@EVERYBODY: Gordon Duff and Veterans Today is not a source I would trust. I also know of no serious analyst who would believe that the conflict in Syria has the potential to turn nuclear or to turn into a world war. I think I can honestly say that I have extensive and first hand knowledge of US and Russian officers, including many generals, and I am confident that even if, say by accident, a Russian and US warship exchanged fire both sides would immediately DE-escalate and do everything they can to immediately stop the incident from triggering a US-Russian war. During the Cold War and after there have been SEVERAL instances were things could have gone very wrong, and responsible officers on BOTH sides took immediate and personal action to stop this. Example: when Wesley Clark ordered NATO forces to attack the tiny Russian force at the Pristina airport in Kosovo the local British officer refused to obey and British General Michael Jackson told Clark “I’m not going to start the Third World War for you!”. And that was when Russia was, arguably, the weakest in its 1000 years history. Here are two examples when Russian officers took decisive action to avoid a war with the USA:

The main duty of the professional officers in Russia and the USA is not to obey any order – it is to protect his motherland. They know that.

Now, there is always an inherent risk, there are irresponsible arrogant morons out there (like Wesley Clark), there are spineless politicians who see how they can bring the world to disaster and yet do nothing about it (Obama). But, guys, honestly, I really do not think that the crisis in Syria will go nuclear or turn into WWIII.

Based on press reports, it seems that Obama is leaning towards Option 2 (see your earlier post).

Option 2 will by absolutely spark a regional war of some sorts.

However, in the US, there doesn’t seem to be any discussion about the meanings and implications of this course.

Is Obama bluffing? But what would he be bluffing for?

Does he really think that the public or Congress would actually put up with an escalating regional conflict lasting weeks?

What the hell is he thinking?

Простите, занудства ради – не “лжецом”, а “вруном”. Это эмоционально более грубое слово. Т.е. это не упрёк во лжи, это оплеуха. Путин умышленно бьёт наотмашь. Тут ещё глава администрации президента РФ Сергей Иванов назвал “бредом сивой кобылы” обвинения в адрес России в поставках оружия массового уничтожения (ОМУ) в Сирию.В ту же корзинку. Что-то наши лица, облеченные полномочиями, полностью отринули дипломатические формулировки и режут правду-матку. Вообще-то это первый шаг на пути разрыва отношений и начала боевых действий. Дай бог, чтобы я ошибалась…
