The basic technology of fighter jets has not really progressed for a very long time now. All the armies of the planet still use platforms that have been designed ages ago but with some very crucial updates in electronics systems, ammunition etc…
In any case, I think the question of whether for example which is better between a SU-27 or an F-15 will never be answered.
The only way to tell would be having them go head-to-head in an environment that would not provide any one of the combatants some external advantage. So the question is purely academic as well as unknowable.

One thing I will say though regarding the F-35 that everyone seems to be so convinced is useless (because that’s what the Western MSM keeps portraying it): how do we really know how bad this aircraft is? I think Russia will transfer it to Syria if nato does “something”, the order was on hold but they had some parts.. We see some equipment in Syria but they are not active? Seems to be a Russian contract to only use on condition. They can say it is not the S400 because the long range missiles are not installed.

There is always a CAP combat air patrol of several loaded top-line jets surveilling the volume over the carrier to 200 miles out, so that part cannot be correct; they wouldn’t have to scramble any jets off the carrier, unless the ones in the CAP were blinded too.

As another poster here pointed out it is probably a preliminary step in the closure of Syrian airspace. It will absolutely infuriate NATO and friends, but with the coverage of advanced anti air, I see little they can do about it. Russia will veto any UNSC action of course. And realistically the french will have to bugger off. They will probably need that carrier at home anyway when the civil war in France breaks out in a year or two.

I just came across something that seems to have been so under reported as to be virtually non existent.
Apparently the North Korean military is active in Syria, helping out the government of president Assad against the head choppers, did anybody know this previously ? I am not certain as to what extent they are involved in the fight against Americas proxy forces but from what I can gather they appear to be more actively involved in the fighting than the Chinese are.

I would have discounted it as mere rumours except it was mentioned on the Larry King show politicking today that president Assads forces were receiving arms shipments from North Korea and possibly that N. Korean military advisers were directing artillery barrages against the head choppers. I was just surprised that it had been so well kept under wraps that’s all.

Russia’s S-400 Missile Defense System Has No Equal Globally
HMEYMIM AIRBASE (Sputnik) — British Daily Mail claimed Thursday that Russia had allegedly deployed advanced S-400 air defense system (NATO codename SA-21 Growler) at the Hmeymim airbase in the Latakia province, posting a photo of an air defense system described as an S-400.
The S-400 Triumph is an air defense missile system, which integrates a multifunction radar, autonomous detection and targeting systems, anti-aircraft missile systems, launchers, and command and control center. It is capable of firing different three types of missiles capable of destroying aerial targets at short-to-extremely long range.
“You had the opportunity to see everything here with your own eyes…There are no S-400s here, and never have been,” Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov told foreign reporters who are on a press tour around the Hmeymim base where the Russian air group is stationed.
The Hmeymim airbase is located in the Latakia province of Syria, where Russian forces taking part in the military operation against ISIL are currently stationed.
“Before attempting to scare the British public and the world with the deployment of our S-400 air defense system here, they should have consulted Wikipedia or the site of the Russian defense ministry as to how this system looks like,” Konashenkov added.

I’m skeptical of this. The Russians are denying it and to me, those (admittedly very blurry) pictures don’t look much like S-400s. Plus, apparently journalists have access to this base, so they could easily confirm it if it were true. That said, this is not to say that there aren’t S-400s elsewhere in Syria.
