog and..
R; Since when has eructation been verboten?
It is verboten for me, where I am is considered bad taste, I understand that this is a matter of cultures, but I can not see what this word added to the discussion or your comment itself. They are Saker´s guidelines. Sorry, but I will not discuss the issue further. As it has been proved, I added the “l” you requested. Round point, Daniel, is it so important to you? I am very tired, would be desirable not fight with us moderators. In fact, my shift in finishing right now. Good night.
@ any moderator,
What happened to my ‘rebuttal‘?
I know nothing of it but please, let it go; don’t make mountains out of molehills.
@ Vineyard Moderator – K.K.
Q; don’t make mountains out of molehills.
R: I’m not making mountains out of anything.
The fact that my ‘rebuttal‘ is AWOL, is full self-explanatory.
The West, the United States would like to hang the Russia chickens to a wall. But they should well understand that will not remain standing no more wall to do that.
Very well connected dots, thanks for that!
In Spain and Argentina, the “historical memory” term is used by the dictatorships victims for their search of the disappeared by the regime.
It’s curious that the new generations (30~50 years old) of spaniards don’t like to talk about the Civil War (Spain’s very own 2nd world war); I’m an alien in the country… but I get flabbergasted about it, as this conflicts don’t simply “go away” (vide Sunni/Shia), especially if no Historical Memory popular committee was set up to clean the records and punish criminal activity (not political or militar, criminal).
There’s a wonderful essay by George Orwell, on the site orwell.ru (:lots of translated stuff:), that also connects the dots from that age: Looking back on the Spanish War:
Yemeni Resistance Inspired by Islamic Revolution: IRGC Commander
May 04, 2015 – 12:23
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari described the resistance shown by the Yemeni people to foreign invasion as a new achievement of the Islamic Revolution and its inspiring role.

“The Yemeni people’s fortitude and resistance to the hegemonic system have been inspired by the Islamic Revolution (and) that is the Islamic Revolution’s new achievement,” Major General Jafari said in a meeting in Tehran on Monday.
The commander also highlighted the failure of “regional and trans-regional enemies” to end or derail such inspiring role of the Islamic revolution.

“… Washington doesn’t want anyone to ever “get past” World War II … everybody in Eastern Europe needs to keep the war at the forefront of their thoughts, but only if it’s the ‘right’ (Fascist) version sanitized by the US. That version is far from sanitary to the average human being, but for the US … it’s the only acceptable interpretation of World War II events. …”
Of course, the United States have more than one motive behind such a conduct. Not the least being its attempt at whitewashing its own role behind the WWII – which is in stark contrast to the elaborately built Hollywood version it has been selling for the past seventy years. Here is one set of historical revelations debunking it.
The Anglo-American Money Masters Organized World War II
by Professor Valentin Katasonov of the MGIMO University of the Foreign Ministry of Russian Federation
“… The war was not unleashed by frenzied Fuhrer who happened to be ruling Germany at the time. WWII is a project created by world oligarchy or Anglo-American “money owners”. Using such instruments as the US Federal Reserve System and the Bank of England they started to prepare for the next world conflict of global scale right after WWI. The USSR was the target. … There were key figures behind the plot: the Rockefellers, the Morgans, Lord Montagu Norman (the Governor of the Bank of England), Hjalmar Schacht (President of the Reichsbank and Minister of Economics in the Hitler’s government). … …”

Part II: http://www.strategic-culture.org/news/2015/05/05/anglo-american-money-owners-organized-world-war-ii.html
Lord Montagu Norman was pretty much openly pro-Hitler. Loudly so.
Johan, Thanks for the excellent links. I’m always looking for one more summation and this looks like a really good one.
The first link below is a pdf download of a purportedly genuine, fly-on-the-wall account of the interrogation of CG Rakovski by Stalin’s agent prior to Rakovski’s trial in the days before WWII.
Whether it’s a fake (and I’m not sure what “fake” would mean here), or a literary account of a real event, it is an astonishingly good read, and fits the public facts well while giving shedding considerable light onto the geo-socio-political paradigms of the participants and lots of Marxist dialectical debate at a high level.

Dear Andrew,
Thank you for another excellent piece.
The 30 years war is an apt. comparison. I always get the feeling the US finds examples in history to give it ideas of how to operate its chaos. However, the world changes and they keep using the same play book over and over and its starting to unravel. It is a country with very little history and most of that immersed in wars and internal issues which are all coming home to roost.
I think on the surface it may look like they are being successful but its all smoke and mirrors and will collapse.
Larchmonter445 – thanks too for your contribution to the discussion.
Rgds,
Veritas
Instead of looking at the situation with Japan and Russia as being opposite policies it makes sense to view the US position as being one of using the defeated WWII empires to assume key subsidiary roles in opposing their previous allies. A global empire with regional viceroys. The US has no fundamental quarrel with fascism being practiced in the “colonies”.
Regarding the Sunni-Shia hostilities, it is not correct to place the primary blame on the US. Saudi Arabia has for the past 6 decades been promoting its hateful Wahhabi ideology using hundreds of billions of its petrodollars. They have funded scholarships, missionaries, schools, Masjids and Islamic centers to promote Wahhabism worldwide. The ideology of the Takfiris in IS and Al-Qaeda is Wahhabism and they have a huge pool of recruits prepared by Saudi Arabia’s proselytization to draw from.
Not content with that, they have provided funding, training and weaponry for groups who espouse their extremist religious outlook. The US may helped the process where it suited its purpose…but make no mistake, if the US withdrew from the Middle East tomorrow the sectarian wars being promoted by Saudi Arabia and its Gulf allies would continue.
Anonymous, yeah, but there’s always been a deal that the US wd protect the Saudis militarily. Hence, they “enable” Saudis to carry out their mercenary attacks on their neighbors. In fact, in my opinion, it’s unlikely they cd continue w/o US permission.
Ditto, Israel, same case. Of course many people feel Israel actually controls US. I think they’re just playing good-cop, bad-cop.
In my opinion, no way gangsters who control US govt wd permit Saudi or Israel to act against their interests.
US is following the path of what is epitomized as human greed, muder, and opposite of what is godly. Its the path of the devil aka satan. The country was founded on the blood and extermination of its original inhabitants…and that spirit of exceptionalism continues to its day.
so Russia nd china messed up with no long term planning to save themselves.
all this proves that the victims of anglos have been sleeping over with delusion of partnership for too long instead of coming war which they should have prepared at least 5 years ago.
now they have to catch up while fire is burning all around them specifically against russia.china ,iran and india. for that lavrov and others like traitors must have been kicked out long time ago.
Appeasement. Because no normal nation desires war…No one wanted to confront the Nazis either. But now at least they are starting to act. Ukraine is the equivalent of Hitler’s invasion of Poland.
@ Serbian girl
Speaking of appeasement: Kim Jong Un of North Korea has obviously been “uninvited” for the 9th of May Victory celebrations in Moscow! (Couched in “diplomatic” language: “Putin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told The Associated Press that “internal matters” were preventing Kim from leaving North Korea. He didn’t elaborate.” – see http://www.thenewstribune.com/2015/04/30/3767759_kremlin-north-korean-leader-not.html and other sources.)
So, Russian appeasement of America is not over. There are clearly severe limits on Russian present power.
I haven’t heard that he was “dis-invited”,they invited him in the first place. There could be many reasons on a list of why he couldn’t make it to the event.I think Russia insulting him by dis-inviting him would be the very last reason on a list.
@ Uncle Bob 1
Yes, “There could be many reasons on a list”, but there simply aren’t. While disinvitation would indeed be the last thing in relations to North Korea – it is the very first on the list in relations to the United States.
Just think about it. Russia promised Iran the defensive “S-300” system, even signed a contract in 2007 – and then reneged on both the promise and the contract: “the very last thing on the list” to keep Iran friendly to Russia.
Why Russia did such a terrible about-face? Because the U.S. and Israel “partners” were *much higher* “on the list” of the Russian regime. (That Russia has now performed an “about-about-face” on the by now somewhat obsolete S-300 is kind of a comedy – 8 years is a very, very long time for military hardware – though hardly that Iran is laughing…)
Insulting the tiny North Korea under U.S. pressure is really a piece of cake in comparison.
Your comments are always late. You wait to criticize and berate leaders who are of a class about 100 fold smarter than you.
Carp all you want. But just once, tell us what you think will happen and why no one is as smart as you to predict it.
I’ll wait. So far you are smarter than Russian leaders, Chinese, Iranian and Indian. But have a go at any topic, any nation, any event.
Get out in front of just one thing and show us really how clever a troll you are.
@ Mats
All one can see is that you are merely telling a commenter here that he is “not as smart” as some politicians (!). Hm. Are politicians (be they Russian, Chinese, Iranian, Indian – or from any country for that matter) paragons of intelligence for you? And why is a mere challenging of that premise the reason to label someone a “troll”? In fact: the onus is on *you* to respond in any substance to the argument already put forth by your colleague.
Yeah, you are right. Russia made a big mistake not to be more involved in cultural and educational exchange programs in Ukraine. And turned a blind eye on Nazi boot camps. You have a good point. Now they have to do things the hard way.
This comes straight from the PR industry. The PR industry has always talked in quasi-military terms of “campaigns”, “targets”, and “results”.
The propagandist, like the PR manager judges his work using but one pair of opposing categories: Effective, or Not-Effective. He has no others. The normal human categories we use to judge things like Truth or Lies, Good or Evil, Honest or Dishonest, etc are restricted variables in his calculus.
He takes polls that probe a population’s susceptabilities, and crafts a narrative that he hopes will exploit those susceptabilities. If his narrative fails to achieve the target effect, he scripts a different one. If it succeeds, he analyses and builds on its successes.
This is what Western cultural skill has finally devolved to. It’s the ultimate Western skill, and the one thing the West does better than anyone else. Selling. Selling whatever it is, while keeping your target unaware that they’re being sold anything, never mind a bill of goods.
It in no way differs in its planning, its implementation, its structure or in its post campaign assessment, from the selling of a Presidential Candidate, an iGadget, an F15, or an SSRI drug.
The weaponization of PR has come a long since Goebbels.
PS: I wish to thank Daniel Rich (on May 04, 2015 · at 8:48 pm UTC) for the link to the Off-Guardian interview with John McMurtry. Highly recommended for its lucidity and sweeping view of the real history of our times.

“but as one can evidently see with their own eyes, the US has succeed in fertilizing these seeds of historical discord”
Memory holes and linear challenge does not transcendence make.
Some advice worth considering.
